yadaBlackBook ($4) is a contact list that can only be opened through voice recognition. The first time the application is opened users are prompted to provide three recordings which are then used to create a unique voice lock. Users can then add new contacts into the application or import contacts from the devices default Contacts app. yadaBlackBook also includes the ability to export contacts from its database to the Contacts app. Landleben ($1) is a children's game which allows players to experience a farm. Users can move around the farm and find various animations and sound clips by tapping on different objects. The game includes more than 50 farm sounds and allows players to track how many they have found through the use of an on-screen counter. All of the graphics in the game have been illustrated by Lee Barlage, a well known children's book illustrator. ZeusDraw Mobile ($10) is a drawing and painting program which works for anything from doodling on a photo to serious drawing. Users are provided with various input options including free hand drawing, pre-defined shapes, and images. All of these items can be resized, moved or rotated allowing users to achieve desired effects. The 2.0 update has added several new features including: undo/redo, the ability to email drawings from within the app, copy and paste support, a revised zoom tool, and additional shapes and brushes. DigitMan ($1) is based on the classic word game Hangman, but has players guessing numbers instead of words. Instead of trying to find a word players are trying to guess the other players phone number. The application also includes a lie detector, the ability to export numbers to the Contact app, and a list of pickup lines. Battery Level 3.0 ($1) is a small utility which can be used to see more detailed information on battery status. The application displays the current battery level with an image and percentage and can also determine if the battery is currently charging or not. Battery Level can also estimate how long the device should last while talking on the phone, browsing the internet, watching video, listening to music, or left in standby mode.
I really do enjoy Sony’s mp3 players and even more so now that they are lightened up on their proprietary ways. However I’m not entirely sure of their strategy to blanket the store shelves with a new player every few months. I guess it keeps their product line fresh, but it is much of the same stuff rehashed into a different case. This E series player isn’t too different from the last E series from what I can tell, but it does mention that this is the first E series with “Clear Audio” which improves the sound stage. This is found on the Sony X series and while I did find it to improve sound stage a bit I’m not sure it’s a feature worth upgrading for. But I likely will pick one of these up to see if it has a similar sound to the X series. I have been really enjoying the X-1000 lately and using it almost exclusively while I’m out and about. This E440 could be a nice alternative to the astronomically priced X series. If you are into something a bit more portable the B140 follows their familiar “stick player” formula like the B130 but with a nicer design and a "zap" feature allowing you to listen to random parts of a track. The EU press release states that these will be widely available at the end of July. Nothing is said about the US but I'm sure we will likely see them shortly after. [ Press Release via Engadget ]

I must say the ceramic while Cowon S9 looks really nice especially against the contrasting deep black screen. What also looks to be different is the finish on the back of the player. The titanium and chrome have a rubbery matte finish where as this appears to be a white glossy finish. It’s a nice change up from all the traditionally black players. Even though I have a Noreve case on my titanium S9 I would have gone with the white if it were available at the time I got mine. Its only available in Korea at the moment but we should see it appear stateside soon. Be sure to read the S9 review if you are in the market for a new player. [ Product Page via Pocketables ]

Apple has introduced a new type of sales grouping at the iTunes Store, the Digital 45 . Meant to echo the record single releases popular at the beginning of rock and roll, the format groups together two related songs together for less than their standard cost. Prices can still vary, from $1.29 to $1.98 for a pair. Separately, tracks normally range from 69 cents to $1.29. Some artists included in the initial wave of 45s include Blondie, Coldplay, Prince and the Tragically Hip. Apple promises that some Digital 45 releases may be exclusives, not duplicating content from albums or other singles.
After some delay , Team17 has released the iPhone version of Worms , its flagship strategy game. Players control a cluster of cartoon worms as they try to annihilate all other competitors. The game is turn-based, and sees players use a variety of nonsensical weapons including holy hand grenades and exploding sheep. Six different environments are present, each with randomized terrain varying from session to session. Single-player modes include one-off skirmishes, and a set of 50 challenges with unlockable items. Multiplayer matches support up to four people, each of whom is able to distinguish their worms using custom names, voices and grave markers. A current iPhone 3.0 feature is support for custom music; more is promised in the future. The game costs $5 and requires iPhone 2.2.1 firmware. Some users have complained of performance lag on devices other than the iPhone 3GS.
One of our forum members dug up some of the Bluetooth certification papers on the M1. A few days later in that same thread a leaker posted a photo of this mysterious player. From the papers we know that it will have Bluetooth and a 3.3” screen. From the photos it looks like it could be a phone with a speaker at the top and perhaps what appears to be a mic in the form of a small slot at the bottom. The papers do say it is a “Samsung MP3 Player” but it could be possible that it has extended features such some sort of VoIP application. It may also be possible that it will act like a full on phone connected to your existing phone though Bluetooth. That would be the natural progression from the P3 family since it does some really cool stuff like allowing you to dial your phone and talk from the P3. One of our moderators is in the know about this player, but keeping us in the dark bound by those pesky legal agreements, says "But there is another interesting feature, secret for the moment ;)" "...something really interesting, the first time on a recent Samsung mp3 player" [ Samsung Forum ]

They guys at Journal Du Geek have been beta testing the Samsung R1 for a bit and have posted a few photos of it comparing it to that Cowon S9 . As you can see it’s quite a bit smaller than the S9 and in turn smaller (3.4” x 1.8” x .35”) than the Samsung P3 but seems to have a lot of the same features including the same UI. The 2.6” screen comes in 400x240 pixels and will playback all the same video formats at the P3 natively without conversion: Xvid, divx, H.264, and WMV. On the audio side all the good formats are supported: WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC, and FLAC. Bluetooth will also be a feature like the P3. The firmware is still a bit rough, so once that gets ironed out we will see an official announcement soon. The 32GB version will be priced at 270 Euros- so perhaps we will see it here in the states for around $300. [ Journal Du Geek | x2 ]

The FiiO amps have really made it easy to get into headphone amps and we're seeing more and more rigs have this awesome, cheap little piece of technology as part of the setup. Forum member don527 has one such rig which paired with a Cowon S9 and a pair of Phonak Audeo PFE really provides a nice quality rig.

iSamurai Bluetooth ($1) is a two-player sword-fighting game that enables players to slash, thrust, and block each other with their iPhones. Devices are linked over a Bluetooth or Wi-fi connection before the battle begins. Players can also choose to fight against computer opponents of various difficulty levels. iSamurai uses the accelerometer to determine different sword motions and then determines if an attack is successful or blocked. An included tutorial provides information regarding the different attacks or blocks that are available. Rich Diamond ($1) requires players to collect all of the gems in each level before moving on. The game features 335 different levels, ranging from easy to challenging, and allows players to complete them in any order. The levels are not timed, allowing players to calculate their actions, and an undo feature can be used to correct mistakes. Rich Diamond also allows players to switch between an overhead perspective and a third-person perspective. Good Reader ($5) allows users to store and view documents on an iPhone or iPod touch. Files can be wirelessly moved to the handheld, or sent using the standard USB cable and a free third-party application. Good Reader is able to handle large PDF's and features a 50x zoom function for viewing small details. The application also supports Office documents, HTML files, iWork '08 or '09 documents, audio, and video. Amoebaz! ($2) is a game where players attempt to direct falling Amoebaz to the appropriate gene pools. Each of the Amoebaz is colored and players can guide them to the matching gene pool by tapping and dragging. The game also includes a high score board, along with the ability to resume from the same point after the app is paused and closed. iNotify ($1) can be used to create to-do lists that are formatted as images for the device's unlock screen.

iSamurai Bluetooth ($1) is a two-player sword-fighting game that enables players to slash, thrust, and block each other with their iPhones. Good Reader is able to handle large PDF’s and features a 50x zoom function for viewing small details. The application also supports Office documents, HTML files, iWork ‘08 or ‘09 documents, audio, and video. Amoebaz! ($2) is a game where players attempt to direct falling Amoebaz to the appropriate gene pools. Each of the Amoebaz is colored and players can guide them to the matching gene pool by tapping and dragging. The game also includes a high score board, along with the ability to resume from the same point after the app is paused and closed. iNotify ($1) can be used to create to-do lists that are formatted as images for the device’s unlock screen. When users open the application, they can enter reminders or tasks that need to be completed. The items are then formatted into a list that can be used as wallpaper.
