It is plain and simple; it is always exciting to rock up to a new race venue. After seeing some helmet cam footage of Gary Williams track on Mt Leinster just outside Bunclody at first I wasn’t completely convinced. One run later – I was convinced.

Chain Reaction Cycles iDMS2 Mt Leinster

Greg Callaghan (OC tuning/Solid Bikes) wins iDMS2 at the new Mt Leinster track. In the Elites Karl O'Sullivan takes second and Christopher McGlinchey (Team Nukeproof) third. Second fastest time of the day came from an on-fire Luke Cornforth (021 Racing) in the Youth category ! Erika McDermott (Team Moco with Biking Dirty) took the women's win and the Masters podium was Epic dominated again with Mark Tiernan on the top step. Joe Ward (Potato Bred) beat Ian McIntyre to the Veteran win on his new Norco and Stephen McCormack (OC Tuning) again won in Juniors and Jack Crowley (Weldon) won the Juveniles again as he had @iDMS1

You can be riding a Nukeproof Scalp downhill bike at the second round of the Chain Reaction Cycles iDMS.

Title sponsors Chain Reaction have kindly lent us two of these World Cup standard downhill bikes; for each round of the series. Before every round we will be having a different competition to decide who gets to ride the machines at the next round. For round 2 at the excellent new Mt Leinster track all you have to do it go across to our Facebook page and tell us in no more than 30 words why it should be you!

CRC IDMS ROUND 1 REPORT

It was only this morning when it struck me how truly blessed the iDMS Crew were this weekend, as usual at about 8.30 on weekdays on RTE 2FM ‘’AA’’s Road of the day is announced by Hector. With no coincidence today’s road of the day was the road between Warrenpoint and Rostrevor which looks over the beautiful Carlingford Lough. This weekend it was made even more appealing to the eyes by nothing but blistering sunshine pretty much all weekend.

Irish Winter Series Round 2 Report

Round 2 of the Winter Series brought us back to Bigwood. Mother Nature blessed us this time round with no rain of a substantial sort. The track was the perfect balance between wet and dry just a bit greasy in spots. Glyn O Brien had been up a few times prior to the race with shovel s and sticks moving dirt to add new features to the track and make for some variety compared to last week.

Last weekend the famous Winter Series made its return after its sad absence in 2011. Originally planned for Moneyscalp Woods which could almost be described as the home of the Winter Series at this stage but due to complications we ended up in Bigwood, just outside of Newry, Co.Down.

The final round of the 2012 Irish NPS Series brought us to a new race venue Yellowater in Co.Down. The race was hosted by Colin Finley and his team at PLUSH MTB. No one really has any clue whatsoever of why the venue is called Yellow Water, I guess it will be one of those mysteries. The venue is just another section of the huge Rostrevor woods, We all know the famous Rostrevor for hosting races for the past few years.

On the 24th & 25th of September the 5th & final round of the 2011 Irish National Points series will be brought to you by PLUSHmtb at Yellow Water Forest, Rostrevor. The track will remain virtually the same as that used for the final round of the Ulster League.

Catering & loos as you’d expect, and a one-way parking scheme in operation, whilst campers & big wagons will use the main carpark 100m away.

Yellow Water Forest is located on the same road as the entrance to the field used for Rostrevor NPS races. Below is a couple of google maps links to the entrance of the forest. There will also be signposts up on the day.

The final round of the Nukeproof Ulster League was held at Yellow Water forest Rostrevor Co. Down

This was the first race to be held at Yellow Water for some years and the track itself is quite a technical track, with a mixture of steep sections, off camber roots and some tricky corners with lots of line choices, but with quite a short up lift riders where able to get a good few runs in before their first timed runs.

This is the 3rd & last round of the PLUSHmtb Nukeproof 2011 Ulster Downhill League. Round 1 uses the NPS Rostrevor race results & round 2 was held in Lumpers in April. Utilizing the best 2 out of 3 rounds to count, leaves the contest wide open, so if you made it to the first NPS in Rostrevor you are still in with a good chance in the League, if you race Yellow Water! ALSO racing the Ulster League round in Yellow Water acts as a great uplift days practice for the last NPS here in September 25-25th, which will be held on the same course.

Irish NPS Round 4 Race Report

Round 4 of the 2011 NPS brought us back to the legendary Whitehorse, Co. Waterford.

Basically Whitehorse is a small forest at the top of a hill, on top of a farm. Elite racer Tom Power who lived nearby began building tracks there years ago and there has been several races there ever since. The last race was back in 2009, and this year it made its comeback.

Less than 2 hours from Dublin and Cork Whitehorse has always been a popular venue so we are returning there once again to hold round four of the 2011 NPS.

This year’s National Champs duties fell to Epic DH and Flow Racing in the setting of Carrick in Co Wicklow. Both clubs had to give it their all if the event was to live up to the high standards set by last year’s event run by Chain Reaction Cycles.

A title sponsor came in the form of Nokia who kindly went on to donate Nokia N8s for the winner in each category and to king of the hill Dave Carroll.

Irish Dh National Champs Preview

On July 23/24, Epic DH & Flow Racing are teaming up with Nokia Ireland to bring you the biggest event on the Downhill calendar. The Nokia Irish Downhill National Championship will be held in the very fitting venue of Carrick Mountain, near the village of Glenealy in Co. Wicklow

This venue is well known and liked and has been tried and tested at both NPS and Championship levels. It is without doubt one of the most demanding, yet fun tracks on the Downhill Circuit.
