Visakha Bucha 2013 – Vesak Celebration in Thailand

Visakha Bucha, or the Vesak Day, is a Buddhist festival to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha Gautama.
In Thailand, a predominantly-Buddhist country, Visakha Bucha is a very important religious festival and is a public holiday.

When is Visakha Bucha 2013?

Thailand Visakha Bucha Day 2013 will fall on Friday, 24 May 2013. The celebration usually last for about a week, so you can expect the festive till as long as Thursday, 30 May 2013. Take note also that while many countries celebrate Vesak 2013 on 24 May or 25 May, Thailand also celebrates Visakha Bucha in May 2013. However, sometimes Thailand celebrates it in different month with other countries due to different method of calculation used.

Visakha Bucha 2013 Celebrations

Devotees will come to Buddhist temples to pray and pay respect to the Buddha, as well as offer food and alms to the monks. Monks will give blessings as well as Dhamma talks. In the evening, people will gather to join candle light procession.
