A new tool has been announced Semi-Restore which should come as a huge relief to many jailbreakers. We've all been there, we jailbreak our devices, load them up with all the best jailbreak tweaks and apps only to be stuck with a sluggish iOS. The answer to this problem is to restore and only install the absolute necessities, but what do you do when the current iOS is not jailbreakable and your device cannot be restored without installing an unjailbreakable firmware?

Enter Semi-Restore, a tool which bills itself as a partial restore of your current firmware. This is a quick and easy way to wipe your phone clean without doing a full restore(which would require you to install the latest firmware). This would be great for those who are selling their devices and want to keep the resale value of having a jailbreakable firmware.

However, since this is only a semi-restore, it will not replace any of the core iOS system files, so if your firmware is corrupted, chances are this is not going to help. But if you want to get your device running at max speed and still be able to jailbreak, this might just be the tool for you.

Semi-Restore is currently in the beta testing phase, we will let you know more info as it comes!

Now that iOS 6.1.3 has been released to the public, the days of the evasi0n jailbreak are over. After 6 weeks and 2 successive incremental updates, Apple has finally patched the exploits used in the evasi0n jailbreak. For those with iPhone4 or lower with your SHSH blobs saved, you have nothing to worry about. However for users with an A5 or higher processor, there is no way to downgrade back to 6.1.2 now that 6.1.3 is out and the signing window has closed.

Because of this, it is extremely important that you are cautious if you wish to remain jailbroken. If anything corrupts your firmware, you will be forced to restore to 6.1.3 and be unable to jailbreak until a new exploit is found which likely would not be used until at least iOS 7. Avoid installing tweaks/themes/apps that you are not sure are compatible with your device/firmware.

Luckily, there is a pretty solid safeguard available to help protect against this. If you have MobileSubstrate installed, you will be able to reboot your device into safe-mode by holding the power up button while rebooting. This will allow you to remove the offending tweak from Cydia and reboot to your normal springboard. MobileSubstrate is free and comes with SBSettings. This method will not work for every problem though, you can still delete or alter the wrong file that will cause your device to not even be able to boot into safe-mode and you will then be stuck with restoring 6.1.3

Hope this helps!

Amazingly, the petition garnered well over the necessary amount, 114,000+ and recently we got our response. The response is a good one for people who believe in consumer choice and competition. The White House has made a statement that they agree that cellphone unlocking should remain legal.

How they plan on going about this issue is yet to be determined, but the response ensures that action will be taken.

The Obama Administration would support a range of approaches to addressing this issue, including narrow legislative fixes in the telecommunications space that make it clear: neither criminal law nor technological locks should prevent consumers from switching carriers when they are no longer bound by a service agreement or other obligation.

If you would like to read the response in it's entirety, you can take a look at the petition here.

In order to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2, the Evad3rs have released Evasi0n 1.4 to jailbreak devices on the new 6.1.2 firmware.

DOWNLOAD:
Evasi0n 1.4 - Win
Evasi0n 1.4 - OSX
Evasion 1.4 - Linux

Step 1: Download the Evasi0n jailbreak tool above for your corresponding OS. Prepare your device by restoring a fresh 6.1 firmware if you haven't already and run a backup of your device. If you have a passcode lock, please disable it now as it may interfere with the process.

Step 2: Open Evasi0n and it should detect your device and firmware version. All you need to do is hit the "jailbreak" button to initiate the process.

Step 3: Once you have hit jailbreak, do not turn your device off, do not even touch it. Let the Evasi0n tool do it's job. It will go through a series of stages.

Step 4: Once Evasi0n has done it's thing, you will get this screen which tells you to tap an icon that should now be on your iPhone homescreen called "jailbreak." Tap the icon once, and then let Evasi0n do it's thing again, do not tap the icon more than once.

Step 5: Evasi0n is now complete, the rest of the process should happen on the device. Your device will reboot and you will see an Evasi0n boot screen that says "cleaning up" and once your phone reboots, you will have Cydia on your homescreen! Easy huh?

Let us know how it goes for you!

If you have a 3Gs that has a newer baseband, you can install the 06.15.00 iPad baseband and then downgrade from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 using Redsn0w.

Enable it and then put a checkmark next to any apps that are not using your full screen. There is another similar app called FullForce that was developed by Ryan Petrich which will automatically detect which apps are not taking advantage of the full screen, but it costs $0.99, so if you want to use this free version, you will have to go through your apps to figure out which ones have not been updated for iPhone 5 yet.
