Men's Lacrosse: Will Manny Scores Seven Goals in UMass' Win Over Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Will Manny scored a career-high seven goals and nine points to lead the No. 11 UMass men's lacrosse team to a 12-9 season-opening win at Army on Friday afternoon at Michie Stadium. Manny's nine-point performance was the first since Jeff Zywicki did the same against Albany in 2003. The win was also head coach Greg Cannella's 150th career victory.

Duke's Kat Thomas and Loyola's Taryn VanThof Out With Injuries

Duke's Kat Thomas will miss time this season after suffering a foot injury in the preseason. Thomas underwent surgery at the beginning of the month to insert a pin into her foot and the timetable for her return is unknown.

Duke coach Kerstin Kimel said Thomas was getting out of a double team in practice when it appeared she'd rolled her ankle. The injury was found to be a lisfranc fracture, a fracture in the foot that occasionally happens in football players — Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub sat out half of the 2011 season with a similar injury.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team opened its 2012 campaign with an 11-6 victory over Detroit Thursday night in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. The Buckeyes led 3-1 after the first quarter and 8-3 at halftime en route to the victory. Detroit scored the first three goals of the second half to draw within two, but the Buckeyes shut out the Titans the rest of the way and scored the game’s final three goals for the victory.
