Pechanga Resort & Casino has deployed EMC Isilon Scale-Out NAS solutions for their primary storage of video surveillance content as part of a complete data center transformation. The new integrated infrastructure, enabled the Surveillance Department to reduce its data center footprint by 80 percent and significantly cut energy and hardware costs.

2012 To Do: Bring an Enterprise-Ready Hadoop Solution to Market. Check!

We’re rooting for Hadoop here at EMC Isilon. It’s a fantastic platform and has tremendous potential to help enterprises with big data. Today, we’re very proud to announce significant innovation as we accelerate the enterprise adoption of Hadoop:

EMC Isilon’s OneFS 6.5 now natively integrates the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) protocol, thus becoming the industry’s first scale-out NAS system with native Hadoop support!

I’m so excited - no, wait, scratch that. I’M FIRED UP for what’s in store for 2012 here at Isilon! As great as 2011 was, this next year has even more industry game changers in store.

Since joining the EMC family, we’ve been on quite the ride as our parent company has taken our solutions into new use cases, environments and industries.

Your Big Data Company Just Got a Little Bit Bigger

In October, we packed up our former headquarters on the Seattle waterfront and headed to our new digs at 505 First Avenue South, in the city’s Pioneer Square area.

Big Data is growing and so are we! In the next year or so, we plan to hire an additional 200 employees to our existing 430 in the Seattle office. Our expansion was welcome news to the Seattle area, and we loved having our co-founder Sujal Patel, EMC CEO Joe Tucci and Seattle’s Mayor McGinn host the festivities!

When you make a big move like this, it’s hard not to look back and appreciate how far you’ve come.

Architecture Matters – Part II

This blog is the second in a series that focuses on architecture, specifically architecture for scale-out storage. In the last blog, I told the story of ‘Galloping Gertie’, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. If you didn’t have a chance to read it, please do; you’ll find it here. The thesis was that scale-out is not just single namespace, but true single filesystem and true scaling of resources as nodes are added.

The Bucketmaster (A fable for Halloween, with apologies to Hans Christian Andersen)

Once upon a time, there was a man who was a Bucketmaster. He lived in a very sunny land. He was a rich man, having sold buckets of water to many. He was also a learned man, having studied his craft far away in a land called Texas, and he much preferred his nickname from that school. So the people called him Aggie the Bucketmaster.

One day, a man who had bought water from Aggie the Bucketmaster for many years sat down to think. This man was also rich; he owned many bakeries where the people came to eat.
