Remember when we shot “new-age rock band” Weed at the car junkyard out in Boring? They were just getting their debut Deserve mastered at the time, a record that took TEN YEARS to finish.

Now that we’re finally able to share a piece of it with you, we’re so psyched to say that it’s a perfect document of the band. With all the feedback and sludgy West Coasting, this album is sounding fresh as hell.

Foxygen didn’t exactly earn all the shit-show accolades being attributed to them but they did yell and sneer at each other quite a bit. I dunno if they all sleep in the same bed or make band members walk offstage anymore, but I don’t care because this performance of “Shuggie” at Treefort Fest makes a convincing argument that they’re even more entertaining on-stage than off–and that’s saying a lot.

That kid with the helmet was the best. So down to freak out in an animal mask. Whereas most people get kinda self-aware when you hand them an animal mask and put them in front of cameras for some “Harmony Korine’s The Lion King” moment, that kid was fucking game. Born for it.

Sun Angle in Papi’s living room and an open-door policy on the fridge beers. A generous host and a house full of kids that could try out their animal feelings if the music gets right. Simba dancing in his bicycle helmet like an overcharged battery. You could almost see the sparks coming off him.
