Until now, no software engineer has brought off to accomplish possibly the most requested breach on the iPhone, Copy and Paste functionality. Preston Monroe has built up a bookmarklet that presents the power to copy and paste inside Safari on the iPhone with amazingly a couple of restrictions. Also known as “iCopy,” this bookmarklet could copy paragraphs of text and URLs from Safari and paste the data back into Safari or into e-mail messages. iCopy could be expanded into a batch of additional groundbreaking usages of the bookmarklet model. Bookmarklets have been applied for password auto-filling, for looking at Safari-embedded YouTube content, doing a “Find on Page,” and turning Web pages into locally stored computer code. Recently there are a lot of rumors running around about the Apple iPhone and the AT&T 8525, and people want to know which is the better one. So by that, here is a breif comparison between both cellphones: The 8525 is a business handset with consumer features, while iPhone is a consumer handset with business features. They both converge, yet they end up in very different places. But which one is the better one? iPhone vs 8525? See below more details about them:

Display: iPhone has 3.5 inches vs 2.8 from the 8525;
Menu: iPhone comes with “essential features” at main display; 8525 allows selection of such for “Today” display;
Interface/entry: iPhone has touchscreen control for everything, and vertical qwerty on screen (one and only keying option) which can’t go horizontal and must go elsewhere for symbols or numbers (very inconvenient for texting/emailing) while 8525 has qwerty touchscreen (w/numbers) stylus included, slideout physical qwerty, blackberry roll/punch trackwheel, and directional button similar/common to many cell keypads;
Connectivity: both has Bluetooth 2.0 and wi-fi, together with same data network via AT&T aka Cingular;
Camera: each has 2.0 megapixel but 8525 adds video and more snapshot/shutter options;
Messaging & email: similar at first look, but iPhone has no cut/paste features;
PDF/Word/Excel: iPhone only views, while 8525 creates and edits (just not on pdf’s);
Video/Music: i via itunes (but must sync to manage); 8525 via media player or web interfaces (cellular video, mobitv, mobile xmradio, and others), and relevant to this feature is 4GB on iphone w/o expandability, then 51MB on 8525 expansion card adds 2.0GB ;
Browser: iPhone has an edge here, using the Safari which render true web vs. mobile web you get (as available) on 8525 (haven’t tried non-windows browser on 8525 yet)

Right after the update of the native app Chess, Caissa is the next chess games for the iPhone to have an update, and added a couple nice little touches. It’s now got a colorful row of buttons across the bottom of its game screen, providing quick access to some common tasks. You can Undo (unlimited number of moves back I think), Save your game, Load a saved game, Flip the board around, and get a Hint on what to do. Both Caissa and Chess have been getting frequent updates since they launched, and both are very solid games by now.

I don’t how much I’d use this one, as I think I’m more comfortable with the Photo Dial app - but this one still looks quite cool, as do any of them that work with CoverFlow. If you were looking for an iPhone app that you can download Youtube videos directly to you iPhone, MxTube is the solution. This app is a fantastic new native application for any jailbroken iPhone. If you’re one of the lucky few with a jailbroken handset and the installer app, you’ll find MxTube in the recent packages section as of last night. The app is fairly similar to the iPhone’s native YouTube video viewer with the added benefit of being able to download entire clips and save them to your phone’s memory for offline viewing. The app has a search tool that lets you hunt for videos, and each one has the option to download the higher or lower quality version in case you feel like trying to save space. Downloads can be stacked up, although in its current release, having more than one video in the download queue seems to crash it.

Google launches a new iPhone friendly revamp to its popular web based RSS reader. Users are now welcomed with a cleaner, more logically designed interface that places key navigation icons on top, for greater accessibility. It still doesn’t provide the collapsible tree view that I long for, but it does go a step further.

If you just bought an iPhone or iPod Touch and desire to watch the best DVD movies out there or any movies from your DVD library on your own device, we’ve found a free solution. There are countless programs & utilities that promise to convert and/or rip DVDs so you can use in you iPhone, but I recommend trying HandBrake, an open-source free utility for Windows, Mac, and Linux that converts your DVDs for viewing on iPods, iPhones and any other portable media players. HandBrake can’t work its magic without a decryption utility running in the background. Rumor has it that DVD43, also free (but Windows-only), works just fine for that purpose.
