Leipzig/ Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, June 18, 2009 – ipoque, the leading European provider of Internet traffic management solutions, today announced a new North American distribution agreement with Canadian company Intello Technologies. After several new channel partnerships in Europe, Intello now joins the ipoque network in North America as the region’s distributor for ipoque’s PRX Traffic Manager series. The ipoque PRX Traffic Manager allows organizations to effectively monitor, shape and optimize their network applications.
“ipoque’s solutions are perfect for our portfolio. Their products are innovative, tested by independent institutes and offer the right size for every segment: the smaller devices for our special area, the hotel market, and PRX-10G Traffic Manager for carriers. The products perform extremely well and are very reliable,” says Samuel Schmidt, Intello’s Vice President of Technology.

Special Project: Internet Traffic Management in Hotels

In addition to standard distribution activities, Intello will work directly with ipoque on a special project: the two companies will focus on providing Internet traffic optimization services for the hospitality industry. Intello specializes in hotel-related high-speed Internet access (HSIA) solutions and therefore brings its expertise to the table in installing network technologies within hotel environments offering hotel guests reliable in-room Internet connections.
“My colleagues and I are often asked by hotel chains about the quality of experience we can provide to ensure business continuity for hotel guests. Discerning business travelers expect the same level of dependable connectivity they receive when working from their office locations,” Schmidt goes on to explain.
Klaus Mochalski, CEO of ipoque, adds: “With this project we will try to broaden the market for Internet traffic management solutions. We would like to prove what happens when the right kind of bandwidth management solutions are installed in hotels, the benefit this will deliver to both guests and the properties are significant, especially when considering the competitive nature of the hospitality industry and the high expectations from business-class users.”

Intello @ HITEC

Intello will exhibit their solutions including ipoque products at the HITEC Conference in Anaheim/California, June 22-25, 2009. ipoque CEO Klaus Mochalski will present a tutorial on bandwidth management within the hospitality industry, focusing on the benefits and particular installation challenges hotels face. HITEC is the world’s largest hospitality technology event and therefore the optimal starting point for the project.

Leipzig, February 18, 2009 – ipoque, the leading European provider of Internet traffic management solutions, today published its Internet Study 2008/2009 providing a unique overview about the Internet‘s current state. For the third year in a row, ipoque executives Klaus Mochalski and Hendrik Schulze conducted a comprehensive report measuring and analyzing 1.3 petabytes of Internet traffic – this is the amount of data which would go on almost 300.000 DVDs – in eight regions of the world.

The study covers the use of about 100 of the most popular Internet protocols including P2P, VoIP, media streaming, instant messaging and many more. In addition to data volume, user number statistics provide a good popularity measure. A content type analysis reveals which kind of files have been shared in the two most popular P2P networks BitTorrent and eDonkey. For the first time, the study also includes an analysis of average packet sizes of all encountered protocols.

More information...

Some of the key findings of the study are:

P2P generates most traffic in all regions

The proportion of P2P traffic has decreased

BitTorrent is still number one of all protocols, HTTP second

The proportion of eDonkey is much lower than last year

File hosting has considerably grown in popularity

Streaming is taking over P2P users for video content

Usenet, a file sharing alternative for P2P, appears in the statistics for the first time

Hendrik Schulze, CTO of ipoque and co-author of the study, is satisfied with the results: “We collected significant amounts of network data on four continents. The number of Internet service providers included in the study has increased and therefore we could improve the quality and significance of the results.“

Leipzig/ Londonderry, October 3, 2008 – ipoque (www.ipoque.com), a leading European provider of Internet traffic management solutions, today announced that it has launched U.S. operations with headquarters located in Londonderry, New Hampshire. The company also announced the appointment of Jim Peschek as Vice President of Sales, North America, to head the company’s newly opened U.S. office.

ipoque's technology allows organizations to effectively monitor, shape, optimize, limit and control bandwidth-demanding applications; these include the most critical and hard-to-detect protocols such as peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P), instant messaging (IM), Internet telephony such as Voice over IP (VoIP), tunneling and video/media streaming, as well as many legacy applications. ipoque detects applications with a combination of layer-7 deep packet inspection (DPI) and behavioral traffic analysis. Integrated quality-of-service (QoS) management allows prioritization and blocking of classified traffic. “Jim brings with him an in-depth understanding of the North American market and understands the growing need companies have to efficiently manage their ever-increasing Internet traffic loads with a simple appliance rather than using complex, expensive hardware or software,” said CEO and co-founder Klaus Mochalski of ipoque. “His previous experience working with firms supplying Internet appliances will prove to be an excellent fit for our company.”

Peschek has over 20 years of management experience in computer hardware, software and services. Previously he served as Vice President of Channels at Solutionary, a leading Managed Security Services Provider based in Omaha, NE with offices in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to that he was VP Business Development at Astaro Corporation, a $40 million vendor of Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances, where he led the North American sales team to growth in excess of 100% per year and built a reseller channel by adding over 140 partners nationwide.

The expansion into the North American market follows closely on the heels of ipoque’s launching of its entry-level PRX-20 Traffic Manager, the smallest appliance available in the Internet traffic management market. PRX-20 provides the same deep packet inspection (DPI) and bandwidth management technology as ipoque's market-proven larger systems in an appliance the size of a CD/DVD jewel case. It has a maximum throughput of 20 Mbits/s and support for up to 256 subscribers making it suitable for any small network installation at space- and power-constraint locations.

Leipzig/Brussels, September 22, 2008 – ipoque, the leading European provider of Internet traffic management solutions, today announced that its CEO Klaus Mochalski will chair a workshop about Internet piracy at the upcoming Broadband World Forum Europe 2008 to be held September 29 to October 2 in Brussels. ipoque will also exhibit its line of deep packet inspection bandwidth management products targeted for the service provider and carrier market at stand #279.

The workshop with the title ”Pirates of the Net – Challenges and Solutions for Digital Content Distribution”. will take place on September 29 from 10am to 1pm. The invited experts will present the latest developments concerning this subject from their perspectives and discuss possible solutions. Topics being covered will include the Élysée Agreement, the new anti-piracy law in France for the development and protection of creative works and cultural programs on the Internet, and the SABAM court ruling, which obligates Internet service providers in Belgium to disable the exchange of copyright-protected material over their networks. The different point of view of the content industry and RapidShare’s recipe how to save the content industry will complete the picture.
The participants are:

Jean Berbinau, Secretary General, Regulatory Authority for Technical Measures, ARMT France

Eric Nooter, CTO, Scarlet Belgium

Hendrik Schulze, CTO, ipoque

Buzzword Internet Piracy

Internet piracy is an issue for both content and service providers. Content providers suffer from lost revenue. Service providers are overwhelmed by the huge data volumes generated by P2P file sharing and one-click file hosting. The ubiquitous and free-of-charge availability of high-quality content is a major stumbling block for the launch of commercial content-distribution schemes.

The workshop will start with an overview of the contents being exchanged in today's Internet based on brand-new results from ipoque’s Internet Study 2008. This will illustrate the extent of the problem. There is an ongoing and controversial discussion about how to deal with Internet piracy. The panelists will provide different perspectives and also talk about possible solutions using commercial, technical, legal, and regulatory control mechanisms.

Klaus Mochalski expects a controversial discussion: ”Our panelists have very different perspectives on Internet piracy. This diversity of opinions is important for a lively discussion. We would like to provide a unique overview of this controversial topic.“

Interviews and Background Information

Klaus Mochalski, Hendrik Schulze and the other participants are available for interviews after the discussion. In connection with the workshop, ipoque will publish a white paper, which provides a survey of the technical possibilities of dealing with Internet piracy. It will include opinions of various industry and government experts and discuss possible solutions and their feasibility.
