The Mahones win big. And new Album.

A big congratulations to The Mahones for winning best punk album form the 11th Independent Music Awards. The judges were Tom Waits, Keith Richards, Tori Amos and Ozzy Osborne. This is no surprise for us here at Irish punk, as we gave The Black Irish album an an incredibly rare 10/10 rating. be sure to check out our review here. The Mahones are not slowing down, they have also begun recording their new album titled Angles And Devils which as of now, is scheduled for a 2012 release.

35 Years Of Punk In Ireland

This year will be a milestone for the Punk scene in Ireland. It will mark the 35th anniversary of The Radiators from Space being the first punk band to make it into the top 20 with their song Television Screen. The Radiators, consisting of Philip Chevron (The Pogues) Pete Holidai, Jimmy Crashe, Steve Rapid, and Mark Megaray formed in Dublin 1975. The event will feature a debut documentary screening on Irish punk rock by Steve Murray, a photography exhibition and from 7pm to 11pm performances by, Loose Nut, Pulled Apart, Crows, Stick Around, and Boardwalk. The event will take place at The Twisted Pepper 54 Middle Abbey St, in Dublin Ireland on April 14th from 6:30pm till 2:30am.

Al Barr Issues An Apology

Dropkick Murphy's vocalist Al Barr recently came under heavy fire for using a homophobic slur in a promo video for the upcoming Punk & Disorderly Festival in Berlin. The video has since been removed, and Barr made a public apology on the Dropkick Murphy's Facebook fan page saying:

" I just wanted to address the negative comment that I made. First off, I'd like to apologize for using the term that I did. By no means did I intend for it to cause any hurt or harm, I now fully realize how insensitive it was."

Street Dogs Turn 10

This year will mark the 10 year anniversary of Street Dogs. Mike McColgan says they plan to commemorate the anniversary with a live record and a DVD which is currently in the works, along with other 7 inch splits and b side releases. McColgan also gave fans a tease by saying, "we also look to commemorate our past releases live. More on that later." Savin Hill was one of the first albums we ever reviewed here at Irish Punk. To this day, it's still one of my personal favorites.

Saint Patrick's Day 2012

It certainly feels like Armageddon around here. St Paddys is the busiest time of year for many bands and Celtic punk scene. There's going to be tons of festivals, parades, and all sorts of shindigs around the globe. Today, we will be taking a look at some of the major events and shows where bands will be performing. We are only going to be posting about shows on St. Patrick's Day itself, March 17. There are still some big events you should check out, such as Shamrock Fest on March 24.

Irish Moutarde Single The Bear and the Maiden Fair

Irish Moutarde is a fairly new Celtic punk band from Quebec City, Canada. And after their debut single, "The Bear and the Maiden Fair," it looks as if they're trying to steal my own heart by combining two of my favorite things. Game of Thrones, and Irish Punk. Their debut single is a cover of a song in the George R. R. Martin series, A Game Of Thrones. The song was featured in the books A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and Feast for Crows. The Bear and the Maiden Fair is a humorous tale about a hairy bear that goes to a local fair with three human companions and a goat to rescue a maiden.

Celtic Punk Bands At 14th Annual Punk Rock Bowling

It has been announced that Street Dogs, Far From Finished and The Real Mckenzies will be some of the Celtic punk bands appearing at this year's punk rock bowling. Since 1999, this music festival has been one giant party bringing together fans, great bands and of course bowling. This will be a three day event starting on May 25th but technically ending on the 28th. The turnout is expected to be 5000 fans and over 60 different bands performing throughout the weekend.

Blood Or Whiskey Back In The Studio

Blood Or Whiskey announced on February 9th, that they would be heading into Big Garden Recording to start work on a new album. This will be the first album since Cashed Out on Culture which was released seven years ago.

The Mahones Join Dropkick Murphys

Sir Reg Dying To Rebel Tour / Mats Injured

Sir Reg rockin Bouzouki player Mats Lindström is suffering from a broken femur after a gig in Berlin. The band says that he's in good spirits, but unfortunately he will not be able to continue on the Dying To Rebel tour. We here at Irish Punk would like to wish Mats a speedy recovery.

Going Out In Style Fenway Park Bonus Edition

The Dropkick Murphy's have announced that their Fenway Park bonus edition CD of Going Out In Style will be released March 13th, 2012 . It will include a bonus audio disc, a downloadable video of the entire concert, and the full story a fictional character Cornelius Larkin.

The Langer's Ball Will Debut A New Band

In just a few days The Langer's Ball will be debuting a new five piece band. They will be joined by The Broken Bicycles & The Ne'er Do Well's. I got their live album a few weeks ago, and it sounds fantastic. If you are within an 800 mile radius of Downtown St. Paul, I suggest you make your way down there.

New Dropkick Murphys Album In The Works

The Dropkick Murphy's announced on their website that they will be heading back into the studio in April to record a brand-new album. As of now, the expected release date will be sometime in September. They've also said the Going Out In Style Deluxe Edition is nearly complete.

The Real McKinzie's Westwinds Release Date

The Ramshackle Army / Murphy's Tour

Australian band The Ramshackle Army announced that they will be going on a US tour with the Dropkick Murphy's in early March. As of now, there are five shows scheduled. This includes the Murphy's famous St. Patrick's Day show, and they will also be appearing at this year Shamrock Fest.

New Album From The Go Set

Melbourne band The Go Set have been hard at work in the studio recording their new album, a follow-up to 2008's Rising with producer Paul Mckercher. The tracks, featuring a few from their EP Fallen Fortunes will be on CD and possibly record.
