The sculpture is Frank Dobson’s London Pride, originally made from the 1951 Festival of Britain, made from plaster. It was only cast in bronze decades later and put back in the same stretch of the riverbank outside the National Theatre. Read more about the sculpture here.

The wheelie held for a good few seconds, front wheel up level with the rider’s chest as he rode past the person on the bench and then sped on by my side and on towards Waterloo Bridge on South Bank, London. I don’t remember seeing this in a guidebook.

I walked up to photograph the Beacon and found a cow there first. It watched me carefully, judging if I was worthy of visiting the Baltimore Beacon. Or maybe it was just resting in the hazy sun of a warm afternoon in West Cork.

Opera Lane has flower balls and wire butterflies strung on wires above the street, but I guess everyone else is used to them or didn’t notice them, looking down at their phones or walking along. I noticed, and my neighbour walking the street noticed too.

I had a window seat flying into London recently. First flight of the day and I was treated to a fantastic sky!

A man is repainting the front door of St Mary’s Dominican Church on Popes Quay. It can be easy to forget that massive buildings that have been there all the time need constant maintenance.

The cliff below the Baltimore Beacon drops a long way, and the only way to show that was to put a person at the top of the frame. Luckily, a fellow photographer was busy doing the same thing I was doing. I walked over afterwards and spoke to him and his wife. They are Swiss, over on holiday in a camper van. He had the tripod set up right on the edge with the camera low down to capture the heather and gorse flowering along the lip.

The Cure came on in full sun, which is not the weather anyone associates with them. While waiting for the line for the bar to move on, I turned round to photograph the crowd. A sea of people stretched all the way to the distant trees and a manor in the background. Wow.

I got down low in the gorse to photograph the Baltimore Beacon, so most of the frame is flowers and wire rather than the beacon itself. A few groups came and went as I photographed the Beacon, but I don’t think any of them stooped down low and put their camera in the gorse!

Sunset on the north side of Sheep’s Head last night, looking over towards the Beara Peninsula. I didn’t expect much colour, but a break in the clouds let the light through. It was gone within minutes, but not before I had shot it dozens of times!
