The Horizon My Life in Data Centre for Doctoral Training will train a community of PhD students with the interdisciplinary skills to address the challenge of digital identity and personal data for the 21st century. In collaboration with industry and international partners, our students will establish the technologies, applications and principles to enable citizens to construct their digital identities from personal data and effectively manage them to derive economic and social value. We are interested in students from a wide variety of backgrounds including computer science, engineering, human factors, psychology, sociology, business, geography, social science and the arts, providing they have an excellent first degree and can demonstrate an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research. Students will be recruited onto one of three pathways; institutional, international or industry. Our industry research themes for this round include Communities, identities and place, Curating traveller identity, Digital identities for personalised media experiences, Intelligent mobility, Introducing a social perspective to future digital identity products, Data analytics for digital identity, The contextual footprint at work and Augmenting fast-moving consumer goods in the home to support sustainable living and wellbeing, and personal data to encourage wellbeing. Postgraduate Scholarship in Next Generation Mobile Communication Systems (5G) Two full-time postgraduate scholarships are available for suitably qualified candidates with a good honours degree or equivalent in science or engineering to undertake research studies leading to PhD in telecommunication networks. The successful candidates will be hosted in the Centre for Real-time Information Networks, University of Technology Sydney and conduct research in the field of next generation mobile communication systems (5G). The following topic areas in the next generation mobile communication systems will be investigated (but not limited to): * Modelling and performance analysis of dense and small-cell networks * Network architecture design * Spectrum and interference management * Cooperative communication strategy * Energy efficient communication techniques * Information centric networks ELIGIBILITY: Applicants should have solid mathematical, telecommunications or electrical engineering background, and a particular interest in applying sophisticated mathematical skills to study large-scale mobile communication systems. The scholarship is only for PhD candidates. Successful applicants should meet the admission requirements for PhD and are expected to start their enrolment at the University of Technology Sydney in Semester 2, 2014 or Semester 1, 2015. Preference may be given to candidates who can start early. AMOUNT AWARDED: The scholarship is valued at $25,392 per annum (tax exempt) and may be renewed for up to three and a half years, subject to satisfactory progress. The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies invites
applications for 5 Doctoral Positions (according to the German TV-L) and 5 PhD Scholarships, available from November 15, 2013, for two years with the option of extension for eighteen months. The Graduate School is a cooperative venture organized by LMU Munich and University of Regensburg, funded by the DFG as part of the German Excellence Initiative.

Research is conducted in three broad, interdisciplinary fields: Origins and
Forms of Social and Political Change, Cultural Systems, Infrastructure,
Migration and Transfer of Knowledge. Research at the Graduate School focuses on interrelations and interdependencies between East and Southeast Europe and other regions of the World. Interest in interdisciplinary research questions
and sensitivity for transnational and spatial perspectives are expected. The
Graduate School draws on the following disciplines: History, literary and
language studies, art history, theater studies, political sciences and law. In
the context of cross regional comparisons and transfer studies the School’s expertise in area studies is complemented by Chinese, Japanese and North American studies.

The doctoral positions are available for a period of two years with the option
of extension for another eighteen months. Remuneration is based on Grade E 13 TV-L (65%) of the German Public Service Salary Scale. The teaching obligation amounts to one SPW. PhD Scholarships are awarded for two years with the option of extension for another eighteen months. A monthly stipend of 1.365 Euro is provided, plus travel funds, grants for material costs as well as child care expenses in accordance with DFG guidelines where applicable. The holders of both the doctoral positions and the scholarships will be expected to conduct an independent research project, which contributes to the graduate school’s fields of research. Participation in the seminars and qualification program is

The University of Siena invites applications for the Graduate Program in
Economics. The University and the city offer a unique environment for
study and research in Europe.

Scholarship.

A maximum of 16 students will be admitted. The 8 most qualified
candidates will be awarded a four-year scholarship of about €10,500
($16,500) per year, after tax, for a total of about $42,000 ($67,000),
plus tuition remission. A limited number of students can take advantage
of lodging offered by the University of Siena in the Post-Graduate
College “S. Chiara” (http://www.unisi.it/santachiara/homeEn.html) sited
in the historical centre of Siena.

The Graduate Program.

The goal of the program is to train professional economists. Former
students hold positions as economists in the academia, in consulting
businesses, and in national and internationals economic institutions,
such as central banks and regulators.

The first two years of the Program are devoted to full-time courses. All
of these are taught in English, the official language of the Program.
After fundamental training in Mathematics, Microeconomics,
Macroeconomics and Econometrics, a full menu of specialized courses is
offered. Students are exposed to different theoretical and
methodological points of view, in order to be able to explore the
frontier of economics in an original way. Students are also required to
participate in research activities, such as economics seminars and
workshops. Admission to the second year is conditioned on the results of
all first year final exams. Starting from the second year, students will
develop their own research, under the supervision of a faculty member.
While working at their dissertation, students are encouraged to
undertake periods of research in foreign academic institutions. In this
case the scholarship is increased by 50%. The doctorate is awarded after
discussion of an original piece of scientific work (which can be written

specialistica” or a “4-years laurea” or equivalent 4-5 years foreign

Description: The Life Science Zurich Graduate School consists of nine highly competitive Ph.D. programs, run jointly by the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Each program offers research and education opportunities in a stimulating international environment for ambitious students who wish to work towards a Ph.D. degree. Postdoctoral Positions in Robotics at MIT

Robotics Laboratory at CSAIL, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Each appointment duration is 12 months, with a possible extension of
another 12 months.

Position 1
========
The research will be focused on designing small soft robots capable of
locomotion and
internal deformation, in order to squeeze through holes narrower than
the robot body.
The research will investigate the role of new materials and non-
traditional actuation in
designing and controlling such machines. The research will also
investigate control and
planning algorithms for this type of system. This project is a
collaboration between MIT,
Harvard, and iRobot. For this position we are looking for applicants
with robotics background.
Applicants with chemical engineering background can also be a good fit.
We are looking for candidates with knowledge of mechanism design
and control, demonstrated creativity, and experience with building
robots.

Position 2
========
The research will be focused on decentralized control of multi-robot
systems. We are
looking for creative candidates with strong background in control
theory, estimation theory,
and experience with implementing algorithms on hardware platforms.
Some knowledge
of computer networking is also desirable.

The PhD Programme in Agrobiodiversity is aimed at the enhancement of human resource capacities in the use and management of genetic variation in agricultural and natural systems, in order to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems and the conservation of genetic resources for the well-being of present and future generations.

The Programme is structured in the following curricula:
Curriculum A - Plant genetic resources: teaching and research activities take place in ENEA Research Center at "La Casaccia", a few kilometres from Rome;
Curriculum B - Functional biodiversity in agroecosystems : teaching and research activities take place in Pisa, at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.

Admission Requirements
- possession of a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree or equivalent title in Experimental Sciences, at an Italian or foreign university and ssession of a Degree awarded after, at least, a four-year course in Experimental Sciences;
- to be younger than 35 years (date of birth after 15 July 1974), older than 35 may be exceptionally admitted by the Admission Committee.

6 positions with 6 fellowships (the net amount is € 12.500, all inclusive):
the first 4 (four) eligible candidates of Curriculum A and the first 2 (two) eligible candidates of Curriculum B will be awarded a scholarship. The School may also admit eligible candidates up to a maximum number of 2 positions.

Masters Studentships in the History of Medicine

The School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University is pleased to advertise between 4 and 6 Masters Studentship Awards for postgraduate study in Newcastle’s Wellcome Trust recognised MA programme in the History of Medicine during the academic year 2009-10. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2009.

The stipends for these awards will be set as follows: Two studentships will be awarded at either £15,000 (including home/EU fees) for full-time home/EU students, or £20,000 (including international fees) for full-time non-EU students of outstanding merit; the other studentships will be awarded at either £5,000 (including home/EU-fees) for meritorious full-time home/EU students, or £10,000 (including international fees) for non-EU students. Part time studentships will be awarded to meritorious applicants at c. half the above rate per annum.

The studentships are funded by the Northern Centre for the History of Medicine and will be available as of September 2009. The Northern Centre is a partnership between the Universities of Newcastle and Durham, and is supported by the Wellcome Trust. Successful applicants will join the postgraduate community based at the School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University. Postgraduate teaching and research supervision in the History of Medicine at Newcastle is delivered by scholars with established international reputations in the field.

Eligibility: Applications for the studentship are invited from highly motivated
graduates from various backgrounds including the Humanities and Social Sciences (e.g. History, Classics, Philosophy, Literature, Religious Studies, Archaeology, Psychology, Sciences, Sociology etc.). Applicants require a good (or predicted) undergraduate degree result (1st or high 2:1) in such a subject. Candidates with a medical background are also strongly encouraged to apply, and the studentship is open to current stage 4 Newcastle medical students who have opted to take the MA in the History of Medicine as an intercalated degree after stage 4 MBBS. Applications from overseas candidates with equivalent qualifications are also very welcome.

International Scholarship 2009 : PhD position in neuroscience

The Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) is a newly established interdisciplinary institution at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen funded by the German Excellence Initiative program.
Highly motivated and enthusiastic applicants are invited for PhD research positions in CIN to explore the molecular and cellular processes underlying senses of touch and pain.

Although mechanosensation might be the most ancient of our five senses, touch and mechanical pain remain the least understood of the vertebrate sensory transduction events both at cellular and molecular level. In order to investigate the molecular and cellular nature of mechanosensation, electrophysiology techniques, calcium imaging, cell culture techniques and immunofluorescence staining, confocal laser scanning microscopy, electron microscopy and standard techniques of molecular cell biology will be employed.

Applicants are expected to be enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary and challenging research area, and should be highly motivated. In addition, applicants with a background in neuroscience or biophysics are highly encouraged to apply.

EU-funded scholarships available for regional Asia nationals
The Erasmus Mundus External Window programme for Regional Asia, called
'EMMA', provides funding opportunities for students, researchers and
academic staff to take part in 'mobilities' between the target group
countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar/Burma, Nepal, North Korea,
Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand) and the EU.
In general, the programme offers study scholarships for
above-mentioned nationals to attend courses, at Bachelor and Master
level, pursue PhDs, Post Doctoral research and to facilitate academic
staff exchange.

ADB Scholarship 2009: ADB - Japan Scholarship Program, Department of Economics NUS National University of Singapore

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) - Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan. It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development- related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region. The ADB-JSP enrolls about 300 students annually in 20 academic institutions located in 10 countries within the Region.

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION

The ADB-JSP provides full scholarships for one to two years.

* full tuition fees

The scholarship is for one year with an extension to the second year of study, as appropriate, which shall be conditional on the scholar maintaining a satisfactory level of performance as determined by the institute. The maximum duration of scholarship award is two years for masters and doctorate programs.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

* A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship) .
* Gained admission to an approved post graduate course in any of the participating academic institutions. (Department of Economics, National University of Singapore)
* A bachelor's degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
* At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience
* Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.
* Not more than 35 years old at the time of application.
* In good health.
* Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.
* Staff of participating academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of the other international organizations are not eligible for the Scholarship.
* Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the Scholarship.

Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.
