Converting 2WD to 4WD

I own a 95 Jeep Cherokee with a 2.5l 150 ci. 4 cyl engine. I believe it has the Aisian AX5 transmision. I’m looking to converting it to a 4WD car. The transmission that I currently have was also made with a 4WD package. I dont want to do an engine swap to a 4.0l. I am a big fan of the 4 cyl engines for their durability and low end torque. I’ve of too many problems with 4.0 not to mention the amount of gas it consumes. What exactly should i look for as far as wanting a transmission that bolts right in to what i have now. I know im gonna need a tranfer case, a whole new front axle with a diff and locks. Any suggestions??

This all started with a bone stock 92 YJ. My first purchase was a safari top and the rail to mount it. Since that day I have added a rough country 4″ suspension lift, spring over on ford Dana 60′s. I’m running 37″ tires with all Chevy drivetrain. Overall I am at 12″ of lift with 450hp. Inside the danas are 4:56 gears with a spool up front and an Eaton e-locker in the rear. I built a custom snorkel kit that takes air from the cowl through a small cone. Soon to come is a stinger front bumper with 10k pound winch and fold down rear tire carrier. Some day I will convert it to a coilover setup but for now I’m happy with no more baby jeep.

Tires for NJ Snow

My first substantial upgrade was to the tires this past winter. We’ve had some pretty deep snow falls in northwest NJ and the stock tires had 45k + miles on them. Picked up Goodyear Duratrac 33s for my Sahara. I had no problems getting through the winter and will be getting ready to drive it down the shore next month.

I put a 4″ lift and 33 x 12.5 x 15 on my 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I also added a new steering stabilizer to compensate for the oversized tires. Works all Winter Plowing and goes over the mountain and through the woods. Nothing but fun 100% of the time.

Added these to my 02 Sahara, with Bestop full Bikini top. Work perfectly in this South Texas weather. My Bestop replacement softop with tinted windows is always along…covered with the Bestop tonneau cover and windows in the window rollup package…just in case the T-storms build more quickly than forecast! All the best stuff, with outstanding 4WD service and support. Can’t ask for better; it can’t be topped!
