RAMADHAN (FAST) THE MONTH OF PURITY

Narrated Talba bin 'Ubaid-UlIah: A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah's Messenger and said, "O Allah's Messenger! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards As Salat (the prayer) .He replied: "You have to perform the five compulsory salat (Iqamat-Aa salat) in a day and night (24 hours), unless you want to offer Nawafil ." The bedouin further asked, "Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards fasting." He replied, "You have to observe Saum (fast) during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me." Thus, Allah's Messenger informed him about all the laws (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, "By Him Who has honoured you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enoined on me." Allah's Messenger said, "If he is saying the truth, he will succeed (or said, he will be granted Paradise) ." (Sahih Bukhari 1891)

Narrated AbU Hurairah Allah's Messenger said, "Saum (fasting) is a shield (or a screen or a shelter from the Hell-fire. So, the person observing Saum (fast) should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should say to him twice, 'I am observing Saum (fast)." The Prophet added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a person observing aum (fast) is better with Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and sexual desires for My sake. The Saum (fast) is for Me . So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times."

Narrated SahI The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe Saum (fasts) will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe Saum (fast)?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."(Sahih Bukhari 1896)

Narrated Abu Hurairah Allah's Messenger said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." (Sahih Bukhari 1899)

Narrated Ibn 'Umar Iheard Allah's Messenger saying, "When you see the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), start observing aum (fast) and when you see the crescent (of the month of Shawwal), stop observing Saum; and if the sky is overcast (and you can't see it) then regard the crescent (month) of Ramadan (as of 30 days).(Sahih Bukhari 1900)

Narrated Abu Hurairah The Prophet said, "Whoever established salat (prayer) on the night of Qadr with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever observes Saum (fasts) in the month of Ramadan with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Jibril (Gabriel) visited him, and JibrIl used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Noble Qur'an to Jibril, and when Jibril met him, he used to be more generous than the fair wind [sent by Allah with glad tidings (rain) in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds.

Narrated Abu Hurairah The Prophet said, "Whoever does not give up lying speech (false statements) and acting on those lies and evil actions etc., Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink [i.e., Allah will not accept his Saum (fasting)]".(Sahih Bukhari 1903)

Narrated Abu Hurairah Allah's Messenger said, "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except Saum (fasting) which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.' Observing saum (fast) is a shield or protection (from the Hell-fire and from committing sins). If one of you is observing Saum (fast), he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarrelling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, 'I am observing Saum (fast).' By him in Whose hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the person observing saum, one at the time of Iftar (breaking his fast), and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his saum (fasting) ." (Sahih Bukhari 1904)

Narrated 'Alqama: While I was walking with 'Abdullah he said, "We were in the company of the Prophet and he said, 'He who can afford to many should many, because it will help him to lower his gaze (from looking at forbidden things and other women), and save his private parts (from committing illegal sexual acts etc.) and he who cannot afford to many is advised to observe saum (fasting), as saum (fasting) will restrain his sexual power."(Sahih Bukhari 1905)

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar : Allah's Messenger said, "The month (can be) 29 nights (i.e., days), and do not fast till you see the crescent-moon, and if the sky is overcast, then complete Sha'ban as thirty days."

Narrated Anas bin Malik The Prophet' said, "Take Sahur (late night meals ,i.e Shehri) as there is a blessing in it." (Sahih Bukhari 1923)

Narrated Abu Hurairah The Prophet said, "If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his Saum (fast), for what he has eaten or drank, has been given to him by Allah." (Sahih Bukhari 1933)

him, "Can you observe Saum (fast) for two successive months?" He replied in the negative. He asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative. (Abu Hurairah added): Then a basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet , and he said (to that man), "Feed (poor people) with this on your behalf (by way of expiation) ." He said, "(Should I feed it) to poorer people than we? There is no poorer house than ours between its (Al-Madina's) mountains." The Prophet said, "Then feed your family with it."

Narrated Abu Ad-Darda' We set out with Allah's Messenger on one of his journeys on a very hot day, and it was so hot that one had to put his hand over his head because of the severity of heat. None of us was observing aum (fast) except the Prophet and Ibn Rawaba. (Sahih Bukhari 1945)

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah Allah's Messenger was on a journey and saw a crowd of people, and a man was being shaded (by them). He asked, "What is the matter?" They said, "He (the man) is observing saum (fast).The Prophet said, "It is not from Al-Birr (righteousness) to observe Saum (the fast) on a journey. (Sahih Bukhari 1946)

Narrated Abu Saeed The Prophet said, "Isn't it true that a woman does not offer Salat (prayer) and does not observe Saum (fast) on menstruating? And that is the defect (a loss) in her religion.

Narrated 'Aishah Allah's Messenger said, "Whoever died and he ought to have observed Saum (fast) (the missed days of Ramadan) then his guardians must observe Saum (fast) on his behalf.

Narrated Sahl bin Saeed Allah's Messenger ; said, "The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the Iftar [breaking of the Saum (fast)] ." (Sahih Bukhari 1957)

Narrated 'Aishah Allah's Messenger used to observe Saum (fast) till one would say that he would never stop observing aum (fast), and he would abandon Saum (fast) till one would say that he would never observe Saum (fast). I never saw Allah's Messenger observing Saum (fast) for a whole month except the month of Ramadan, and did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Shaban.

Narrated 'Aishah The Prophet never observed Saum (fast) in any month more than in the month of Shaban. He used to say, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)." The most beloved Salat (prayer) to the Prophet was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet offered a Salat (prayer) he used to offer it regularly. (Sahih Bukhari 1970)

Narrated Abu Hurairah heard Allah's Messenger saying regarding Ramadan, "Whoever performed Salat (prayers) at night in it (the month of Ramadan) with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven.(Sahih Bukhari 2008)

Narrated Ibn Shihab: Abdur Rabman bin 'Abdul Qari said, "I went out in the company of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found the people performing Salat (prayers) in different groups. A man performing Salat (prayers) alone, or a man performing Salat (prayers) with a little group behind him. So, Umar said, 'In my opinion I would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (reciter) [i.e., let them perform Salat (prayers) in congregation!]'. So, he made up his mind and he congregated them behind Ubal bin Ka'b. Then on another night I went again in his company and the people were performing Salat (prayers) behind their reciter. On that, 'Umar remarked, 'What an excellent Bid'a (i.e., innovation in religion) this is; but the salat (prayers) which they do not perform, and sleep at its time is superior than the one they are performing now.' He meant the Salat (prayers) in the last part of the night. (In those days) people used to perform Salat (prayers) in the early part of the nigh.

Narrated 'Urwa that he was informed by 'Aishah "Allah's Messenger went out in the middle of the night and performed Salat (prayer) in the mosque and some men performed Salat (prayer) behind him. In the morning, the people spoke about it and then a large number of them gathered and performed Salat (prayer) behind him (on the second night). In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah's Messenger came out and the people performed Salat (prayer) behind him. On the fourth night the mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accomodate them, but the Prophet came out (only) for the morning a1at (prayer). When the morning Salat (prayer) was finished, he recited Tashah-hud and (addressing the people) said, "Amma ba'du, your presence was not hidden from me but I was afraid lest the night Salat (prayer) should be enjoined on you and you might not be able to carry it on." So, Allah's Messenger died and the situation remained like that (i.e., people offered the night prayers individually)

Narrated Abu Salama bin 'Abdur Rahman that he asked 'Aishah "How was the Salat (prayer) of Allah's Messenger in Ramadan?" She replied, "He did not perform alat (prayer) more than eleven Rak'a in Ramadan or in any other month. He used to perform four Rak'a -let alone their beauty and length - and then he would perform four Rak'a - let alone their beauty and length - and then he would perform three Rak'a (Witr)." She added, "I asked, 'O Allah's Messenger! Do you sleep before praying the witr ?' he replied, 'O 'Aishah! My eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep.

100 Golden Words of Imam Ali (R.A)

1. Do not speak to the people about everything you hear, this is enough as a stupidity.

2. Do not use the bad words even though answering is hard for you.

3. No goodness lies in silence with wisdom, as there is no goodness in saying with ignorance.

4. Speak and you shall be known, for the person is hidden under his tongue.

5. Do not say what you do not know, but do not say everything you know.

6. If the mind is complete, speaking would be much lesser.

7. The tongue is a lion, if set free it would kill.

8. The heart of the stupid is in his mouth, and the tongue of the wise man is in his heart.

97. Hear and you will learn, and be silent and you will be safe.

98. Treasure your tongue, like you do with your gold and papers.

31 Golden Hadiths (Part 1)

Surely, a Messenger has come unto you from among yourselves; grievous to him is that you should fall into trouble; he is ardently desirous of your welfare; and to the believers he is compassionate, merciful.(Qura an 9:128)

Verily you have in the Prophet of Allah an excellent model, for him who fears Allah and the Last Day and who remembers Allah much.(Qura an 33:22)

DUROOD SHAREEF IN THE LIGHT OF A QUR’ANIC VERSE

Allah says in the Qur’aan:

“Undoubtedly Allah and all His angels are sending salutations upon the Nabi....”

Allah says in the Qur’aan:

“O you who believe send your Salawaat upon Nabi (pbuh )it and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting.”

Verily Allaah and His angels pray for mercy to be showered upon the Nabi . O you who have Imaan! You also pray for mercy and an abundance of peace to be showered upon him.

DUROOD SHAREEF IN THE LIGHT OF A HADITH

“A miser is he who, when my name is mentioned in his presence, does not send salutations upon me.”(Tirmidhi)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah t reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “The person who confers Durood upon me once, Allaah will confer Durood upon him ten times.”( Muslim, Abu Dawood,)

Hadhrat Anas (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “When I am mentioned in front of anyone, he should confer Durood upon me because the person who confers Durood upon me once, Allaah will confer Durood (mercies) upon him ten times.” Another narration adds that together with the ten mercies that will be bestowed upon the person, ten of his sins will also be forgiven and his rank will be elevated ten times.(Nasa'ee and Ibn Hibbaan)

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “The closest person to me on the Day of Qiyaamah will be the one who recited the most Durood for me.”( Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibbaan)

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas'ood (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “Verily Allaah has (appointed) angels who travel throughout (the earth) only to convey to me the Salaams of my Ummah.”( Nasa'ee and Ibn Hibbaan)

Hadhrat Ammaar bin Yaasir (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “Verily Allaah has (appointed) an angel at my grave who can hear all of creation. Whenever any person conveys Durood to me until the Day of Qiyaamah, this angel conveys it to me together with the name of the person and his father’s name.”( Targheeb.)

Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “When someone confers Durood upon me at my grave, I can actually hear him and when he confers Durood upon me in my absence, it is conveyed to me.”(Bayhaqi)

Hadhrat Ubay bin Ka’b RA) (once asked, “O Rasulullaah (saw) I confer Durood to you in abundance. How much of my time for du’aa should I set aside for (reciting Durood upon) you?” “As much as you please,” Rasulullaah replied. “What about a quarter?” Hadhrat Ubay (RA) asked. Rasulullaah (saw) responded by saying, “As much as you please, but it would be better for you if you increased.” “Then what about half?” he asked further. “As much as you please, but it would be better for you if you increased,” Rasulullaah (saw) repeated. “Then three quarters?” Hadhrat Ubay (RA). “As much as you please, but it would be better for you if you increased,” Rasulullaah (saw) responded yet again. Hadhrat Ubay (RA) then said, “I shall then reserve all of it for you.” “In that case,” Rasulullaah (saw) remarked, “Your worries will be taken care of and your sins will be forgiven.”( Tirmidhi)

Hadhrat Abu Dardaa (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (saw) said, “The person who confers Durood upon me ten times in the morning and then ten times in the evening shall receive my intercession on the Day of Qiyaamah.”( Tabraani)

What Islam says about drinking alcohol

Allah, Most High says,

Spend in the way of Allah and do not put yourselves into destruction, and do good. Of course, Allah loves those who do good. (Qur’an 2:195)

O you who believe! Wine, gambling, altars and divining arrows are filth, made up by Satan (devil). Therefore, refrain from it, so that you may be successful.

Satan (devil) wishes only to plant enmity and malice between you through wine and gambling, and to prevent you from the remembrance of Allah and from Salah (prayer). Would you, then, abstain? (Qur’an 5:90-91)

They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, “In both there is great sin, and some benefits for people. And their sin is greater than their benefit.”(Qur’an 2:219)

O you who believe! Do not go near Salah (Prayer) when you are intoxicated, until you know what you say, nor in a state of major impurity’“...(Qur’an 4:43)

## Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (Zina) in Islam

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah was asked about Al-Bit' (mead). He said: 'Every drink that intoxicates is Harâm."(Muslim 5211)

The Messenger of Allah said: "Everything that detains (a person) from As-salat (prayer) is haram." (Muslim 5215)

It was narrated from Jabir that a man came from Jaishan - and Jaishan is in Yemen - and asked the Prophet about a drink that they used to drink in their land, which was made of corn and was called Al-Mizr. The Prophet said: "Is it an intoxicant?" He said: "Yes." The Messenger of Allah said: "Every intoxicant is Haram. Allah has made a covenant that whoever drinks intoxicants, He will give him to drink of the mud of Al-Khabal." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the mud of Al Khabal?" He said: "The sweat of the people of Hell, or the juice of the people of Hell."( Muslim : 5217)

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is Haram. Whoever drinks Khamr in this world and dies when he is addicted to it and has not repented, will not drink it in the Hereafter." (Muslim : 5218)

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever drinks Khamr in this world will be denied it in the Hereafter." (Muslim : 5222)

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever drinks Khamr in this world will not drink it in the Hereafter, unless he repents." ( Muslim : 5224)

It was narrated that Yaliya bin 'Umar Al-Nakha'I said: "Some people asked Ibn 'Abbâs about buying and selling Khamr and dealing in it. He said: 'Are you Muslims?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'It is not permissible to buy it, sell it or deal in it.' They asked him about NabIdh and he said: 'The Messenger of Allah went Out on a journey, then he came back and some of his Companions had made Nabidh in Al-Hantam, An-Naqir and gourds. He ordered that it be spilled out, then he ordered that raisins and water be put in a skin overnight. The next day he drank from it, and the following night, and the next day until evening came. He drank from it and gave it to others to drink, and the following morning he poured away whatever was left of it." ( Muslim :5230)

Thus, Allah the Exalted forbids wine and warns us of approaching it.The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Avoid wine, it is the mother of abomination. " (An-Nasa'i and AI-Baihaqi)

Allah the Almighty says, But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a fire, to abide therein: and they shall have a humiliating punishment. (An-Nisai)

Ibn 'Abbas related that, "When the wine was forbidden, the companions (of the Prophet) met each other and said, The wine was forbidden and became equal to polytheism (Shirk)." (AI-Mustadrak)

'Abdullah Ibn 'Amr held that, "Wine is the worst of the major sins.”(AI-Mustadrak)

Undoubtedly, wine is the core of abominations. Moreover, he who drinks it was cursed in various hadiths.

"Every intoxicant is wine and every wine is unlawful. Whoever it in the world and dies addictive to it without repentance, he will not drink it in the Hereafter."( Muslim, Abu Dawud)

"Whoever drinks wine in this world it shall be forbidden for them in the next.”( Al-Bukhari, An-Nisa'i)

"A drunkard is like a worshiper of an idol."( Ibn Majah)

"He who shows disrespect to his parents and the drunkard will not enter Paradise.”

"Three people, Allah will deprive them of Paradise; the drunkard, the one who shows disrespect to his parents and the pimp who admits what his family do of abomination”.( An-Nasa'i and AI-Hakim.)

Further, Allah does not accept the good deeds of a drunkard. Jabir Ibn ' Abdullah relates that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "There are Three people from whom Allah does not accept their Prayer nor do their good deeds rise up to heaven: the fleeing slave until he returns to his masters and surrends to them, the woman who annoys her husband until he is pleased with her, and the drunkard until he becomes conscious” (Al-Baihaqi)

The Arabic word Khamr is what befogs the mind in whatever form: soft, solid, edible or beverage.

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudari related that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Allah does not accept the Prayers from him who drinks wine so long as there is still something of it in his body” (An-Nasa'i)

"Whoever drinks wine Allah never accepts what he does: Whoever is intoxicated by drinking it will not have his Prayers accepted for forty morning (days). If he repents but drinks again, Allah will make him drink from the molten brass of the Hell-fire.”( Ibn Majah and An-Nasa'i)

"Whoever drinks wine without being intoxicated, Allah rejects him for forty nights. If he dies during this period, he dies as an idol worshiper.”( AI-Zawa'id)

'Abdullah Ibn Awfa said, "Whoever dies a drunkard will die as the worshiper of AI-Lat and AI-'Uzza (two idols). It is said, Do you think that the drunkard is the one who drinks it constantly? He answered, "But he drinks it whenever he finds it even after years.”( AI-Matalb)

Whoever drinks wine is not considered a believer at the time of drinking. Abu Hurayrah related that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "A thief is not a believer at the time of committing a theft. A fornicator is not a believer at the time of committing fornication, and a drunkard also is not a believer at the time of drinking as long as they have the opportunity to repent” "Whoever fornicates or drinks wine, Allah takes his faith from him as a man takes a shirt off over his head.”

"The scent of Paradise is smelt five hundred years away but is not sensed by whomever shows disrespect to his parents, he who reminds of his charity to them, a drunkard or an idol worshiper.” (AI-Zawa'id)

Imam Ahmad reported on the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari that the Prophet said, "A drunkard, a believer in sorcery or he who severs his family ties will not enter Paradise. Whoever dies while drinking wine, Allah will make him drink from the river of Ghuta which is the water flowing from the genitals of the wenches. The odor of their genitals hurt all the people of the Hell-Fire.” (Ai-Hakim and Ai-Baihaqi)

"Allah sent me as a mercy and guidance to the worlds. I was sent to do away with musical instruments, flutes, and the affairs of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance and idols. My Lord the Almighty swore by His Majesty that if one of my servants drinks a dosage of wine, I would make him drink the like of it in the Hell-Fire. But whoever gave up it out of fear from Me, I would give him drink from the yards of the shrine with the best fellow of drinking.”

As for those who are cursed because of drinking wine, Abu Dawud reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Allah has cursed wine, and whoever drinks it, pours it, buys it, presses it for another, presses it for himself, carries it or accept its delivery.” (Ahmad and Tabarani)

Ahmad reported on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Gabriel came to me and said, "O Muhammad, Allah has cursed wine, and whoever presses it for another, presses it for himself, drinks it, carries it, accepts its delivery, sells it buys it, pours it for another or pours it for himself. ( Tabarani)

It is unlawful to visit a drunkard when he is ill so is greeting him. `Abdullah Ibn 'Amr Ibn AI-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do not visit the drunkard when being ill."( Al-Mustadrak)

AI-Bukhari and Ibn 'Umar said, "Do not greet the drunkard."

The Prophet said, "Do not sit with the drunkard, visit their sick or attend their funerals. On the Day of Judgement the drunkard will be brought with a black face, and his tongue dangling on his chest, flowing with saliva. Whoever sees him knowing that he is a drunkard will disgust him.”

A scholar said, they are forbidden to be visited and be greeted because the drunkards are cursed and rebellious. Allah and His Messenger cursed them as mentioned before. Allah cursed wine and he who drinks it. If they buy and press it they will be cursed twice and if they pour it for another they will be cursed three times. Therefore, it is for bidden to visit or greet them unless they repent to Allah. Whoever repents to Allah. He will accept his repentance.

Wine is forbidden as a medicine. Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) related, "Once, one of my daughters was ill, so I made wine in a container for her. Then, the Prophet entered while it was boiling. He asked, "What is this, Umm Salamah?" She replied, "It is just a medicine for my daughter." The Prophet, then, said, "Allah has not made a cure for you in what He has prohibited to you."

Miscellaneous hadiths narrated about wine: Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet (pbuh) said, "A cask of wine was brought to the Prophet (pbuh) who said, Throw it against the wall, it is the drink of those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day.”

"Whoever memorizes a verse (Ayah) from Allah's Book and pours wine on it every letter of this Ayah will drag him from his forehead, make him stand before Allah Most Blessed and Exalted. Then, it argues with him, and whoever is argued with by the Qur'an will be treated as an opponent. Woe to whomever is argued by the Qur'an on the Day of Judgement.”

"If a group of people gather together to have an intoxicant in this world, Allah will gather them together in the Hell-Fire. They will turn to and blame one another by saying, O such and such may Allah not bless you. You brought me here."

"Whoever drinks wine in this world, Allah will make him drink from the poison of Asawid. One sip of this poison will make the flesh of his face fall in the goblet before he drinks it. Having drunk it, his flesh and skin will fall off, and it will bring pain to the people of the Hell-Fire. Behold, whoever drinks it, presses it for another, presses it for himself; carries it, accepts its delivery or eats its price are alike in entailing its sin. Allah does not accept their Prayer, Fasting or Pilgrimage until they repent. But if they die before doing repentance, Allah will make them drink pus of the Hell-Fire for every dosage they drank in this world. Beware, every intoxicant is wine, and every win is unlawful.”

The Prophet's statement "Every intoxicant is wine" included also hashish (marijuana) as will be shown later. It is narrated that "When the drunkards are brought to the bridge on the Fire (Sirat) they will be kidnapped by the angels of punishment to the river of Khabal. There they will drink for every glass of wine they have drunk a sip from the river of Khabal. Such a sip is so hot that if poured on to heaven, it will be burnt."

Ahadiths

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that women are married for their lineage, wealth, beauty and piety. You should marry one who is pious

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "The most blessed nikah is the one with the least expenses.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "O woman, your heaven and hell is your husband" (i.e. a woman will enter heaven if the husband is pleased, and hell if he is displeased with her).

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that if a woman died and her husband was pleased with her during her life, undoubtedly she has entered heaven

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that the best woman is the one that pleases her husband. When he looks at her, she pleases him. When he commands her, she obeys him. When he absents himself (goes away on a journey etc.) she protects his wealth and his honour.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "May Allah curse those women who imitate men in appearance and those men who imitate women."

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that Allah Subhanahu Taala says "Sight is a poisonous arrow of the devil. Whosoever, whether male or female protects himself or herself from evil glances will be granted a sweet Iman (faith) which will please his/her heart."

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: There are 3 persons whose prayer (salaah) is not accepted nor does any good act of theirs reach the sky. Firstly, a runaway slave until he returns to his master. Secondly, an woman whose husband is displeased with her and thirdly an intoxicated person as long as he does not repent from using intoxicants.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that evil (Shaytaan) (the devil) sits on his throne daily and dispatches his agents to work among human beings. One of the agents returns and says that I made a certain person commit a sin, another says I got so and so involved in this offence. Upon listening to all this evil (Shaytaan) says that you have done nothing great. Eventually one representative comes and says that I saw a husband and wife extremely devoted to each other. I sowed the seeds of enmity between them. On hearing this evil (Shaytaan) becomes happy and embracing his agent says that you have achieved something great.

Ibn Abbas Radhiallahu anhu narrates that a woman came to The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and said: "I have come as a representative of all women. We want to present a petition to you. Jihaad is fardh (compulsory) on men and only they obtain the reward of martyrdom. We women are deprived of it although we take responsibility for all their domestic affairs". The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "Convey this message on my behalf to all the women that they can achieve the reward of jihaad by obeying their husbands, but very few women consider this to be a reward."

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "When any woman troubles her husband, the celestial bride (hur) of heaven calls out "Woe to you. Do not trouble him. He is temporarily with you. He is going to leave you and be our guest. Why do you trouble our beloved?

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that the woman who performed her five daily prayers and kept the fast of Ramadan and protected herself from evil acts i.e. adultery and obeyed her husband, has a choice to enter heaven from whichever door she pleases.

It is reported from Hazrat Ibn Umar Radhiallahu Anhu that The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that when a woman leaves her home without her husband's consent then all the angels of the skies and the entire universe curse her for this act until she returns home.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said "A woman cannot fulfill the rights of Allah without fulfilling the rights of her husband. Even if a woman is busy at the stove and the husband calls her, in that busy period also she must leave all her work and answer his request.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "The rights of the husband on the wife are so great that if pus flows on the husband's body and the woman licks it clean, then too his rights will not be fully fulfilled.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said that the fragrance of heaven will be forbidden for a woman who asks her husband for divorce without any valid reason.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "The worst person on the day of Qiyamah will be the one who reveals the private life of his wife to others."

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "When a husband calls his wife at night to have relations with her and she refuses without a valid Shari reason, she is cursed throughout the night by the angels."

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) Whenever a strange man and woman meet in seclusion devil (Shaytaan) definitely is the third one by joining them.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "A woman should be kept concealed. When she emerges from the home without necessity, devil (Shaytaan) makes her appealing in the sight of men.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said : "When heaven and hell were shown to me I saw that the majority of the inmates of hell were women.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "It is not permissible for any woman to fast optionally without her husband's permission, and it is not permissible for her to allow anyone into his house without his consent.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "It is extremely abominable for a woman's shoulder to touch a man. It is better to touch a pig that is all messed up than for a woman to touch the body of a strange man.

Night Of Qadr (Night Of Power)

We have sent it (the Qur’an) down in the Night of Qadr

And what may let you know what the Night of Qadr is?

The Night of Qadr is much better than one thousand months

The angels and the Spirit descend in it, with the leave of your Lord, along with every command.

Peace it is till the debut of dawn.(Qur’an 97:1-5)

** Fasting (Ramadhan)

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) used to tell his pupils that only that blessed person will have the Night of Power who performs late night prayer during the whole year. His objective of this was that they would perform late night prayer the whole year to seek and achieve the Night of Power.

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) The Prophet said, "Whoever observed Saum (fast) in the month of Ramadan with sincere faith (i.e., belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the salat (prayers) in the night of Qadr with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven."(Sahih Bukhari: 2014)

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (RA) Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Allah's Messenger said, "It seems that all your dreams agree that (the night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e., the night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan) ."(Sahih Bukhari: 2015)

Narrated 'Aishah (RA) I Allah's Messenger said, "Search for the night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan." (Sahih Bukhari: 2017)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (RA) The Prophet said, "Look for the night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan; on the night when nine or seven or five nights remain out of the last ten nights of Ramadan [i.e., 21, 23, 25, (27, 29) respectively] ." (Sahih Bukhari: 2021)

It was narrated from Sâlim that his father [may Allah be pleased with them] said: "A man saw (in a dream) that Lailat Al-Qadr was the night of the twenty-seventh. The Prophet said: 'I see that your dreams indicate the last ten (nights), so seek it in the odd numbered ones thereof." (Sahih Muslim: 2763)

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al- Khudr (RA) said: "The Messenger of Allah used to observe I'tikaf during the middle ten days of the month. Then when twenty nights had passed, and the twenty-first came, he would go back to his home, and those who had been observing I'tikaf with him also went back home. Then one month he observed I'tikaf on that night when he used to go home. Then he addressed the people and exhorted them as Allah willed, then he said: 'I used to observe I'tikaf during these ten days, then I decided to observe I'tikaf during these last ten days, so whoever was observing I'tikaf with me, let him stay in his place of I'tikaf, for I was shown this night, then I was caused to forget it, so seek it in the last ten nights, on every odd-numbered night, for I saw myself prostrating in water and mud." Abu Sa'eed Al-KhudrI said: "It rained on the night of the twenty first, and the Masjid leaked at the place where the Messenger of Allah prayed. I looked at him when he had finished praying Subh and his face was wet with mud and water." (Sahih Muslim: 2769)

Zirr said:"I said to Ubayy bin Ka'b (RA) O Abu Al-Mundhir! How do you know that it is the night of the twenty-seventh?' He said: 'Rather, the Messenger of Allah informed us that it is a night (after which) the sun rises without rays, so we counted and we remembered it. By Allah! Ibn Mas'ud learned that it is in Ramadan and that it is the night of the twenty-seventh, but he did not want to inform you lest you would depend on it."(Tirmidhi: 793)

Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: “I asked: O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Laylat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?’ He (peace be upon him) replied, ‘You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).’"(Tirmidhi)

Fasting (Ramadhan)

O you who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you, so that you may be God-fearing, (Qur'an 2:183)

The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind, and as clear signs that show the right way and distinguish between right and wrong. So those of you who witness the month must fast in it. But the one who is sick, or is on a journey (should fast) as much from other days (as he missed). Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you. All this is so that you may complete the number (of fasts as prescribed) and proclaim the Takbir of Allah for having guided you, and (so) that you may be grateful. (Qur'an 2:185)

** Night Of Power (Night Of Qadr)
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) Allah's Messenger said, "Saum (fasting) is a shield or a shelter from the Hell-fire. So, the person observing Saum (fast) should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should say to him twice, 'I am observing Saum (fast)." The Prophet added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a person observing saum (fast) is better with Allah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and sexual desires for my sake. The Saum (fast) is for Me . So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.(Sahih Bukhari :1894)

Narrated Sahl (RA) The Prophet (PBUH) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe Saum (fasts) will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe Saum (fast)? They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it." (Sahih Bukhari :1896)
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) Allah's Messenger said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." (Sahih Bukhari :1899)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever established Salat (prayer) on the night of Qadr with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever observes Saum (fasts) in the month of Ramadan with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." (Sahih Bukhari :1901)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) Allah's Messenger said, "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except Saum (fasting) which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.' Observing Saum (fast) is a shield or protection (from the Hell-fire and from committing sins). If one of you is observing Saum (fast), he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarrelling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, 'I am observing Saum (fast).' By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the person observing saum, one at the time of Iftar (breaking his fast), and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his saum (fasting) ." (Sahih Bukhari :1904)

Narrated 'Aishah (RA) The Prophet used to kiss and embrace (his wives) while he was observing .Saum (fast), and he had more power to control his desires than any of you. Jabir bin Zaid said, "If a man gets asexual discharge as a result of casting a look (at his wife) should complete his Saum (fast) ." (Sahih Bukhari :1927)

Narrated Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur- Rahman: My father and I went to 'Aishah and she said, "I testify that Allah's Messenger at times used to get up in the morning in a state of Janaba from sexual intercourse, not from a wet dream and then he would observe Saum (fast) that day." (Sahih Bukhari :1931)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) The Prophet said, "If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his Saum (fast), for what he has eaten or drank, has been given to him by Allah." (Sahih Bukhari :1933)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) on the authority of the Prophet , "Whoever did not observe Saum (fast) for one day of Ramadhan without genuine excuse or a disease, then even if he observed Saum (fast) for a complete year, it would not compensate for that day."

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) While we were sitting with the Prophet (pbuh) a man came and said, "O Allah's Messenger! I have been ruined." Allah's Messenger asked what was the matter with him. He replied, "I had sexual intercourse with my wife while I was observing Saum (fast)."

Allah's Messenger (pbuh) asked him, "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He replied in the negative. Allah's Messenger ; asked him, "Can you observe Saum (fast) for two successive months?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet ; asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet (pbuh) kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet (pbuh) He asked, "Where is the questioner?" He replied, "I (am here)." The Prophet (pbuh) said (to him), "Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity." The man said, "Should I give it to a person poorer than I? By Allah; there is no family between its (i.e., Al-Madina's) two mountains who are poorer than I " The Prophet smiled till his premolar teeth became visible and then said, "Feed your family with it." (Sahih Bukhari :1936)

Narrated 'Aishah the wife of the Prophet (pbuh) Uamza bin 'Anir Al Aslami asked the Prophet "Should I observe Saum (fast) while travelling?" The Prophet replied, "You may observe Saum (fast) if you wish, and you may not observe Saum (fast) if you wish." (Sahih Bukhari :1943)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Messenger of Allah forbade fasting on two days: The day of A1-Adha and the day of Al- Fitr (Sahih Muslim:2672)

It was narrated from 'Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her] that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever dies owing any (obligatory) fasts, his Wali (relative) should make themupon his behalf. (Sahih Muslim:2672)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Prophet said: "If one of you starts his day fasting, let him not engage in any obscene or ignorant speech, and if someone insults him or argues with him, let him say: 'I am fasting, I am fasting (Sahih Muslim:2703)

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah it say: 'Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says: "Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is for Me, and I shall reward for it." By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the smell of the mouth of the fasting person is better to Allah than the fragrance of musk." (Sahih Muslim:2704)

It was narrated that 'Aishah, the Mother of the Believers [may Allah be pleased with her], said: "The Messenger of Allah used to fast until we said: 'He will not break his fast,' and he used not to fast until we said: 'He will not fast'. And I never saw the Messenger of Allah complete a month of fasting except Ramadan, and I never saw him fast more in any month than in Shaban." (Sahih Muslim:2721)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Prophet (pbuh) was asked: "Which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers, and which fasting is best after the month of Ramadan?" He said: "The best prayer after the prescribed prayer is prayer in the middle of the night, and the best fasting after the month of Ramadhan is fasting in the month of Allah, Muharram." (Sahih Muslim:2756)

It was narrated from Abu Ayyub Al- Ansari [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Messenger ofAllah said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted a lifetime." (Sahih Muslim:2758)

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] that some men among the Companions of the Prophet were shown Lailat Al-Qadr in their dreams, during the last seven (days of Ramadan). The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "I see that your dreams agree concerning the last seven (nights), so whoever wants to seek it, let him seek it in the last seven (nights)." (Sahih Muslim:2761)

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] that the Messenger of Allah used to observe I'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. Nafi' said: "Abdullâh showed me the place where the Messenger of Allah used to observe I'tikaf in the Masjid." (Sahih Muslim:2781)

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan and stands (in the night prayer) for it out of faith and seeking a reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven what preceded of his sins. Whoever stands (in the night prayer) on the Night of Al-Qadr out of faith and seeking a reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven what preceded of his sins."(Tirmidhi:683)

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said: "Whoever does not leave false speech, and acting according to it then Allah is not in any need of him leaving his food and his drink." (Tirmidhi:707)

Ibn 'Abbas narrated: "A woman came to the Prophet . and said: 'My sister died while she had two consecutive months of fasting due.' So he said: 'Do you not see that if there was a debt due from your sister then you would have to pay it?' She said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then the right of Allah is more appropriate. (Tirmidhi:716)

'Abdullah bin 'Amir bin Rabi'ah narrated from his father who said: "I saw the Prophet - (a number of times) such that I was not able to count - using the Siwak (tooth-stick) while he was fasting. (Tirmidhi:725)

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said: "A woman may not fast a day - other than in the month of Ramadan - while her husband is present, except with his permission." (Tirmidhi:782)

1)Ascribing Associates To Allah, (Shirk)

Surely, disbelievers are those who say, “Allah is the third of the three. while there is no god but One God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment shall certainly befall such disbelievers. (Qur’an 5:73)

Those who have believed and have not mixed their faith with injustice are the ones who deserve peace, and it is they who are on the right path. (Qur’an 6:82)

(Remember) when Luqman said to his son, while he was advising him, “My dear son, do not ascribe partners to Allah. Indeed, ascribing partners to Allah (shirk) is grave transgression.” (Qur’an 31:13)

And do not invoke, other than Allah, what neither benefits you nor harms you, for, if you do so, then you will surely be one of the unjust. (Qur’an 10:106)

Anas Radiyallahu 'anhu narrated (in a long narration) that Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Each and everyone will be liberated from Fire, who had said La ilaha illallah, and in his heart, there was goodness '(Iman) equal to the weight of a grain of barley. After them everyone will be liberated from the Fire who_ had said: La ilaha illallah, and in his heart, there was goodness (Iman) equal to the weight of a grain of wheat. After that, everyone will be liberated from the Fire who had said: La ilaha illallah, and in his heart, there was goodness (Iman) equal to the weight of a particle of dust. (Bukhari)

'Itban ibn Malik Al Ansari Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Not shall a slave (of Allah) appear on the Day of Resurrection having said La ilaha illallah seeking only the pleasure of Allah, except that Allah will forbid the Fire upon him. (Bukhari)

'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: O son of Khattab! Go and announce amongst the people that indeed none shall enter Paradise except the Mu'minun (believers). (Muslim)

'Itban ibn Malik Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Anyone who bears witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that I am His Messenger can never enter Hell or be burnt by its fire. (Muslim)

Mu'adh ibn Jabal Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Anyone who dies, bearing witness with the certainty of his heart that there is none worthy of worship but Allah and that I am His Messenger, will be forgiven by Allah. (Musnad Ahmad).

2) Killing A Human Being

You are the best Ummah ever raised for mankind. You bid the Fair and forbid the Unfair, and you believe in Allah.(Qur’an 3:110)

whoever kills a person not in retaliation for a person killed, nor (as a punishment) for spreading disorder on the earth, is as if he has killed the whole of humankind, and whoever saves the life of a person is as if he has saved the life of the whole of humankind. Certainly, Our messengers have come to them with clear signs. Then, after all that, many of them are there to commit excesses on the earth. (Qur’an 5:32)

Whoever kills a believer deliberately, his reward is Jahannam (Hell) where he shall remain forever, and Allah shall be angry with him and shall cast curse upon him, and He has prepared for him a mighty punishment. (Qur’an 4:93)

Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight you, and do not

transgress. Verily, Allah does not like the transgressors. (Qur’an 2:190)

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (R A) Allah's Messenger said, "A faithful believer remains at liberty regarding his religion unless he kills somebody unlawfully." (Sahih Bukhari :6862)

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (R A) One of the evil deeds with bad consequence from which there is n escape, for the one who is involved in it, is to kill someone unlawfully. (Sahih Bukhari :6863)

Narrated 'Abdullah The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The first case to be decided among the people (on the Day of Resurrection) will be those of bloodshed." (Sahih Bukhari :6864)

It was narrated that 'Abdullah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The first thing concerning which judgment will be passed among

the people on the Day of Resurrection will be bloodshed." (Sahih Muslim :4381)

Narrated Abdullah The Prophet ii said, "None (no human being) is killed or murdered (unjustly), but a part of responsibility for the crime is laid on the first son of Adam who started the first killing (murdering) on the earth. (It is said that he was Qabil)." (Sahih Bukhari :6867)

It was narrated that Abdullah said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'No soul is killed unlawfully, but there is a share of the sin on the first son of Adam, because he was the first one to set the precedent of killing."(Sahih Muslim :4379)

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) The Prophet (PBUH) said, "After me (i.e., after my death), do not become disbelievers by striking (cutting) the necks of one another. (Sahih Bukhari :6868)

3) Showing Disrespect to One's Parents

If one or both of a person’s parents are alive and he does not honor them he dies let him perish in the fire of hell. The prophet (PBUH) said Ameen (be like that) on the supplication by Jibril (AS) (Tirmidhi :3545)

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (RA) Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said, "It is one of the greatest sins that a man should curse his parents." It was asked (by the people), "O Allah's Messenger! How does a man curse his parents?" The Prophet (PBUH)said, "The man abuses the father of another man and the latter abuses the father of the former and abuses his mother." (Sahih Bukhari 5973)

Narrated Abu Bakra (RA) Allah's Messenger said thrice, "Shall I not . inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" We said, "Yes, O Allah's Messenger." He said, "To join partners in worship with Allah and to be undutiful to one's parents." The Prophet sat up after he had been reclining and added, "And I warn you against giving lying speech and a false witness; I warn you against giving a lying speech (forged statement) and a false witness." The Prophet kept on saying that warning till we thought that he would not stop. (Sahih Bukhari 5976)

'Abdullah bin 'Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "It is among the greatest of sins that a man should curse his parents." They said: "O Messenger of Allah ! Does a man curse his parents?" He said: "Yes. He verbally abuses the father of a man, who in turn, verbally abuses his father, and he (retaliates and) curses his mother, so he curses his mother.(Tirmidhi :1902)

4) Fornication

Do not even go close to fornication. It is indeed a shameful act, and an evil way to follow.(Qur'an 17:32)

Tell the believing men that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts; it is more decent for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.(Qur'an 24:30)

And tell the believing women that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts, and must not expose their adornment, except that which appears thereof, and must wrap their bosoms with their shawls, and must not expose their adornment, except to their husbands or their fathers or the fathers of their husbands, or to their sons or the sons of their husbands, or to their brothers or the sons of their brothers or the sons of their sisters, or to their women, or to those owned by their right hands, or male attendants having no (sexual) urge, or to the children who are not yet conscious of the shames of women. And let them not stamp their feet in a way that the adornment they conceal is known. And repent to Allah O believers, all of you, so that you may achieve success.(Qur'an 24:31)

Narrated 'Ikrima: Ibn 'Abbas i said: Allah's Messenger said, "When a slave (of Allah) commits illegal sexual intercourse then he is not a believer at the time of committing it; and when he steals then he is not a believer at the time of stealing; and when he drinks an alcoholic drink, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it, and he is not a believer when he commits a murder." 'Ikrima said: I asked Ibn Abbas, "How is Faith taken away from him?" He said, "Like this," by clasping his hands and then separating them, and added, "But if he repents, Faith returns to him like this," by clasping his hands again.(Sahih Bukhri 6809)

Narrated Abu Hurairah The Prophet (pbuh) said, "The one who commits an illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer at the time of committing illegal sexual intercourse; and a thief is not a believer at the time of committing theft; and a drinker of alcoholic drink is not a believer at the time of drinking. Yet, (the gate of) repentance is open thereafter."(Sahih Bukhri 6810)

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud: I said, "O Allah's Messenger! Which is the biggest sin?" He said, "To set up a rival unto Allah, though He Alone has created you." I asked, "What is next (biggest sin)?" He said, "To kill your son lest he should share your food with you." I asked, "What is next?" He said, "To commit illegal sexual intercourse with the wife of your neighbour."(Sahih Bukhri 6811)

Narrated Abu Hurairah A man came to Allah's Messenger (pbuh) while he was in the mosque, and he called him, saying, "O Allah's Messenger! I have committed illegal sexual intercourse." The Prophet , turned his face to the other side, but that man repeated his statement four times, and after he bore witness against himself four times, the Prophet ; called him, saying, "Are you mad?" The man said, "No." The Prophet said, "Are you married?" The man said, "Yes." Then the Prophet said, "Take him away and stone him to death."(Sahih Bukhri 6815)

5) Not Performing the Prayer

Surely, Salah is an obligation on the believers that is tied up with time. (Qur’an 4:103)

Establish Salah “ Surely Salah restrains one from shameful and evil acts. (Qur’an 29:45)

Success is really attained by the believers who concentrate their attention in humbleness when offering Salah (prayers) (Qur’an 23:1-2)

(Set your face to the Faith) turning totally towards Him, and fear Him, and establish Salah, and do not be among those who associate partners with Allah (Qur’an 30:31)

Then came after them the successors who neglected Salah and followed (their selfish) desires. So they will soon face (the outcome of their) deviation, (Qur’an 19:59)

What has brought you to Saqar? (Hell). They will say, “We were not among those who offered Salah , (obligatory prayer) (Qur’an 74:42-43)

Jabir Ibn Abdullah Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates: I heard Muhammad (PBUH) saying: Between man and (his entering into) polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment of Salat. (Sahih Muslim)

Naufal Ibn Mu'awiya Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Muhammad (PBUH) said: The person who missed even one Salat is as though he has been deprived of his entire family and wealth. (Ibn Hibban)

'Abdullah Ibn 'Amr Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that one day, Muhammad (PBUH) mentioned Salat and said: For him who remains mindful of his Salat, it will be a light and an argument in his favour and a means of his salvation on the Day of Judgement; and for him who is not mindful of his Salat, there shall be neither a light, nor an argument in his favour, nor a means for his salvation. And on the Day of Judgement, he will be with Fir'aun, Haman and Ubayy Ibn Khalaf. (Musnad Ahmad, Tabarani, Majma'uz- Zawaid).

Five Pillars of Islam :

Righteousness is not (merely) that you turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteousness is that one believes in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and the Book and the Prophets, and gives wealth, despite (his) love for it, to relatives, and to orphans, the helpless, the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and (spends) in (freeing) slaves and observes the Salat (prayers) and pays Zakat-and (the act of) those who fulfill their covenant when they enter into a covenant, and, of course, those who are patient in hardship and suffering and when in battle! Those are the ones who are truthful, and those are the God-fearing.(Qur’an 2:177)

Narrated Ibn Umar (R.A) Allah's Messenger (P.B.U.H) said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):

1. To testify that La ilaha illallah wa anna Muhammad-ar-Rasul Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).

2.Iqamat-as-Salat [to perform the (compulsory congregational) Salat (prayers)].")

3. To pay Zakat (obligatory charity)

4. To perform hajj. (i.e. pilgrimage to Makkah).

5. To observe Saum [fasts (according to Islamic teachings)] during the month of Ramadan. (Sahih Bukhari : 8)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a

deed which, if I do it, I will enter Paradise." He said: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed Salat, pay the obligatory Zakat and observe fast (in the month of) Ramadan." He said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! I shall never do any more than that or any less."

When he turned to leave, the Prophet said: "Whoever would like to see a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this man."(sahih Muslim : 107)

The Five Pillars of Islam

1-Shahadah:

The confession of faith is the fundamental expression of Islamic faith and the core of all Islamic law; it is very simple: "There is no God but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God" (la illaha illa 'lah Muhammadun rasul 'llah). The shahadah is the first thing spoken to a newborn and the last thing whispered into ears of the dead.

Your god is one God: There is no god but He, the All-Merciful, the Very-Merciful. (Qur’an 2:163)

Surely, I AM ALLAH. There is no god but Myself, so worship Me, and establish Salah for My remembrance. (Qur’an 20:14)

He prays to someone, instead of Allah, who can neither harm him nor benefit him. That is the error that takes him too far from the right path. (Qur’an 22:12)

Say, “The truth is that Allah is One. Allah is Besought of all, needing none. He neither begot anyone, nor was he begotten. And equal to Him has never been any one. (Qur’an 112:1-4)

And We sent no Messenger before you except that We revealed to him: There is none worthy of worship except Me, so worship Me. (Qur’an 21:25)

The believers are only those whose hearts tremble with fear whenever Allah is mentioned. And when His verses are recited to them, these increase their faith; and in their Rabb (Sustainer) they vest their trust. (Qur’an 8:2)

As for those who believe, and do good deeds, they are the people of Paradise -there they will live forever (Qur’an 2:82)

Surely those who believed and did righteous deeds, theirs are the Gardens of Firdaus (paradise) as entertainment (Qur’an 18:107)

do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah. In fact, only the infidels lose hope in Allah’s mercy.” (Qur’an 12:87)

They oblige you that they have accepted Islam, (as if it was a favour shown to you). Say, “Do not oblige me for your accepting Islam. Rather, Allah makes you obliged for His having guided you to the Faith, if you are truthful. (Qur’an 49:17)

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (R.A) The Prophet said, "When the people of Paradise will enter Paradise and the people of Hell will go to Hell, Allah will order those who have had faith equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed to be taken out from Hell. So they will be taken out but (by then) they will be blackened (charred). Then they will be put in the river of hayat (life) (the narrator is in doubt as to which is the right word), and they will revive like a grain that grows near the bank of a flood channel. Don't you see that it comes out yellow and twisted?" Wuhaib stated: While narrating us 'Amr (R.A) used the word 'hayat (life). Moreover he said, "...goodness equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed (Sahih Bukhari : 22)

Narrated Anas The Prophet said, "Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith:

1. The one to whom Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad) become dearer than anything else.

2. Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake.

3. Who hates to revert to atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire." (Sahih Bukhari : 16)

Whoever hates to revert to Kufr (atheism or disbelief) as he hates to be thrown in fire, is a part of faith.

Narrated Anas The Prophet said, "Whoever possesses the following three qualities will taste the sweetness of faith:

1. The one to whom Allah (SWT) and His Messenger Muhammad become dearer than anything else.

2. Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake.

3. Who hates to revert to disbelief (atheism) after Allah (SWT) has brought him out (saved him) from it, as he hates to be thrown in fire." (Sahih Bukhari : 21)

2- Salat ( prayer)

Islam enjoins upon the believer five prayers every day. These ritual prayers must be performed in the direction of Mecca and involve first standing, inclining, prostrating oneself, and sitting. The call to prayer is sounded by the muezzin (Muslim crier) from a tower (minaret) within the mosque. The prayers are read from the Qur'an and must be chanted from memory in Arabiyya, or the classical Arabic of the Qur'an . It is not allowed to either have a book in one's hand or to chant the Quranic prayers in another language. Personal prayers, called du'a in Arabic, can be made in one's own language.

Verily Salat restrains (oneself) from immorality and all that is forbidden. (Qur’an 29: 45)

Surely those who believe and do good deeds, and establish Salat (prayer) and pay Zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve. (Qur’an 2: 277)

Recite (O Prophet) what is revealed to you of the Book, and establish Salat “ Surely Salat restrains one from shameful and evil acts. Indeed remembrance of Allah is the greatest of all things. Allah knows what you do. (Qur’an 29:45)

O you who believe, seek help through patience and prayer. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient. (Qur’an 2:153)

O you who believe, respond to Allah and the Messenger when He calls you to what gives you life, and be sure that Allah intervenes between man and his heart, and that to Him you shall be gathered (Qur’an 8:24)

Surely, I AM ALLAH. There is no god but Myself, so worship Me, and establish Salah for My remembrance. (Qur’an 20:14)

O you who believe, when you rise for Salah, (prayer) wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and make wash (wiping by hands) of your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of major impurity, cleanse yourselves well (by taking bath). If you are sick, or on a journey, or if one of you has come after relieving himself, or you have had sexual contact with women, and you find no water, then, go for some clean dust and wipe your faces and hands with it. Allah does not like to impose a problem on you; He, rather likes to cleanse you and to complete

His favour upon you, so that you may be grateful. (Qur’an 5:6)

Jabir Ibn 'Abdullah (R A) narrates that Muhammed (PBUH) said: The key to Paradise is Salat and the key to Salat is Wudu. (Musnad Ahmad)

Abu Hurairah (R A) narrates that Muhammed (PBUH) said: The five times Salat and the prayer of Friday to Friday, and the fasting of Ramadan to Ramadan, are atonements for sins that have been committed between them, provided the sinner avoids major sins. (Sahih Muslim)

Anas (R A) narrates that Muhammed (PBUH) said: The comfort and delight of my eyes has been placed in Salat. (Nasai)

Ali (R A) narrates that the last words of Muhammed (PBUH) were: As-Salat, as-Salat* fear Allah about those whom your right hand possesses (your slaves and subordinates). (Abu Dawud)

Note: * Vigilantly observe, guard and establish Salat.

3- Saum (Fast) Ramadan :

Narrated Abu Hurairah Allah's Messenge said, "Whoever observes Saum (fasts) during the month of Ramadan cut of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah's Rewards, then all his past sins will he forgiven. (Sahih Bukhari : 38)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] that the Messenger of Allah said: "When Ramadân comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of the Fire are closed, and the devils are fettered." (Sahih Muslim : 2495)

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with them] said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah it say: 'Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says: "Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is for Me, and I shall reward for it." By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the smell of the mouth of the fasting person is better to Allah than the fragrance of musk." (Sahih Muslim : 2704)

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Ithudri [may Allah be pleased with them] said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah it say: 'Whoever fasts for one day in the cause of Allah, Allah will remove his face (the distance of) seventy autumns' from the Fire." (Sahih Muslim : 2713)

During the month of Ramadan, all believers must refrain from food, drink, and sexual relationships from dawn until dusk. The month of Ramadan occurs at different times of the year (the Muslim calendar is a lunar rather than a solar calendar), so the severity of the fast varies. The fast is intended to purify the believer as a renunciation of the world.

4-Zakat (Charity) :

And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allah, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing

partners to Him) and to perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as- salat) and to give Zakat, and that is the right religion." (Qur’an 98 :5)

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah

said: 'There is no day on which people wake up, but two Angels come down and one of them says: O Allah, give more to the one who spends, and the other says: O Allah, send destruction upon the one who withholds." (Sahih Muslim : 2336)

It was narrated from Hudhaifah that the Prophet said: "Every good deed is a charity." (Sahih Muslim : 2328)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: "Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says: 'O son of Adam, spend, and I shall spend on you." And he said: "The right Hand of Allah is full and overflowing, and nothing of that diminishes due to the night and the day."(Sahih Muslim : 2308)

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Dinar that you spend in the cause of Allah, a Dinar that you spend to free a slave, a Dinar that you give in charity to a needy person, and a Dinar that you spend on your family – the greatest of them in reward, is the one that you spend on your family." (Sahih Muslim : 2311)

It was narrated from Abu Mas'ud Al Badri that the Prophet said: "If a Muslim spends on his family, seeking reward for that with Allah, then it will be charity on his part." (Sahih Muslim : 2322)

The Qur'an does not vilify the accumulation of wealth in fact, Islam manifestly understands the material world as created for the enjoyment of humanity. However, one's duties to God involve distributing one's wealth to the less fortunate. This is instituted in Islamic law, the Shari'ah, which constrains everyone to give the equivalent of 2 ½ (two & half) percent of their wealth to the poor in the form of taxes (if one's wealth is in money). Islamic society, it is not unfair to assert, was the first welfare state in existence! Just as the fast of Ramadan purifies the believer through renouncing the world, the zakat purifies the believer by encouraging a charitable disposition and a lack of attachment to worldly belongings.

5-Hajj (The pilgrimage to Mecca):

Every believer must once in their life make a pilgrimage to the Ka'bah, the sacred shrine of Islam in Mecca. By recreating many of the events of the life of Abraham and Ishmael who are, in Islamic tradition, the founders of the Ka'bah, one injects oneself into the core of Islamic history and re-evaluates one's life and one's society in the perspective of that history.

The first house set up for the people is surely the one in Makkah having blessings and guidance for all the worlds.( Qur’an 3:96)

and announce among people about (the obligation of) Hajj, so that they should come to you on foot, and on every camel turned lean, traveling through every distant hilly pathway, ( Qur’an 22:27)

Have they not, then, traveled on earth so that they should have had hearts to understand with, or ears to listen with? The fact is that it is not the eyes that turn blind, but what turns blind is the hearts contained in the chests.(Qur’an 22:46)

Modesty in Islam (Haya)

O children of ‘Adam, We have sent down to you the dress that covers your shame and provides adornment. As for the dress of Taqwa (piety), that is the best. That is one of the signs of Allah, so that they may learn a lesson. (Qur’an 7:26)

From this verse of Holy Quran, we came to know that dressing with modesty is very important for all of us. Allah (SWT) has allowed people to wear nice clothes and put on a good appearance, as doing so is one aspect of remembering Allah’s blessings upon them. Holy Quran states about wearing clothes in these words:

Say, “Who has prohibited the adornment Allah has brought forth for His servants, and the wholesome things of sustenance?” Say, “They are for the believers during this worldly life (though shared by others), while they are purely for them on the day of Resurrection. This is how We elaborate the verses for people who understand.” (Qur’an 7:30)

Narrated Abu Hurairah : The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty sub-divisions or branches (i.e. parts). And Al Haya (this term Haya covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are selfrespect,modesty, bashfulness, and honour etc.) is a part of faith."(Sahih Bukhari :9)

The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media. The ‘hijab’ or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the ‘subjugation’ of women under Islamic law. Before we analyze the reasoning behind the religiously mandated ‘hijab’, let us first study the status of women in societies before the advent of Islam

Islam uplifted women and gave them equality and expects them to maintain their status.

Islam uplifted the status of women and granted them their just rights 1400 years ago. Islam expects women to maintain their status.

Hijab for men

People usually only discuss ‘hijab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijab’ for men before ‘hijab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor:

“Say to the believing men that they must lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.” (Qur’an 24:30)

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

Hijab for women.

The next verse of Surah Noor, says:

“ And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons...”(Qur’an 24:31)

Six criteria for Hijab.

According to Qur’an and Sunnah there are basically six criteria for observing hijab:

1. Extent:

The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered. This is different for men and women. The extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees. For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands upto the wrist. If they wish to, they can cover even these

parts of the body. Some scholars of Islam insist that the face and the hands are part of the obligatory extent of ‘hijab’.

All the remaining five criteria are the same for men and women.

2. The clothes worn should be loose and should not reveal the figure.

3. The clothes worn should not be transparent such that one can see through them.

4. The clothes worn should not be so glamorous as to attract the opposite sex.

5. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.

6. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religions.

Hijab includes conduct and behaviour among other things

Complete ‘hijab’, besides the six criteria of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behaviour, attitude and intention of the individual. A person only fulfilling the criteria of ‘hijab’ of the clothes is observing ‘hijab’ in a limited sense. ‘Hijab’ of the clothes should be accompanied by ‘hijab’ of the eyes, ‘hijab’ of the heart, ‘hijab’ of thought and ‘hijab’ of intention. It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.

Hijab prevents molestation

The reason why Hijab is prescribed for women is mentioned in the Qur’an in the following verses of Surah Al-Ahzab:

“O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

(Qur’an 33:59)

The Qur’an says that Hijab has been prescribed for the women so that they are recognized as modest women and this will also prevent them from being molested.

Example of twin sisters

Suppose two sisters who are twins, and who are equally beautiful, walk down the street. One of them is attired in the Islamic hijab i.e. the complete body is covered, except for the face and the hands up to the wrists. The other sister is wearing western clothes, a mini skirt or shorts. Just around the corner there is a hooligan or ruffian who is waiting for a catch, to tease a girl. Whom will he tease? The girl wearing the Islamic Hijab or the girl wearing the skirt or the mini? Naturally he will tease the girl wearing the skirt or the mini. Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. The Qur’an rightly says that hijab prevents women from being molested.

Capital punishment for the rapists

Under the Islamic shariah, a man convicted of having raped a woman, is given capital punishment. Many are astonished at this ‘harsh’ sentence. Some even say that Islam is a ruthless, barbaric religion! I have asked a simple question to hundreds of non-Muslim men. Suppose, God forbid, someone rapes your wife, your mother or your sister. You are made the judge and the rapist is brought in front of you. What punishment would you give him? All of them said they would put him to death. Some went to the extent of saying they would torture him to death. To them I ask, if someone rapes your wife or your mother you want to put him to death. But if the same crime is committed on somebody else’s wife or daughter you say capital punishment is barbaric. Why should there be double standards?

Western society falsely claims to have uplifted women

Western talk of women’s liberalization is nothing but a disguised form of exploitation of her body, degradation of her soul, and deprivation of her honour. Western society claims to have ‘uplifted’ women. On the contrary it has actually degraded them to the status of concubines, mistresses and society butterflies who are mere tools in the hands of pleasure seekers and sex marketeers, hidden behind the colourful screen of ‘art’ and ‘culture’.

Top five countries of the highest rates of rape

1. South Africa

With an estimated of 500,000 rape cases every year, the country has one of the highest rate of Rape Crimes in the world. It is estimated that more than 40% of South African women will be raped in their lifetime. The Medical Research Council has estimated that only 1 in 9 rapes are reported. Thus the actual numbers of rapes is much higher than numbers recorded by the police.

2. Sweden

Sweden now has the second highest number of rapes in the world, after South Africa, which at 53.2 per 100,000. Statistics now suggest that 1 out of every 4 Swedish women comes out to be the victim of rape.

3. USA

According to George Mason University, Worldwide Sexual Assault Statistics, 1 in 3 American women will be sexually abused during their lifetime. About 19.3% of women and 2% of men have been raped at least once in their lives. Additionally, an estimated 43.9% of women and 23.4% of men experienced other forms of sexual violence during their lifetimes. Many victims of sexual abuse were victimized at a young age, about 79% were first raped before age 25, and 40% before age 18. (USA today).

4. England and Wales

According to a report entitled “An Overview of Sexual Offending in England and Wales”, released in 2013, by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Home Office; Approximately 85,000 victims of rape per year in England and Wales – 73,000 females and 12,000 males, equating to about 230 cases every day. The report stated that 1 in every 5 women has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16.

5. India

According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), crimes against women have increased by 7.5% since 2010. The number of reported rapes in India, a country of over 1.2 billion people, has gone up to 33,707 in 2013 from 24,923 in 2012. The majority of rape victims are between 18 years and 30 years. About one out of three victims is below 18, and one in ten rape victims is under 14. In India, a woman is being raped after every 20 minutes.

Consider a scenario where the Islamic hijab is followed in world. Whenever a man looks at a woman and any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he lowers his gaze. Every woman wears the Islamic hijab, that is the complete body is covered except the face and the hands upto the wrist. After this if any man commits rape he is given capital punishment. I ask you, in such a scenario, will the rate of rape in America increase, will it remain the same, or will it decrease?

Implementation of Islamic Shariah will reduce the rate of rapes

Naturally as soon as Islamic Shariah is implemented positive results will be inevitable. If Islamic Shariah is implemented in any part of the world, whether it is America or Europe, society will breathe easier. Hijab does not degrade a woman but uplifts a woman and protects her modesty and chastity.

The Day of Judgement

Certainly, the Hour is bound to come. There is no doubt in it, but most of the people do not believe. (Qur’an 40:59).

Each one of them is bound to come to Him on the Day of Judgment, all alone.(Qur’an 19:95).

On that day, you will be brought forward in a way that no secret of yours will remain secret. (Qur’an 69:18).

Position of Parents in Islam

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and do good to parents. If any one of them or both of them reach old age, do not say to them: uff (a word or expression of anger or contempt) and do not scold them, and address them with respectful words,(Qur’an 17:23)
And We have enjoined upon man to do good to his parents. His mother carried him with difficulty and delivered him with difficulty. And his carrying and his weaning is (in) thirty months, until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says, “My Lord, grant me that I offer gratitude for the favour You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I do righteous deeds that You like. And set righteousness, for my sake, in my progeny. Of course, I repent to you, and truly I am one of those who submit to You.”(Qur’an 46:15)
We commanded man (to be good) in respect of his parents. His mother carried him (in her womb) despite weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. (We said to man,) “Be grateful to Me, and to your parents. To Me is the ultimate return.(Qur’an 31:14)
“You shall not worship anyone other than Allah; and you shall do good to the parents, and to near of kin, and to orphans and the needy.(Qur’an 2:83)
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and all believers on the day when reckoning shall take place.”(Qur’an 14:41)
“My Lord, be merciful to them as they have brought me up in my childhood.”(Qur’an 17:24)
Narrated Abü Hurairah A man came to Allah's Messenger (PBUH), and said, "O Allah's Messenger! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet ; said, "Your mother." The man said ,"Who is next?" The Prophet A said ,"Your mother." The man further said,"Who is next?" The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Your mother." The man asked (for the fourth time), "Who is next?" The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Your father."(Sahih Bukhari 5971)
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: A man asked the Prophet , "Shall I participate in Jihãd?" The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Are your parents living?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Do Jihãd for their benefit.,(Sahih Bukhari 5972)
(Note - Jihad is compulsory for the Muslim community. So a Muslim should take permission from his parents to go for it, but when an enemy of Islam attacks the Muslim rights or their country, then he does not need the permission of parents.)
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (RA) Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said, "It is one of the greatest sins that a man should curse his parents." It was asked (by the people), "O Allah's Messenger! How does a man curse his parents?" The Prophet ij said, "The man abuses the father of another man and the latter abuses the father of the former and abuses his mother."(Sahih Bukhari 5973)
Narrated Asma': "My mother who was a Musjrikah (pagan, etc.), came with her father during the period of the peace pact between the Muslims and the Quraish infidels. I went to seek the advice of the Prophet saying, "My mother has arrived and she is hoping (for my favour)." The Prophet said, "Yes, be good to your mother."(Sahih Bukhari 5979)
If One or both of a person’s parents are alive and he does not honor them and he dies let him perish in the fire of hell.The prophet (pbuh) said Ameen on this supplication by jibril(AS) (Tirmidhi 3545)
It was narrated from Mu'iwiyah bin Jihimah As-Sulamthat Jshimah came to the Prophet and said: "O Messenger of Allih! I want to go out and fight , (in jihad) and I have come to ask your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet."(Sunan an Nasai 3106)
Abdullâh bin 'Amr bin A1-'As said: "A man came to the Prophet of Allah and said: 'I swear my allegiance to you, that I will migrate and engage in Jihâd, seeking reward from Allah.' He (pbuh) said: 'Are either of your parents alive?' He said: 'Yes, both of them.' He said: 'Are you seeking reward from Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then go back to your parents and be a good companion to them." (Sahih Muslim 6507)
It was narrated from Abü Hurairah that the Prophet said: "May his nose be rubbed in the dust, may his nose be rubbed in the dust, may his nose be rubbed in the dust." It was said: "Who, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "The one whose parents, one or both of them, reach old age during his lifetime and he does not enter Paradise."(Sahih Muslim 6510)
It was narrated from 'Abdullâh bin 'Umar that the Prophet said: "The best act of Birr(Being dutiful and reverential to one's parents.) is for a man to uphold ties with the friends of his father." (Sahih Muslim 6514)

FASTING IN ISLAM

O you who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you, so that you may be God-fearing, (Qur'an 2:183)

The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind, and as clear signs that show the right way and distinguish between right and wrong. So those of you who witness the month must fast in it. But the one who is sick, or is on a journey (should fast) as much from other days (as he missed). Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you. All this is so that you may complete the number (of fasts as prescribed) and proclaim the Takbir of Allah for having guided you, and (so) that you may be grateful. (Qur'an 2:185)

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (R.A)The Prophet observed the Saum (fast) on the 10th of Muharram ('Ashura'), and ordered (Muslims) to observe Saum (fast) on that day, but when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was prescribed, the fasting of the 'Ashura' was abandoned. 'Abdullali did not use to observe fast on that day unless it coincided with his routine fasting by chance. (Sahih Bukhari 1892).

Narrated AbU Hurairah (R.A) Allah's Messenger said, "Saum (fasting) is a shield (or a screen or a shelter from the Hell-fire. So, the person observing Saum (fast) should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he should say to him twice, 'I am observing Saum (fast)." The Prophet Muhammad(p.b.u.h) added, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a person observing saum (fast) is better with A1lah than the smell of musk. (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink ad sexual desires for My sake. The Saum (tast) is for Me . So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times."(Sahih Bukhari 1894)

Narrated SahI (R.A) The Prophet (pbuh) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe Saum (fasts) will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe Saum (fast)?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."(Sahih Bukhari 1896)

Narrated Abti Hurairah (R.A) Allah's Messenger said, "When (the month of) Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened."(Sahih Bukhari 1898)

Narrated AbU Hurairah Allah's Messenger said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained."(Sahih Bukhari 1899)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (R.A) The Prophet Muhammad(p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever established salat (prayer) on the night of Qadr with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever observes Saum (fasts) in the month of Ramadan with sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."(Sahih Bukhari 1901)

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (R.A) The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Jibril (Gabriel) visited him, and JibrIl used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) used to recite the Noble Qur'an to Jibril, and when Jibril met him, he used to be more generous than the fair wind [sent by Allah with glad tidings (rain) in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds.].(Sahih Bukhari 1902)

Narrated AbU Hurairah Allah's Messenger said, "Allah said, 'All the deeds of Adam's sons (people) are for them, except Saum (fasting) which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.' Observing saum (fast) is a shield or protection (from the Hell-fire and from committing sins). If one of you is observing Saum (fast), he should avoid sexual relation with his wife and quarrelling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, 'I am observing Saum (fast).' By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of a fasting person is better before Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the person observing aum, one at the time of Iftãr (breaking his fast), and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his saum (fasting) ."(Sahih Bukhari 1904)

Narrated 'Aishah (R.A) The Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)used to kiss and embrace (his wives) while he was observing .saum (fast), and he had more power to control his desires than any of you. Jabir bin Zaid said, "If a man gets a sexual discharge as a result of casting a look (at his wife) should complete his Saum (fast) ."(Sahih Bukhari 1927)

Narrated Hishãm's father: 'Aishah said, "Allah's Messenger Muhammad (pbuh) used to kiss some of his wives while he was observing saum (fast) ," and then she smiled. (Sahih Bukhari 1928)

Narrated Abfl Bakr bin 'Abdur- Rahmãn: My father and I went to 'Aishah and she said, "I testify that Allah's Messenger ; at times used to get up in the morning in a state of Janaba from sexual intercourse, not from a wet dream and then he would observe Saum (fast) that day."(Sahih Bukhari 1931)

Narrated Abu Hurairah While we were sitting with the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) a man came and said, "O Allah's Messenger! I have been ruined." Allah's Messenger asked what was the matter with him. He replied, "I had sexual intercourse with my wife while I was observing Saum (fast)." Allah's Messenger asked him, "Can you afford to manumit a slave?" He replied in the negative. Allah's Messenger ; asked him, "Can you observe Saum (fast) for two successive months?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet ; asked him, "Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons?" He replied in the negative. The Prophet ; kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet . He asked, "Where is the questioner?" He replied, "I (am here)." The Prophet said (to him), "Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity." The man said, "Should I give it to a person poorer than I? By Allah; there is no family between its (i.e., Al-Madina's) two mountains who are poorer than L" The Prophet smiled till his premolar teeth became visible and then said, "Feed your family with it."(Sahih Bukhari 1936)

Narrated 'Aishah the wife of the Prophet h: Uamza bin 'Amr Al Aslami asked the Prophet "Should I observe Saum (fast) while travelling?" The . Prophet replied, "You may observe Saum (fast) if you wish, and you may not observe Saum (fast) if you wish." (Sahih Bukhari 1943)

Informing the Angels About Adam

Allah the Almighty revealed:

"Remember when your Lord said to the angels: 'Verily, I am going to place mankind generations after generations on earth.' They said: 'Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, while we glorify You with praises and thanks (exalted be You above all that they associate with

You as partners) and sanctify You.' Allah said: 'I know that which you do not know.' Allah taught Adam all the names of everything, then He showed them to the angels and said: "Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful." They (angels) said: "Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise." He said: "O Adam! Inform them of their names," and when he had informed them of their names, He said: "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been hiding?"

Remember when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourself before Adam" They prostrated except Iblis, he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers(disobedient to Allah)."

We said: "O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimeen (wrongdoers)." Then the Satan made them slip therefrom (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: "Get you down all with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time." Then Adam received from his Lord Words. His Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the most Merciful. We said: "Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, and signs and revelations, etc) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever." (Chapter 2:30-39, Qur'an).

Almighty Allah also revealed:

"And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam", and they prostrated, except Iblis, he refused to be those who prostrate. Allah said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not postrate when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay." Allah said: "O Iblis get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." Iblis said: "Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (Day of Resurrection)." Allah said: "You are of those allowed respite." Iblis said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (they will not be dutiful to You)." Allah said: "Get out from Paradise, disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all." "And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimeen (unjust and wrongdoers)."

“Then Satan whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts before, he said:" Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." Satan swore by Allah to them both saying: "Verily I am one of the sincere well wishers for you both." So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). Their Lord called out to them saying "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you, Verily Satan is an open enemy unto you?" They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers." Allah said: "Get down one of you an enemy to the other (i.e. Adam, Eve, and Satan etc). On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment, for a time." He said: "therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (resurrected)." (Chapter 7:11-25 Qur'an).

Adam's Progeny Accept Allah

Allah the Almighty revealed:

"Remember when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves saying: 'Am I not your Lord?' They said: 'Yes! We testify' lest you should say on the Day of Resurrectio:. 'Verily we have been unaware of this'. Or lest you should say: 'It was only our father aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allah and we were merely their descendants after them; will you then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practiced al batil (polytheism) and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah?'

Thus do We explain the Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations etc) in detail so that they may turn unto the truth". (Ch 7:172-174 Quran).

Adam's progeny declared: "Our Lord, we bear witness that You are our Lord; we have no other Lord but Allah. Allah raised their father Adam, and he looked at them and saw those of them who were rich and those who were poor, and those who had good forms and those who did not. Adam said: "O Allah! I wish You to make Your servants equal." Allah replied "I love being thanked." Adam saw among the prophets like lamps among his progeny.

Teaching Adam

Almighty Allah granted Adam the power to know the natures of all things and to summarize them by names; that is a bird, that is a star, that is a tree, etc Allah implanted in Adam an insatiable need for and love of knowledge and a desire to bequeath knowledge to his children. This was the reason for his creation and the secret of his glorification. After Adam had learned the names of all things, along with their properties and uses, Allah presented them to the angels and said:

"Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful."(Ch 2:31 Quran)

The angels admitted their inability:

"Glory be to You, we have knowledge except what You have taught us. Verily it is You the All Knower, the All Wise." (Ch 2:32)

Allah Almighty then turned to Adam:

"O Adam! Inform them of their names," and when he had informed them of their names, He said: 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been hiding?'" (Ch 2:33).

Allah wanted the angels to know that He knew of their astonishment when He had told them about the creation of Adam and that He also knew of their confusion which they had not revealed, as well as what Iblis had concealed of his disobedience and ingratitude. The angels realized that Adam was the creature who knew what they did not know and that his capacity to learn was his noblest quality. His knowledge included knowledge of the Creator which we call faith or Islam, as well as the knowledge he would need to inhabit and master the earth. All kinds of worldly knowledge which are included in this. Adam knew the names of everything. Sometimes he talked to the angels, but they were preoccupied with worshipping Almighty Allah. Therefore Adam, felt lonely. One day he slept and when he awoke he found near his head, a woman gazing at his face with beautiful tender eyes. The angels asked him her name he replied: "Eve (Hawa)." (means living things). They asked: "Why did you call her Eve?" Adam said: "Because she was created of me and I am a living being."

Adam Sees Eve

Ibn Abbas and a group of companions of the Prophet (PBUH) narrated that when Iblis was sent out of Paradise and Adam was accommodated therein, Adam was alone in Paradise and did not have a partner from whom he could get tranquility. He slept for some time and when he woke up, he saw a woman whom Allah had created from his ribs. So he asked her, "Who are you? She replied, "A woman" He asked: "Why have you been created?" She said :"So that you could find tranquility in me." The angels, trying to find out the extent of his knowledge, asked him: "What is her name, O Adam?" He replied, "Eve". They asked: "Why was she so named?" He replied, " Because she was created from something living."

Eve's Creation

Muhammad Ibn Ishaaq and Ibn Abbas related that Eve was created from the shortest left rib of Adam while he was sleeping and after awhile she was clothed with flesh. That is why Allah the Exalted said: "O men, fear your Lord who created you from a single soul, and from it created its match, and spread many men and women from the two. (Qur'an Ch 4:1)

Allah also said:

"It is he Who has created you from a single person (Adam) and then He created from him his wife (Eve), in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her."(Qur'an Ch 7:189).

Allah's Warning to Adam and Eve

O ‘Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise, and eat from wherever you like, but do not go near this tree, otherwise you shall join the transgressors.”

Then Satan whispered to them, so that he might expose to them their shame that was hidden from them; and said, “Your Lord has not prohibited this tree for you, but to avoid your becoming angels or your becoming eternal.”

He swore an oath, “I am one of your well-wishers.”

Thus, he cast both of them down by deception. When they tasted (the fruit of) the tree, their shame was exposed to them, and they began to patch together some leaves of Paradise upon themselves, and their Lord called them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree? Did I not tell you that Satan is your declared enemy?”(Qur'an Ch 7:19-22).

O children of ‘Adam, “Do not let Satan put you in trouble the way he had your parents expelled from Paradise, having their dress removed from them, so that he could show them their shame. Indeed, he sees you _ he and his company _ from where you do (Qur'an Ch 7:27).

Adam's Life on Earth

Allah said, “Go down, some of you enemies of some; and for you on the earth there will be a dwelling place and enjoyment for a time.”

(Further) He said, “There you shall live and there you shall die, and from there you shall be raised again.”

Adam knew he bade farewell to peace and he left Paradise. On earth he had to face conflict and struggle. No sooner had one ended than another began. He also had to toil to sustain himself. He had to protect himself with clothes and weapons and protect his wife and children from the wild beasts.

Above all, he had to struggle with the spirit of evil. Satan, the cause of his expulsion from Paradise, continued to beguile him and his children in an effort to have them thrown into the eternal hellfire. The battle between good and evil is continuous, but those who follow Allah's guidance and should fear nothing while those who disobey Allah and follow Iblis will be damned along with him.

Adam grasped all of this and with the knowledge of this suffering he started his life on the earth. The only thing that allowed his grief was that he was master of the earth and had to make it yield to him. He was the one who had to perpetuate, cultivate and construct and populate the earth. He was also the one who had to procreate and raise children who would change and improve the world.

The First Four Children

The pinnacle of earthly bliss was reached when Adam and Eve witnessed the birth of their first children, a set of twins. Adam was a devoted father and Eve a contented mother. The twins were Cain (Qabil) and his sister. Later Eve gave birth to a second set of twins, Abel (Habil) and his sister. The family enjoyed the bounties and fruits of the earth provided by their Lord. The children grew up to be strong and healthy young adults. Cain tilled the land while Abel raised cattle.

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Shaper. His are the Most Beautiful Names. His purity is proclaimed by all that is in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All- Mighty, the All-Wise.(Qur’an 59:24)

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Verily there are ninety-nine names of Allah; one hundred less one, he who memorizes them enters Paradise. He is Allah besides Whom there is none worthy of worship,(Sahih Muslim 2677)

Narrated Abu Hurairah Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred less one, and whoever complies with (believes in) their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise (Sahih Bukhari 6410)

Maryam and her son prophet Isa (Jesus) in Quran

Allah (swt) says

16. And mention in the Book (the story of) Maryam, when she secluded herself from her people to a place towards East,

17. then she used a barrier to hide herself from them. Then, We sent to her Our Spirit, (Jibra’il) and he took before her the form of a perfect human being.

18. She said, “I seek refuge with the All-Merciful (Allah) against you, if you are God-fearing.”

19. He said, “I am but a message bearer of your Lord (sent) to give you a boy, purified.”

20. She said, “How shall I have a boy while no human has ever touched me, nor have I ever been unchaste?”

21. He said, “So it is; your Lord said, It is easy for Me, and (We will do this) so that We make it a sign for people and a mercy from Us, and this is a matter already destined.’.

22. So she conceived him, and went in seclusion with him to a remote place.

23. Then the labour pains brought her to the trunk of a palm-tree. She said “O that I would have died before this, and would have been something gone, forgotten.”

24. Then he called her from beneath her: “Do not grieve; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you.

25. Shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards yourself and, it will drop upon you ripe fresh dates.

26. So eat, drink and cool your eyes. Then if you see any human being, say (to him), “I have vowed a fast (of silence) for the All-Merciful (Allah,) and therefore, I shall never speak to any human today.”

27. Then she came to her people carrying him (the baby). They said, “O Maryam you have committed something grave indeed.

28. O sister of Harun, neither your father was a man of evil nor was your mother unchaste.”

29. So, she pointed towards him (the baby). They said, “How shall we speak to someone who is still a child in the cradle?”

30. Spoke he (the baby), “Verily I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Book, and made me a prophet,

31. and He has made me a blessed one wherever I be, and has enjoined Salah and Zakah upon me as long as I am alive,

32. and (He has made me) good to my mother, and he did not make me oppressive (or) ill-fated.

33. And peace is upon me the day I was born, the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised alive again.”

34. That is Isa, the son of Maryam, to say the truth in which they (Christians) are disputing.

35. It is not for Allah to have a son. Pure is He. When He decides a thing, He simply says to it, “Be. and it comes to be.

36. And (O Prophet, say to the people,) “Allah is surely my Lord and your Lord. So, worship Him. This is the straight path.” (Quran 19 16 -36)

45. (Remember the time) when the angels said: “O Maryam, Allah gives you the good news of a Word from Him whose name is Masih Isa , the son of Maryam (the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary) a man of status in this world and in the Hereafter, and one of those who are near (to Allah).

46. He shall speak to people while (he is still) in the cradle, and also later, when he is of mature age; and he shall be one of the righteous.”

47. She said: “O my Lord, how shall I have a son while no human has ever touched me?” Said He: “That is how Allah creates what He wills. When He decides a matter, He simply says to it Be’, and it comes to be.

48. He shall teach him the Book and the Wisdom, and the Torah and the Injil,

49. and (shall make him) a messenger to the Children of Isra’il (who will say to them): “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that is, I create for you from clay something in the shape of a bird, then I blow in it, and it becomes a living bird by the will of Allah; and I cure the born-blind and the leper, and I cause the dead to become alive by the will of Allah; and I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your homes. In this there is surely a sign for you, if you are (truly) believers.

50. (I have come to you) confirming that (book) which is (sent down) prior to me, that is, the Torah, and to make permissible for you some of what was prohibited to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. So, fear Allah and obey me.

51. Allah is surely my Lord and your Lord. So, worship Him. This is the straight path.

(Quran 3 45-51)

Little about Heaven

Paradise is the tremendous reward which Allaah (swt) has prepared for His beloved and those who obey Him. It is complete joy and pleasure, where nothing is lacking and nothing can disturb its purity. What Allah (swt) and His Messenger have told us about it makes out heads spin because our minds are not able to comprehend the greatness of such blessings.

Listen to the words of Allah (swt) in this hadith qudsi:

"I have prepared for My righteous slaves that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and has never crossed the mind of any human being".

"No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do". (Quran 32:17)

The joys of Paradise are far greater than the pleasures of this world, which pale into insignificance in comparison. al-Bukhaari reports that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "A space the size of a whip in Paradise is better than this world and al that is in it". (Fath al-Baari, 6/319, an-Nawawi's commentary on Muslim 17/166)

Because admittance to Paradise and salvation from the Fire are according to Allah's will and judgement, it is a great victory and tremendous success, as Allah (swt) says:

"Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, will have indeed attained the object of life [or: been successful]" (Quran 3:185)

"Allah has promised to believers - men and women - Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein [forever], and beautiful mansions in Gardens of everlasting bliss. But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme felicity [or success]". (Quran 9:72)

"...and those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing underneath, to abide therein [forever] and that will be the supreme achievement". (Quran 4:13)

Paradise: There is Nothing Like It

The delights of Paradise surpass the imagination and defy description. They are like nothing known to the people of this world; no matter how advanced we may become, what we achieve is as nothing in comparison with the joys of the Hereafter. As is mentioned in several reports, there is nothing like Paradise:

"It is sparkling light, aromatic plants, a lofty palace, a flowing river, ripe fruit, a beautiful wife and abundant clothing, in an eternal abode of radiant joy, in beautiful soundly-constructed high houses". [Ibn Maajah, ]

The Sahabah asked the Prophet (saw) about the buildings of Paradise and he replied with a wonderful description:

"Bricks of gold and silver, and mortar of fragrant musk, pebbles of pearl and sapphire, and soil of saffron. Whoever enters it is filled with joy and will never feel miserable; he will live there forever and never die; their clothes will never wear out and their youth will never fade." [Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, ].

Allah (swt) indeed spoke the truth when He (swt) said: "And when you look there [in Paradise] you will see a delight [that cannot be imagined]. and a great dominion" [76:20]

What Allah (swt) has kept hidden from us the delights of Paradise is beyond our ability to comprehend: al-Bukhaari reported from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said that Allah (swt) said, "I have prepared for My slaves what no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human heart can imagine". Recite if you wish, "No person know what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do." (32:17).

In the version reported by Muslim from Abu Hurayrah, there is the addition, "Never mind what Allaah has told you; what He has not told you is EVEN greater".

The Last Person to Enter Paradise

'Abdullaah ibn Mas'oud reported that the Messenger of Allah (Saw) said: "The last person to enter paradise will be a man who will alternately walk, stagger and be touched by the Fire. Once he has passed out of the Fire, he will turn to face it and say, "Blessed be He Who has saved me from you. Allaah (swt) has given me something that He did not give to the earlier and later generations. Then a tree will be raised up for him, and he will say, "O my Rabb, bring me closer to this tree so that I may enjoy its shade and drink of its water". Allah (swt) will say, "O son of Aadam perhaps if I grant you this, you will ask Me for something else?" He will say, "No, O Rabb, I promise that I will not ask for anything else". Allah (swt) will excuse him because he is seeing something that he has no patience to resist so he will bring him closer and he will enjoy its shade and drink its water. Then another tree, better than the first, will be raised up for him and he will say, "O my Rabb, bring me near to this tree so that I may drink its water and enjoy its shade, then I will not ask you for anything more". Allah (swt) will say, "O son of Aadam did you not promise Me that you would not ask me for anything else? Perhaps if I bring you closer to this tree you will ask for more?" So the man will promise not to ask for any more, and Allah will excuse him because he is seeing something that he has no patience to resist, so He will bring him closer and he will enjoy its shade and drink its water. Then a third tree will be raised up at the gate of paradise, and it will be better than the first two. The man will say, "O My Rabb, bring me closer to this [tree] so that I may enjoy its shade and drink its water, and I will not ask for anything more." Allah will say, "O son of Aadam, did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything more?" He will say, "Yes, O Rabb, I will not ask you for anything more." His Rabb, may He be glorified, will excuse him because he is seeing something which he has no patience to resist, so He will bring him closer. When he is brought close, he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and will say, "O my Rabb, admit me to it." Allah (swt) will say, "O son of Aadam what do you want so that you will never ask Me for anything else? Will it please you if I give you the world and as much again?" He will say, "O Rabb, are You making fun of me when You are the Rabb al-Aaalameen?" Ibn Mas'oud smiled and said, "Why do you not ask me why I am smiling?" They asked, "Why are you smiling?" He said, "Because the Messenger of Allah (saw) smiled". They asked, "Why are you smiling, O Messenger of Allah (saw)?" He said, "Because the Rabb of the Worlds will smile when He is asked, "Are You making fun of me when You are the Rabb of the Worlds?" He will say, "I am not making fun of you, but I am able to do whatever I will""". [Muslim, no. 187, ]

Verses Of Quran

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala said to His Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

And lower the wings of your tenderness over the believers. [Al-Hijr 15: 88]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

And hasten for forgiveness from your Rabb and to a Paradise whose width is as vast as the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who fear Allah.

Those who spend freely whether in prosperity or in adversity; who hold and check their anger, and forgive people, and (indeed,) Allah loves the doers of good. [Ale-'Imran 3: 133-134]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

And the true servants of Rahman (the most gracious Allah) are they who walk on the earth with humility. [Al-Furqan 25: 63]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

(It is permitted that) An ill-deed be revenged by an ill-deed. However, whoever forgives and resolves his differences (which terminate enmity and lead to friendship as this is even better than forgiveness) then his great reward is Allah's responsibility. (But whosoever exceeds the limits while taking revenge let him know) that verily He (Allah) does not like the Oppressors. [Ash-Shura 42: 40]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

And whenever they get angry, they readily forgive. [Ash-Shura 42: 37]

The advise which Luqman 'Alaihis Salam gave his son has been mentioned by Allah: Subhanahu wa Ta'ala:

(O my son!) And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk proudly on the earth. Verily, Allah does not like the arrogant (and) boastful.

And walk with humility and dignity and lower your voice, (for if a loud voice was something of excellence, then the asses' voice would have been good, whereas) verily, the harshest of all voices is the braying of the asses. [Luqman 31: 18-19]

Ahadith

1. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: Verily, a Mu'min by his good conduct acquires the rank of one who fasts and stands in Salat during the night. (Abu Dawud)

2. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: The most perfect amongst the believers in faith is one who has the best manners; and best of you are those who are best to their wives. (Musnad Ahmad)

3. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Indeed, the most perfect believer in faith is one who has the best manners and is the kindest to his family. (Tirmidhi)

4. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: I am astonished that a person buys slaves with his wealth and sets them free; why does he not buy free people with good conduct, as its reward is much greater. (If he deals well with the free, they will be obliged) (Qada-ul-Hawaij, Jami-us-Saghir)

5. Abu Umamah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: I guarantee an abode on the boundary of Paradise for him who gives up a quarrel, even if he is right; and an abode in the centre of Paradise for him who abandons lying, even if it is for the sake of fun; and an abode in the highest grade of Paradise for him who excels in good conduct. (Abu Dawud)

6. Anas ibn Malik Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: He who meets his Muslim brother in a manner pleasing to Allah (for instance cordially) so as to make him happy, Allah will make him happy on the Day of Resurrection. '(Tabarani, Majma-'uz-zawaid)

7. 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: Indeed, a Muslim who strictly confines himself to Sharia'h and owing to his fine conduct and polite manners, achieves the rank of that person who fasts frequently and stands for prolonged periods in Salat at night reciting the verses of Holy Qur'an. (Musnad Ahmad)

8. Abu Darda' Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: There will be nothing heavier on the Scale than good conduct. (Abu Dawud)

9. Mu'adh ibn Jabal Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that the parting advice of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to me, when I had put my foot in the stirrup, was: Beautify your conduct for people Q Mu'adh ibn Jabal ! (Muatta Imam Malik)

10. Malik Rahimahullah says that the following saying of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has been conveyed to me: "I have been sent for the perfection of good conduct." (Muatta Imam Malik)

11 Jabir Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Undoubtedly, amongst you the most beloved and nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection, will be those having the most excellent conduct. (Tinnidhi)

12. Nawwas ibn Sam'an Al-Ansari Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I asked Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about righteousness and sin. He replied: righteousness is good character, and sin is that which revolves in your heart about which you do not want people to know. (Muslim)

13. Makhul Rahimahullah narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: The believers are very soft and lenient, like an obedient camel which when led follows and when made to sit on a rock, does so obediently. (Tirmidhi, Mishkat-uI-Masabih)

14. 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)said: Shall I not inform you about the person who is forbidden from the Fire and for whom the Fire is forbidden? Anyone who is close to people, soft and lenient. (Tirmidhi)

15. 'Iyyad' ibn Himar Radiyallahu 'anhu, of Bani Mujashi' narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a Hadith Qudsi said: Indeed, Allah has revealed to me that you should show humility to the extent that neither one considers himself superior to others, nor oppresses others. (Muslim)

16. 'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)saying: Whoever humbles himself for the sake of Allah, Allah will exalt him; as a result of that he considers himself small, yet in the eyes of people he becomes great. But he who is arrogant, Allah abases him; and he becomes small in the eyes of people, although he considers himself great to the extent that people consider him to be worse than a dog or a pig. (Baihaqi)

17. 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: He will not enter into Paradise who has the smallest particle of arrogance in his heart. (Muslim)

18. Mu'awiyah Rad'iyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: He who likes that people should stand up for him in respect, let him make his abode in Hell. (Tirmidhi)

19. Anas Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that none was dearer to the Sahabah than Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) yet when they saw him, they did not stand up, knowing his dislike for this. (Tirmidhi)

20. Abu Darda' Radiyallahu anhu narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: No one suffers any bodily injury, yet forgives this, except that Allah raises his rank by a degree and removes a sin from him. (Tirmidhi)

21. Jawdan Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: If anyone offers an excuse to his Muslim brother and he does not accept the excuse, then he becomes guilty of a sin like that of an unjust tax collector. (ibn Majah)

22. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Musa ibn 'Imran 'Alaihis Salam said: O my Rabb! Who is the most respectable slave to you? Allah the Almighty and Majestic replied: He who forgives, despite having the power to avenge. (Baihaqi)

23. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that a person came to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and asked: O Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)! How many times may I forgive my servant? Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) remained silent. The man asked again: O Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)! How many times may I forgive my servant? He replied: Everyday seventy times. (Tirmidhi)

24. Hudhaifah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: Indeed, there was a man before your time to whom an angel came to take his soul. It was said to him: Did you do anything good? He replied: I do not know. It was said: Recollect! He said: I do not remember doing anything good, except that I used to do business with people in the world, and would grant the rich more time to pay back, and let off. the poor who were in constraints. At this Allah admitted him into Paradise. (Bukhari)

25. Abu Qatadah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying: If anyone likes that Allah should save him from the anxieties of the Day of Resurrection, he should grant respite (in paying back a loan) to one who is in constraints, or forgo the debt. (Muslim)

26. Anas Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I served Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for ten years in Medina. I was an adolescent, therefore all my services were not according to the desire of my master (because of my tender age, many lapses were committed during these ten years). However, he never said a word of displeasure to me; neither "why did you do this?" nor "why did you not do that?". (Abu Dawud)

27. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that a person requested Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Advise me. He said: Do not get angry. The man repeated this several times, and he replied: Do not get angry. (Bukhari)

28. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: The powerful is not he who knocks down others; undoubtedly the powerful is the one who controls himself in a fit of anger. (Bukhari)

29. Abu Dhar Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told us: When one of you become angry while standing, he should sit down. If his anger subsides, well and good; otherwise he should lie-down. (Abu Dawiid)

30. Abdullah Ibn ' Abbas Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Teach religion to people, give them good tidings, do not make things difficult for them; and when anyone of you gets angry, he should remain silent. (Musnad Ahmad)

31. 'Atiyah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Undoubtedly, anger comes from Shaitan. Indeed Shaitan is created from fire, and verily fire is extinguished with water. So if one of you becomes angry, he should perform Wudu. (Abu Dawud)

32. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: No slave has swallowed back anything more excellent in the sight of Allah the Almighty and Majestic than the anger he swallows, seeking only the pleasure of Allah. (Musnad Ahmad)

33. Mu'adh Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: He who restrains his anger, while in a position to give effect to it, Allah will call him on the Day of Resurrection in front of all His creations, and let him choose any of the beautiful large eyed maidens of Paradise he desires. (Abu Dawud)

34. Anas ibn Malik Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: He who guards his tongue, Allah conceals his faults. Whoever restrains his anger, Allah will restrain His punishment from him on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever apologises to Allah the Almighty and Majestic, He accepts his excuse. (Baihaqi)

35. Mu'adh Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said to Ashajj, chief of the tribe of ' Abde Qais: You have two qualities which Allah loves: Forbearance and deliberation. (Muslim)

36. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha, wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said: O 'A'ishah! Verily, Allah is kind and loves kindness. Whatever He confers for kindness is neither conferred upon being harsh nor through any other means except it. (Muslim)

37 Jarir ibn 'Abdullah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Whoever is deprived of kindness is deprived of all good. (Muslim)

38. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anhu. narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Anyone given his share of gentleness, has been given his share of the good of this world and the Hereafter. Anyone deprived of his share of gentleness has been deprived of his share of the good of this world and the Hereafter. (Sharh us Sunnah)

39. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Allah does not confer kindness upon a family but to benefit them; and does not deprive them of kindness but to harm them. (Baihaqi, Mishkat-uI-Masabih)

40. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates that some Jews came to see Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and said: Assamu'alaikum (Death be upon you). 'A'ishah countered: Upon you it be, and Allah's curse be upon you and Allah's wrath be upon you. He said: Behold O 'A'ishah! Keep to kindness, and avoid harshness and indecency. She asked: Did you not hear what they said? He said: Did you not hear how I replied? The same upon you! My prayers against them will be accepted and theirs against me will not be accepted. (Bukhari)

41. Jabir ibn 'Abdullah Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed: May Allah confer mercy upon a man who is kindly, when selling, when buying and when demanding his balance. (Bukhari)

42. 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: The believer who mixes with people and endures any harm that they cause him has a greater reward than a believer who does not mix with people, and does not endure the harm they cause him. (Ibn Majah)

43. Suhaib Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that 'Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: It is remarkable that everything turns out well for a believer; and that applies only to a believer. If happiness befalls him he is thankful and it turns out well for him. and if misfortune befalls him, he shows endurance and it turns out well for him. (Muslim)

44. Abdullah ibn Mas'ud Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to make this supplication: O Allah! You have made my appearance beautiful, so make my conduct excellent too. (Musnad Ahmad)

45. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: He who agrees to the return of something sold to a Muslim, Allah forgives his faults. (Abu Dawod)

46. Abu Huraira Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)said: He who forgives the faults of a Muslim, Allah will forgive his faults on the Day of Resurrection. (Ibn Hibban)

The Dignity Of a Muslim

Verses Of Quran

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

Verily! A believing slave is better than a free idolater even though he may be more appealing to you. [Al-Baqarah 2: 221]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

Is he who was dead (being without Faith); and We gave him life (by giving him Faith) and set for him a light (of Faith); whereby he can walk amongst men, be compared to him who is in the deep darkness (of disbelief) from which he can never come out? (Meaning thereby, can a Muslim be compared to an unbeliever?) [Al-An'am 6: 122]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

Can he, then, who is a true believer, be compared to him who is an evildoer? Surely they are not alike. [As-Sajdah 32: 18]

Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says:

Dignity of a Muslim Then We gave the Book (the Qur'an) as inheritance to those of our servants whom We have chosen. [Fatir 35 32]

Note: After prophet Muhammad(PBUH) this Ummah has inherited this book. Meaning thereby, that every Muslim of this Ummah has been distinguished by a unique honour which was previously only bestowed to Prophets. However, along with the honour it becomes the responsibility of each individual of the Ummah to convey the message of the Qur'an to the rest of mankind.

Ahadith

1. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) ordered us to treat people according to their status. (Muqadma Sahih Muslim)

2. Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) looked at the Ka'bah and said: La ilaha illallah, how pure you are, and how sweet is your fragrance, and how great is your honour! However the honour of a Mu'min (believer) is greater than yours. Indeed, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala has made you respectable; (likewise) the wealth, the blood, and the honour of a Mu'min has been made respectable; and Allah has forbidden us to suspect him of wrongdoing. (Tabarani, Majma-'uz- Zawaid)

3. Jabir ibn 'Abdullah Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: The poor among the Muslims will enter Paradise forty years before the rich. (Tirmidhi)

4. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: The poor Muslims will enter Paradise half-a-day earlier than the rich. This half-day will be equivalent to five hundred years of this world. (Tirmidhi)

Note: The preceeding hadlth states that the poor Muslims will enter Paradise forty years before the rich; this may be in a situation where both the rich and poor have a greed for wealth. Whereas according to this hadith, the poor will enter Paradise five hundred years before the rich; this may be when the poor do not have a greed for wealth. (Jami-'ul-usul)

5. 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: When you will gather on the Day of Resurrection, an announcement will be made: Where are the poor and the destitute of this Ummah? Hearing it, they will rise. Then, it will be said to them: What were the deeds you performed? They will reply: O our Rabb (Sustainer)! You tried and tested us and we endured with patience, whereas You gave wealth and authority to others. Allah will say: You have spoken the truth. prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: These people will enter Paradise before the rest of mankind. Subsequently, a strict accountability will be left for the wealthy and the rulers. ( ibn Hibban)

6. 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: Do you know who will be the first to be admitted to Paradise amongst the creations of Allah? The Sahabah said: Allah and His Messenger know better. He said: The first to enter Paradise, amongst the creations of Allah, will be the poor emigrants (the poor Sahabah who migrated to Madinah prior to conquest of Makkah). Through them frontiers are guarded and in difficult times they (are put on the front lines to) provide a protection for the security of others. When any of them dies, his needs remain buried in his chest, unfulfilled Allah will say to those angels He desires: Go to them and greet them with Salam. The angels will say: our Rabb! We are the inhabitants of the Heavens and from the best of Your creations, despite this You command us to go and greet them with Salam? Allah will say: These are those of My slaves who worshipped Me and ascribed no partners to Me. Through them frontiers were defended; in difficulties they were used on the front lines and security was ensured through them. When any of them died, his needs remained within his chest, unfulfilled. Thus the angels will come to them from every door of Paradise, saying: Peace be upon you for your (enduring) patience; indeed, what a supreme end you have achieved. (Ibn Hibban)

7. 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: On the Day of Resurrection, some people of my Ummah will have a Noor (light) like that of the sun. We asked: O Rasulallah! Who they will be? He replied: They will be the poor emigrants; in difficult situations, protection was ensured through them; when any of them died his needs remained in his chest; they will be brought together from various parts of the world. (Musnad Ahmad)

8. Abu Sa'id Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard prophet Muhammad(PBUH) saying: O Allah! Grant me life as a poor and humble man; let me die a poor and humble man; and resurrect me in the company of the poor and humble man. (Mustadrak Hakim)

9. Sa'id ibn Abi Sa'id Rahimahullah said: Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri Radiyallahu 'anhu complained prophet Muhammad(PBUH) about his needs. prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: Be patient Abu Sa'id, because from amongst you who loves me, poverty rushes to him, like flood water runs from the top of a valley or from a mountain downwards. (Musnad Ahmad, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

10. Rafi' ibn Khadij Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: When Allah 'Azza wa Jalil loves a slave, He protects him from the traps of the world as anyone of you protects his sick from water. (Tabarani, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

11. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: Love the poor and keep your sittings with them. Love Arabs from your heart. And your faults should Stop you from criticizing others. (Mustadrak Hakim)

12. Anas Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard prophet Muhammad(PBUH) saying: Many a dishevelled one, covered in dust, clothed in old sheets, turned away from peoples doors, (has such a attachment with Allah that) if he swears by Allah, certainly Allah will fulfill his words. (Tabarani, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

Note: This hadlth implies that one must not look down upon a dishevelled and dust laden person, as many-a-such are special slaves of Allah. However, it does not mean such an appearance is to be encouraged. (Ma'ariful Hadith)

13. Sahl ibn Sa'd As-Sa'idi Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that once a person passed by prophet Muhammad(PBUH), (and) he asked someone sitting with him: What do you think of the passer-by? He replied: He is amongst the respected of the society; and by Allah! If he proposes to a woman, he will be married; should he recommend (something), his recommendation will be accepted. prophet Muhammad(PBUH) remained silent. Then another person passed by, and prophet Muhammad(PBUH) asked (the same person again): What is your opinion about this man? He answered: O Rasulallah! He is amongst the poor Muslims; if he proposes (for marriage), it will not be accepted; should he recommend (something), his recommendation will be rejected; and if he speaks, nobody will pay heed. prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: This man (the poor Muslim) is better than a whole world full of the like of the first one. (Bukhari)

14. Mus'ab ibn Sa'd Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that (My father) Sa'd Radiyallahu 'anhu considered himself superior to those who were less than him (in bravery and wealth). So prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said (with an intention to reform) him: Undoubtedly you are helped and provided sustenance due to the blessings of the weak and destitute amongst you, (Bukhari)

15. Abu Darda' Radiyallahu anhu narrates: I heard prophet Muhammad(PBUH) saying: Look for me amongst the weak; for you are provided sustenance and help due to the weak amongst you. (Abu Dawud)

16. Harithah ibn Waheb Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates: I heard Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam saying: Should I not inform you of the people of Paradise? Anyone who is weak, not harsh in dealings and behaviour, but moderate and soft; people (also) consider him unimportant, (but he is so close to Allah that) if he swears by Allah, He will fulfil his words. And the dwellers of Hell are miserly, insolent and arrogant. (Bukhari)

17. 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibnil 'As Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) while mentioning the Hell-Fire, said: The people of the Fire are all those who are violent, pompous, arrogant, amassing wealth and property excessively (not giving to the needy). And the dwellers of Paradise arc the weak and the oppressed. (Musnad Ahmad, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

18. Jabir Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: Anyone with these three qualities shall be under the shade of Allah's Mercy (on the Day of Resurrection) and will be admitted into Paradise: (1) Courtesy towards the weak (2) Compassion to parents (3) Kindness to slaves (subordinates). (Tirmidhi)

19. Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: The Shaheed (martyr) will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and made to stand for reckoning. Then the giver of Sadaqah (charity) will be brought and made to stand for reckoning. Then those people will be brought who suffered many trials and hardships in the world; for them neither the Scale (of justice) will be established, nor will any Court (of accountability) be established for them. They will be bestowed with such immense rewards from Allah that people who had lived in ease and comfort would wish that their bodies had been cut with scissors for the reward, it would have bestowed upon them. (Tabarani, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

20. Mahmud ibn Labid Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: When Allah loves a people, He afflicts them with trials. Anyone who forbears patiently, (the reward) for patience is written down for him. And anyone who becomes impatient, impatience is written down for him (he keeps on grumbling). (Musnad Ahmad, Majnia-'uz-Zawaid)

21. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: (When) Allah grants a higher status to a person, but his deeds do not entitle him to such a status, then Allah continues to afflict him (with trials and hardships) that cause him inconveniences because of which he reaches the higher status. (Abu Ya'la a, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

22. Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri and Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: Whenever a Muslim faces fatigue, illness, worry, grief, hurt and sorrow, even gets pricked by a thorn, Allah in lieu of his sufferings removes his sins. (Bukhari)

23. 'A'ishah Radiyallahu 'anha narrates: I heard prophet Muhammad(PBUH)saying: No Muslim is pierced by a thorn, or is inflicted with something even less, except that he is elevated by one rank (in Paradise) and a sin is erased for him. (Muslim)

24. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: A believing man or a believing woman continues to remain under trials and afflictions on his own self, on his children, and his wealth, until he meets Allah in such a condition that not a single sin remains on him. (Tirmidhi)

Anas ibn Malik Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: When Allah 'Azza wa Jalil afflicts any of His Muslim slaves with a physical ailment, Allah 'Azza wa Jalil commands an angel: Keep recording all those good deeds which he used to do (in health). Then if He gives him health, He cleans and purifies him (by washing his sins). And if He recalls his soul, He forgives and blesses him. (Abu Ya'la, Musnad Ahmad, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

26. Shaddad ibn Aus Radiyallahu 'anhu in a Hadith Qudsi narrates: I heard prophet Muhammad(PBUH) saying: Indeed, Allah has said: When I put to test one of My believing slaves (with adversities), and he praises Me (remains thankful to Me), despite these afflictions on him, I command (the angels) to keep on recording the reward for him as you used to record the reward in health. (Musnad Ahmad, Tabarani, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

27. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: A persistent fever or a headache suffered by a Muslim slave, man or woman, will not leave a single sin, even the size of a mustard seed, though being burdened by sins like Mount Uhud. (Abu Ya'la, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

28. Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: For a Mu'min's headache or a thorn prick or any other thing which causes him distress, Allah, will elevate him one degree and wipe out his sins on the Day of Resurrection. (lbne-Abi Dunya'.Targhlb)

29. Abu Umamah Al-Bahili Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: Any slaves of Allah who implores humbly and earnestly in an illness, Allah grants him recovery in such a way that he is cleansed of all his sins. (Tabaram, Majma-'uz-Zawaid)

30. Hasan Rahimahullah narrates a saying of prophet Muhammad(PBUH): Indeed, Allah forgives all the sins of a Mu'min by a night's fever. (Ibn Abi Dunya' Ithaf)

31. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) in a Hadith Qudsi said: Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala says: When I inflict illness upon My believing slave and he does not complain about Me to people who visit him, I set him free (forgive his sins). Then I change his flesh with flesh better than his and blood better than his blood and he resumes his deeds afresh (as all his sins been wiped out). (Mustadrak Hakim)

32. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam said: Any (Muslim) who had fever for a single night, and bore it with patience, and remained pleased with Allah the Almighty and Majestic, he gets cleansed of his sins, like the day his mother gave birth to him. (Ibn Abid Dunya, Targhib)

33. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu reported from prophet Muhammad(PBUH) in a Hadith Qudsi that Allah Ta'ala says: If I take away two of the dearest things (eyes) of a Muslim, and he remains patient, hoping for a reward, then nothing short of rewarding him with Paradise can please Me. (Tirmidhi)

.34. Abu Musa Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: When a (Muslim) slave is ill or on a journey, the same deeds are written for him, as he used to do while at home or in health. (Bukhari)

35. Abu Sa'id Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said: A truthful trustworthy merchant shall be with the Prophets, Siddlqin (the true followers) and martyrs. (Tirmidhi)

36. Rifa'ah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH): The merchants will be raised up on the Day of Resurrection sinful, except those who feared Allah, were honest (refrained from fraud and embezzlement) and were truthful. (Tirmidhi)

37. Umme 'Ammarah Ansariah Radiyallahu 'anha, daughter of Ka'b Radiyallahu 'anhu, says that once prophet Muhammad(PBUH) visited her and she presented him some food. He said: You may eat also. She replied: I am fasting. At this, prophet Muhammad(PBUH)said; Indeed the angels continue to invoke blessing on the person who is fasting and others eat besides him till they finish or they are filled. (Tirmidhi)

38. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: A tree was causing trouble to Muslims. A man came and cut it and due to this entered Paradise. (Muslim)

39. Abu Dharr Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said to him: Look! Undoubtedly you are not superior to a fair skinned or a dark skinned person, except that you excel him by Taqwa (the fear of Allah). (Musnad Ahmad)

40. Thauban Radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that prophet Muhammad(PBUH) said: In my Ummah there are some people that if one of them comes to you and asks for a dinar, it would not be given to him; if he asks for a dirham, it would not be given to him, (or even) if he asks for a penny, it would not be given to him. However, if he asks Allah for Paradise, He would grant it to him. Clothed into two old sheets which do not completely cover him, yet if he swears by Allah; He would honour his words. Divorce in Islam

The Statement of Allah(swt)

Those who swear to abstain from their wives have four months of waiting. Therefore, if they revert back, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very- Merciful,(Quran 2:226)

and if they resolve to divorce, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing (Quran 2:227)

"And set them free (divorce them) in a handsome manner." (Quran.33:49)

"And set you free in a handsome manner (divorce)". (Quran33:28)

(The divorce is twice) "After that, either you retain her on reasonable terms or release her with kindness." (Quran.2:229)

"Or part with them in a good manner." (Quran.65:2)

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "The most hated of permissible things to Allah is divorce."(ibn majah :2018)

Divorce in accordance with the Sunnah: Such a divorce given to a wife during her purity period (the days other than her menses) and on the basis that he has not had intercourse with her during her purity. A husband should divorce her by saying 'I divorce you' or 'You are divorced' and thereafter he maintains her living expenses; and he keeps her in his house for the waiting period (which is three menses or three months) and they should separate after the waiting period is over. This is the best way to divorce. Restoring one's wife after issuing such a divorce is consensually correct, and establishing a new bond of marriage after the waiting time has elapsed is also permissible.

Divorce contrary to Sunnah :Divorce issued to a woman during her menses or during her purity, in which the husband has had intercourse with her; or pronouncing divorce three times in the same session is contrary to the Sunnah.

False or Ineffective Divorce : Divorce issued by a person being forced to do so,divorcing before establishing a bond of marriage ,divorce of a child,divorce of an insane ,or divorce of an unconscious person are all ineffective.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:

that he had divorced his wife while she was menstruating during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle 'Umar bin Al-Khattab asked Allah's Apostle about that. Allah's Apostle said, "Order him (your son) to take her back and keep her till she is clean and then to wait till she gets her next period and becomes clean again, whereupon, if he wishes to keep her, he can do so, and if he wishes to divorce her he can divorce her before having sexual intercourse with her; and that is the prescribed period which Allah has fixed for the women meant to be divorced."(Bukhari 5251)

Issuing divorce during menses, or during the pure days in which the husband has had intercourse, is an illegal way of divorce. This divorce has the controversial status of it being effective or ineffective. It will take place according to many scholars (like Imam Bukhari)and they said the person giving divorce in such a way will be sinful. Some other scholars said this type of divorce cannot take place at all because it is not in accordance with the Sunnah. Imam Ibn Hazm and Imam Ibn Taimiyyah and others, may Allah have mercy on them, hold this opinion

Nãfi' said: When Ibn 'Umar was asked about a person who had given three divorces, he said, "Would that you gave one or two divorces, for the Prophet ; ordered me to do so. If you give three divorces then she cannot be lawful for you until she has married another husband (and is divorced by him) ."(Bukhari 5264)

Narrated 'Aishah A man divorced his wife and she married another man who proved to be impotent and divorced her. She could not get her satisfaction from him, and after a while he divorced her. Then she came to the Prophet (pbuh)and said, "O Allah's Messenger! My first husband divorced me and then I married another man who entered upon me to consummate his marriage but he proved to be impotent and did not approach me except once during which he benefited nothing from me. Can I re-many my first husband in this case?" Allah's Messenger ; said, "It is unlawful to many your first husband till the other husband consummates his marriage with you."(Bukhari 5265)

It was narrated that Abu Bakr bin Abu Jahrn bin Sukbair Al Adawi said i heared Fatimah bint Qais say that her husband divorced her three times, and the Messenger of Allah did not say that she was entitled to accommodation and maintenance." (ibn majah 2035)

A husband is not responsible for a woman's living expenses for the waiting period after the final divorce. If a woman is pregnant, then the husband is responsible for the expense of her waiting period, even after the final divorce. The statement of Allah Almighty is: "And if they are pregnant then spend for them till they deliver their pregnancy." (At-Taliq 65: 6)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "There are three matters in which seriousness is serious and joking is serious: marriage, divorce and taking back(one's wife). " (ibn majah :2039)

The relationship of marriage is extremely important due to which a man and woman become lawful for each other and they accept its responsibilities; and it is also because of the marriage bond that their children are legal. Therefore, many rules were Divinely legislated to keep the sanctity of this relationship upright. When accepting a religious responsibility, or withdrawing from it, one should carefully reflect upon its consequences, so that one will not have to face regret and worry later.

Awazi said: "I asked Zuhri 'Which of the wives of the Prophet sought refuge with Allah from him?' He said: "Urwah told me, (narrating) from Aishah, that when the daughter of Jawn entered upon the Messenger of Allah and he came dose to her, she said: "I seek refuge with Allah from you."The Messenger of Allah said: , "You have sought refuge in the Almighty; go to your-family."(ibn majah:2050)

Some words used for divorce are very clear and manifest, and give clear message of divorce; for example: 'I divorce you.' These words consensually make the divorce effective. There are some words that have both meanings: divorce or any other meaning which is called "connotation." The dear and manifest meanings of these words rely on the intention of the person. If one uttered them with the intention of divorce, then the divorce would be effective, otherwise not.

The Story of Jesus and Mary in the Holy Quran

The Birth of Mary

“Indeed God chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham and the family of Imran over the worlds. An offspring, like one another (in righ-teousness). And God is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (And men-tion) when the wife of Imran said, ‘O my Lord, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, to be dedicated (to Your service), so accept this from me. Indeed, You are All-Hearing, All-Knowing.’ Then when she delivered her (Mary), she said, ‘O my Lord, I have delivered a female,’ and God knew best what she delivered, ‘And the male is not like the female, and I have named her Mary, and I seek re-fuge with You for her and for her children from Satan, the expelled (from the mercy of God).’” (Quran 3:33-36)

The Childhood of Mary

“So her Lord fully accepted her, and gave her a good upbringing, and put her under the care of Zechariah. Every time Zechariah entered upon her in the prayer room, he found her supplied with food. He said, ‘O Mary, where do you get this from?’ She said, ‘This is from God. Indeed, God provides for whom He wills, without limit.’” (Quran 3:37)

Mary, the Devout

“And (mention) when the angels said, ‘O Mary, in-deed God has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of the worlds.’ ‘O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow down along those who bow down (in prayer).’ This is a part of the news of the unseen, which We reveal to you (O Muhammad). You were not with them when they cast lots with their pens to (decide) which of them should take care of Mary, nor were you with them when they disputed.” (Quran 3:42-44)

The Good news of a new-born child

“(And mention) when the angels said, ‘O Mary, in-deed God gives you the good news of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and of those who are near to God.’ ‘He will speak to the people in the cradle, and in old age, and he will be of the righteous.’ She said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when no man has touched me.’ He said, ‘So (it will be,) for God creates what He wants. When He decides something, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. And He will teach him the Book and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel. And (will make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (saying), ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the likeness of a bird, then breathe into it, and it be-comes a bird by the permission of God. And I heal the blind and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by the permission of God. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Surely, there is a sign for you in that, if you are believers. And (I have come) confirming the Torah that was (revealed) before me, and to allow you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a proof from your Lord, so fear God and obey me. Indeed, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path.” (Quran 3:45-51)

“And mention in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to an eastern place. And she placed a screen to seclude herself from them. Then We sent to her Our angel (Gabriel), and he took the form of a well-created man before her. She said, “In-deed I seek refuge with the Most Merciful from you, if you do fear God.”1 (The angel) said, ‘I am only the messenger of your Lord to give to you (the news of) a pure boy.’ She said, ‘How can I have a son, when no man has touched me (in marriage), and I am not a pros-titute?’ He said, So your Lord said, ‘It is easy for Me. And We will make him a sign to people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter (already) decided.’”(Qu-ran 19:16-21)

The Immaculate Conception

“And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed (a spirit) into her through Our angel, and We made her and her son (Jesus) a sign for the worlds.”(Quran 21:91)

The Birth of Jesus

“So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, ‘I wish I had died before this, and had been long forgotten. [Mary was worried that people would think badly of her as she wasnot married.] Then (baby Jesus) called her from below her, saying, ‘Don’t be sad. Your Lord has provided a stream under you.’ Shake the trunk of the palm tree towards you, and it will drop on you fresh ripe dates. So eat and drink and be happy. And if you see any hu-man, then say, ‘Indeed I have vowed a fast to the Most Merciful so I will not speak to any human today.’ Then she carried him and brought him to her people. They said, ‘O Mary, indeed you have done a great evil.’ ‘O sister of Aaron, your father was not an evil man, and your mother was not a fornicator.’ So she pointed to him. They said, ‘How can we speak to a child in the cradle?’ (Jesus) said, ‘Indeed, I am a slave of God. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am, and has commanded me to me pray and give charity as long as I remain alive. And (has made) me kind to my mother, and did not make me arrogant or miserable. And peace be upon me the day I was born, and the day I will die, and the day I will be raised alive.’” (Quran 19:22-33)

“Indeed, Jesus is like Adam in front of God. He created him from dust, then said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was.” (Quran 3:59)

“And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, And We gave them refuge and rest on a high ground with flowing water.” (Quran 23:50)

The Excellence of Mary

“And God gives as an example for those who be-lieve, the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, ‘My Lord, build for me a home near You in paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people.’ And (the example of) Mary, the daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We blew (the spirit of Jesus) into her through Our angel (Gabriel). And she believed in the words of her Lord, and His scriptures, and she was of the devout ones.” (Quran 66:11-12)

Jesus the Prophet

“Say, ‘We believe in God and what has been re-vealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and to the prophet-descendants (of Jacob), and what has been given to Moses and Je-sus, and what has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims (in submission) to Him.’”

(Quran 2:136)

“Indeed, We have revealed to you (O Muhammad) as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophet-descendants (of Jacob), Jesus, Job, Jo-nah, Aaron, and Solomon, and We gave the book to David.”

(Quran 4:163)

“The Messiah son of Mary was only a messenger (like other) messengers that had passed away before him. And his mother was a strong believer.7 They both used to eat food.8 Look how We make the proofs clear to them, then look how they (disbelievers) turn away.” (Quran 5:75) “He (Jesus) was only a servant whom We have fa-vored, and We made him an example to the Children of Israel.” (Quran 43:59)

The Message of Jesus

“And in their (the prophets’) footsteps, We sent Jesus the son of Mary, affirming the Torah that had come before him. And We gave him the Gospel, in it was guidance and light, affirming the Torah that had come before it, and a guidance and an admonition for the pious.” (Quran 5:46)

“O people of the Scripture, do not go to extremes in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, is only a messenger from God and a word from Him (“Be” and it is), which He sent to Mary, and a soul from Him.9 So, believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Stop, it is better for you. Indeed, God is one; exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And God is sufficient as a Determiner of all af-fairs. Never would the Messiah look down upon being a worshipper of God, nor would the angels who are close (to God). And whoever looks down upon the worship of God and is arrogant, then He will gather them to Himself all together.” (Quran 4:171-172)

“This is Jesus, the son of Mary. And this is the statement of truth, which they doubt. It is not possible for God to take a son. Far is He above this! When He decides something, He just says to it, “Be,” and it is.11 (Jesus said), ‘And indeed God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.’ But the sects disagreed (over the straight path), so woe to the disbelievers from meeting a horrible Day.” (Quran 19:34-37)

“And when Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, ‘I have come to you with prophet hood, and to make clear to you some of what you disagree about, so fear God and obey me. Indeed, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path.’ But the groups disagreed among themselves (about the message of Jesus), so woe to those who disbelieved from the punishment of a painful Day.” (Quran 43:63-65)

“And (remember) when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O Children of Israel, I am the messenger of God to you confirming the Torah that came before me, and bringing good news of a messenger that will come after me, whose his name will be Ahmed.But when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, “This is clear magic.” (Quran 61:6)

The Second Coming

“And there is not one of the people of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.” (Quran 4:159)

“And he (Jesus) is a sign of (the coming of) the Hour, so do not doubt it.28 And follow Me, this is a straight path (leading to God and His paradise).” (Qu-ran 43:61)

Jesus on the Day of Resurrection

“‘When God will say,’ O Jesus, son of Mary, re-member My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit (Gabriel) and you spoke to people in the cradle and in old age; and when I taught you the Book, wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel; and when you made out of clay the likeness of a bird, by My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird by My permission, and you healed the blind and the leper by My permission, and when you brought the dead to life by My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from (killing) you when you came to them with clear proofs, but the dis-believers among them said, ‘This is nothing but plain magic.’” (Quran 5:110)

“And God will say (on the Day of Resurrection), ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to people, ‘Worship me and my mother instead of God?’’ He will say, ‘Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right (to say). If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is (hidden) in myself and I do not know what is in Yours. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.’ I did not tell them except what You commanded me, ‘Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.’ And I was a witness over them while I was among them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. If You punish them, they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, indeed You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.”31 God will say, ‘This is the Day when the truth will benefit those who were truthful. To them belong gardens with rivers running through it (in Paradise), where they will stay forever. God is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. That is the great success.’ To God belongs the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them, and He is Able to do all.”

Wife and Husband relationship in Islam

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet said, “If I were to order anyone to prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered a woman to prostrate herself before her husband.” [At-Tirmidhi] However, although some have declared it Sahih on the basis of similar ahadith, some others have declared it weak. In fact, Tirmidhi himself calls it weak after quoting it in his Sunan.

Whenever I ask in a gathering about the above hadith, everyone says he has heard it. But when I ask about the hadith concerning eleven women, not a single person would have heard of it. The hadith about sajdah and the common people’s saying: “A man should kill a cat on his wedding night so that wife should be terrorized to fear the husband,” has done great harm to the relationship of the spouses.

The following ayah in the Qur’an and the hadith of Muslim emphasizes the importance of the husband and wife relationship in Islam.

"....They (your wives) are apparel for you are apparel for them..."(Qur'an 2:187)

"...Women have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses etc.. ) similar to(those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect etc..) to what is reasonable. "(Qur'an 2:228)

Men are caretakers of women, since Allah has made some of them excel the others, and because of the wealth they have spent. So, the righteous women are obedient, (and) guard (the property and honor of their husbands) in (their) absence with the protection given by Allah. As for women of whom you fear rebellion, convince them, and leave them apart in beds, and beat them. Then, if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Surely, Allah is the Highest, the Greatest.(Qur'an 4:34)

“And among His Signs is this that He created for you wives (spouses) from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are, indeed, signs for people who reflect.” (The Qur’an, 30: 21)

O you who believe, save yourselves and your families from a fire, the fuel of which is human beings and stones,(Qur'an 66:6)

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Women and perfume have been made dear to me, but my comfort has been provided in 'prayer'." (ibn majha 3392)

Dream Of Yusuf (AS) A Story of Qur'an

One of the most beautiful stories told in the Holy Qur’an is the story of Prophet Yusuf. It probably is most people’s favorite story from the Qur’an.

(It happened) when Yusuf said to his father, “My father, I saw (in dream) eleven stars and the Sun and the Moon; I saw them all fallen prostrate before me.’’

He said, “My son, do not relate your dream to your brothers, lest they should devise a plan against you. Surely, Satan is an open enemy for mankind

And it will be in this way that your Lord will choose you and teach you the correct interpretation of events, and will perfect His bounty upon you and upon the House of Yaqub, as He has perfected it earlier upon your forefathers, Ibrahim and IsHaq. Surely, your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.”

Surely, in (the story of) Yusuf and his brothers, there are signs for those who ask.

(It happened) when they said, “Yusuf and his brother are dearer to our father than we are, while we are a whole group. Surely, our father is in clear error.

Let us kill Yusuf, or throw him at some place on earth, and thus your father’s full attention will be devoted for you alone, and after doing that, you may become a righteous people.’’

One of them said, “Do not kill Yusuf; rather, cast him into the bottom of a pit, so that some wayfarers may pick him up, if you are going to do something anyway.’’

They said (to Yaqub), “Our father, why is it that you do not trust us about Yusuf, while we are his well-wishers indeed.

Send him with us tomorrow, that he may eat and play, and of course, we will remain as guards for him.”

He said, “It makes me sad that you should take him with you, and I fear that some wolf may eat him up when you are heedless of him.”

They said, “If a wolf eats him up, while we are a whole group, we are then losers indeed.”

So, when they went away with him and were determined to put him in the bottom of a pit, (they did accordingly). And We revealed to him (Yusuf), “You will (one day) remind them of this deed of theirs, and they will not recognize (you).”

And at nightfall, they came to their father weeping.

They said, “Father, we went racing with one another, and left Yusuf with our belongings, and the wolf ate him up. You will never believe us, howsoever truthful we may be.”

And they came with fake blood on his shirt. He said, “Rather, your inner desires have tempted you to do something. So, patience is best. It is Allah whose help is sought against what you describe.’’

And some wayfarers came (near the pit in which Yusuf was thrown), and sent their water-drawer (to bring water for them). So, he let down his bucket. He said, “What a good news! Here is a boy.” And they kept him hidden as merchandise, while Allah was aware of what they were doing.

And they sold him for a paltry price, for a few silver-coins, and they had not much interest in him.

And the one who bought him from Egypt said to his wife, “Make his stay graceful. He may be useful for us. Or, we may adopt him as a son.” And thus We established Yusuf in the land, so that We should teach him the interpretation of events. Allah is powerful in (enforcing) His command, but most of the people do not know.

And when he reached the prime of his age, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and this is how We reward those who are good in their deeds.

And she, in whose house he was, seduced him towards herself, and bolted the doors, and said, “come on!” He said, “I seek refuge with Allah.Surely, he (your husband) is my master. He has given me a good lodging. Indeed, the wrongdoers do not prosper.”

She certainly desired him, and he might have desired her, had he not seen the proof from his Lord. Thus We did, to turn evil and lewdness away from him. Surely, he was one of Our chosen servants.

They raced towards the door, and she ripped his shirt from behind, and they found her master by the door. She said, “What could be the punishment of him who intended evil with your wife, except that he be imprisoned or (given) a painful chastisement?”

He (Yusuf) said, “It was she who tried to seduce me.” And a witness from her family observed that if his shirt was ripped from the front side, then she is true and he is a liar;

and if his shirt was ripped from behind, then she is telling a lie and he is truthful.

So, when he (her husband) saw his shirt ripped from behind, he said, “This is certainly your trickery, O women. Great is the trickery of you women indeed.

O Yusuf, ignore this matter, and you (O woman,) seek forgiveness for your sin, for you were guilty infact.”

And women in the city said, “The wife of the minister is seducing her youthful slave. His love has entered the depth of her heart. Surely, we see her in open error.”

So, when she heard of their taunting comments, she extended an invitation to them and arranged for

them a comfortable place (to sit and dine) and gave everyone a knife, and said (to Yusuf): “come out to them.” So when they saw him, they found him great, and (were so stunned that they) cut their hands and said, “Oh God! He is no human being. He is but a noble angel.”

She said, “This is the one about whom you reproached me. Yes, I seduced him, but he abstained. And

should he not follow my command, he shall be imprisoned and will be disgraced.”

He (Yusuf) said, “My Lord, the prison is dearer to me than what these women invite me to do. If You do not turn their guile away from me, I shall get inclined towards them and shall be among the ignorant.”

So, his Lord accepted his prayer and turned their guile away from him. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All- Knowing.

Later on, even after having seen the clear signs (of his innocence), they deemed it proper to imprison him for some time.

And two men entered the prison with him. One of them said, “I have seen myself (in dream) pressing wine.” And the other said, “I saw myself carrying bread on my head of which the birds were eating. Let us know its interpretation. We see you are a man of good deeds.”

He said, “No food provided for you shall come to you, but I can give you its description before it comes to you. This is the knowledge my Lord has given to me. I have abandoned the way of those who do not believe in Allah, and who are deniers of the Hereafter,

and I have followed the way of my fathers, Ibrahim, IsHaq and Yaqub. It is not for us that we

associate any partners with Allah. All this is a part of the favor Allah has bestowed upon us and upon the people, but most of the people are not grateful.

O my fellow prisoners, are different gods better or Allah, the One, the All-Dominant?

Whatever you worship, other than Him, are nothing but names you have coined, you and your fathers. Allah has sent down no authority for them. Sovereignty belongs to none but Allah. He has ordained that you shall not worship anyone but Him. This is the only right path. But most of the

people do not know.”

O my fellow prisoners, one of you will serve wine to his master, while the other will be crucified and birds will eat from his head. Destined is the matter you are asking about.”

And he (Yusuf) said to the one whom he believed likely to be released out of the two, “Tell your master about me.” Then, the Satan made him forget to tell his master. So, he (Yusuf) remained in prison for a few years.

And (one day) the king said (to his courtiers), “I have seen (in a dream) seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones, and seven ears of grain which are green and (seven) others which are dry. O people, tell me about my dream, if you can interpret dreams.”

They said, “(It seems to be) a mishmash of dreams, and we do not know the interpretation of dreams.”

And said the one who was released (from the prison) out of the two, and recalled (Yusuf) after a long time, “I shall tell you its interpretation. Just send me (to Yusuf).”

(Thus he came to the prison and said to Yusuf “Yusuf, O the truthful one, tell us about seven fat cows eaten by seven lean ones, and seven ears of grain which are green and (seven) others which are dry, so that I may go back to the people and they may know (the interpretation of the dream.).

He said, “You will grow crops for seven years consecutively. So, what you have harvested, leave it in its ear, except a little which you eat.

Then seven hard years shall come after that, which shall eat up what you have stored for them, except a little which you preserve (to sow).

Then there shall come after that a year in which people will have rains and in which they will extract juices.”

And (when this person went back and told the king about the interpretation of the dream), the king

said, “Bring him to me.” So, when the messenger came to Yusuf, he said, “Go back to your lord and ask him, What is the case of the women who cut their hands?’ Surely, my Lord knows well their guile.”

He (the king) said, “What was your case, O women, when you seduced Yusuf?” They said, “God

forbid, we know of no evil in him.” The governor’s wife said, “Now the truth has come to light. I did seduce him, and he is surely truthful.”

(Then Yusuf said), “That was because he (the governor) may know that I did not betray him in his

absence, and that Allah does not lead the guile of betrayers to success.

And I do not absolve my inner self of blame. Surely, man’s inner self often incites to evil, unless my Lord shows mercy. Certainly, my Lord is the Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.”

The king said, “Bring him to me, and I shall employ him purely for myself.” So, when he (the king) talked to him, he said (to Yusuf), “Today you are with us well-placed, fully trusted.”

He said, “Appoint me to (supervise) the treasures of the land. I am indeed a knowledgeable keeper.”

And thus We gave Yusuf power in the land. He could settle in it wherever he wished. We extend Our mercy to whomsoever We will, and We do not let the reward of the righteous people to go to waste.

And the reward of the Hereafter is surely better for those who believe and constantly observe taqwa.

And came the brothers of Yusuf and appeared before him. He recognized them, while they did not

recognize him.

When he equipped them with their provisions, he said, “Bring to me your other brother from your father’s side. Do you not see that I give full measure, and I extend the best hospitality?

Still, if you do not bring him to me, then you deserve no (further) measure from me, nor shall you

approach me any more.”

They said, “We shall persuade his father about him and we will certainly do it.”

And he (Yusuf) said to his boys, “Put their goods in their camel-packs. Perhaps they will recognize it when they go back to their family; perhaps they will come again.”

So, when they returned to their father, they said, “Father, the (required) measure (of grain) has been

withheld from us, therefore, send our brother with us, so that we may receive our full measure. And, of course, we are his guards.”

He said, “Shall I trust you about him as I trusted you earlier about his brother? Well, Allah is the best

guardian, and He is the Most-Merciful of all the merciful.”

When they opened their baggage, they found their goods given back to them. They said, “Our father, what else should we want? Here is our goods given back to us, and we shall bring food to our family, protect our brother and add the measure of one camel more. That is an easy measure.”

He said, “I shall never send him with you until you give me a pledge in the name of Allah that you will definitely bring him back to me, unless you are overpowered (by circumstances).” So, when they gave him their pledge, he said, “Allah is watchful over what we say.”

And he said, “O my sons, do not enter (the city) all of you from the same gate, rather, enter from different gates. And I cannot help you in any way against (the will of) Allah. Sovereignty belongs to none but Allah. In Him I place my trust, and all those who trust should trust in Him alone.”

And (recall) when they entered (the city) in the manner their father had advised them. He could not help them in any way against (the will of) Allah, but it was just an urge in the heart of Yaqub which he satisfied; he was a man of knowledge, because We had taught him, but most of the people do not know.

And when they came to Yusuf, he lodged his brother (Binyamin) with himself. He said, “Look, I am your brother! So do not grieve for what they have been doing.”

Later, when he equipped them with their provisions, he placed the bowl in the camel-pack of his brother. Then, an announcer shouted out, “O people of the caravan, you are thieves.”

Turning towards them, they said, “What are you missing?”

They said, “We are missing the measuring-bowl of the king, and whoever brings it back shall deserve a camel-load, and I stand surety for it.”

They said, “We swear by Allah, you know, we did not come to make mischief in the land, nor have we ever been thieves.”

They said, “What is the punishment, if you are liars?”

They said, “Its punishment? The one in whose saddlebag it is found shall himself be the punishment. This is how we punish the wrongdoers.”

So, he started with their bags before (searching) the bag of his brother, then, recovered it from the

bag of his brother. This is how We planned for Yusuf. He had no right to take his brother according to the law of the king, unless Allah so willed. We elevate in ranks whomsoever We will. Above every man of knowledge, there is someone more knowledgeable.

They said, “If he commits theft, (there is nothing surprising, because) his other brother had committed theft earlier.” Yusuf kept it (his reaction) to himself and did not reveal it to them. He said (in his heart), “You are even worse in position. Allah knows best of what you allege.”

They said, “O Aziz, he has a father, a very old man. So, take one of us in his place. We see you are a

generous man.”

He said, “We seek Allah’s refuge from keeping anyone other than him with whom we have found our thing, otherwise we shall be unjust.”

So when they lost hope in him, they went aside for consultation. The oldest of them said, “Do you not know that your father has taken pledge from you in the name of Allah, while you had defaulted earlier in the case of Yusuf. So, I shall never leave this land unless my father permits me or

Allah decides about me. He is the best of all judges.

Go back to your father and say, Our father, your son has committed theft, and we do not testify except

what we know, and we could not guard against the unseen.

Ask (the people of) the town in which we have been, and the caravan with which we have come, and

undoubtedly we are truthful.”

He (Yaqub) said, “Rather, your inner desires have seduced you to something. So, patience is best.

Hopefully, Allah may bring them all together. Surely, He is the All- Knowing, All-Wise.”

He turned away from them and said, “How sad I am about Yusuf!” and his eyes turned white with sorrow and he was suppressing (his anger and grief).

They said, “By God, you will not stop remembering Yusuf until you collapse or perish.”

He said, “I do not complain of my anguish and sorrow to anyone but Allah, and I know from Allah what you do not know.

O my sons, go and search for Yusuf and his brother, and do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah. In fact, only the infidels lose hope in Allah’s mercy.”

So, when they came to him (Yusuf), they said, “Aziz, we and our family are struck by distress, and we have brought some goods of very little worth. So, give us the full measure (of grain) and be charitable to us. Surely, Allah rewards the charitable.”

He said, “Do you know what you did to Yusuf and his brother when you were ignorant?”

They said, “Is it that you are, in fact, Yusuf?” He said, “I am Yusuf, and this is my brother. Allah has been very kind to us. Surely, whoever fears Allah and observes patience, Allah does not let the reward of such good people to go to waste.”

They said, “We swear by Allah, indeed Allah has given to you preference over us, and we were guilty in fact.”

He said, “No reproach upon you today! May Allah forgive you, and He is the Most-Merciful of all the merciful.

Go with this shirt of mine, and put it over the face of my father, and he will turn into a sighted man. And bring to me all your family.”

And when the caravan set out (from Egypt), their father (Yaqub) said (in Canaan), “I sense the fragrance of Yusuf, if you do not take me to be senile.”

They said, “By God, you are still in your old fallacy!”

So, when came the man with good news, he put it (the shirt) on his face, and he turned into a sighted man. He (Yaqub) said, “Did I not tell you that I know from Allah what you do not know?”

They said, “Our father, pray to Allah to forgive us our sins. Surely, we have been guilty.”

He said, “I shall pray to my Lord to forgive you. Surely, He is the Most- Forgiving, Very-Merciful.”

Later, when they came to Yusuf, he placed his parents near himself and said, “Enter Egypt, God willing, in peace.”

And he raised his parents up on the throne, and they all fell before him in prostration. He said, “My father, here is the fulfillment of my early dream. My Lord has made it come true. He favored me when he released me from the prison, and brought you from the countryside after Satan had caused a rift between me and my brothers. Surely, my Lord does what He wills in a subtle way. Surely, He is

the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.”

Unlawful Sexual Intercourse (Zina) in Islam

Unlawful Sexual Intercourse :

Do not even go close to fornication. It is indeed a shameful act, and an evil way to follow.(Qur'an 17:32)

Tell the believing men that they must lower their gazes and guard their private parts; it is more decent for them. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what they do.(Qur'an 24:30)

and those who do not invoke any other god along with Allah, and do not kill a person whom Allah has given sanctity, except rightfully, nor do they fornicate; and whoever does it, shall face the recompense of his sin,(Qur'an 25:68)

O you who believe, when the believing women come to you, seeking bai’ah (a pledge of allegiance) with you that they will not ascribe any partner to Allah, and will not commit theft, and will not commit fornication, and will not kill their children, and will not come up with a false claim (about the parentage of a child) that they falsely attribute (to the sperm of their husbands being dropped) between their hands and their feet (i.e. their private parts), and will not disobey you in what is recognized (in Shariah), then take them in your bai’ah, and pray Allah for their forgiveness. Surely Allah is Most- Forgiving, Very-Merciful.(Qur'an 60:12)

The fornicating woman and the fornicating man, flog each one of them with one hundred stripes. No pity for them should prevail upon you in the matter of Allah’s religion, if you really believe in Allah and the Last Day; and a group of believers must witness their punishment.(Qur'an 24:2)

Narrated 'Ikrima: Ibn 'Abbas i said: Allah's Messenger said, "When a slave (of Allah) commits illegal sexual intercourse then he is not a believer at the time of committing it; and when he steals then he is not a believer at the time of stealing; and when he drinks an alcoholic drink, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it, and he is not a believer when he commits a murder." 'Ikrima said: I asked Ibn Abbãs, "How is Faith taken away from him?" He said, "Like this," by clasping his hands and then separating them, and added, "But if he repents, Faith returns to him like this," by clasping his hands again.(Sahih Bukhri 6809)

Narrated Abü Hurairah The Prophet (pbuh) said, "The one who commits an illegal sexual intercourse is not a believer at the time of committing illegal sexual intercourse; and a thief is not a believer at the time of committing theft; and a drinker of alcoholic drink is not a believer at the time of drinking. Yet, (the gate of) repentance is open thereafter."(Sahih Bukhri 6810)

Narrated 'Abdullãh (bin Mas'ud): I said, "O Allah's Messenger! Which is the biggest sin?" He said, "To set up a rival unto Allah, though He Alone has created you." I asked, "What is next (biggest sin)?" He said, "To kill your son lest he should share your food with you." I asked, "What is next?" He said, "To commit illegal sexual intercourse with the wife of your neighbour."(Sahih Bukhri 6811)

Narrated Aba Hurairah A man came to Allah's Messenger while he was in the mosque, and he called him, saying, "O Allah's Messenger! I have committed illegal sexual intercourse." The Prophet , turned his face to the other side, but that man repeated his statement four times, and after he bore witness against himself four times, the Prophet ; called him, saying, "Are you mad?" The man said,

"No." The Prophet said, "Are you married?" The man said, "Yes." Then the Prophet said, "Take him away and stone him to death."(Sahih Bukhri 6815)
