This update fixes the favoriting multi-role apps (Camera, iPod) and the “Quit” table cell text that appeared in other apps.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “sure, we are capable, but is there really a need?”

This tweak kind of smacks of that sentiment.

Sure, we can DO 7×7, but seriously, after seeing it… why would you?

Are you really that desperate for more app icon space? Frankly if you’re so packed for space and need to cram all you can into just a couple swipes, you’re an app pack rat. No one uses enough apps on a regular basis to warrant such an extreme measure. No one.

And, if by some bizarre, freak-of-nature, chance you do? Might I suggest Categories?

This is not scientific advancement. This isn’t curing people or saving lives, this is enjoying technology in the palm of our hands. If you really need to cram that much into your iPhone, I think you have bigger fish to fry than app storage space.

All that aside, however, I am mightily pissed that when I removed the tweak (and mind you, you have to actually uninstall it from Cydia to undo the adjustments, you cannot simply switch it off) it rearranged my icons and moved them to different screens altogether. I was none-to-pleased about that.

NOTE: Good news and bad news… I finally, after three attempts, got the jailbreak to stick, but am having issues with even getting Cydia to load data.

I am not sure what the issue is, or when I will have time to fix it, but will do my best to keep you posted.

Sorry, 3GS and iPod touch. You’re not invited to the party. Yet.

Also, one more caveat, you have to have Max OS to get er done, as it were.

and the appropriate IPSW which you may find here…

Create a Custom Restore IPSW through Pwnage – Make sure to select expert and deselect the “Activate Phone” option – this is what tripped me up the first time. Once that is complete (roughly 5 minutes) put the phone into DFU mode then open iTunes and hold Option when you click Restore – browse for the custom restore IPSW you just created and sync as normal.

The sync can take upwards of 15 minutes.

Enjoy your newly updated iPhone.

Remember, Installer Apps takes no responsibility for any mishap that may occur during jailbreaking, so proceed with caution.

I also HIGHLY recommend you review Dev-Team’s Blog before proceeding. Make sure you’ve got the right IPSW and right device for this. Their blog can be a bit heady for some, so feel free to comment here if you have any questions. I’ll gladly walk you through as best I can.

Extensible Action Menu customization for OS versions 3.0/3.0.1. Integrates a variety of actions with every application on the device.

This app adds a couple tweaks to the iPhone OS, namely the clipboard.

It’s main draw is the ability to store multiple items on the clipboard at once, as opposed to the standard option of just one provided by Apple. It alters the the menu that appears and offers just a graphic representation instead of the textual one, though this can be disabled if you prefer.

It alleges that it offers some functionality in the dialer, but I have yet to figure that out, to be honest.

Frankly, though the idea of multiple things held on the clipboard is nice, it’s not really all that useful to me. And since I don’t find it’s user interface all that user friendly, I fail to see what this app really can provide.

The settings menu isn’t really all that descriptive with options like, “Dial” and “Favorites”.

Favorites takes you to a sub-menu, where you can create something (not a favorite contact, just favorite text) – text I imagine you can paste anywhere at any time without having to retype it over and over again. That has use, I suppose, but frankly, I don’t type much all that frequently to really find a practical time to apply it.

As it stands right now, it’s only available for the OS 3.0/3.0.1, which is perfectly reasonable, as it’s a jailbroken app and we don’t have access to a jailbroken 3.1 yet (come on dev team – we’re all rooting for you!), so if you’re running an iPod touch without the upgrade this isn’t a tweak you can play with.

When it all boils down to it, it’s not a bad adjustment, and I don’t want to come across as being completely flippant over it. I am sure there are a bunch of users who can find uses for this app (there is also an upgrade package available for purchase which provides you with more adjustments). I just kind of wish it was developed in a more obvious manner.

Board game in which you need to destroy all ships of enemy. This is a SPECIAL version that gives you free access to Global Multiplayer game. You’ll see that mode before AppStore users do.

Battleship meets Doodle. In this iPhone version of the classic board game, Battleship, your aim is to sink all the opponents ships (the opponent may be the computer or an anonymous user anywhere in the world. – the WiFi/Bluetooth version is available for purchase in the App Store for $0.99)

Click the space to drop your bomb and pray for a hit!

This game has always been a favorite of mine. This edition, in particular, is fantastic. The doodle drawing is simple, cute and, though hardly clever at this point, still, highly enjoyable.

The game speed is super quick, which is a huge plus in my book. One of my ultimate gripes with a good deal of games available for the iPhone is the lag time on them. This game wastes no time. You can bomb away in a split second.

It’s a fun game, and definitely worth downloading in my opinion.

Provides a pop-up list that can be used to switch to/launch other applications without having to return to SpringBoard

Kirikae has recently released a new verison (svn.r43), which adds a favorites tab at the bottom.

So now you can double-click the home button at any time to pull up another app, and even have a section of favorite apps ready to pull up, even if you’re not running them.

Some users (myself being one of them) report a major bug, however. When clicking the Favorites tab it forces the phone to quit and restart in safe mode.

Some users on the app’s comment page allege this is from adding the iPod to the favorites, and removing it should remedy this issue, however, after trying it myself I can still report the same error keeps occurring.

I don’t mind beta testing software on occasion, but frankly, as it stands right now, this app has ceased to be functional.

My suggestion is, if you haven’t updated yet, don’t. Wait for the developer to remedy this issue, or do what I did, and remove it for now.

At least now I get my double click iPod controls back… for now… maybe.

Set desktop and SMS background in the iPhone settings without WinterBoard

Don’t want to go through the hassle of respringing every time you want to try out a new background? Here’s a quick and simple alternative.

Open up settings, click wallpaper and select the image you want to lay out. Above the selection are 2 i’s. The left for SMS and the right for Wallpaper. Click once to lay, select Set and then go view.

Don’t like it? Simple enough, go back and press i again to remove it. (Don’t forget to press Set when done).

It’s not as in depth as WinterBoard, for sure, but it’s a quick and easy way to get the job done.

Of course, this won’t apply any icon changes or dock changes (though it does give you a reflective dock toggle now too).

Tic Tac Toe… Play this popular game on your device. 3 levels of difficulty, and multiplayer mode: over Bluetooth.

Tic Tac Toe is one of those consummate games that everyone has on his or her phone.

This version is pretty darn good. The graphics aren’t on par with what I would like, but they work. Game response can be a bit lagging at time (that could be a fault of my phone, though), but otherwise it’s a pretty solid version.

The best part about it is it’s incorporation of Bluetooth for 2 player game play. Now you and a friend can play against each other.

iCrack is an app where you could prank/trick your friends in thinking they broke your iDevice.

This is one of those cute, but useless apps that’s entertaining for about 10 seconds. Probably great for kids, or anyone who’s quite gullible.

It’s certainly not going to improve the use of your iPhone, but it’s definitely an app that will provide a chuckle.

I know you’re incredibly excited for Apple’s “Let’s Rock” Announcement tomorrow, but remember, you can’t update your firmware through iTunes if you want to keep your unlock status.

Resist that urge! Say, “NO!” to that update tomorrow. It won’t be long before a jailbroken release is available, and I’ll be sure to let you know when it is.

As a side note, Cydia Installer update 1.0.3 is available in Cydia today if you want to go get that. Maybe that will satiate your updating needs.

You can now upload your WHOLE music collection online and stream it anywhere. 3G/WiFi, whichever… and for free. Seriously? That’s AMAZING! (Granted that still doesn’t solve the problem of what to do when you’re without a signal, but there isn’t much they can do about that).

set up an account on www.mecanto.com and download the program to upload your music (PC only). Mac users you can upload manually, a pain, I know, but again, better than nothing!

Then open the app and enjoy.

NOTE: One major draw back is it doesn’t run in the background. With Backgrounder, however, you can override that flaw.

The beauty of this app is it works with (or without) Backgrounder. Simply double click and it pulls up a menu of running apps. Select from the list to switch.

If you have backgrounder installed (and if you ask me, you should), it runs both apps concurrently without quitting, if not, it simply switches to the other app and closes out of the one you’re in.

The one major draw back to this, however, is it takes control of your double press home option. For me, I’m losing iPod control at any time. Not a total deal breaker for me, frankly, so Kirikae has found a new home.

It’s got a great, simple interface (though I personally would prefer a smaller font size, but again, not a deal breaker) and it’s straightforward and easy to use. Not to mention, insanely convenient for those who multitask.

If you ever forget how to use it, simply open the app and select the “How to Use” option. Does it get any easier than that? I think not.

Ever wanted to use the term f*ck you, but can’t…?

We’ve all been in situations where we just need to curse someone out, but know its best not to.

This app certainly won’t solve that problem, but it’s still a good alternative. Simply open the app, press the button and achieve release.

This is app is a no frills soundboard with just one sound, “Fuck you.”

I certainly wouldn’t mind using it on my unnecessarily loud neighbor right now.

Give it a try, you’d be surprised by how useful it actually can be.

Anonymous? Have you ever wanted to be anonymous? Now you have a chance, don’t waste it. This application allows you to send an email that comes from any email account you wish, it works without any configuration.

Much like the spoof phone app, now you can email an anonymous email to anyone you know. Populate your recipient information as well as the information you wish to send from (presumably not YOUR own email account, of course, that would defeat the purpose of the app) and write away.

Now, of course, one can quickly and easily think of all the trouble one can cause with such an app (and now would be a good time to assert our non-liability clause!)

It’s like any tool; it’s a weapon if you hold it right. What you do with it is your call, but I still feel the need to remind you, gentle reader, it’s always ill-advised to cause harm. That karma thing might just get you.

iBeatz is a new app that let’s you make your own beats right on your iPhone.

There isn’t much to this app, really. A couple noise beats and that’s about it. It has the standard snare (3 variations), violin and clap, as well as some other choice selections, but other than hitting them at random, this doesn’t really offer you much more than that.

That’s not really a beat, that’s just a cacophony of sounds. It doesn’t have a musical background playing nor an option to even record your musical composition. It kind of leaves you with that ultimate iPhone app question, “now what?”

Perhaps with a few tweaks and updates this app will be worth checking out. For now, save yourself the time and move along.

Bluetooth Image let’s you quickly share your Photo Library between two iPhones or iPod Touches.

It doesn’t get any more basic than this. And how brilliant it is! Sure, there is that “Mover” app that Apple even touted on their commercial, but both parties need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for that to work… and really? When does THAT ever happen?

Of course the hitch of running into someone with a jailbroken iPhone is probably just as unlikely, this is still, by far, a much better method for sharing photos directly.

Any app that utilizes sharing of media though existing channels is ok in my book. This app took it to the next level. Kudos to you Chris (the developer). This is a brilliant app!

Add a lot of objects and modify them to fit your photos.

Add silly items to an existing photo! The options range from an array of eyewear, hair styles, necklaces and more. Quite cute and fun for kids of any age.

You can take a photo through the app, select a photo of your own or choose one from the “Hollywood Celebrities” album, which currently houses 2 photos, one of each developer.

The app has a great interface. Kind of.

There are a couple of glaring flaws, such as lack of back button, or some alternative to take you back to the main menu to add more items to the photo. As it stands now you can add just one and adjust it to fit the photo.

(If there is a way to do this, it is anything but obvious)

The other OBVIOUSLY glaring oversight is a save option. My best guess is the developers thought a user could just do a screen grab, but that’s hardly a keen developer strategy if you ask me.

With updates to it and more items added, this app could actually be a fantastic app. As it stands now, it’s a fantastic idea that has been executed in a mediocre fashion.

(Also another app that asks for location, which functions despite not permitting it)
