Eva Mendes recently slammed Jennifer Lopez in a “Please Don’t Compare Me” speech. Since J. Lo is a total diva, I don’t blame Eva for not wanting to get lumped in the same category:

“I would like to think I will have a more serious career than J.Lo. We may both be of Latin origin but that’s where the comparisons stop. She manages her career like the head of a big corporation, whereas the only thing I care about is becoming the best actress possible.”

Rawr! *Claws Out* Eva’s heard this one time too many, hmmm?

Today’s a big day in Britney Spears’ world, y’all! Britney will launch her new website today, BritneySpears.com, and we can’t forget about the 20/20 “Womanizer” video premiere tonight. I’m a teensy bit excited to see it, mostly because everyone keeps saying how sexy it is.

Brit has another upcoming project in the works as well: a new documentary about her life. She’s currently filming the 90-minute doc entitled “For The Record,” and she recently opened up about her reasons for making it:

“So much has gone on over the last couple of years and there’s a lot that people don’t know about me that I want them to know [...] I wanted to make this film because I started to feel like I wasn’t being seen in the light that I wanted to be seen in. This is an opportunity to set the record straight and talk about what I’ve been through and where I’m headed.”

This is actually going to be interesting, but I hope it’s not sugar-coated. Let’s face it, most of us have a good idea about what has been going on with Britney. She’s going to have to be brutally honest.

We’ll see if she can handle it come November 30th on MTV!

The recalculation took into consideration the effect of the economic woes that we are all in. While my pathetic investment is down by 60% and will surely become dust soon, Buffett on the other hand added $8 billion to his net worth from August 29 to October 1 for a total of $58 billion.

How about Bill Gates? He is poorer now by $1.5 billion to $55 billion over the same period as Buffett. He relinquishes the top spot after 15 years.

The communications company sent more than a dozen e-mails containing the addresses, according to technology professionals who contacted Network World. The messages touted a series of upcoming events, including one called “Secure the Information, Secure the Infrastructure,” and another called the “Data Breach Investigations Report Road Show.” The Verizon employee who sent them put all the e-mail addresses in plain view in the “To” field, rather than obscuring them in the “BCC” field as most mass mailings would do, the recipients say.

When one IT worker responded to point out the problems, Verizon wrote back and apologized for the “lapse in judgment,” he tells Network World. The worker says he received 17 different messages from Verizon within the day, each with hundreds of e-mail addresses listed at the top.

Let’s hope Verizon saved a front-row seat at the seminar for its employee to attend.

The company had announced late last month that it would shut the servers down, meaning anyone who downloaded tracks from its Web site before February — when it switched to DRM-free files — would no longer be able to transfer the music to other computers or devices. (At least, not without taking the backdoor approach of burning it to disc, then re-ripping it.)

Now, Wally World says “based on feedback from [its] customers,” it will “maintain [its] digital rights management (DRM) servers for the present time,” the e-mail obtained by Engadget indicates. No telling how long that “present time” will end up being — but hey, it’s reassuring to see that a massive customer backlash can, sometimes, make a difference.

In the meantime, Apple is still facing a fight to completely drop its digital rights protection from iTunes-downloaded songs. A consumer rights official in Norway says the company’s restrictions violate his nation’s laws by not letting customers play their purchases on any device they want. Apple has until November 3 to respond to a Norwegian court. Its final ruling isn’t expected until early next year.

So, why would you trust people lurking online to choose a name for your baby? Jason Morrison and his wife Ann are asking Internet users to choose the name for their child due this November.

Jason, a Google employee, has posted a poll on his blog, asking everyone to vote on what they should name their baby. The couple suggested 17 different names and is also allowing online visitors to suggest alternatives.

“My wife and I are expecting, and thus we have to pick a name for our new baby. We’ve perused baby name websites and tried the Freakonomics tactic of predicting popular names, but to be honest none of it was really working. As a Googler, though, the answer should have been obvious - let the Internet do it!” he writes in his blog.

Since he’s from Google, how about Larry or Sergey if the baby is a boy. Anyone out there who can suggest a name for a baby girl?

Angelina spoke with Parade recently about marriage, kids, and life, continuing the succession of potential overshares:

On Being a Mom in the Spotlight: “I’m just a mom and I’m very grounded by my family. I’m very happy, and I’m so lucky. The world can like me, hate me, fall apart around me, and at least, you know, I wake up with my little kids and I’m happy.”

On Flying To/From Europe and Brad’s Parenting: “Brad took care of things. He just said, ‘Go back to sleep, you have to work tomorrow,’ and then went to the living room with the kids. He’s an amazing father: totally devoted.”

On Twin Cuteness: “We’re exhausted a lot, because it’s twice as hard with two babies than with one,” she says. “But it’s twice as much fun, too. When you look at them, it’s like they were made for each other. They smile at each other, sniff each other, touch each other. It’s just beautiful. They’re totally sweet. They already have completely different personalities. Knox is more the quiet one, very relaxed, while Viv is a little more aggressive and loud.”

For someone who values her privacy, she sure fools me sometimes.

A British angler investigating reports of a man eating fish has caught one in the wild.

The goonch can grow to six foot (1.8m), and regularly weighs more than 160 pounds (70kg). The fish lives in the Great Kali River, between India and Nepal, a river system used to dispose of bodies per local Hindu funeral rites.

According to SkyNews, the goonch is thought to taken an 18-year-old man last year, who was dragged under the water by a creature described as a “elongated pig.” The theory goes that the fish have mutated due to an over abundance of human flesh, and having acquired a taste for it, may target the living when there’s a lack of bodies in the river system.

What ever the reason: that’s one amazing looking fish

Google has quietly added contextual based text advertising to Google Maps.

The ads appear at the base of the map after a search. CNet explains:

Some searches, such as those for taxi, restaurant, or hotel, show a blue-background text ad along the bottom of the Google Maps page. Given that anyone at the site is using a map, this is an opportunity for Google to employ a strong geographic influence in its ad targeting algorithm, and in general, the better targeted an ad is, the more effective and costly it is.

The ads would appear to be limited only by geographic availability and match, with Google currently unable to serve ads against every search entered, in every location. However, Google has switched on the ads globally, as the shot above of a Melbourne, Australia shows, they’re being shown anywhere there’s an ad match.
