J&K can see maximum utilization of hospital resources by May end

Predictive models forecast increase in cases, daily death

The predictive models that are operating based on the global COVID-19 data, predicts that the Union Territory of J&K and Ladakh are inching towards the peak of the maximum utilization of hospital resources by the end of May while, as per current projections, the daily deaths are also going to see the peak at the same time.

Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), Seattle, USA, which is operating a predictive model, states that the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are going to have an aggregated 6,878 COVID-19 deaths based on the current projection scenario by August 1, above 7000 deaths in case thing take a bad turn and little over 6000 in case the public adheres to COVID SOPs particularly usage of masks.

The peak in daily deaths in J&K and Ladakh is going to be witnessed at the beginning of June, taking into consideration the worse conditions. In terms of the current projection scenario, the model shows, the peak—way lower than what is predicted in June—in the daily death is going to be witnessed by the end of May.

As per the data, the daily deaths in J&K and Ladakh can also see their minimum peak on or around May 8 in case 95% of mask usage is observed in the public.

What is to be noted here is that the model predicts J&K and Ladakh, both the UTs are inching towards the peak where there would be the maximum utilization of the hospital beds, ICUs.

As per the model, while the jump towards the peak has already started to pick, the peak can be witnessed by the end of May.

As per another predictive model, ‘COV-IND-19 Study Group’, J&K is going to add over 23 thousand COVID-19 cases by the end of April with it forecasting the caseload of 177,586 cases on April 30.

Of Saharkhan and my oddly crushing thoughts

Saharkhan was trying hard to wake people up, and there I was, already up, or may be, I didn’t quite sleep and was waiting for him to come by, start banging his drum. I sometimes thought to peep out of my window and tell him that I was up: just to make him happy.

But I never could bring myself up for that. May be, I never wanted him to be happy, or I never wanted anyone to be happy and that too at my sight—too much to ask. I was up, I was up. He was trying hard, so let him be. Why care?

Instead of peeping out of my window and say hello to him, those sounds that reverberated into the air usually brought a smile on my face. May be, he too was happy somewhere. We decided not show our happiness to each other.

Something is not letting me sleep these days. A lot has happened lately—enough to deprive one of sound good night sleep. Some things are happening around, while some happening within; dancing, achingly.

Outside: some were ready to sleep with those who had either killed their brethrens, or had tied them on their vehicles once—not like, those, who were ready to sleep with them, or had already done so several times, were not aware of the fact that they (those they were eager to sleep with) were the culprits—they knew that well, but were at the same time ready to give their fantasies a real shot and sleep with them: sleeplessly.

The incident happened some weeks ago, all set to be forgotten, many might have already, but in my case, it is still there. It keeps on banging disturbingly, it keeps me awake. How could they? But then, why care?

Outside: people were being killed. Now they, as someone recently said, are fed up with the bullets and are now using their vehicles to kill whosoever might come in their way.

The other day, I saw a picture of a young boy, under the wheels of a vehicle—such vehicles have got another type of license too—apart from the one that is mandatory for the driver to drive the vehicle—this licence is a ‘kill’ license, they all have it. Two at a time.

The long bearded guy was ‘jeeped over’ by a vehicle with two licenses. Helplessly, he was trying to get out the vehicle, but couldn’t. Those expressions on his face are still haunting me, depriving me of some good night sleep. He survived, while the other one didn’t. He too was jeeped over, mind you! Jeeped over by a vehicle with two licenses, mind you!

The Saharkhan must have been aware of both the incidents that I mentioned, but he still got up right on time. He still managed to wake people up—except me.

He tried every night and succeeded in waking some people up, but why have I failed to toss these disturbing incidents out of my mind just to get some sleep until the Saharkhan comes. Why don’t I sleep so that the Saharkhan succeeds in waking me up too, so that one more person is added to the list of those he wakes up successfully?

Instead, I stay quiet. I let him bang around his drum. I don’t peep out of the window. I smile and believe that he too has not been able to sleep. I remain up all night, but he prefers to come out on streets with his drum; waking people up.

Why Writers Write?

Writers are prophets.

They are here with a message to convey. They are on a mission to give life to those emotions which are there, but invisible.

Writers write, because they have to convey those messages which are embedded onto them.

Writers write, because they want to express, because they have got words. Writers write, because they know that they can give life to the piece of paper, lying as if dead on the table. Writers write, because they know that their pen is filled with life called: ink.

Writers write, because they want to heal. Writers are healers, aren’t they? The words they have got are dressed up as healers. When they embrace a wound, they heal it, and heal it forever. Isn’t there too much of pain in this world, what if writers are doing their bit to eliminate some pains, somewhere, from someone’s soul? What if people are relieved of their pain, when these prophets write?

Writers dive deep and express those things that are beyond expression. Those beyond expression things are full of awe, and when they are dressed up in words, and are read, they elevate readers, to something unknown and strange. The readers do find themselves deep within those lines; much in-between the lines

Writers write, because they love to. They love to play with words. They love to create marvels out of 26 letters and a handful of punctuation marks.

Writers write to exaggerate: a positive exaggeration! They stress on a particular things, a miniscule thing, and magnify it. They turn a simple feeling or an emotion into a colossal entity. This magnifying, and this exaggeration, compels a reader to understand such small things in completely different way. A way where: nothing is unimportant and nothing is miniscule. Writers write to emphasize.

Writers write to praise; to praise beauty (there can be many other things.) They write to make readers smell a fragrance that was refreshed the air, a decade ago. They write to make readers feel a tender thing that existed a century ago. They write to make readers see a fairy that never existed. Writer, the magicians!

Writers write to be immortal. They say: if a writer falls in love with you, you can never die. Writers write to turn themselves and those whom they love, immortals. Writers write because they fear death.

A writer in love is a catastrophe. A writer in love expresses a lot, but with a tinge of love. He will praise the beauty of sky, and will link it with the face of his beloved, because he can see nothing more. A star finds a place on the face of his beloved. A moon too can be adjusted there. Twinkling of starts finds a comparison with the blinking of her eyes, and lots more. For him, she walks like a fairy. Well, he is a writer, he can do anything. And, a writer in love is surely a catastrophe. For him, there is nothing but her. No solar system, but her. No Moon, but her. No Stars, but her. No oxygen, but her. No him, but her. A pure catastrophe!

Writers write to create: a moon on earth (on her face, or her face) a flower, her lips. Writers create, and they can create anything.

Writers write to unveil the unseen; to uncover the beauty. They write to let the readers fly with their own set of imaginations.

Writers write to bestow their readers with a flight to the wondrous lands.

Writers write to be read as well! We shouldn’t miss that point, should we?

Unlce Jehangir and Kashmir

This is Kashmir, and it is known as heaven on the earth. Very well then! Uncle Jehangir termed Kashmir so, and the world picked it up. Uncle Jehangir came with his wives, with a comfort, I mean, and called Kashmir a heaven. Well, he usually came to Kashmir in summers. And those summers used to be quite joyful and that would have prompted him to term Kashmir as heaven. I don’t think he would have said so, if he would have visited Kashmir in winters, or in the summer of 2016 or the ongoing killing spree of winter, 2017, for that matter.

These winters, as we listen to our grandparents, are nothing in comparison to the winters of their time, not to speak of winters during the times of Uncle Jehangir. Those would have been harsher. No one dared to visit Kashmir, then.

Well, it is heaven, but not in winters. Shehanshah Jehangir should be made to roam around streets. No, not on his horse, but on foot. Then, I’d like to watch him naming Kashmir as the heaven.

He wouldn’t have. He wouldn’t have dared to call it Firdous, as they say. He would have packed his bags, assembled his numerous wives, and would have been seen marching towards Delhi. Frozen roads and icy winds would have made him realise that indeed: Hunooz Delhi Door Ast (Delhi is still far away)

His wives would have cursed him. Numerous wives (numerous aunties), numerous curses. There would have been no room to think that “This place is a heaven.” He would have been looking to get out of this place, as soon as possible.

This is a place where you need electricity for almost everything. If there is no electricity and that too during winters, there is only 1% chance of taking even a shower and cleaning yourself up. I am yet to see any Kalle Kharaab individual, who can take a shower in the total absence of electricity. Shehanshah Jehangir should have been brought to Kashmir in 2017, without servants, but with his numerous wives and without electricity. I’d like to see this word heaven coming out of his mouth, then. I am sure that this word would have preferred to stay indoors.

Summers used to be very joyful until 2008. This joy and merriment is now, lost in our summers. Kashmir isn’t heaven during summers, too. Had there been a Shahanshah Jehangir now, he would have called Kashmir a beautiful slaughter house. Ah! I feel bad for Uncle Jehangir, he has lost every chance to call Kashmir a heaven, even in summers! He has got nothing to give to the world now.

Summers kill and winters freeze those dead bodies. Summers spill blood and winters turn it into ice. Summers boil the blood up, and the winters boil it down. Summers bring about passion and revolution, and the winters make us crave for even a shower. Summers fill this land with slogans, and the winters choke them down (mobile phones, too needs electricity; so no sloganeering!) Summers bring about tension and fear, and the winters, too come with fear and tension (of cold water in the morning, and ‘battery about to die’ message with a cry of my mobile phone.) Summer comes with a dream of freedom. I discuss it in the morning: “I had dream where in I saw: people from that side of tunnel were applying for visa, to visit Kashmir.” And winters, too do come with a dream of: electricity, a warm tub of water in the morning and a mobile phone with a charge of 99% left to use. A dream: in summers and in winters too.

I am a Kashmiri with a diverse set of thoughts. I am passionate about everything. I aim high during summers and aim equally high during the winters. That’s me! Collars up! I desert everything during summers, I aim high. Then, I beg, I still aim high.

Uncle Jehangir, Kashmir used to be heaven during those days, and not today. Don’t try to visit Kashmir alone, or with your numerous wives. You may die of tear gas. Your wives may lose their eye sight, pellets may welcome them! Aren’t they more into sightseeing? Don’t let them visit downtown please! Pellets shower there frequently. Pepper gas may choke them! Beware, uncle Jehangir, beware!

So don’t visit us, till you too, will have to apply for a visa to visit Kashmir. You may call it heaven then, but now there is no room for that.

Listen To Them

In separation from you I turned to the moon, I turned to these stars. The sky is aware of tears. It has seen that unending stream of tears flowing down through my eyes. The moon has been my companion when you weren’t. This moon is so beautiful, just like your face but it listens to me patiently, unlike you. It just listens to me. This sky is the witness to my pain---the pain of separation. This sky has always embraced me to hear my voice---voice which has always carried gloom and agony with it. This sky has let me to shed my tears---tears which carried your reflection, whenever I shed them.

I have talked so much about you with the moon that it now knows you better than me. If I know the dark page of your existence so does this moon, this sky and these twinkling stars. These stars seem to be twinkling, you see them. They are telling you that we know you. They are talking by twinkling. They are telling you how I have suffered in your separation. They are telling you to feel that pain of that cruel separation. The moon is fading away just to tell you what the separation is and what it brings upon one which gets caught in it.

Do listen to them. Do hear what they are trying to convey. Do they tell you that how much I love you? Do they? If they do, then please tell me. I want to know if they have been able to look deep into my eyes where, only you exist: your reflection. I want to know. If they could, then why can’t you? Why not? I see you in everything. I see you everywhere: If I can why can’t you? What is hindering you?

The moon, the stars and this sky have got to tell you so many things---listen to them. Listen: they speak the language of love soaked in separation.

They speak of you.

They speak of me.

The Redness

Autumn within

Tell these leaves that unlike you I never see the spring. I never see the greenery. I never see the life. The autumn is in my veins. The destruction is within me. These colorful flowers and green leaves cannot tell you what the autumn is all about. Ask me and I will tell you the reality of autumn: the autumn creates a hole within you---a hole of separation. The autumn has destroyed me--the autumn of separation—the separation from the spring. Ask me how is it to crave for spring? Ask me what the longing for the spring is?

They saw the autumn and now they are in full bloom. But, I have lived through the autumn, the harshness and how it peels off my skin. Don’t ask these leave, ask me and I will tell you how my dry skin made sounds when crushed. Don’t tell me about the fragrance of these flowers: the fragrance of autumn has made me forget all other wonderful fragrances in the world--the fragrance of pain, harshness, agony, separation and you. The last one ‘you’ is suited to make me forget everything. Don’t tell me about the chirping of birds. The sound of my dry veins, craving for blood, made every sound meaningless.

There is autumn within me---a decades old autumn and what lies outside is the reflection of what is inside.

Autumn, autumn and autumn: with no sign of the spring to come.

MYSTERY

Who are you? A mystery which is trying to give life to all those feelings within me which are lying dead from decades? Your words carve out a different person out of me---a person who is a stranger to me---a person who is full of those emotions and feelings which I destroyed long ago. The impact of your words has been unimaginable. I am afraid of that day when our eyes will meet. I just dream of that day, I know that may not be possible. I love the way you try to keep things secret but the things between us will never remain so. As a dreamer I always dream---dream to touch you with eyes. A touch with hand will not be so gentle---let me try my eyes---dreaming to touch you with my eyes. Who cares about reality? But you can’t stop me from dreaming either; let me dream.

I am afraid of that day: the day when this mystery will unfold if front of me. I am afraid that the person full of emotions and feelings living within me will come out of this cage, what will happen then? That person has become your slave. The slave of unseen eyes, the slave of unheard voice, the slave of feathery touch which never occurred, the slave of that fragrance of your hair---fragrance which is enough to make one feel out of this world. Imagine when unseen will been seen, unheard will be heard and what never happened will happen then? Imagine, just imagine.

You never paved a way to make this dream a reality and you never will.

Be whatever you are: a mystery or a stranger but, be there. Be there if you want this blood should run through my veins. Be there if you want me to write. Be there if you want this emotionless and stone hearted fellow to make you cry. Be there and let me see your tears running down through your cheeks and meeting at the chin.

STATUE

I am trying to speak. I am trying to make these words to reach you. These words while trying to reach to their destination fall into a deep gorge in between you and me. They die by splitting into numerous unfathomable pieces. I can see the funeral of my words and I am standing here helpless---helpless to infuse life into my own words---helpless to give them a new life. But, in spite of being their God: the creator, I am failing to do so and with their funeral everything comes to an abrupt halt.

Now that I am here to write about you, I am not able to hold this pen properly. I am not able to make an image of your existence. I am no longer able to smell that fragrance of your hair---fragrance which once used to transport me to the heaven full of pleasure and delight. I am no longer able to feel that touch of your skin. I am no longer able to express that hypnotizing, mesmerizing and spellbinding effect of eyes. This deadly gorge is widening day by day and with it everything is breathing its last. Your tiptoeing no longer makes my heart to sink. The sound of your anklet no longer compels me to get up and dance. With every breath I am taking in, you are becoming a lifeless statue for me, which is not in a state to make me feel anything divine; the statue which has been carved beautifully but not having the power to turn me on. It doesn’t switches on that ‘beauty lover’ demon within me---the demon which was your slave; who danced on the sounds of your anklet. It no longer turns him on.

The beauty is lost, the passion is lost. The void is increasing. We are fading away from the scene. I am running short of paper. The pen is refusing to move on. I am your creator and here I am: destroying you; destroying you by not writing about you.

Let this void annihilate you.

YOUR FEATHERY TOUCH

This hole inside me is widening with every passing day. The darkness of this hollow is making me to become invisible. It is widening, and one day my entire existence will be annihilated by this hollowness. This hole is within me, it is eating me up with its harshness and abrasiveness and I am looking at it with a smile on my face. With a smile to hide my inability; these swollen eyes of mine are the witness to what this cruel hole is doing to me. Puffed-up, red eyes; but you can’t see that. The one who has bestowed me with this hollowness knows it very well. He knows that this hole is eating me up---destroying me. If it could have been up to me, I would have told this hole not touch my heart. Pulverize everything but done touch this heart. Don’t let your dark shadow fall upon this heart which my beloved has lightened up and this all I have. This heart once had feathery touch of my beloved and from then on it is bright---saving my existence. Destroy everything but don’t touch this heart. If you want then pull out my eyes but spare my heart. This is all I have from my beloved as he took away everything but this heart was left here. Was that deliberately done or my beloved forgot to take it away? Whatever was the reason but this is all I have. This darkness which is approaching me is all set to tear me into pieces. Scatter me everywhere. But, all I want is to spare this heart. All I want is to spare that feathery touch of my beloved---the only touch my beloved bestowed me. That touch wasn’t a physical but was something which had its effects on my heart. One day when I took out my heart, it had the imprints of my beloved. Those beautiful imprints of those fragile and minutely carved fingers; Afraid of this approaching darkness I put inside me to at least save it from this ugly darkness. But this darkness is hell bent to destroy everything. I want to cry but I am not so weak. I want to scream but who is going to listen in this world where is everyone is deaf and dumb?

I am destined to perish then let me give this heart to my beloved. It will be safe there like a pearl is in shell. I am not worried about my heart but, about those feathery imprints of my beloved on it.

Come Oh! Beloved take this heart away and let this darkness annihilate me. Let me exterminate and let you live with my heart within your heart.

First '8' Seats Reserved

“First 8 seats are reserved for ladies” The sticker bearing this message on the red background, can be seen almost in all the mini buses which are running on various routes in Srinagar city. And we can see how that message is ignored most of the times. We can say that that sticker is just like a common advertisement we find in those buses. One can see that those 8 seats which are reserved for the ladies remain occupied most of the times and the female commuters are forced to travel in an awkward position. The female commuters while travelling have to face difficulties of various forms and a person who on daily basis travels in such buses can easily understand what forms of difficulties I am talking about.

We do have our female college and school students, employees and others travelling in buses and the incidents of eve teasing in such buses have increased drastically. Now, the female folk are not even feeling secure while travelling in these mini buses. I have seen many, college and school female students preferring to reach their respective institution either by asking their parents to drop them there or by travelling that distance by foot, they usually avoid to board a bus. And those who are unable to do so are bound to board the bus and face the consequences.

Recently when I was travelling on one such route in a mini bus, to which we usually refer to as ‘TATA GAED’ , what I saw was that three guys in their mid twenties cornered a lady of almost same age group and in no time the body language of those guys went from indecency to worst, and unfortunately no one really noticed the scene. I caught them, but I couldn’t protest, keeping in view the state of my body, I was not in the state of resisting, they were all giants and they could have thrown me out of that bus in no time. I will not tell you that I just got up; slapped them and dragged them out of the bus, no, that will be an exaggeration on my part. I just looked at them with disgust and thought that it might work. Luckily that lady somehow managed to grab a nearby vacant seat and got rid of those beasts on wheels.

Many such incidents have happened and are happening and this issue is not getting any attention at all. There is an urgency to address this issue which is alarming in nature. Today it was the sister or wife of Mr. ‘A’ who faced this, tomorrow it can be your sister, your wife or mine, for that matter.

As discussed, officially there are 8 seats which are reserved for ladies in every minibus running on the city roads. Now let us ask a simple question to ourselves that is, are these 8 seats sufficient to be reserved? Can’t we have more than eight ladies travelling in the bus? What about them? Let us say that those reserved seats have been occupied by ladies, what about those who standing right there in jumble? Can’t they fall into the hands of such human beasts which have lost the ability to distinguish between the things around them?

The only solution which at this point of time is coming into mind is that of running a separate bus service for the ladies on all the major city routes initially and with the advent of time this chain of separate bus service for ladies can be extended to the various other routes of the valley.

If normally there are 10 buses playing on a particular route, we can have additional 5 buses meant for the ladies only. This concept if implemented can ease up the travel for ladies who travel on daily basis on the major routes of Srinagar city.

If seen carefully, somewhere deep down into the hearts of people they want something new which will ease up their routinely travel. This step can be a new and innovative step in this direction. For its implementation we should not wait for the government to analyze the issue and form a committee to study the issue, then after a decade they will come up with a report and again after a year they will forward some typical recommendation. No, in this way it will take a lifetime to address this alarming issue. We have the solution and its implementation should not take much time. For this, the local transport companies, which are right now in the business, should take up the job and offer such type of bus service in the city in its initial stage, which will be exclusive for ladies.

I am hopeful that the response to this exclusive service will be huge and these transport companies (if they will take up the job) will have no hesitation in expanding this ‘Female Exclusive Bus Service’ to other parts of the valley.

How To Be A Good Writer?

1# Write a lot every day. You may prefer to write in long or short sessions. Write a short paragraph or an entire page. See which works better for you.

2# Read all sorts of things, but really take the time to enjoy an old-fashioned book. Regular reading will influence your style, tastes, background, and ideas. It will also help expand your vocabulary and improve your grammar.* Determine what is good writing and what is not. Find your literary heroes. Read both historical and contemporary authors.* Read a variety of topics and styles, with a focus on styles or genres on which you wish to write.* Make good use of your local library, both as a source of a variety of reading materials and as a resource.

#3: Expand your vocabulary. Read the daily newspaper. Purchase a nice dictionary and thesaurus. Your short story will not be nearly as exciting if every character walks everywhere and says every line of dialogue. A comprehensive vocabulary can help bring your stories and poems to life, enabling you to better describe the world around you.* Be sure that you are using words correctly. Some of the alternatives listed in your thesaurus may not have the right shade of meaning or be appropriate for the level of formality. * Just write! Don't worry about editing when you've started writing. If it sounds weird and awkward the first time, don't worry about it. If it's every single sentence you write you edit the first time, you're just going to drive yourself crazy. Think of it as a creative guy and a editor guy in your head. First, let the creative guy, the writer, go crazy first with writings and ideas. Then, afterwards, let the strict, critical editor guy come out

.* If you have trouble motivating yourself to write every day, start a blog. For example, you could publish parts of a story serially online. The thought that other people might be looking for updates will inspire you to provide them.

* Read about writing. There are many good books on the subject for a variety of writing styles and genres.* Write to a particular audience. You may want to practice writing to an imaginary audience, such as people in the future, or a general audience. Having an audience in mind will help immensely in focusing your writing.

* Consider your purpose for your writing. It will help you to have focus

.* Experiment. If you normally write short fiction, try a poem now and then. Write nonfiction sometimes.

* Write letters. The Internet makes it easier than ever to find a pen pal with similar interests in another country. In addition to practicing your writing, you will very likely get a new perspective, as well.* Write when you feel inspired. Keep a notebook handy and write, write, write. At least scribble some notes for later.

* Write about what is most important to you. What bothers you? What inspires you?* Do not leave the page blank. If you do not know what to write, start writing anything at all. Even if you begin with "This is boring and I don't know what to write," you may soon find yourself writing something more.

* Make lists. Are you writing a short story? Create an outline of the events. Are you a poet? List vivid adjectives or rhyming words for your poem. Are you working on an informative piece? Use a list to narrow down your topic or organize key facts. Are you unable to find a topic? Keep a list of topic ideas. Pretend that you are writing a travel brochure, and do some research. What would make your reader want to visit Morocco?

* Writing fiction? Need some inspiration? Try writing in a colorful room. Believe it or not, it brings out your imagination!

* Don't get discouraged. Every day I hear that it's almost impossible to get published or even write a book. The truth is it's hard to write a book, but it's not impossible. Keep writing, don't listen to those people, and don't dwell on the negatives.

* Screw the publishers. If you can't get someone to publish your story that's their problem. Keep trying and soon enough you'll find someone that will give you a chance. It just might take a while.* Sometimes it helps to not try to work at all. All you have to do is write you don't have to save stuff like that for your journal. Just write.

* To be a great writer you could find out other people's desires. You could try writing about amazing experiences that you have been through and then twist it around a bit to make it a more exciting moment. One other piece of advice on how to be a great writer is that you should love it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Write what you want to write about, and you'll get it right.

* Above all, don't be afraid. Sit down and write. But write at least one or two paragraphs every day, if possible at the same hour of the day.

* Discipline will be necessary. Writing everyday at the same time regardless of how you may feel will help you to gain this discipline and the will power you need to continue and finish whatever you begin to write.

* You cannot write one week and forget the next or skip a day because you don't feel inspired. Just sit and work whether it's a short story, an article or a book.

* Don't sit on it too long or you could end up doing something else. You may simply give up and continue day dreaming the rest of your life.

* If it's an article make sure you have all the facts in front of you. Interviews, research and any background information you can find. Make sure there are no doubts in your mind as to the veracity of your facts.

* Since your mind is a complex yet marvelous computer, you will discover that as you move along in your writing, words will flow and appear from ether itself to help enhance your writing and inspiration whatever this may be.

* Sure, you need discipline but don't solely look at writing as work. It actually is fun. Don't stress yourself out. If you are not at all willing to write at a particular moment (not even a little bit) then don't write. The real things won’t flow if you're not ready for them to.

* If you want be a good writer just read a lot, write every day, and do not give up.

And They Play With Our Lives!

Is there anyone who will heed and enact??

Recently some couple of weeks before, when there was some fault with the electricity setup in the valley and also in some states of India resulting in the miseries all around and perhaps my family was the only family which suffered really a lot. With all this happening all around me and my uncle went to our city hospital (SMHS) to get our oxygen cylinders refilled or exchanged with other filled (with oxygen) cylinders, as my grandfather is an asthmatic patient so he needs the constant external oxygen supply provided by these O₂(oxygen ) cylinders throughout the day. In other words we can say that he is alive because of this external O₂provided to him acting as the source of life for him.

Usually we get our oxygen cylinders filled from the a private supplier in the city outskirts whenever needed, but on that unfortunate day when we reached there and asked them (private supplier) to get our cylinders refilled or replaced he straight away declined citing the reason that there was no electricity in the area and we couldn’t run our processing plant over here so we can’t met your requirements. As there was the acute shortage of O₂ back home and we must have to make some quick arrangements as it was the matter of life and death for my grandfather and the situation was same with the supplier so ultimately we decided to head towards the city hospital (SMHS) where we could get one cylinder possibly filled so as to manage the crisis. After reaching there we met a man there who was on duty and asked him that can we get an oxygen cylinder showing him all the prescription and all that on which it was written that the patient needs oxygen supply 24×7. But he declined citing the reason that we cannot supply oxygen cylinders to the outsiders, we pleaded him that there is the urgent need as our patient cannot live without it. We did all what we could do that time but there was no impact of all this on him visibly. But after sometime he agreed as we didn’t left the place as it was the lone source of that what we needed. He agreed to provide us with one cylinder saying that “…I am providing this on humanitarian grounds otherwise it is not permitted at all….” Indeed we should have thanked him and that’s what we did and left.

We took the life box (Oxygen cylinder) and headed towards home where my grandfather was waiting for us that they will bring the cylinders refilled and I may get some relief, unaware of the situation. As soon as we reached home we tied up the cylinder and tried to supply the available O₂. But when we tried to release the content, what we found that the oxygen cylinder which we brought from SMHS hospital after lots of pleading and all that was empty, rubbing salt to the injuries. My eyes remained wide open; our entire family was in shock. The only question which was perhaps in the minds of my family members was that “What is going to happen now? And what the hell is this?” Fortunately my another uncle was also on the hunt to get an oxygen cylinder from anywhere. As we all were sort of paralyzed, in the mean time my uncle opened the main gate with a filled oxygen cylinder in his hands, he came running all along. Alhamdulillah he has managed that from somewhere, I actually don’t know and I didn’t ask him where from you had this one. The reason was that I was in the deep shock that if he (uncle) would not have managed to get one filled cylinder on time what could have happened? My grandfather could have died and that too due to the unavailability of oxygen and that could have been a strange thing.

The reason which compelled me to narrate that entire incident was to ask that who have given them the right to play with our lives. It was the matter of life and death for an aged person, how could they be so callous and so careless?? Obviously the answer is needed that how they can do this? And who is actually responsible for this? This is the one incident which I have narrated, there could be many other incidents happening everyday in these hospitals which usually get unnoticed….

Knowledge As The Solution

“Let’s Pledge To Serve The Humanity With The Knowledge We Have...”

If we analyze that in the present times we (youths) usually procure knowledge or the technical knowledge of a particular field so as to be proficient and the professionals, be it the IT sector or any scientific field. The antecedent to be the masters in that particular field remains only just to earn money and to have the power & hence no one tries to use his skills, professional techniques to serve the humanity as the whole with his/her adequacy, but in lieu of channelizing our potential in proper way and to serve the humanity what we do is just making it in our mind that we just want to have the sway and the money.

We can say that the young generation is trying to have more materialistic approach rather than having the realistic one. We should make it into the mind that we should try to serve our people in every possible way. As Allah (SWT) has blessed us with the knowledge, we should give our cent percent in channelizing that knowledge to serve the humanity in every possible way we can. As Allah (SWT) will enquire us on the Day of Judgment that I had blessed you with the knowledge on the earth, did you ever tried to help your society with that blessed knowledge?

Let’s take the case of scientific field, we acquire the knowledge of it but we never use it to solve, simplify our day to day tasks. We just read the heaps to books thoroughly but the implementation of these theories, hypothesis is nowhere in the real life. We never ever try to find out the solution of the problems which our farmers face in the fields. Our farmer still uses sickle in his paddy fields which often causes severe hand injuries. Our farmer still applies that black, sticky, semi solid paste obtained by burning the wood, known as “Kellam” in Kashmiri on his legs to elude allergy caused by that contaminated water of the paddy fields. Till date no one tried to come out with the solution for this problem faced by the farmers seasonally.

We shouldn’t expect any foreigner to come for our rescue by providing us the solution of that very problem. It is we who are suffering and we have to come up with the solution as we have the knowledge but the reason is that we never tried to use it as the tool to simplify the problems. We just annex the knowledge with the special and the only intension to crack the competitive exams (young generation) and to make our own career. No doubt we have to be very much concerned for our career but on the other hand we should also try to give appropriate output of our knowledge, as having the knowledge implies that you are expert in modification & streamlining of the things according the condition but unfortunately, we lack the ability to channelize our knowledge in that desired way and that’s the point we should excogitate on. Need of the hour is that we should develop a sense of responsibility towards the society. We should try to be demiurgic so as to use our knowledge, skills to solve the problems which our working class does face daily. We have to work out so as to make our knowledge more fecund and prolific.

If we see that the patent percentage of the valley is pretty low and we can say it is in the zero point something form, so it clearly indicates our level in the originative and creative sector. It clearly infers that we don’t come up with the new things & the applicable solutions of our problems. Some palpable questions arise here in my mind that why we just want to relay on the things which were invented by some Englishmen, German, and American? Why aren’t we ready to step ahead of them in the field of innovations? Why we are lagging behind? And what is that in which lag? These are the points upon which our academicians, and the responsible individuals should envisage and should come up with the possible medicament because we have to bring a change, we have to serve the entire humanity with the wisdom, skills & knowledge we have as without changing our approach we can’t bring that desired change at all. We don’t want to have the power in our hands, we don’t want to rule the world, we don’t want to have the heaps of money all around, but all we want is the better, prosperous and progressive society and the knowledge from every field of life being totally channelized to serve the humanity. Let’s be the part of this change, let’s make it happen.

Why Double Standards??

If I am not erroneous aren’t the laws identic for everyone?

In an abstract democratic system every citizen has been given some civic rights, be it the Right to vote, Right to propagation & practice of religion, Right to expression of thoughts, Right to speech and many other basic rights. Every democratic country in this world is bound to dispense these foundational rights to the citizens of their countries; moreover a citizen has a indubitable right to tug for acquiring these basic rights and that will be a justified fight and no one can traverse or annihilate this fight. These basic rights we can say are the preeminent building blocks of any democratic state and the society/state lacking them is not worth to be called as democratic society/state at all.

In the present times if we analyze that currently only those societies of the world are robust on ground that are in forefront in providing these basic rights to their citizens and those who are indisposed in this sphere and are depriving their citizens of these rights surely face the brute civil rebellion in most of the cases during the passage of time, the recent Arab spring is a good paradigm in front of us in which people came out on streets demanding their basal rights which were forcibly snapped from them by the rulers (dictators) of the times. The blazes of this rebellion still continues in the some countries in the Middle East and perhaps it will continue till the justice is dispensed to them and the dictators are thrown out.

Back home taking the example of J&K state here we are also enjoying the basic rights but only some conditions apply while you want to demand your right, if I am not wrong…! Just taking the example of media working in Kashmir, at the most of the times we see the journalists while covering any sort of protests (political or apolitical) especially in the valley face the thwart of state forces and hence put a big question mark on the independence of media as procreated by the state. As in any democratic state the independence of media (Azaadi-e-Sahafat) is the main building block for its existence and here in Kashmir its existence is thus in peril. Irony is that we oft came to know that the security personals have barred the journalists from performing their professional duties and most of the times lambaste them harshly. And unfortunately face no action from the concerned authorities. This is the situation only in the valley; does rest of the states of India affront this? No. why only we? Why these dual standards? Recently on Friday 17-08-2012 in Jaipur a police personal was suspended by the authorities (News item carried in “Times of India” Saturday 18-08-2012) and do you know the antecedent? The reason was that the cop has beaten a journo while he was covering a protest rally of the university students. Ok fine this is what a democratic system demands from you, proper action and timely justice. What this cop has done was totally undemocratic and unethical where the proper action against the cop was necessary, but what happens to this democratic system when it comes to dispense justice and act timely here in Kashmir? Why it dwindle to dispense the justice? As I already said that these foundational rights are the building blocks for the existence of any democratic state and the dearth of anyone among these can make this building of democracy to crumple anytime. That fold up can be in the form of rebellion against the rulers.

Many such cases are there in which guilty has not been chastised and thus the justice was not delivered. We heed exceptionally about the enquiries but on ground these enquiries bear no fruits and thus delaying the justice and it has been decorously said that “Justice delayed is Justice denied”. This saying only suits for Kashmir as in the rest of India a desirable action was being taken against the guilty and the justice was being dispensed to some extend but why not in Kashmir? Why are we being victimized? Why these dual standards?

Due to all this, there happens to have amplify a sensibility of trust defalcation in hearts and the minds of common Kashmir masses. People are averse when it comes to develop a contingence with the functioning of democratic system & that’s the natural reaction. As said “to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”, same is the situation rampant in the valley. In action the democratic system has failed to deliver and in the reaction people have fed up and perhaps have no farther expectations from the system. This reaction can also opt for a radical reaction as that of the Middle East, where people extirpated the system which failed to deliver amply.

So to prevent this building of democratic system from getting collapse there is a clamant need to dispense the apt justice from every front of the state machinery to people living in the system and let the people of the system exercise their basic fundamental rights. No one (any element of the system) should be allowed to prevent the citizens from demanding their basic rights and nobody should be permitted to quench the voices in any form which demand their rights in a proper civilized way.

These points which I have insinuated are veritably momentous for an ideal democratic system and if the system has to thrive it has to act upon these points made above and most significant thing is that there should be nothing like “Double Standards” in any democratic system as its mien make this system delicate and obnoxious to rebellions, so this menace has to end if there is any value for the democratic system in India or elsewhere in the world, because in my opinion this menace of “Double Standards” make a flourished system feeble and in longer time it transmogrify that effectual delivering system into an ineffectual one and hence the environment turns to be ‘hostilo’ & susceptible to ‘rebellion’ and thus the real meaning of the democratic system is lost in the air…..

Corruption’ Can We Tackle It?

“It is eating up the roots of our setup & it needs to be addressed…!”

Corruption is the moral & spiritual foulness or the devationalism from the ideal path. “Corruption” is the word which is in limelight nowadays especially in India and of course in the valley too. Everyone can be seen canvassing this corruption everywhere in the group discussions with the elders at home or while when you are busy in analyzing the current economical condition of India with your acquaintances or teachers. The word corruption will mount explicitly in between & it should arise because it has become the part of our system and it is worth to be discussed. Yes doubtlessly we discept it more than as it was to be but when the question ascends how to tackle it? The answer comes out to be of the negativist as “we don’t know!” The corruption and its oppugnant causatum should be the matter of concern for the every amenable subject of that very system as it is going to vitiate everyone living in that corruption infected society directly or indirectly. At present the societal analysis will clearly conceive us that this disease of corruption has sneaked deep into our system, be it the so called most pure judicial system or any other offshoot of our system, what we see is that this menace of corruption has succeeded in making a enduring place within our administration.

Taking an example of Corruption in India, it is the major issue and it is severely affecting its economy. Transparency International conducted a survey in 2005 and came out with the formidable statistics that 62% Indians had firsthand experience in paying bribes & more interestingly Transparency International in 2011 ranked India 95^th out of 178 countries in Corruption Perceptions Index.

Moreover, talking about the measures for tackling it, we have seen many rising movements which were out for the eradication of this menace totally, but failed. The recent example of such movement is the Agitation Launched by the ex-army driver turned social activist Mr. Anna Hazari. The quaesitum or we can say the objectives of this commotion were:

· Establishing strong and independent Jan-Lokpal anti-corruption legislation and enforcement.

· Asking people to vote against the parties who don’t support the strong Jan-Lokpal bill in Indian elections 2014

· Repatriating and seizing almost $350 billion to $1.4 trillion black money abroad and make it a national income.

· Electoral and judicial reforms.

No doubt the objectives of this movement were quite poignant but what was the reason that it was hijacked medially, as the team Anna decided to join the politics and blot out it (corruption). Let me make it clear here that the politics is presently the most corrupt among all and in spite of knowing this they decided to yoke with the political arena. Sometimes back at Ramlila Maidaan Mr. Hazari said that “Ye ganda kunwa hai” but what coerced them to lunge into this grubby well? On their part they concluded to be the part of this flagitious system and I deem that you cannot bring a micron of mutation in the system by becoming a part of it. Such movements have never shown any tangible sequels and got hijacked in a mid way as seen erstwhile. Furthermore the team Anna has now succumbed after their conclusion of seaming into the politics. One bloc is headed by Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and another by Mr. Anna Hazari so therefore their jurisdiction of traversing against the corruption is tapering off day by day and it is unambiguous that by espousing such policy they cannot bring the ratio of corruption a bit down & and with the passage of time we will see what will be the moira of this movement called “India Against Corruption”, I would say that they have to refashion their policies if they are veritably out-of-doors to undertake the issue of corruption, otherwise this moment will also evanesce what we call in a thin air, leaving no trace subsequently.

At this juncture if the government is really relegate in tackling the corruption as Mr. Omar Abdullah recently said that we can tackle it but we cannot extirpate it. So to take a step towards uprooting it they should take up the use of the latest technological boons to tackle the corruption on the lower levels. E-Governance can be the surpassing option to disparage the corruption not much at the higher level, but on the lower level it can prove to be fruitful in the longer term. If we will thrive in tackling this menace of the lower level then Insha’Allah the higher level corruption like scams and scandals will lurk down dramatically, but this is a long term process and it requires submissiveness and devoir.

Taking the small example of the issuance of birth and death certificates where we often see the swap of bribes (lower level corruption). We can opt for the system which will help us in registering any death or birth online any time anywhere we want. Thus, ruling out the case of tickling the palm (bribery) at that place. Another example is when we want to get the documents of our land records known as ‘Intikhab’, during the issuance of these ‘Intikhabs’ (land records) ‘Pathwaris’ demand worthwhile amount of money for this. To tackle this we can digitize entire land records and put them on the official website. Therefore one who is desired to get the respective land records can login into the website and can download the same. There are umpteen such examples where we can make use of technology to pare the percentage of lower level corruption.

Thereupon by adopting such means we can tackle the corruption on lower level. I have anatomized one thing that the lower level corruption is commensurate to the corruption at higher level, so we should start fighting from the grass root level which will eventually succor us in tackling it at higher level & will bring down its percentage dramatically.

At the individual level we should have to supervene some virtuous principles. Corruption is against the moral and ethical values; even in Islam it is verboten. We can find the statements of Prophet Muhammad PBUH in the books of hadith where the prophet (PBUH) outlawed the corruption in the society. As the beloved prophet PBUH once said;

The Messenger of Allah (SWT) said: “Allah cursed the briber (Rashi) and the bribe-taker (Murtashi)
