Switching Away From The iPhone
- The Jury's Verdict.

While the iPhone is one of the major contributors to the world of smart phones as we now know it, BlackBerries and Androids occupy many peoples’ purses and suitcases more and more even to the extent that the Android out-sold the iPhone in the first half of 2010.

What does this mean for customers? Well, healthy competition aside, it means that the iPhone is no longer the unchallenged leader of a new market. There are plenty of viable options out there, and everyone outside of Apple loyalists has no problem ditching the iPhone for another phone.

The only question that remains: are you one of these people?

Why Switch?

First off: why would anyone ponder a switch? The Apple iPhone 4, for example, is the latest in the series and is capable of doing just about anything any other mobile phone dos - and is capable of still doing many things better. As long as you’re staying up with the trends, your iPhone isn’t being put to shame by anything your girlfriend can pull out of her purse - unless her budget exceeds yours by a factor of about ten.

So why consider a ditch of the iPhone? Well, you don’t have to. For many people, there’s simply no reason to: familiarity with the Operating System is more than enough reason to stick to a brand that keeps delivering, year after year - the “iPhone death grip” of poor signal quality aside.

In many cases, there are plenty of reasons to stick with your iPhone, especially if you’re short on dough and don’t exactly have enough money put aside to cancel a phone service on one provider and start a new one with another provider. If you’ve been able to afford your iPhone just fine all this time, there might not be a reason to switch.

Why Not Switch?

Of course, let’s say you’re one of the unlucky few - and in this economy, maybe there aren’t just a “few” of us - who are running into financial problems and simply can’t afford to make a new commitment with their iPhone. Or you might be someone who could use the money off of a used iPhone sale enough to justify parting ways with your favorite smart phone. Unless you’re a true loyalist and die-hard iPhone enthusiast, there’s no actual chord attaching you to your gadget. Go ahead, sell it. Knock yourself out.

Others - we’ll call them the fortune others - might simply have come to the end of their iPhone Plan and have grown interested in other smart phones. This is perfectly fine, as well, as long as you can justify whatever new investment you’re making. Remember: even though we like to consider only the upfront cost of a phone, the true cost of the phone (and its service) depends on how much money you’re being charged every month. There’s more at play here than simply growing sick of a phone you’ve had in your pocket for too long.

Should You Leave?

Unless you find that the iPhone’s price-to-quality ratio simply gets too high for your taste, there’s no reason to give up your iPhone for something else unless you find something that really motivates you. The desire to have extra cash. Strong interest in another brand. Something. If that strong motivator is not there, then guess what? You’re fixing something that isn’t broken in your life, and we can think of much more worthwhile things to do with your time than to start browsing other smart phone web sites.

Ultimately, the choice is up to you, your wallet, and how much importance you place on brand.

Should You Upgrade Your iPhone Every Year?

If you like to stay up on the latest iPhone news, then you know that the iPhone 4 has already been released for quite a while now and - while not without its bugs - it does seem to be a major leap forward in a number of ways.

The hardware is improved; stainless steel and glass help highlight a 24% thinner body over the iPhone 3GS.

New apps, including a new email application, allow a more intuitive computer-like experience when you’re browsing the iPhone. In many ways, it can really be worth the investment.

But what if you already owned a 3GS?

Heck, what if you've already bought the iPhone 3GS and you’re not sure that the improvements are really worth investing more and more money in every year? Then you’re probably not alone; some people simply don’t have the money to keep upgrading their smart phones and, even if you stay on your contract, that doesn’t mean every new release of the iPhone can’t burn a hole in your pocket.

First, let’s consider why you might - like many other people - purchase a new iPhone as soon as it comes out. What are the advantages to owning the latest iPhones?

The latest iPhone features, of course. In the case of the iPhone 4, new features include the aforementioned hardware improvements not to mention new apps like an Ebook reader and better functions. Having an iPhone 4 in many cases simply means that you have a better experience than you did before. If you’re constantly looking for better technology because you lead a mobile lifestyle, you can really find some serious advantages in staying current.

Convenience. The newest iPhone features always work on making things simpler and more convenient, and if you really hate to waste time doing something on your laptop that you could otherwise do on your iPhone if your iPhone had better features, then you might want to consider the convenience factor as being a category in and of itself.

But what about the disadvantages?

Money. Paying for a new iPhone every years means...you’re paying for a new iPhone every year. What’s more, those old iPhones you sell don’t exactly appreciate in value when a new version becomes available. What’s an advantage for the people buying up the iPhone 3GS is not exactly an advantage for you if you’re looking to sell.

Familiarity. Some people don’t use their mobile phone enough to justify spending a lot of money on something they’re not familiar with - they’d rather not re-train themselves every time Apple decides it’s time to be re-trained. Enjoying an older gadget doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of the loop; it just means you’ve found something that works for you.

Of course, buying a iPhone every summer doesn’t exactly have to be a make-or-break experience. There are a number of things you can do in order to offset the expense.

For example, you could always save your money each year, putting aside loose change (okay, it’s not a lot, but it helps) and stray dollar bills that will eventually go to offset the new investment you plan on making with each new version of the iPhone.

What’s more: selling your old iPhone on a site like eBay.com will help generate some of the cash that can go toward a new iPhone. You can’t expect to recoup all of your investment from the previous year - iPhones will go down in price, similar to cars - but you can at least feel good about offsetting more of the iPhone’s price tag. Besides, there are legions of low-budget Apple iPhone fans who appreciate exactly what you’re doing every year.

Exploring the Features of the new iPhone 4

A new iPhone doesn’t come out with any shortage of buzz, and 2010’s launch of the iPhone 4 has proven to be no different.

While many people are simply focusing on the iPhone 4’s issues, as the The Australian might be, there’s a lot to the iPhone 4 that makes you wonder how well it would have been received if not for the PR nightmare resulting from the iPhone “death grip.”

So let’s move on from that grip and explore exactly what separates the latest iPhone incarnation from its ancestors.

Multi-tasking

For you non-stop multi-taskers who are by definition almost always up to something, the iPhone 4 finally makes accommodations for you by allowing for multi-tasking features you couldn’t find in previous iPhone products. As Gizmodo notes, double-tapping on your home icon will allow you to check out all of your currently-running applications and easily switch from one to the other, much like a computer desktop works. It’s a great feature for people who have difficulty focusing one just one interesting feature at a time.

We should also note that easy App switching allows you to “freeze” what you were doing on one App while you multi-task over to another App; this is kind of like running TiVo on your LCD TV and pausing one channel while skipping past the commercials on another channel. Definitely a great feature for people who constantly pick up their iPhones and set them back down throughout the day.

For many people, the multi-tasking feature would have been reason enough to justify a new generation of iPhones, but there are a number of other new functions you can multi-task between, as well.

The Body

You don’t think of the iPhone as having a body, but the some changes in the iPhone 4 brought the actual hardware of the iPhone to the forefront: a thinner, stainless steel-with-glass-screen body feels nice in your hands.

The body is 24% thinner than the 3GS - the previous incarnation of the iPhone - which allows for easier storage and a more comfortable feeling in your pocket for when you’re on the go.

New Apps

A lot of people appreciate the differences in the actual, comes-with-the-iPhone applications that you can check out as soon as you purchase your own. A new mail application is superior to old versions, which is especially important to those of you who have been frustrated with the essentially unchanging email Apps that date back to 2007 - a lifetime in the world of smart phones. New features such as email threading allow for a more intuitive experience and actually replicate what you’re used to when you use email on your computer.

A new App that you might recognize if you’ve used an iPad is the iBooks reader App, an application that allows you to download Ebooks and read them on the go. This blurs the line between an iPhone and an iPad just a little more and helps iPhone loyalists who never switched to the iPad to gloat just a little bit.

Bluetooth Keyboard Support

Another reason the iPhone is becoming similar to an iPad: you can bluetooth a keyboard to your iPhone in order to have a similar typing experience - heck, basically the same typing experience - that you’re used to on your usual laptop. Pair this with the new email App and you’ll have no problem conducting a lot of business on your iPhone.

While the iPhone 4 is not without a few flaws, for many people, these new functions are more than enough to justify the investment they made in their smart phone technology. In the world of smart phones, new isn’t always better. But frequently, as in the case of the iPhone 4’s improvements, it is.

The iPhone 4 is already the fourth generation of the always-popular iPhone, one of the top smart phones available on the market today. Competing with contenders like the Droid and the BlackBerry, Apple is always looking for new ways to innovate, invent, and ultimately, separate itself from the crowd.

So why can’t they even figure out something as simple as allowing you to hold it whichever way you please? As it turns out, they can. But we'll get to that.

Before talk about why some people struggle to correctly hold an iPhone 4 - which we are affectionately dubbing the iPhone grip - it will help to understand exactly why on earth people think an iPhone in this new decade of the 2010s gets better reception if you hold it a certain way.

It’s Not All Bad

Admittedly, not everything went wrong with the Apple iPhone 4 when it was launched in just the past few months. As The Australian will tell you, “the new iPhone 4 is very responsive and has the best touch screen in the business.” In other words, there was a lot to like about the iPhone 4 when it was first launched. Other features, like an HD-capable video camera, helped generate some buzz and excitement when the latest iPhone incarnation was unveiled in America.

Of course, that’s exactly what people have come to expect from the iPhone, the smart phone that launched a series of imitators who, in recent years, have become something more closely resembling serious competitors. Even so, the iPhone seems to dominate the market and the buzz-o-meter with solid consistency.

Until that PR nightmare known as the iPhone “death” grip. But how serious was the issue really?

How to Hold an iPhone in 2010

Says The Australian: “Hold an iPhone 4 with what most would regard as a normal grip and watch one or two bars fall away from the network reception meter at the top left of the phone's screen.” Yes, like a radio.

One can see how something known as an iPhone “death grip” could represent a potential public relations nightmare, but the REM cycle doesn’t end there. As you’ll see at Engadget, the problem was made worse when Apple chief Steve Jobs responded to an email about the death grip by saying, quite simply, “Just avoid holding it in that way.”

It’s not exactly an encouraging reply from one of the world’s top innovators, and recalls Henry Ford when he said that the customer can have whatsoever color he likes, just so long as that color is black.

But are things as they seem? Steve Fenech notes that his iPhone 4 works fine, with no big problems in terms of reception. Said Fenech of the antennae issue: "I've been using Apple's new iPhone 4, which went on sale in Australia today, for nearly a week and I can say it's not an issue at all."

So what is the “iPhone grip”? In contrast to the iPhone death grip - the grip that causes you to lose reception - some people have been sharing the correct iPhone holding technique in order to maintain the quality of the rest of the iPhone’s enthralling features without losing any reception. A recent Google search of “how to hold an iphone” yielded almost 100,000,000 million results.

You don't have to become part of the crowd that looks for answers before you find out if the iPhone 4 really works for you.

Conclusions

There do indeed seem to be some problems with the way iPhone 4 units are functioning when it comes to reception, but as it turns out, many of the problems are simply overblown. Make sure that you understand the full context of exactly what's going on with the iPhone "death grip" before you buy one of your own - or before you completely rule out the purchase.

iPhone 4 - Australian Release Date
& Antenna Issues

Australian iPhone fans eager to get their hands on the new iPhone 4 will be happy to know that it'll be available from July 30th.

Macword Australia reported this news as stated by Steve Jobs at the recent press conference held to address the iPhone 4's Antenna & dropping bars issue.

Whilst we have no definitive dates as to when hardcore Apple fans can line up outside of Apple Stores around Australia, it looks like the wait is almost over. We have yet to get confirmed pricing, but from all reports we have studied it looks like the pricing will be the same as current models.

The line up will include a 8GB version of the iPhone 3GS, and both the 16GB & 32GB models will be iPhone 4, powered by the new A4 Processor.

iPhone 4 - What's New?

For those who haven't heard the news about the iPhone 4, you'll be surprised to know the new version of the iPhone is a very appealing and substantial upgrade. Recently we detailed the new features of the iPhone 4, highlighting the key points of upgrade. For most people, they'll benefit from the Facetime forward facing camera, which allows video conferencing with anyone else using a iPhone 4.

Whilst this has been done many, many times in the past, and is a features already available on other smartphones, the broad appeal of this feature coupled with the large consumer base of iPhone users will open up a new world of video conferencing as we've not seen it before. Apple have said that the Facetime software protocol is written in open source language, so hopefully we'll have cross connectivity compatibility between other pre-existing smartphones.

The other big feature in the new iPhone 4 is it's screen resolution. It's now double what it used to be, which is impressive to say the least. This reduction in pixel size allows a much clearer screen with less pixelation, and Apple have aptly dubbed it the 'Retina Display'. Sounds great to us. Hard to tell exactly how much an improvement it is, but all reports conclude it's a beautiful display worth upgrading for.

The iPhone 4 Antenna & Dropping Bars Issue

Many reports have surfaced, along with supporting user videos, showing how the iPhone 4 can experience 'signal loss' when it's held a certain way. Initially Apple brushed this issue aside, with Jobs claiming that users should just 'avoid holding it this way''. However, users created a social media uproar and Apple had no choice to respond, which you can watch in the videos below. Interestingly, an Apple Insider has claimed Jobs knew about the Antenna Issues a year ago.

To help users with the issue, ALL iPhone 4 units will come with a FREE BUMPER at place of purchase. If you have already bought a iPhone 4, then you are entitled to a Free Bumper from your local Apple Store.

How to Solve Any Argument Using Your iPhone

Okay, so maybe you won't be able to solve every argument you have with your iPhone, but if you find yourself having a debate with friends about some indisputable historical fact, guess what? You might be able to settle the argument then and there!

That's just one of the perks of having what is essentially a portable computer like the iPhone with you whenever you go out to dinner or simply hang around your home or apartment.

The key to using your iPhone to solve an argument is using it as a way to look up the facts, not necessarily to find opinions that match your own. This means you'll want to use the iPhone - and the virtually unlimited resources its Internet access makes available to you - to supplement your points, not to make them.

With that in mind, let's take a look at a few strategies that can help you solve an argument using the iPhone.

Fact-based and trivial arguments

If your argument is over who played the character of Norm on the TV show "Cheers," then it won't take you very long to bring out your iPhone and look up the answer to your simple question. You may even find that many people have asked the same question of popular search engines like Google, and you will probably end up with an answer very quickly. This kind of argument is so easy to solve with your iPhone that it's almost not worth arguing - all it requires is a quick look-up.

But sometimes the answers to fact-based debates might not be so "mainstream." For instance, you might find yourself arguing about a scientific principle, or a little-known fact from a historical figure's biography that is very hard to verify. When this is the case, you'll want to dig even deeper. Apps might even be available to help you. A program like Articles for iPhone might be able to help point you in the direction of the proper source for your assertions.

When you're having a trivial, fact-based argument, remember that it's as easy to prove yourself wrong as it is to prove yourself right. It may be better to look up the answer to a question before you bring it up, simply to avoid looking like a doofus. If you use technology the right way, you can always avoid being wrong in these types of arguments.

Finer points and philosophical debates

Sometimes, your arguments will go a little deeper beyond the trivial and enter the world where opinion and fact both come in to play. If you're having a philosophical debate, for example, about morality, then you will want to use your iPhone as a source. You can't enter in a deep, philosophical question into your iPhone and expect a solid answer.

The nature of philosophical debates means that you'll generally only be able to find definitive answers to smaller questions: for instance, while you will have difficulty arguing about "I think therefore I am," you will at least be able to find the facts about the life of René Descartes.

But there are other difficult arguments aside from philosophical debates. If you find yourself having a debate that is focused on your opinions - such as the merits of a political figure - then you'll also want to be sure to use your iPhone wisely. Sometimes, this may simply mean to use it sparingly.

The iPhone can make for a great encyclopedic source of knowledge, but not every debate is simply about knowledge. If you want to use your iPhone to help you solve arguments, make sure that you have an idea of the question before you seek out the answer.

Apple have redesigned the entire operating system, bringing in the much demanded & welcomed ability to Multitask, and introduced a bunch of small, somewhat unexpected design improvements.

1. Upgraded Display

Dubbed the 'Retina Display', the new iPhone display has a staggering 960 x 640 resolution, equating to a massive 326 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). This is grand upgrade and surprisingly comes close to the resolution of Apple's new iPad tablet. This gives App designers a whole lot more screen 'real estate' to work with, and existing applications will simply double in resolution & work as they have before on the new high resolution screen.

2. Improved Performance

The new iPhone 4 has a much faster CPU inside - Apple's A4 Processor, also used in the iPad. The Li-Ion Battery has been upgraded, and together with the lower CPU Power consumption, this has resulted in a 40% battery life improvement. Up to 300 Hours standby time.

3. Video Conferencing via Forward Facing Camera.

Video Conferencing is here. New adopters of the iPhone 4, will be staring down the barrel of a discreet 640x480 camera. This is fantastic addition, and will connect up to other iPhone & (hopefully) iChat users. Connectivity is currently limited to Wi-Fi, Apple is in negotiations with Telco's to organize 3G connectivity, which will most likely be upgraded in a future software update. Sooner, then later we hope.

4. Rear Facing Five Megapixel Camera with LED Light & Flash.

The Camera on the rear of the iPhone has been upgraded also to five megapixels, and sitting alongside is a LED Light & Flash Unit. We can now take pictures at night. Nice. Also, the sensor is backlit, which improves low light picture quality.

5. HD Video Recording

Full motion, 30 frame per second High Definition video can now be shot from your iPhone. Quoted resolution is 720p, which we believe to equate to 1280x720. Great for catching HD videos, uploading to YouTube, and watching back on a HD LCD TV. Accompanying this is a iPhone version of 'iMovie', available soon in the App Store.

6. Complete Software Update Including Multi-Tasking

Apple have listened & finally brought us what we needed a long time ago - Multi-Tasking. Built-in to the new iOS operating system, applications can now share memory space & work alongside each other in real time. A whole range of OS improvements have been made, including folders for Apps, improvements to Email & the introduction of iBooks for the iPhone.

7. Design Improvements

The case of the new iPhone 4 is much more solid and durable, not to mention stylish. Built from glass & reinforced steel, it's said to withstand scratches, dents & accidents much better the the previous designs. Also, some unexpected extras here. A secondary microphone providing noise cancellation abilities. A 3-Axis Gyroscope is now inside, which adds a whole new dimension to gaming & applications.

Release Dates:

If you're still one of the last few holdouts who doesn't see the benefits to owning a smart phone like the iPhone, it's probably time you examine what one can really do for you.

You might be skeptical about the functions it offers, and whether or not an object as small as an iPhone can really, in some cases, replace your office.

But when you really dig in and learn the different functions of the iPhone, you may just be a little surprised at how many office habits you don't have to abandon with it. What's more: you can finally achieve that mobility you've always wanted! Here are ten office habits you won't have to ditch with an iPhone:

1. You Shall Conference Call. Having a conference call with an iPhone is not difficult at all - if you're the kind of person who likes to bring in team members on phone calls, you'll be able to do the exact same thing with an iPhone. It might take a little bit of extra work to round up the appropriate employees, but you'll be able to enjoy conference calls as well as if you were back in the office.

2. Be Plentiful With The Muse. If you enjoy separating yourself from your work environment with some smooth jazz - or whatever your favorite musical genre is - you don't have to ditch the sound quality with an iPhone. You can easily hook up a pair of quality headphones to your smart phone and be able to hear the high-quality sound you need; what's more, it's easy to find the songs you like on iTunes.

3. Honor Your Calender Sync. Yes, you can find these tips at the iPhone website as well: syncing calendars is an easy way to stay on top of your schedule even if your assistant is back home at the office and you're out traveling. You don't have to be traveling to enjoy this feature - you simply need to keep your iPhone at home in order to check your schedule for the next day.

4. The Web Is Your One True God. That's right: you don't need to stay stuck on the office computer all day because it's the only place you have Internet: your iPhone can easily give you access to the web from just about anywhere you need to go. This is great if you need to check your work email but don't have immediate access to a computer at home or while traveling.

5. Love Thy Business Colleges. If you have an extensive contacts list after years of being in business, you won't need to completely update your old system in favor of the iPhone's - unless you've still managed to keep the contacts list on paper as opposed to electronic storage.

6. Call Thy Business Colleges. We got so caught up in the advanced functions that we forget: you can call your clients and high-paying customers on your iPhone with no trouble whatsoever - and you'll find it easier to dig through your old "electronic Rolodex" on the iPhone.

7. You Shall Email. Email is essential to getting things done these days, and the iPhone makes it easy to plug in your work email with the simple interaction of the iPhone. Essentially, you'll only have to click a few buttons to access your email each time.

8. You Shall Remember. It's easy to set an iPhone reminder for important tasks - the more you carry your iPhone with you, the more likely you are to be notified at the exact right time.

9. Prepare For Divine Inspiration. You don't have to be near a pen and paper to jot down a quick idea that you had at a restaurant - you just need your iPhone handy.

10. On The Seventh Day, You Shall Party. If you have some occasional fun at the office, you can do the same with your iPhone. Did we forget to mention that?

Five Tips for Working from Your iPhone

When the prime minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, was stranded in New York City during the Iceland ash cloud that covered much of Europe, he made headlines by "running his country" through his iPad.

Although it's an amusing fact, it does make it apparent just how much people are able to get done these days even when they're on a different continent by using Apple's smart phones and tablet gadgets.

The iPhone, though it predates the iPad, is almost perfect for doing business on the go. In addition to having the ability to call people you work with through its AT&T plan, an iPhone allows you to view, edit, and write documents and communications that you wouldn't have been able to handle on a cellular phone from the 1990's. Thank goodness we now live in the 21st century, because today's iPhone allows you to get things done. Here's five tips for doing it right.

Tip #1: Use the phone feature when you can.

Since typing on the iPhone is certainly possible, but can often be cumbersome, and you don't want to leave a massive electronic trail waiting for you back at the office, try to use the phone feature on your iPhone as much as possible. Talking on the phone to your colleagues can have the immediacy of a live meeting even if you're in different cities, which will be much like working your regular hours. Be sure that you don't purposefully waste time on the phone, however, and be sure to set call objectives so that you know when to say "Okay, I'd better be going now."

Tip #2: Keep the inbox as clear as possible.

Since it's so easy to use your iPhone to manage your email inbox, it's a good idea to use it well. In other words, you want to make sure that the email doesn't pile up on you. If you have to, take notes from several emails and write them into a different program - like, say, iPhone's note program - and delete the emails. If emails need to be kept, there's no harm in keeping them in your inbox, but don't let the unnecessary emails clutter your work. Be sure that each email you keep has a specific reason for being kept. When there's less to review, it will feel much easier to handle your workload.

Tip #3: Set some time and space apart for working.

Since working on your iPhone means you're also working on the same gadget you use for fun, you'll have to find some way to separate your work time from your relaxation time. This means you'll want to be sure to set aside some time and space for working on your iPhone. Go somewhere else when you need to work on your iPhone - this will help you avoid the temptation of goofing off when you're on your own.

Tip #4: Don't let the iPhone be the end-all be-all.

Okay, sometimes it's great to have the iPhone be your connection to your office. But sometimes, when the work is hard enough, you won't want to rely solely on your iPhone. Heck, you never know when you'll run out of battery without a charger in sight. Just make sure that your iPhone's functions are not the key to your business empire and you'll be fine.

Tip #5: Work to keep fun and work separate.

In the spirit of Tip #3, remember that it's important to separate your business life and your personal life, even when it comes to the iPhone. Designate a time of day in which you no longer allow yourself to "check your work email," or do work-related activities with your iPhone. This will help you to recharge your batteries.

How and When to Download Movies to Your iPhone

The iPhone's wide range of functions make it one of the great smart phones to own, while the easy-to-use interface brings a lot of advanced technology to a wide, mass audience. Yet there are still a lot of people today that aren't willing to use their iPhones to watch movies, preferring to use a service like Netflix instead - or even not watch movies at all. Why? Watching movies on your iPhone can be inexpensive, simple, and - after you read this article - quite easy to do.

If you're new to the iPhone and you need a little "boost" to point you in the direction of passing the time with a nice movie on your iPhone, this article will provid eexactly that. But in order to tackle this, we'll need to explore the two key questions: how and why.

How: It's really not that difficult

Downloading a movie to your iPhone is really easy once you get the hang of it. If you've come across these instructions, there's a good chance you consider yourself an Apple "newbie," so with that in mind, let's make sure to address the basics.

Before you download a program like Download Movies On iPhone (that link is just for reference - we want you to follow our instructions), consider what you already have available on your iPhone. Even a newbie can identify the "iTunes" button on the main screen. This iTunes program, once opened, will allow you to download all sorts of entertainment, from music to episodes of television shows. Obviously, you don't want to download music or TV shows right now; but if you do, we won't stop you. If you're still looking for that particular movie, enter the "iTunes Store" and be sure to enter in a search for the title of your film.

It may take a bit of scrolling around before you find the title that you were looking for, but once you do, be sure to click over to it and click the purchase or buy now button in order to download the movie to your iPhone. The money will be charged to the card on file on your Apple account, so be sure that you actually have a credit card worth using on file. Voila! Once you've handled that, you should have the movie as long as you like. Feel free to keep it stored on your iPhone for a rainy - or boring - day.

Why: Should you really want to watch a movie on the iPhone?

For movie purists, watching a movie on a gadget as small as the iPhone simply won't do. Many people prefer watching movies at the local theater and even have qualms about watching "full-screen" versions on DVD. But even if you're a movie purist, there's a chance you'll enjoy watching a movie on your iPhone, especially if you need a way to pass the time.

There are also other options available. Downloading a movie on your iPhone doesn't necessarily mean that's where you have to watch it.

If you're interested in watching a lot of movies on your mobile gadget, you may also want to consider purchasing an iPad rather than an iPhone - the iPad's larger screen makes it a natural for watching television shows and movies. Even so, there's no reason you can't spend a few bucks to enjoy a nice movie when you're in the backseat of a car that will be driving all day.

With each film being relatively inexpensive, you may also want to avoid the temptation to get hooked on downloading movies! Just download a few select ones that you know you'll enjoy - or that you're really excited about watching - and you'll have something to do every time you grab your iPhone.
