It’s predicted that by 2019 video will account for 80% of global Internet traffic, nearly a million minutes of video will be shared every second, and it would take someone 5 million years to watch all the video content shared each month. Video is a trend that is not going away anytime soon. Facebook has reported that its users currently watch 8 billion videos per day, which is an astronomical number. All these numbers indicate that there is a huge amount of money to be made from online video. It’s going to continue to be a key market to watch in the coming years.

People are using their mobile phones for shopping in record numbers this year. A recent study shows that 43% of consumers plan to use their phone for mobile shopping this year, while another 54% say they will use their smartphone or tablet to do holiday shopping research. As someone with an online brand you need to take note of these numbers. If you want to capitalize on them then you’ll need to nail your mobile presence. The key is to avoid falling into common mobile pitfalls. You shouldn’t equate mobile loyalty to a points program. Users need to feel like they have a legitimate and beneficial relationship with your brand on a mobile platform. Don’t treat mobile as an extension of your digital media strategy. It has its own specifications that need to be addressed. And finally, don’t shoehorn mobile into your brand if it doesn’t make sense for you. It’s better to focus on other areas than spending money on unnecessary mobile branding. For all the advice you need, check out the full article below!

Christmas is coming right up, which means your social media presence needs to reflect the season! Here’s how to get into the holiday spirit so that you can spread good cheer to all of your followers!

Black Friday? Over. Cyber Monday? Gone. That means the holiday shopping season is in full swing. Now is the most important time to capitalize on the holiday fever. This means you need to get your social media to reflect the Christmas spirit! Here’s how.

People decorate their homes with lights and wreaths for the holidays, so why not decorate your social media page, too? Updating your main cover photos of your social media accounts to reflect the holiday season is simple and effective. The change doesn’t need to be huge. If your brand is known for a specific logo, maybe all you need to do is add a Santa hat to get the effect across!

Now that people can easily see that your brand is full of holiday cheer, it’s time to own up to that spirit! Try launching a holiday event that coincides with the season. Have special sales for 12 days in honor of the 12 days of Christmas or kick off the season with a holiday event. This is the time of year when many people throw parties, so make your brand the host of its own event! This can help get people excited about your brand and its holiday offerings.

The best way to show off your Christmas spirit is by channeling your inner Santa. This means being the arbiter of good cheer. Show that you’re in the spirit of giving by donating money to charities for every dollar spent on your brand or by establishing a gift drive. You can even try to make peoples’ wishes come true by offering prizes through your social media account. Reward people with a gift for interacting with your brand and spread it out over multiple days so that people are encouraged to keep returning to your page! Most importantly? Wish people merry Christmas and happy holidays! This is your time to show people that you care about them. Make your followers feel special by sending them some holiday wishes this season.

You’re probably starting to feel all warm and fuzzy about the holidays by just reading this. Now go out and update your social media profiles to reflect your holiday spirit!

One of the biggest issues with mobile web usage is the amount of data it consumes. Many people have to be very frugal about their data use to keep their phone bills at a minimum. This is one of the reason why mobile ad-blockers have become popular. Blocking ads reduces the amount of data used. However, Google could be throwing advertisers a bone by releasing an update to its data-saving feature in Chrome’s mobile browser. Now users will be able to save up to 70% of their data when they load an individual web page. This is possible by allowing users to choose which content is loaded. For instance, photos in a news article will not load by default. This reduction in data spend means that mobile ads will not become such a burden on mobile web users. This will help Google keep its mobile advertising edge while hopefully slowing the adoption of mobile ad-blocking tech.

Mobile ad-blocking has been a wake-up call for advertisers. Not only has iOS implemented ad-blocking software, but now several UK mobile carriers are planning on implementing their own methods for allowing users to control their ad experiences. This is not the end of mobile advertising, though. Rather, it’s a chance at a new beginning. Innovation and new ad tech will be needed to establish the importance of mobile ads, especially in the UK. It might even be possible for advertisers to work with the UK mobile carriers in an effort to find a middle ground. No matter what happens, this is a good opportunity for advertisers to re-invent themselves in the mobile space.

Did you think Google+ was dead and gone? Surprise! Google’s social networking site is back and it’s surprisingly good! Find out how the company managed to pivot its social network into a worthy competitor

No, it’s not a zombie… it’s Google+. While most people were jumping ship from Google’s sinking social networking service, the company was busy figuring out how it could reinvent itself. The new version of Google+ is surprisingly strong and could be exactly what the company needs in order to move forward with social networking.

Who’s to thank for this reinvention? Facebook. While Google+ was desperately trying to stay afloat, Facebook was busy taking all of the positive aspects of Google+ (video integration, circles, news discovery, etc) and transforming them into basic Facebook features. The difference is that it worked for Facebook. However, Facebook managed to normalize these features in the process, which is giving Google+ a shot to become a real player now with its redesign.

A huge factor in Google+’s downfall was its forced integration of everything under Google’s umbrella. It was confining for many users. Google+ has seen the error of its ways and has chosen to spread out its services into individual components, which users can now integrate into Google+ at their own discretion. This also means that you no longer need to have a Google+ account to sign into other Google sites or apps.

The new Google+ is much faster than its predecessor and handles its social aspects in a much more valuable way. The emphasis has pivoted from friends and family to interest groups. Users identify their interests and then see posts and articles from within those “communities”. It’s a more relaxed system that’s akin to Pinterest or Reddit than to Facebook. Google+ has also made the interface far more visual in an attempt to capitalize on the growing popularity of visual content.

With the amount of money that Facebook is currently making from ads, it’s no surprise that Google has worked hard to improve its social network offering. Keep an eye on the future of Google+ to see how its advertising opportunities advance.

2015 is nearly over, which means that it’s time to make predictions about the mobile app space in 2016. Some of the biggest trends to take note of are directly related to the way that people receive and interact with mobile advertising. Geo-location will be used to create context for the mobile space, which means features and interactions that change depending on location. For instance, being inside a store will be able to trigger a user experience that is more streamlined and tailored for an in-store experience. These frictionless experiences will be enhanced with Beacon technology that will be able to serve users coupons and ads when they’re nearby particular stores. This is perfect for a mall shopping experience. Advertisers will also be able to use this information to more accurately target specific audiences, rather than casting a big net and hoping for the best. This is what 2016 has in store, and it’s great news for mobile advertisers.

A big problem for brick-and-mortar retailers has been people “showrooming”, which means browsing at the retail store and then making purchases online instead. However, a growing trend is doing the exact opposite. “Webrooming” is the act of moving people from an online environment into an actual retail store for the sale. Web ads are proving to be a huge boon to this trend. However, it’s difficult for all retailers to hop on the bandwagon because it’s very tricky to measure the conversion rate between seeing an online ad and making an in-store purchase. Google introduced a “Store Visits” metric into AdWords, but only the largest of retailers can provide enough data to show statistical significance. Webrooming continues to grow as a trend and new ad-serving features that target specific moments in the real world will likely help spur this type of interaction.

Content marketing is a craft like any other. If you want to be successful then you’ll need to sharpen your skills. But which skills make the best content marketer? These are the skills you’ll need if you want to become the ultimate content marketer!

What makes a good content marketer? Sure there are ways to measure ROI and clicks, but this doesn’t paint a clear image of the person behind the campaign. Like all crafts, there are certain skills that can be honed to become a better content marketer. Here are the skill sets you need to sharpen if you want to become a professional content marketer.

The first skill you’ll need is the ability to analyze data. Collecting data is great, but knowing what to do with that information is vital for success. It’s easy to look at data over a period of time and see whether it improves or worsens. However, the trick is knowing how to evaluate that data in a way that is specific and that can enhance business. This means breaking down the numbers into meaningful subsets so that you can pinpoint issues that lead to solutions. Nowhere is this more true than with A/B testing.

A good content marketer is also a great researcher. They have to be in order to survive. Research means being able to find out who your customers are and what they want, to understand your own product, and to solve problems independently. Having the ability to do this on your own will put your light years ahead of other content marketers. Adaptability is another critical component. Content marketing is always changing and if you’re not capable of adjusting then you won’t last long. Be flexible and knowledgeable to keep up.

If you want to go above and beyond then you need to be capable of creating your own content from the bottom up. This means being a good, strong, efficient writer as well as being able to code and design content. Writing is the most important skill in this group as it will give you the ability to pump out strong content on a consistent basis. Knowing how to code and design the final product can make you a one-man content marketing machine, but are not as essential for success.

Content marketing isn’t easy and there are no perfect guides for how to succeed. Your best bet is to hone these skills.

VR is such a new and burgeoning market that it will likely face some hurdles on the track to user adoption. One of those hurdles is normalizing the medium. In light of this, Samsung has released a standard Internet browser for the Gear VR. Users will be able to browse the web in much the same way that they currently do on a mobile phone or computer. The experience can even be controlled by simply looking at buttons or menus, which the company is referring to as “Gaze Mode”. It also has support for voice commands as well as an on-screen keyboard. 360 degree video, 3D streaming, and HTML5 video are also featured.
