Rumor has it that Google is working on a new version of Nexus One designed specially for the developing markets like India. The Indianised Nexus One would be a scaled down version of the phone. Although it would not be power-packed, but less features obviously mean lower prices!!!

The countries like India have shown thumps down even to the Zeus phone. And the only reason for this is the pricing. While the high-end smartphones like iPhone receive poor responses from countries like India and China, the economy smartphones like the Samsung Corby series have been more than welcomed in these countries. When it comes to selling the most necessary gadget of today, cellphone manufacturers cannot ignore big markets like India and China.

In such a situation, a scaled down and cheaper version of the Nexus One sounds like a brilliant idea. But is it really in the making? Only time will tell.

An interesting Apple patent that makes me feel – ‘wow, this is something I so so need’. Imagine having a visitor at your door when you are just 5 mins away from home? or even better, being outside your own house without the keys and waiting for your spouse to return from the market for you to get inside? Well if Apple has its way, you would (atleast some point in the future) use your mobile phone to unlock doors. And some easy extension of this technology can enable you to offer access to guests (maybe limited or temporary).

Currently being referred as the iKey, this technology would give you freedom from carrying a bunch of keys and instead allow your mobile phone to unlock all doors including your car. iKey users would simply have to enter a

pin code and wave the device over an electronic pad fitted beside a door to unlock it.

Apple’s patent is based on NFC (near field communication)  which allows electronic devices to transmit information between each other when in proximity. While the road to implementation of this technology is far, the challenge for Apple would be to get wide compatibility with other manufacturers already working on similar technology. For example some car makers are already doing away with keys and bringing in key fobs.

That time of the week when analyst predictions comes in to please us

The latest word from the analyst stable is that Apple will beat RIM in the samartphone marketshare sometime in 2011. iPhone has been a superhit ever since it was introduced in 2007 and it still remains a white horse for Apple. On the other hand Blackberry has ruled the enterprise market and its a die hard termite sticking to the business users addicted to a physical qwerty.

Trefis now predicts that Apple will settle with 11% market share in 2011 and the Blackberry will manage only

8%. Given the fact that Android would overtake iPhone in 2012 (another analyst prediction we heard sometime back); it means that Android will be the market leader in 2012?

Blackberry’s both attempts with a touchscreen have kinda bombed and failed to impact the iPhone. Whereas the iPhone is making inroads into the business market. The iPhone 4G holds the key to this prediction though …

“Apple’s done a very nice job that allows people to monetize and commercialize their intellectual property,” [Apple Insider]

However business motive behind Ballmer’s good words cannot be ruled out. Its no secret that

Google and Apple are anything but good friends that they used to be. Competing in multiple market segments with Apple, Google is now as much as a competitor for Apple as Microsoft is.

If there is one segment where Apple doesn’t compete with both Google and Microsoft, its the search engine wars. Google’s primary business and Microsoft’s latest attempt ‘Bing’ are fighting it out. It was rumored sometime back that Bing might replace Google as the default search engine on the iPhone with some money exchange between Microsoft and Apple. Ballmer’s comments might well be a lead up to a public friendship with Apple during the iPhone 4G launch!

Given the rumors of Steve Jobs being upset with Google, I won’t be surprised it this really happens.

Spotted last month in South Korea the sausage shaped iPhone stylus is now on sale in US. Given the capacitive touch screen in the iPhones / iPod touch nothing except a finger touch works on the surface. Rendering normal styluses and alternatives useless. Here arises the winter issue where you can’t use the iPhone while having your gloves on (unless you have the Dot Glove), thus making a good market for these specialized styluses that work on capacitive touchscreens.

The Sausage stylus can be ordered for $0.99 + shipping from Case Crown (remember: its not for consumption).

We have seen the iPad and iPod touch camera being discussed more than once before. While the iPod touch’s missing camera is a reason for heartbreak for a lot of Apple fans, the iPad camera rumors caught momentum after a image of the iPad midframe released by Mission Repair showing a camera hole. Add to that some magnified shots from Steve Jobs iPad keynote showing a camera hole (not a very clear image though).

Further the iPhone OS 3.2 added more fuel to fire with video calling hints spilled all over.  Now we have a new shot of the iPad midboard

from powerbookmedic that shows the camera hole again. This gives a little twist to the Mission Repair leak which was labeled a publicity stunt.

One major difference between the two is the large rectangular hole at the bottom of the iPad near the home button.  The previously released pictures show large holes on both the top and bottom, but these new pictures only show one large rectangular hole.  The holes appear to be a way to route some internal cables or securing some internal component.  If you compare these photos with the official iPad gallery, it appears the bottom may be used for housing the speaker. Israeli startup Tawkon have developed an iPhone application that tells iPhone users about the amount of radiation being emitted by the phone. While the developers defiantly are trying to cash-in on the ever increasing cellphone-radiation debate, Apple does not approve of their application.The application does not actually calculate the amount of radiation being emitted by the phone. It works on a predictive algorithm that actually predicts the amount of radiation the iPhone could be emitting at the moment. The predictions are based on the factors like the distance between your phone and the nearest cellphone tower, weather the phone is in standby or in calling mode, and even the iPhone version you own.

Apple rejected the application on the grounds that a predictive tool like this may create confusion among the iPhone users regarding the usability of the phone. The developers are continuing their petition for an AppStore approval. Outside the iPhone, the developers are also working on a similar application for Blackberry and Android.

Intel has already spilled the beans over Core i5 powered Macbook Pro and fans are eagerly waiting for the official announcement to come in. However just to push the anxiety to another level, here we now see an online store actually listing the Core i5 and Core i7 powered Macbook Pros with availability marked at April 2010.The configuration lists 8GB RAM, new multitouch trackpad and 8 hour battery life. Other options include SSD’s instead of standard HDD. However a Q is raised on the listing mentioning Nvidia 9400M chipsets, as it doens’t go with Core i5.

Apple has announced that the iPad would go on sale on April 3rd in US, will they pick the same date to announce the new Macbooks? Or is it just another online store trying to get free publicity by taking about unreleased Apple products?
