Skype Brings Video Calling to iPhone and iPod Touch

Finally!!! After all those speculation the news becomes real, Skype for iPhone (iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS) now supports video call. You can make video calls over both WiFi and 3G though don’t expect a high quality video over 3G and be very mindful of your data. Video calls can be made to any iPhone, 4th generation iPod Touch, any windows or mac descktop clients and iPad (can only received videos). You cannot make video conference calls yet but I am sure that will come in the future. I’ve just tested video calls with my iPhone 4 and Mac and the quality was great. Haven’t had a chance to test video quality over 3G but don’t have high hopes. Check out the official promo video below:

It’s a Bluetooth keyboard as you can see so it’ll add some extra load to your battery life. But again, if you can justify the need for it then I don’t think that’ll a worry. Would I buy it? No, not just yet!

Apple Remote Brings AirPlay Video Streaming and Internet Radio

Apple has just released an update of its remote app which now supports AirPlay Video Streaming. This new upgrade bring a much anticipated feature along with its recently release support for the new Apple TV and the iPad. The remote app also has the feature to play radio stations from iTunes and the ability to control movies and TV shows on the computer that were rented from iTunes. Very neat and timely feature release I’d say.

If you haven’t downloaded the app yet (which is very unlikely) then download it now or upgrade it quickly if you haven’t done that. Enjoy!

iPhone a life saver

Well, we’ve heard a lot things that an iPhone can do but this one takes the cake. A Colorado film maker, a recent Haiti earthquake survivor credits his iPhone to help save his life. While he was under the rubble and got injured badly he used an iPhone medical application to apply First Aid to himself and survived for 65 hours before rescuers finally found him. Viber – Free iPhone VoIP Application

Viber – the Free iPhone VoIP app without the hassle of registration or sign up. You install the app, run and authenticate your phone with a pin code (authenticated via SMS) and start making FREE calls, simple as that. More exciting than this it that it doesn’t require the app to be running all the time, even in the background. Sounds too good to be true? Brace yourself for the exciting ride! This is something Skype has been lacking all along. You’ll have to have Skype running and signed in to be able to make or receive calls.

With Viber, a logo appears next to your contacts so you know exactly who to call in Viber. I personally don’t think it could be any simpler than this. The call quality seems to be very good, a lot of people are claiming it to be better than Skype. But I guess, that’ll depend on your data connection (WiF/3G) and speed.

But be careful before you get too excited and start using it aggressively over 3G because it is a VoIP app and it uses your data. So always keep an eye on your usage. Check out the video below and let us know your experience with Viber.

EyeTV iPhone application adds 3G streaming

As you’re aware iPhone applications are getting 3G support and the latest app to join the group is the EyeTV. If you’ve been an EyeTV user then this is a good news for you. The latest version (v3.3 available now on iTunes) of EyeTV now supports 3G, so you’re no longer locked down to only WiFi connections; you can now watch TV on the move. Exciting, ay!! Yes, may be for some because unless you’ve got a big data plan you might be in for a bit of a shock when the bill arrives. So my suggestion, use wisely .

How2Draw: drawing lessons on the iPhone

How2Draw is a new series of educational apps available at the App Store, developed by brazilian ZeroUm Digital. Its first volume, Faces, brings 8 step-by-step lessons on drawing the human face, from a small child to an elderly man. iPhone users can also use the built-in camera to instantly compare their drawing with the lesson, and spot the differences right away.

The lessons were created by brazillian artist, Fabio Yabu. His most successful work is the animated TV show “Sea Princesses”, broadcast in Australia by ABC and 7 Network.

More volumes are on the way. How2Draw: Manga is due next month, along with new features: “Even though the next versions were almost done, we decided do delay them in order wait for feedback from our users. We are also planning a simpler version, for kids.” – says Yabu.

Burst the Bubble iPhone app is a simple yet addictive game from NotOnlyButAlso that players can easily pick up and play. The idea of the game in essence is to burst as many bubbles as possible.
