Riders Richard Lang and Phil Grenfell battled it out in Round 6 of the Real Insurance point score series held at Heffron Park this week.

Stretching for the line in a replay of last week, Lang and Grenfell had the jump on the main bunch and although Grenfell pipped Lang on the line for first, Richard took home the Jersey as overall points leader for the series.

This result comes on the heels of Round 5 which saw Lang second to Sky Team's CJ Sutton with Grenfell in third.

Madeleine Oldfield took out the Falls Creek long course triathlon over the weekend to be crowned, not only First Place Elite Female but Victorian Long Course Champion!

A fast bike transition saw her out on the bike in top speed and she soon overcame early leader Liz Blachford. Joined by Michelle Wu they stayed together till the transition where Madeleine smoked it to get out on the run in first place. She held of Michelle and Nicole Ward, both experienced racers, to reach the finish line in first place.

Ecstatic with her win she is looking forward to taking this good form with her to the USA for the coming season.

Sky's train, including Simon Gerrans, Michael Rogers, Mathew Hayman and Geraint Thomas, went to work in the closing kilometres of today's 90km criterium around the north of Adelaide's CBD and delivered both Swift and Henderson into pole position for the sprint.

Tasmanian Ben Grenda stormed to victory in the U23 national criterium championship in Ballarat this evening. The 20-year-old Genesys Wealth Advisers rider proved too fast for Richard Lang (Jayco AIS) and Tom Palmer (Drapac Porsche).

"I'm really happy," Grenda said after the race. "This is the biggest win in my career. I have always wanted to win a national jersey and it feels good."

The pace was brutal early and halfway during the race Luke Durbridge (Jayco AIS) launched a solo attack and held that advantage for 14 laps. Riders tried to bridge across, but the silver medalist at the U23 time trial world championships last year was too strong, holding an advantage of approximately 14 seconds over the peloton.

With three laps to go, the peloton started to reel in the West Australian and Tom Palmer burst out of the peloton to get across to Luke in the final two laps.
Therese Johaug from Norway showed an excellent performance, and attacked from the fifth place and overtook both Follis and Longa and captured second place. Third came home Marianna Longa of Italy.

Well I started the year off in winning form taking out race 2 of the Contact Energy New Zealand Triathlon series.

The race takes place in Whangamata, a beautiful beach resort on the east coast of New Zealand. Lucky I only had to bike 2mins down the road to the race start as my wife's parents live here.

The 2 lap 1.5km swim had some great waves to body surf on, I came out 90seconds down on former World aquathon world Champion Brent Foster and tried to quickly make inroads into his and under 23 athlete Edward Rawles lead. I caught Foster at the 5km mark but did'nt catch Rawles until 30km into the 40km ride, from then on I tried to establish a lead onto the run and came of the bike with a 45sec lead.

The three lap run was half on the road and half on the beach, most of that was on hard packed sand but the last 300m of each lap had some soft sand running so the calfs got a…
Continue Reading

Kate Bevilaqua proved her strength of mind and spirit with her gutsy win in the WA Ironman.

The 32-year-old from Perth stumbled down the finish chute clutching crowd barriers for support, before collapsing unconscious on the finish line after nine hours, 19 minutes on the race course.

Bevilaqua scored her first Ironman win, beating race favourite Rebekah Keat by less than three minutes after a back-and-forth tussle throughout the run.

She had to overcome an eight-minute deficit after the swim, but a strong bike leg put her 100 metres in front of Keat at the second transition.

The pair ran within sight of each other for most of the marathon, but Bevilaqua eventually pulled away and was able to maintain the lead, despite running out of energy in the final kilometres.

“I didn’t think I was going to make it; I had no feeling from the waist down,” she said.

“The thought of the finish line (kept…
Continue Reading

Italy's Davide Gozzini and UK rider Christian Iddon stamped their authourity over the field on the weekend at the 2010 Australian Screening Australian Supermoto Championships at the Collie Motorplex in the South-West of Western Australia with Gozzini taking the spoils for the second time in a row.

Patchy rain played havoc with the riders on day one with numerous tyre changes required during the day. Two of the races were red flagged due to rain squalls, but in the end it was the two International riders who finished the three races in the top two spots.

Gozzini won all three races in a faultless display. Third rider overall for the round was Eastern States rider Rowan Tegart, who certainly made his presence felt with a fourth and two third place on the day.

Although Gozzini won all the races, he hard pushed by Iddon who did everything in his power to get past the Italain, who only seven…
Continue Reading

Chris Sutton sealed the NSW Grand Prix series today with a win on his home turf.

The southside local hid himself away for the majority of the race while his teammates worked hard to keep the race under control.

A succession of breaks were consistently brought back to the peleton and allowed Team Sky the opportunity to control the final lap.

A well organised lead out from teammates Gerrans, Hayman and Henderson saw Sutton well placed for the final sprint to overcome Drapac's Tom Palmer and seal the overall series victory.

SMP shines in the snow of Asiago!

It was the very surreal scenery, the unique and suggestive one and in the magic context as well.

The 7th trial of the 31st Triveneto Trophy was wanted and organized by the consultant of the SMP Saddles Enrico Polo, and supported by the Paduan company of Franco and Maurizio Schiavon brothers.

At Asiago (Vicenza), when the ground is white with snow you will usually find that Alpine or Nordic skiing is practiced there. This time, thanks to the stage of Triveneto Trophy, the bicycles turned out to be the unusual protagonists.

Evan for specialists it wasn’t at all easy to proceed with prudence and to control the bicycles while cycling on the spectacular course of Millepini Park, which was the host to the Giro d’Italia of cyclocross two years ago, with half meter of snow and purely white snowflakes falling down during the entire day.

The winner of the day was Gabriele Mercante from Friuli who…
Continue Reading
