Love to flutter those luscious lashes?

I know that we all love to have long lashes but sometimes they can be a little annoying to wear.

So here are four easy tips for easy lashes this week.

4 Easy steps to great natural lashes:

If you are looking for a cost effective way to have great lashes here is a simple and small tip that will have dramatic results without looking like a ‘fa’afafine’. By placing lashes on the outer corners of your lash line, you can have natural but great looking lashes.

From any good department store, you can purchase a packet of lashes that are gathered in clumps of three or four individual lashes.

4 Easy steps:

Start by removing make up and oil from your eyelid and face (then you will avoid getting your glue wet when you wash your make up off. Squeeze a small amount of the glue onto a small piece of paper. (If the glue dries white like some types of latex glue, I mix the glue with black eye shadow to make sure that it dries black to blend with your lashes).

Using tweezers take one of the clumps at the tips of lashes and dip the root in the glue, make sure that there is enough glue for the clump to connect it to the outer corners of the lash line.

Repeat this again getting closer and closer to the centre of the lash line (you may even want to slightly trim the last clump to blend them to the length of your natural lashes).

Brush the lashes with a clean mascara brush/lash brush just at the tips, to make sure that all the lashes are facing the right way (do this daily to ensure that your lashes last longer).

How do you know what kind of glue to buy?

I recommend buying glue bottles with a screw top rather than a pull off lid. This way your glue does not end up drying up before you use it for the second time. I recommend using ‘Duo’ black glue that will dry dark or clear that is more natural looking.

The new Miss Tokelau 2012 Peki Teata has won her crown on home soil in Atafu, Tokelau.

She won against two other contestants and is now preparing to represent her island nation at the Miss South Pacific pageant in American Samoa next month on December 8.

This year’s Miss Tokelau pageant had new activities prepare the winner for the regional pageant.

“We introduced a pre-pageant interview which takes place before the event. We seek to have them prepare for when they get up on stage and also get more clarity to have the right response and speaking from their heart – ask them the question and they’ll come back with a knowledgeable response,” says Miss Tokelau Pageant Coordinator Lihe Suveinakama.

“It’s all about finding the best representative for the Miss South Pacific Pageant who will be able to promote Tokelau and is well acquainted with attitude to do so”

Former Miss Tokelau Hiniva Foua was there to crown Peki Teata as the new winner.

We all know that as Island ladies, sprouting facial hair is not attractive.

But even though we are in the midst of November, the month where our boyfriends or partners are shaving less to participate in Movember, a University student from Otago has decided that we ladies can still participate in Movember without having to grown a real moustache!

20 year old Daniel Goodman, a second year student studying product design, came up with Goodmans Mustache Necklaces where women could purchase their fake mustache for only $2 where the proceeds go towards the Movember charity. Since the establishment of Goodmans Mustache Necklaces, it has been getting a lot of media attention one of them including popular womens magazine, Cleo.

Daniel briefly spoke with Islandher about his idea,

“It started off as a design store brief, but with November on the way I thought I could help out a cause such as men’s health, Movember!”

There are five shapes to choose from: the handlebar, Fu Manchu, Dali, Walrus and Stalin, in which all are made out of laser-cut acrylic.

Movember is a campaign that started off in Australia and has now grown to have formal campaigns in more than 10 countries one of them including New Zealand. The campaign aims to raise awareness of men’s health such as prostate cancer and mental depression which are one of the common diseases that hit men the most.

The Ministry of Health in New Zealand have revealed that our Maori and Pacific Island men are at high risk of contracting prostate cancer and are also the most vulnerable to being affected by depression.

So if you want to check out Daniels store, simply check out “Goodmans Mustache Necklaces” on Facebook, and if you’re feeling a bit more brave and you want to display your “mustache”, inbox Daniel to order your very own mustache. Only $2!

The hair wreath is generally quite easy to make. All you need is some ribbon, string, needles and your favourite pick of blooms.

Plait three pieces of ribbon to create a loop that fits around your head – like a halo.

If the ribbon is still pretty flimsy, wrap a few more pieces of ribbon around the loop to strengthen it.

Once this is done and it sits comfortably on your head, take it off and start sewing your flowers into the ribbon.

Insert your needle and string into the flower stem into the ribbon and then pull to tighten, inserting your needle back into the stem and into the ribbon. Do this about three times along the stem to ensure the flower is firmly on the ribbon.

Continue this step with the rest of the flowers – and voila – you have your own crown of flowers!

Samoa’s sassy soulstress Aaradhna is back with her forthcoming album Treble & Reverb.

The half Indian’s highly anticipated release is on November 9 four years after releasing her sophomore album, Sweet Soul Music in 2008.

Aaradhna’s first single ‘Wake Up’ was the #1 most played New Zealand song last week. The track is a plea to herself, penned around the time she realised life was passing her by and that she was ready to get back in the game.

“At the time I was listening to Amy Winehouse,” she says. “I used to go to her Back to Black album; I’d repeat it all day because I connected with all her music. The thing I liked about it was that she didn’t care about what other people said, and she really spoke her mind.. that’s what I wanted to do, I wanted to make music that I could really say what I wanted to say.”

While the late 50s/60s doo-wop style was present in Aaradhna’s first album with songs like ‘Downtime’ and ‘I Love You’, Treble & Reverb goes all the way with it.

We love the track ‘Miss Lovely’ where she tells a girl she’ll kick her ass, in the nicest way possible saying “I’ll take that pretty smile and turn it into a frown.”

Treble And Reverb is written entirely by Aaradhna, and produced by P-Money and Evan Short.

And.. you can listen to her album til the end of this week through this link!

http://m.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10844896

So happy to see to this soulful sweetheart back on our airwaves.

Ruby Laufa was crowned the new Miss PNG 2012 over the weekend.

The 20 year old is a second year law student at the University Of Papua New Guinea (UPNG).

Her sponsor Fresh Water says it’s the first time they’ve sponsored a contestant.

“From the moment we met Ruby, we were impressed! She approached Fresh Water to sponsor her as a contestant a mere three weeks before the Pageant.

“Her determination and the youth and energy of her committee inspired us, just as we know Ruby will inspire the rest of PNG as she begins her role a cultural ambassador.”

Ruby has Gulf and Central Province roots with Tongan, Indian and German ancestry.

She’s now preparing to represent her country at the Miss South Pacific Pageant to be held in American Samoa on the 9th of December.

Wishing you all the best Ruby!

Pollywood is celebrating 10 years of Pasifika film and multi-media art this month. Boasting an impressive archive of uniquely Pacific work, Pollywood is the flagship for Pacific film in New Zealand.

It’s an established initiative that has been bringing together people working in moving image. The intention has always been to foster the relationship between industry professionals and novice film-makers with the aim of sharing knowledge.

Curated by Craig Fasi, there are nine films in this year’s Pollywood selection. And you can check them out at the Mangere Arts Centre in Auckland on Wednesday 14 November at 7pm. Adults $10 children $5.

Hey hey it’s time for the favs of the week and we can’t wait for suuuuummmer! After some minor technical difficulty (!) we’re back on track and bringing you our favs which include a palette of eyeshadows straight out of a fairytale, our top pick for a body moisturizer you shouldn’t let leave your hand bag and super cool sneakers you will love these holidays. Christmas list anyone?

1. If you grew up on fairytales like most of us, then you’ll love this. Sephora have put out a Disney makeup collection and we just adore their Storylook Eyeshadow Palette. There’s plenty of fairy tale-inspired shadows all based on the original artwork created by Disney portrays Cinderella’s magical moments. The set included colors such as destined, ball gown, glass slipper and a wish. Awww! Perfect Christmas gift!

2. Summer is coming for us gals down under which means your skin is going to cop the changes. Our fav is Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion because it has a fast-absorbing formula that helps prevent and protect dry skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth and naturally healthy looking. Perfect for itchy and super dry skin. We so know you’ll be heading in the sun so don’t forget to get your sunscreen either!

3. Our fashion perve for the week goes to the unbelievably beautiful creations from 8 mountains collection. Their garments completed rocked the stage at Fiji Fashion Week and we gotta say we were uber in love with their creations, not to mention the gorgeous voluptuous models. Head to the FJFW facebook page for maaany more. Pacific women at their best! Vinaka – we like!

4. Songstress Mariah Carey has teamed up with OPI to collaborate with the brand’s new Liquid Sand formula. She hand-selected four of the OPI Liquid Sand shades which dries to a textured, “pebbled” finish that features a bit of sparkle. There’s eight of the Mariah Carey by OPI shades which hit salons in January 2013.

5. The holidays are nearly here and what a perfect excuse to bust out a pair of comfy shoes. Thank goodness the good folk at Vans have a cool way to help funk up flat footwear. With a customised option on their website, you can design your very own pair of shoes! How cool is that! Definitely going to be on my favs list http://shop.vans.com/catalog/Vans/en_US/category/custom-shoes.html#/selectShoe Happy comfy holiday!
