Recruiting Roundup: NSCLA Tournament Notes

IL intern Josh Davey was in Germantown, Md. yesterday to check out the NSCLA tournament. Though a rain storm through a crimp into the day's proceedings, Josh was able to get a few notes together. More from Friday's proceedings tomorrow on InsideLacrosse.com.
Major League Lacrosse: Goettelman approaches record as Long Island hosts Toronto

Win and in. Who would have guessed it?

After losing to Toronto and choking against Boston, the Lizards found themselves tied with the Nationals for last place. All of that is a distant memory, as the Lizards are currently sizzling, having won three straight. Now, they face the Nationals for the second of three meetings this season, as they seek not only to eliminate them, but to secure a playoff berth as well. However, there may be an even bigger story on Saturday if all goes accordingly for the MLL's longest tenured player.

Major League Lacrosse: Cannons, Outlaws battle Saturday with No. 1 on the line

Playing less than full strength, the Denver Outlaws overcame a third quarter four goal deficit to beat the Chicago Machine 15-11. With the win, the Outlaws nabbed a playoff berth for the fifth consecutive season. Although the team boasts an impressive regular season record and history of making the playoffs, it’s what actually happens when they get there that is not too pleasing for fans and players.

Blogs From Manchester: Brad Kamedulski Wraps Up With Team Poland

Cornell alumnus Brad Kamedulski ’10 was selected as a member of the first-ever Polish National Lacrosse team, which finished in 14th place at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships, held in Manchester, England. Kamedulski, whose grandfather Eugene Kamedulski was a Polish war hero fighting for the Allies in World War II before immigrating to the United States in 1954, acquired dual-citizenship this spring and was one of nine Americans on the team. Kamedulski wrote blogs for CornellBigRed.com throughout the tournament.

I must have been asked about 20 times what I thought of the experience at the World Championships. Mainly, I’ve been asked by my parents, since they were the ones that financed my trip and they don’t want to hear anything other than how amazing it was. Which is actually the truth but it’s funny how many people have asked me. It actually gave me a good amount of ideas to write about in this last blog. At the end of the day, we finished 14th overall, which is pretty good for a group of guys of which 2/3 have never played a competitive game of lacrosse in their lives. And, none of us had played with each other before July 8 when we arrived in Manchester.

NEWARK, DEL.—Playing before 100 yards of college coaches in beach chairs, under the lights of Delaware Stadium, on the University of Delaware campus, in sweltering heat, you wouldn’t know it was the fifth game of the day for many in the Battle of the Hotbed All-Stars. Not by the alacrity the senior and junior players ran the field in their respective all-star games Tuesday night.

At the 2006 FIL World Championships, Nike partnered with the Iroquois Nationals to make the undisputed most eye-catching uniforms of the entire tournament. As a result of the buzz that ensued, hopes were high for what the Iroquois would don in Manchester.

Obviously, the Iroquois weren't permitted to join in the games, and their uniforms were limited to background clips on news stories covering the developments.
