What’s a Good Place to Meet Older Women?

“Younger man looking for a place to meet older women” – is this a cliché or a sign of our times?

It’s a relatively new phenomenon, but now it seems all the rage for a younger man to meet older women online.

It’s at least equally true the other way around as well – and what I’m observing on some of the major dating sites is that many older women are now ONLY searching for younger men.

One woman explained it to me like this. In her view, men her own age (she’s in her 50′s) refuse to date her, so she’s forced to date younger men if she wants to have any relationship at all.

Another woman was more candid about her choice when she told me that when younger men meet older women, the benefit for the woman is that the man can get more erections – and – as an older woman, she gets satisfied more often by a younger guy.

One therapist I spoke with was less inclined to view men who want to meet older women as “sex toys” but instead feels that many older women are going through a mid-life crisis, and wanting to raise their self-esteem in the arms of a younger man.

Regardless of the psychodynamics of the younger man/older woman liaison, if you’re looking for a place to actually meet older women (or younger men) then look no further than the dating site Plenty of Fish. Here you’ll find thousands of opportunities to meet older women – or – if not that, then at least you’ll enjoy this site as a place to meet women in general.

Plenty of Fish is one of the largest free online dating sites in the world, but it’s a site with few if any rules, and the men and women who post dating profiles there seem less inclined to be honest about their age (my experience only) than they might be on other, mainstream, paid dating sites.

Many Plenty of Fish members even confess to this in their “About Me” essays. The rationalization is that by inserting a younger age, more prospective matches will find them during a search.

The practice of looking for younger men has evidently gained in popularity among women, and in searches I’ve conducted myself on Plenty of Fish, I’ve discovered that a high percentage of the women there are looking for men who are up to 25 years younger. If you’re a man looking to meet older women, and especially if you’re in your 20′s or 30′s, you’ll find yourself in the sweet spot as a target for women over 40 on that site – and especially for women over 50.

Some dating sites like match.com offer a “reverse search” in which you can actually see who’s searching for someone your age. You’ll be surprised to learn that the “older women seeking younger men” craze is rapidly gaining momentum on match.com and on many other sites too.

Why do Younger Men want to Meet Older Women?

We’ve talked about the benefits to the women who search for younger guys, but what’s in it for the men?

An Older Woman is more Established -
and Doesn’t Need a Guy’s Money

For a handsome younger guy who hasn’t fully developed his career yet, meeting older women takes the pressure off to wine and dine a woman, or spend money on expensive vacations. The women may offer to pay instead.

One of the appeals in wanting to meet older women is that they may not be as needy as younger women may be. This can be especially appealing to a guy who’s not wanting a full-time relationship and to guys who have other interests outside of “their relationship.”

Another one of the primary reasons for wanting to meet an older woman is her maturity. She’s less likely to throw a fit, or become a “high maintenance” type of girlfriend. In some cases, she’s worked all of this stuff out years ago with her therapist.

The Mother/Son Dynamic might Appeal to Both

It isn’t a great leap to wonder if an older woman/younger man relationship may, in some ways, resemble that of a mother and son. And for some couples, this dynamic may indeed apply. Perhaps for a woman who never had a son – or is missing one from her life – such a relationship may be attractive on some level (conscious or otherwise). And the same can be said for the guy. Maybe his relationship with his true mother was disappointing, and through a romantic relationship with an older woman, he can symbolically make up for it.

She may be Less Materialistic too

Pleasing a woman his own age might cost more, and the maintenance of such a relationship may be especially expensive. But an older woman may have arrived at a point in her life where she realizes that money is highly overrated and truly not what it’s cracked up to be; simple pleasures may appeal to her more – including those found between the sheets.

An Older Woman may also be Less Manipulative

Ask any guy in his 20′s or 30′s if he’s known women who play mind games, and he’ll ask you how much time you have to listen to his stories. The younger a woman is, the more likely she may still be caught up in driving men crazy. Meeting an older woman can be a breath of fresh air for a younger guy.

For many people, indulging in an older woman/younger man relationship becomes exciting just because it’s shocking to so many others. The excitement of being part of anything that society hasn’t fully accepted can make the experience exciting in and of itself.

To meet women online, you’ll first need the right mindset.

You’ll be competing with millions of other guys for thousands of beautiful women. But don’t let the competition intimidate you. With the right approach (I’ll show you how below) you’ll be in the driver’s seat, ahead of most of your competitors. You can meet women online by being a better communicator.

I can say this with confidence, because I have always blown away other men who were taller or better looking than me. I have the skill to communicate and meet women online – the kinds of women that most guys only dream about. Yes, it’s a skill, and yes, you can learn how it’s done. Just being tall, dark and handsome will only get you so far with all but the most shallow of women. What most women are looking for is a man who really understands them. And being tall and good-looking will only get you one date (if that) and it will never keep you in the game long-term, unless you’ve got other things going for you too. And to meet women online, all of those things can be learned.

To meet women online, you’ll start by gathering some tools:

• Join at least two dating sites. You can sign up right here, I make it easy for you.

• Learn how to create a killer Online Dating Profile. I provide Dating Profile instructions, but to make it foolproof, I’ll even design your dating profile for you.

• You’ll need a dozen studio quality photos – but they shouldn’t be taken in a studio. Find a good friend – even your sister – with a digital camera. Spend an afternoon outdoors and bring three changes of clothes: casual, business, and sporty. Take all of your photos in natural surroundings, and make sure that you’re close to the camera. You’ll need at least three amazing photos in all three outfits, so take about 100 photos altogether. Stand no farther than 10 feet from the camera, and take photos of you from the neck up, waist up, and head-to-toe. Turn on the flash if you’ll be in the shade and never take photos with the sun behind you.

• Learn how to write Letters of Introduction. To meet women online, you’ll need to awake the poet within. Study the writing of famous poets to fill you with inspiration:

Before you meet women online, make sure you’re prepared to talk on the telephone. As a professional Online Dating Coach, I’ll be happy to talk you through this. Use a landline whenever possible (your voice will sound deeper, and closer) and make sure all background noise is eliminated. Only call women between the hours of 7:00 and 8:30 PM unless they specifically ask you to do otherwise. Even when you meet women online, you’ll need to establish your respect for normal dating hours.

To Meet Women Online, Establish Yourself as Dependable

An important rule of online dating, like in any venture, is to always do what you say. When you make plans to talk to one of your matches, treat that call with the utmost respect. Call at the appointed hour, and don’t stay on the phone long the first time you talk. The purpose of the first phone call is to establish some mutual interest. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. Keep in mind that the women you meet online may not look as good as their photos. So don’t invest hours talking until you’re blue in the face. Have a warm and friendly conversation, and then make plans for coffee.

When you Meet Women Online, Make Romance #1

It’s important that you establish, from the very first contact, that you’re looking for romance – and not just a friend. You should always act friendly of course, but if any women you meet online starts to position you as “platonic” then make one attempt to sway the conversation back to romance, and if you’re unsuccessful, I suggest you move on. To Meet Women Online, Develop Good Listening Skills Too

The single biggest complaint I get about men is that they dominate the conversation and talk about themselves. If you learn nothing else from me today, remember this. To successfully meet women online, develop good listening skills too. Learn how to ask questions that show you are listening; become empathic and supportive too. The guys who are the most successful at meeting women online are those who don’t talk about themselves.

So let’s summarize:

That’s quite an education, isn’t it?

Most people write their Personal Ads so they sound just like … ads. They have a 1990′s ring to them – like something you might have seen in a mail order catalog back in the early days of Spencer Gifts. Describing yourself in your Personal Ads can be a daunting task, and I know this because I frequently hear about it from both women and men who contact me for help in writing their Personal Ads so they’ll attract the right kind of people.

So what’s the best way to write your Personal Ads?

One of the features of my own Personal Ads is that they never actually sound like an advertisement. Have you ever seen a full-page ad in a magazine or on a website which appears to be written like an editorial? Such ads are written like news stories. The big benefit to writing Personal Ads this way is how disarming this style of Personal Ads can be. Essentially, your Personal Ads are telling a story and entertaining your readers too. They’re a combination of humor, news, information, and sales – all wrapped up into one – like a beautiful work of art. This is the way to charm your readers while they’re browsing through the Personal Ads online, and the most successful syndicated news columnists know this from long experience.

If you have enough room to do this in your Personal Ads, write the longest ad you can – even if it ends up being close to 500 words! I know this is quite a departure from the 30-word Personal Ads you might be accustomed to. But longer is better in Online Dating – and this is particularly true when you’re creating really successful Personal Ads. (And I’m telling you this from experience!)

If you’ve been single for awhile, you already know that both women and men will want to know a lot about you before they’ll agree to be intimate – and maybe before they’ll even agree to meet you in the first place. So start the “warm up” process within your Personal Ads, and your first meeting won’t feel like you’re starting from square one. And warming someone up takes time (hence the higher word count I’ve recommended).

When you sit down to write your Personal Ads, create a theme that you can expand upon while you’re writing. Think about writing your Personal Ads like you’re writing a short story. The same elements apply. Create the star of your story (that’s got to be you!) and make your Personal Ads sound like an adventure. Get the readers of your Personal Ads involved in the plot. Use humor, suspense, and leave your readers hanging at the end – wanting to know more. To find out more, the readers of your Personal Ads will have to respond and introduce themselves to you! That’s the first part of your successful “sales process” – you’ll receive a reply letter from a new prospect – who in fact may soon become your next boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse!

But don’t stop there – once you’ve “made the sale” (in other words, when your Personal Ads have generated a letter – even a short one – from a reader who wants to know more) then keep “selling” yourself with honest, positive, and optimistic comments. Your goal, naturally, is to create the atmosphere for a first date.

Your Online Personal Ads should be written with your reader’s interests in mind. And the headlines at the top of your Personal Ads should accomplish two things – and they must accomplish them in a fraction of a second:

First, they must absolutely “target your reader.” In other words, they should select, from the crowd of people who are reading your ads, your perfect lover (or date, potential wife/husband, or whatever it is you’re looking for). This means that your Personal Ads should “qualify” your readers – right in the headlines themselves.

And the headlines of your Personal Ads should also convey some meaningful benefits. (Take a look at the headline of this post as a good example).

Personal Ads are truly a sophisticated art form. When you sit down to write your Personal Ads, you are really both a Story Teller and a Sales Strategist – combined.

You’re a Story Teller in that your Personal Ads should get your readers emotionally involved in your story. And you’re a Sale Strategist because you’ll have a goal in mind while your Personal Ads are telling your story!

The Headlines of Online Personal Ads

Here’s an example which shows how your Personal Ads can get your readers “emotionally involved” –

World Famous Author Searching for the Star of his Next Romance Novel

Can you see how this headline will appeal to women who get turned on by famous men, accomplished men, and romantic men – all rolled up into one?

And what are the benefits implied by this headline? You can read into this in all kinds of different ways, but let me suggest a few for starters. When a woman reads this headline she’ll imagine herself with an accomplished guy who has money. (And here’s a hint: women get turned on by this big time!) Women love romantic guys too. What this translates to are romantic vacations to beautiful tropical islands, romantic cruise ships, Valentine’s Day gifts, and more. But it’s not just that the author is world famous (although that, in itself, is plenty!) but also that he sees his future partner as “a Star” and therefore (again, implied) he’s not a self-centered guy who thinks only about his own pleasure. Can you appreciate this entire package coming from one well-written headline?

When you sit down to write the headlines of your own Personal Ads, put yourself in the shoes of your readers and ask yourself “What’s in it for me?”

In other words, why should your audience continue reading past the headlines of your Personal Ads – and onto the text below? And why should your readers respond to your Personal Ads? When you can think of some very compelling reasons in response to both of these questions, then translate your answers into great headlines and you’ll be on your way to getting lots of replies!

Need some Online Dating Help?

In spite of the spiraling growth of the Online Dating Industry – predicted to increase to $1.9 Billion in revenues by 2012 – there’s been a 53% increase in the number of people living alone since 1970 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Given that 23% of adults now go online for dating, one would expect fewer singles among adults – not more. Are the online dating services failing to deliver the goods – or are their members simply unprepared for success?  Or do a lot of people simply need some online dating help?

Let’s face the facts. A lot of people join online dating services with good intentions – and then fail to meet the man – or the woman – of their dreams.

But are the dating sites themselves to blame? Most would argue that making thousands of other members available means that they’ve met their obligations to those who pay.

So in other words, if I put you in a room with hundreds of other singles and you walk away empty-handed, who’s fault is it that you’ve failed to start a new relationship?

Regardless of your answer, since every online dating service has a disclaimer on their website, there’s very little you can do about it other than complain to customer service. And that won’t get you a relationship either.

It is my contention that many people fail at online dating for very specific reasons:

Their Online Personal Ads are written poorly;
Their Online Dating Profiles are unimaginative;
Their Letters of Introduction aren’t inviting, and
Their photos need some work too.

When you come right down to it, these are all marketing issues – every single one of them. And they’re all correctable.

But ironically, the dating sites usually don’t offer individual online dating help with their member’s ads, profiles, and introduction letters. Instead, many post only general guidelines to follow.

Which means that for most members of dating sites, it’s “Sink or Swim” to either success – or more often than not failure – when it comes time to meeting someone for a new relationship.

And what are the reasons cited for disappointment?

“All the good men are taken”
“The good-looking women on this site are all Gold Diggers”

And so on.

In truth, the most attractive 5% of all dating site members are dating each other!

So where does that leave the remaining 95% of the members?  (Which may include you).

Now we’re back to marketing again and it’s probably time to rewrite your personal ads and dating profile.

Too many people say they want a relationship and yet do nothing when the opportunity is staring them right in the face. Read this online dating help article to break free of indecision – and get moving in the right direction.

Does your long list of requirements really help you find a nurturing relationship?  Think about it. How critical is it that a man be comfortable in a tuxedo?  Unless you’re socializing with politicians or spend a lot of time at million-dollar fund raisers, how often does anyone wear formal attire?  And yet women regularly write in their personal ads about how important it is to meet a guy who is “comfortable in jeans or a tux.” Give me a break. If I’m not comfortable wearing a tuxedo, does this mean that you can’t have a relationship with me?  This is just one example of throwing the baby out with the bathwater when exploring online dating and the chance to meet someone nice on the Internet.

Rather than reducing your chances of meeting someone, try enhancing your success by following this advice:

If you start writing to someone online and it seems possible that you might be a match, then exchanging photos and talking on the phone are the best things to do next. Endless rounds of emails won’t help you achieve your dating goals. But talking on the phone advances the likelihood of starting a real relationship. After two or three calls, think about meeting for coffee. This brings the communication into the real world – where it ultimately belongs.

If you have a group of possibilities, stop (or at least pause) your online advertising and start talking to the likely candidates. Endless advertising is not your goal – your goal is a new relationship. Don’t confuse the means to the end with the end itself. In other words, your goal isn’t to have an endless supply of introduction letters, but rather to meet someone – and actually start dating.

Some people don’t trust anyone they’ve met online. Does the fact that someone uses a computer for socializing make them automatically suspicious?  Why be mistrusting of someone who uses online dating strategies to enhance their chances of finding a partner?  Surveys predict that nearly half of all single adults will soon go online for dating. The Online Dating industry is going through an explosive growth period and is now – and has been for some time – a mainstream method through which people meet and date. So get with the program!

Please don’t get me wrong. I love Craigslist.

But I could certainly do without all the scammers there. Especially the Internet dating scams – and everything you imagine when you think about a Craigslist Scam and everything that implies.

It’s really amazing what technology has done for us. With the right programming skills, you could set up an automatic system that would respond to literally every ad on Craigslist and send an enticing email – all designed to harvest millions of new email addresses for the purpose of sending out spam.

Yep, you guessed it. It’s another Internet dating scam.

So what’s the deal here, anyway? Why so many scammers on Craigslist and what’s the big payoff for them? And more importantly, how can you avoid getting taken for a ride yourself? What’s behind all the dating scams?

Spammers from other countries (and sadly, even some from the USA) are having a harder and harder time getting through all the spam filters we’ve created for ourselves. On many Internet servers, getting flooded by thousands of the same emails automatically deletes all of them regardless of your individual filters. Cox Communications, for example, won’t allow multiple copies (i.e., thousands or millions) of the same email. So you wouldn’t get a spam email if you’re a Cox customer unless the spam is sent out in small groups of letters – often three at a time or less than six. So to make it worthwhile for an Internet Dating scammer to mail to you, they are much better off knowing that their small email clusters are going to real people. And what better way to qualify them than getting a current reply to one of their phony letters – just like the ones I showed you above. Those are examples of true dating scams in action.

I don’t have to tell you what happens once your email address has been compromised. There was a time when I was getting more than two thousand spam messages a day. Now the number is less than fifteen – mainly due to the Cox filters they’ve installed – as well as my having additional filters that I’ve created myself.

But spam emails are just part of the problem on Craigslist. Dating scams can lead to much worse mischief than that. For example -

Oh, please. Apart from the awful spelling and grammar, such ads are so poorly written that they literally cry out “dating scam” to me. And should you be daring enough to respond to one of these dating scams, you may quickly find yourself on the other end of a telephone conversation with someone who just happens to need “some extra cash.”

And notice that the last example I’ve shown above even has the local airport code added after the city – this is a tip-off that you’re looking at a true Craigslist Scam in action.

So how can you protect yourself from such trash?

Here are a few tips from The Online Dating Coach –

1. Sign up for a few gmail accounts before you respond to Online Dating Ads on Craigslist – or anywhere else for that matter. As soon as you start getting more spam than you’re comfortable deleting, move onto the next email account. Even though a Craigslist scam may be difficult to avoid completely, you can quickly exit the communication by deleting your email address.

2. Study the examples I’ve cited above. Ads like these – which are generally unimaginative and sound like “men in their forties trying to sound like girls in their twenties” should be avoided. Dating scams almost always sound inauthentic.

3. Never respond to an email which contains a website link. Links in emails – especially in a response to one of your own ads – is the classic sign of a dating scam.

4. Never give your phone number away until at least the third letter exchange.

5. If you’re running a dating ad yourself, never answer a letter that doesn’t contain something specific about the content of your ad. (This tip is really important). Dating scams almost never include personalized letters.

6. Be especially cautious of replies you get within the first ten minutes of your posting an ad. Scammers have scripts which detect new ads and respond to them with form letters right away. Thoughtful, genuine replies often take at least an hour or more from the time you post your ad, and often longer.

7. Be on the lookout for suspicious email addresses. When someone writes to you from an address like Palifkakx78@mail.ru you can almost be sure that it’s a scam. Any email ending in .ru comes from Russia or its surrounding countries. Not that that proves anything one way or the other. Just be on the alert. (In Russia, the equivalent to our hotmail is “mail.ru” – just so you know).

8. Women’s ads that talk about sex are occasionally written by hookers – especially from women under 30.

9. Ads that sound like “ads” are often written by spam robots – like those I’ve cited above.

Will following my advice protect you from Craigslist scams? You betcha!

And will it protect you from Internet scammers and hookers? To some extent, yes. But your best protection will always be using good common sense.
