Finding a stud may be hard, or just hanging the picture straight is challenging for many people!
It is well worth your time and effort to use a level when hanging your pictures.

Did you know that pictures weighing less than ten pounds can be hung on a straight pin? I've done it many times and it works! Saves your walls from the big nail holes as well.

When hanging pictures, the perfect height is about eye level. If hanging them over your sofa, a little lower is okay. Generally, though, eye level is good. Also, when putting together a grouping, always use an odd number of pieces. For example, a large picture with two accents on each side (5 total pieces) looks wonderful. An even number of items just doesn't work.

Never hang pictures where sunlight or light sources will shine directly on them. This can cause yellowing and fading of your pictures. Keep them away from light sources.

Well, that's it for the picture tips - hope you found something you can use!

FREE Newsletter - Lots of Goodies!

We believe our customers are the top priority in our business - that's what keeps us in business! You can’t have a cluttered house AND a beautiful house. Here are some tips to help you clear the clutter, and keep your home looking the way you want it: beautiful!

1. A Place For Every Thing
One cause of clutter is that people try to have more stuff than they do room. If you have "stuff" that doesn’t have a place, you should consider parting with it. If that isn’t an option, then renting a small storage unit, or tucking some items in boxes in the attic, might be the answer. If you have a small home, one possible solution is to add several wall shelves. You could even dedicate an entire wall to this. Adding shelving will provide lots of extra storage for books and knick knacks. The point is that everything must have a place, and must be in its place.

2. A "Stuff" Bucket
As you and your family go about their days, it’s inevitable that some of their "stuff" is going to be left throughout the house. Instead of you having to spend all day running around to every room in the house putting everyone’s stuff away, place a "stuff" bucket in some not-so-visible location in your home. Make it a rule that this bucket must be emptied each night before bed. Each member of the family must check the bucket and remove items that belong to them. Any items left in the bucket will be donated to charity or tossed away.

3. Touch it Only Once
Another big cause of clutter is paper. Endless junk mail, bills, receipts and letters….it seems that the flow of paper will never end. It’s easy for your desk or dining room table to quickly become covered in papers, and that looks just plain messy. A quick tip to avoid such messes is to plan to touch each piece of paper only one time. That means that when you open a letter, you read it and then it either gets filed or thrown away. You do NOT put it on the table to put it away "later". You plan to only touch it once. This will stop the clutter, and will also save you time as you won’t have to deal with the same papers over and over again. You read it and either file it or toss it.

4. Clear it as You Go
As you complete various tasks throughout the day, clear clutter as you go. If you walk by some shoes, toys or other items that family members have left laying around, toss them into your stuff bucket instead of leaving them there. If you see items that are out of place, put them away as you go about your day. This will keep your home clutter free even as you are busy during the day, and will cut down on your end of the day picking up as you’ll have kept up with it all day.

These tips are simple ways to get you started on the road to clutter free living. Start using them today and you’ll be on your way to a more beautiful home!

Jessica Ackerman writes for Wall Décor and Home Accents - visit for information on metal wall art , wall décorations and more.

Enjoy this article? Making your lawn and garden attractive and appealing is just as important as decorating the inside of your home to make it beautiful and welcoming. After all, it is the first impression a visitor gets of you - it's the first thing they see!

What do your visitors see when they first arrive at your home? A well-kept lawn with well placed garden decor, or an unkept and scraggly mess? Whatever the answer is, this makes a big impression of who you are to your visitor.

Investing in beautiful patio and garden decor is one of the best moves you will ever make. It's an investment you will enjoy for years to come, and it also makes a huge impact when it comes to selling your home. A well manicured and appointed lawn speaks volumes to prospective buyers of your home. It lets them know how you have taken care of your home, as well as your lawn, over the years.

Deck and patio furniture can add tremendous beauty to the look of your decor. If you have a contemporary home, use furniture to match your style. Wooden benches, tables and chairs add charm to a country style home. Add some wood flowerboxes to your windowsills for extra charm!

There are many different things you can do to decorate your lawn. Outdoor fountains are very popular and can be found in any style from country to contemporary and even inspirational. An added bonus of outdoor fountains is the soothing and relaxing sound of trickling water.

Birdfeeders are another item easily used to add color and beauty to your garden decor. Standing and hanging birdfeeders come in many different varieties from very simple to extremely decorative and exotic. It's so enjoyable watching the birds flutter from the trees to the feeder.

Garden statues are yet another beautiful way to add interest and character to your garden decor. There are endless varieties of statues you can use, again according to your decorating style. Stately lions look elegant guarding each side of your drive entrance if you have a large and luxurious home. Wooden ducks, rooster statues and ceramic flower pots are charming for the country style home.

There are many other accessories that can be used to decorate your patio and garden. Wrought iron benches, windchimes, stepping stones - just use your imagination. With little time and effort, your patio and garden will have curb appeal - it may even cause a traffic jam!

Home Decor - New sale each week!

In my business, making the customer happy is number one. One Pot Country Dinner

I have decided that since we do alot of cooking at my house, I am going to start including recipes here! We do some pretty good country cooking, if I do say so myself:) Here we go with the first:

What you will need:

1 ham steak, or package of thick sliced ham
2-3 medium potatoes
1/2 head cabbage
2 yellow squash
1/2 white onion

Cut potatoes into 1/4" slices, such as you would use for au gratin or scalloped potatoes. Do the same with the squash. Slice the onion thinly and tear up 1/2 head of cabbage into whatever size pieces you like.

In large pot with about 1 inch of water in the bottom, start layering potatoes, onion, squash, cabbage then repeat until you have used all ingredients. Lay ham steak or pieces over top of entire mixture, cover with lid and boil on med-high for about 15 or 20 minutes. You're done!

We like to sprinkle a little Cavenders greek seasoning between each layer, but that is totally up to you. The ham flavor seeps into all of the veggies during cooking, and it is absolutely delicious (and super easy!) Add some cornbread, and you've got the perfect country supper in no time!

Save Money - Subscribe to our Newsletter!

At All About Home Decor we are now in the process of starting a free monthly newsletter! Cheap = BIG Changes

If you are like most of us, your kitchen has looked pretty much the same for 20 years. Since it is one of the most costly rooms in your home to have a total remodel done on, this post will give you a few ideas that will drastically change the look of your room without hurting the old pocketbook too much!

PAINT! You can paint just about anything, so here we go. First of all, paint your walls beautiful tones such as country blue (a medium grayish-blue color), seafoam or a light mauve. These colors enliven the room without being too bright or too dark. Next, paint your cabinets white - you can paint over stain, polyurethane or just about anything. Give them a couple of coats of paint, especially if they were dark to begin with.

Now, just add some new cabinet handles and drawer pulls, either solid colors or something more colorful if you like, such as floral patterns. Throw down a new rug in front of your sink, and you're done!

This may not sound like such a big change, but once you are done you will see that your kitchen looks totally different than before! The best part is, instead of spending thousands of dollars for a kitchen overhaul, you will only spend a couple of hundred. And your kitchen is once again gorgeous!

Country and Western Decor - Mix it Up!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1WQU8mD8Zzs/R4UwD6CaBBI/AAAAAAAAAC8/_12_hfYzPUE/s200/38287.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5153578192272491538" />
Don't be afraid of mixing things up a bit when it comes to decorating your home! Many people mix country home decor and western decor together, which is a wonderful look! With the rustic colors and rich cowboy and indian characters, vibrantly hued roosters and adorable cows and other farm life, this is a very comfortable and relaxed look to add to your home. The most important person to please when decorating your home is YOU - after all, you and your family are the ones who live there, 24 hours a day. When people visit your home, let them see by the relaxed and inviting atmosphere that you create that "Home is where the Heart is".

Color Your Home Beautiful

When decorating your home, color is extremely important! For a light, airy look, you may want to use light colors and textures such as is used in the shabby chic style of decor. These colors range from white to soft pastels such as light shades of sage, pink, tan and so on. Accents in this type of decor have a distressed finish, meaning they have a worn look, which is perfect for this charming and romantic style.

Contemporary styles of decorating sometimes use a monochromatic color scheme as well. Colors usually used in contemporary decorating are browns, tans, and shades of beige. You can add a dash of color in this style by using colorful vases and area rugs. Doing this helps achieve a more sophisticated look.

Country home decor and southwestern style use much more color than some other types of home decor. In the country style decor, most of the accents used are very colorful. Items used in this decor include roosters which are extremely colorful, sunflowers, rustic colored pictures, etc. Many brightly colored items such as checked or sunflower patterned dish towels, tablecloths and curtains are also used in country style kitchens.

For bold color, southwestern home decor is the perfect choice! Reds, blues, yellows and browns are widely used with this style of decor. These rich colors are included in vases, pictures and Indian type statues and figurines, many having very colorful feathers and leather accents. Southwestern decor is in my opinion one of the boldest styles of decor, as well as Asian with the bold red, black, and gold commonly used.

Whatever colors you desire for your home decor, there are certainly plenty of styles to choose from. Decide whether you want a light, airy feel for your home or something bolder that really makes a statement. Whatever style you choose, color your home beautiful!

Looks aren't the Only Thing that Matters!

We all love for our homes to look beautiful and elegant, but what about another very important element of our home - fragrance? When you have friends and visitors come to your home, of course they notice how your home looks, your decor, and how attractive and inviting it is. But they also notice the way it smells! It is essential that we leave our visitors with an impression of a great smelling home. Naturally, everyone's home has some unflattering odors at times, caused by several different things: cooking odors, chemicals in cleaners, sometimes tobacco smoke, etc. To help keep your home smelling as great as it looks, always keep a can of Lysol nearby to spray after you have finished cooking to help eliminate those odors. Another great idea if you have a wood burning stove is to set an iron kettle on top and fill it with water. You can then add some spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves to the water. This will give your home a warm country scent that is wonderful! Of course, burning candles is always a good idea, just make sure you burn them in a safe location. Potpourri and incense work well too. Just remember, looks aren't the only thing that matters!

Elegant Wine Decor - Vive La France!

Looking for something unique and distinguishing for your home decor? Wine decor! I know you're thinking, "what"? Wine decor is what some would refer to as French or Vive La France. It is absolutely elegant, and a great style of decor to use if you like rich, deep hues such as burgundy, dark blue and purple. Of course, since we are talking wine here, there are many grapes involved also.

You can find shadowbox art and wall pictures with wine bottles, grapes and vines - all of these are gorgeous and give you the rich hues you want, with a weathered wood finish. Decorative plates are great for adding more interest to your walls.

Wrought iron is a wonderful complement to wine decor. There are countertop scrollwork wine racks available, as well as beautiful wine racks that actually hang on the wall! Add some wrought iron candle holders and wall sconces, and you have a beautiful kitchen or dining room that looks like it came straight out of France. Vive La France!

Have a Blessed New Year

As the end of 2007 is upon us, I hope each of you have had a wonderful and prosperous year. This is the most used room other than the family room for most families! You want to make sure that this room is beautiful, as well as comfortable. There are many things you can do to give your kitchen an atmosphere that your family as well as your visitors will love.

If you still have baskets hanging on your walls or sitting above your cabinets as part of your kitchen decor, it's time for a makeover! Do you like country style home decor? If so, you can certainly still use your baskets, just line them with a bright checked country pattern fabric. A farm theme type of decor would be perfect for you. There are many items available to use in this style from rooster clocks, wall plaques and dinnerware to cookie jars and cow figurines. You can even get a hen-styled egg basket that is charming!

If you have en empty wall in your kitchen or dining room, this is the perfect place for a bakers rack. Whether it's made of wood, metal or wrought iron, you can add all of your favorite country accents - figurines, rooster decorated tea pots, a few small plants or candles, whatever you like. This will add a warm and very welcoming feeling to your kitchen.

Another great addition to your country style kitchen is decorative wall plates! These add an enormous amount of color to your walls, and the rustic colors normally used in rooster kitchen decor are warm and inviting. If you have the type of wall plates that hang vertically, add a country picture on each side of your display for a charming addition to your kitchen or dining room.

Do you have an island in your kitchen? If so, adding a hanging wrought iron pot rack will add even more ambience to your room. Red or dark blue pots and pans hanging from your pot rack will match wonderfully with the colors you use in country decor.

As you can see, there are dozens of ways to update your kitchen using country style accents. This style of decorating brings to mind the childhood memories of grandma's house - what a wonderful warm and loving atmosphere that was! You can create the same feeling for your home with just a few country items and a little imagination.

Wrought Iron Decor - Make Your Home Unforgettable

Wrought iron decor is extremely popular these days, and it's no wonder. Although we should remember Jesus and his birth throughout the year, this time of year brings about the sometimes forgotten feelings of love and joy that we should carry with us always. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, though some prefer to forget that fact. Many people look at Christmas as a time when we get to enjoy big meals and nice gifts. This is part of it, but don't leave Christ out - he is the reason we are here today! Thank God for everything you have, and if you will pray and worship him throughout the year he will bless you and your life richly. Have a wonderful and happy holiday season, and may God bless you now and throughout all next year. May you experience an abundance of Heavenly blessings.

Down Here in the Boonies, Anything Goes!

I know I own a home decor and gifts business, but I have to let you know what the true decorating style of the south is. Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this, but in the South, ANYTHING goes! I'm sure you have all heard different stories about the South on TV, among other places. Jeff Foxworthy does a pretty good job in his stand up routines of describing how things are down here in Boonieville.

Cars up on blocks in the front yard? Don't have any of those myself, but I have seen plenty of them around the area! Anyone need an extra washer, dryer, refrigerator (you get the drift) - you can find one down the road in so-and-so's yard. May have to weed eat around it to get to it, though.

I have to tell you this one little story - this is the honest to God's truth. About 3 miles from where I live, there is a little white frame house that is actually kept pretty neat and clean, but there is one thing that I saw in passing one day and had to rub my eyes and look again. There, in the middle of the front yard, were two toilets, painted black, with flowers growing in them! I know we do some pretty unheard of things in the South, but I had NEVER seen this done before! We still get a pretty good laugh when we pass that house. Funny thing is, I really believe they think it looks attractive!

Anyway, I like the country interior decor. I have wagon wheels hanging on my living room wall, an old washboard, antique saws and fishing and hunting shadowboxes. With wood floors and a black iron wood stove, this makes for a pretty cabin in the woods type of decor. Warm, inviting and cozy. That's how I like it! But I will leave the toilet and extra household item yard decorating to others - that's not really my style! I'd rather have a big buck decoy, myself.

Tess

Bottom Line Wholesale

Massive Decluttering For Your Home - A Lean And Mean Plan

Author: Lu Smith

Let's get down to business. Decluttering your home starts with making a list. That's your written plan of steadily attacking what's been standing in your way. The easiest angle of attack is going to be a raw-and-ready move on clutter spots where you can make the fastest and most visible progress.

Which one is it? It's your call. For example, is it a toss up between first getting to the living room or the office? Blitz through and transform the room where guests and visitors are likely to gather the most first. So, if it's your living room - go for it. (Match your launch spot of decluttering to your specific needs.)

If it's the latter, an office can usually handle its proverbial "organized mess" for a smidge longer, and without "witnesses". While the office can simply wait, the living room is where you eagerly begin disarming the clutter of its power over you.

You are in charge. Decide according to what is most important to you to declutter first. That's your first step. The second one: take a good look around you. Take a before and after picture to have hard evidence that your efforts were worth every minute of your valuable time.

Now, arm yourself with the "Tools for the Decluttering Trade".

You'll need garbage bags, cardboard or plastic boxes, cleaning supplies (including a vacuum cleaner), a notebook with a pen, handy refreshments, and your favorite good-mood tunes. Add to the list as you see fit.

Start from one corner of the room, or even in the middle, if you feel like it. Warm up by creating good working space around you. Then, select and clear some handy space for "dumping grounds" to make your efforts uninterrupted and effective.

Next, dominate from here by steadily moving forward. The "stuff" that has been sitting around for ages while gradually impinging on your everyday life - you are after it today. Start with using garbage bags, boxes, and storage bins that you've got ready and start filling them up.

Paperwork is clutter as well; sort through it enough as not to miss any important documents like banking statements, overdue utility bills, or other essential correspondence alike. Keep them where you can easily find them for now. Transfer everything else onto the dumping grounds.

Watch it, though. If at any time you get the urge to sit down and wade through your paperwork in depth, the end of your decluttering efforts sets in. Staying AWAY from "doing" your paperwork makes more sense. Resist the urge and press on. You'll get around to that a bit later.

Now, as for anything that looks extra nasty and remotely resembles bits and pieces like if they came out of a refuse bin - getting rid of them is the hygienic way to go.

Everything else that doesn't fall into the previous two categories should go into:

1. Essential Items - the stuff that you absolutely positively must have.

2. Sentimental Items - you don't need'em but they do bring back fond memories.

(Note: Do they bring occasional fond memories, or have they been forcing you to live in the past?)

3. Items You Want ...but don't need - I think that says it all, don't you think?

Why does this blitz tactic deliver? You're not stuck on "doing" paperwork. That comes later when you can fully focus on doing your paperwork.

What also makes this method tick is the small corner you've cleared for the "dumping grounds".

Once you get into the swing of things, it's downright invigorating to be able to throw things around the room as your "purging action" takes a load off.

At last, decluttering a messy room becomes less of a chore and more fun and relaxed.

What do you do with everything that's piled up on "the dumping grounds" by the end of the day?

Let large garbage bags gobble up anything that's clearly going to the garbage bin. Recycle items that you can. Donate any usable and in-a-good-working-condition items to charity.

In short, quickly sort the stuff and get it out.

That's the golden rule to follow at the end of every power-decluttering day.

Why?

One: You want to avoid mixing the stuff you want to dump with the stuff you want to keep (after you've done such a great job :).

Two: You may need more than a day to declutter a room. Seeing a part of the job done gives you the inspiration fuel to continue.

If it's discouraging to declutter everything in an uninterrupted, massive rip through, take a short break to refresh, and come back early to finish the task with flying colors. On the other hand, if the idea of leaving the job half done bugs you to no end, soothe the uneasiness by finishing the crack down on clutter without delays.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/massive-decluttering-for-your-home-a-lean-and-mean-plan-157988.html

About the Author:

Discover Lou's expert advice about Discount Window Blinds, Cellular Shades and Pleated Shades today.
