Extract the Font

Fonts come in .zip or .rar file and that is why you have to extract them before using. We have already mentioned how to open zip files in Mac in one of our earlier post.

You can also use Free Stuffit Expander. After extraction a new finder window will pop up. You need to double click .ttf or .otf file. Once you double click the font file, Font Book application will automatically open.

Install the Font

As the Font Book application opens, you can easily install the downloaded font.

Fonts once installed, are organized in Font Book according to default installation or according to user installation.

To access font book open application folder or type Font Book in spotlight to find it.

Have you ever created partition in your Mac? Well if you never tried then here is a simple method by which you can create partition in Mac OS X. Basically partition is done by two methods. In the first method we changed the partition scheme while in the second method  we haven’t change the partition scheme. Let us check both of the methods one by one.

Create Partition In Mac by Changing the Partition Scheme

To create partition from your Startup disk, you need the Mac OS X install CD. If you are not using the startup disk for the process then follow the following process.

• Open “Utilities” from your “Applications” folder and then double click “Disk Utility”. Or you can directly reach to Utilities by Clicking on “Go” in Menu bar on your desktop.

• Select the drive in the left column in which you want to create partition.

• Now in the right pane click the “Partition” tab to start the partition process.

• Select the number of partitions from the drop-down menu under the “Volume Scheme”. Select at least one partition which is required for basic installation of Mac OS X.

• Now adjust the partition sizes by dragging the handle representing the borders of partitions.

• To set the properties, click on each partition and select the file system which you want to use present under the “Volume Information”.

• Now to change partition scheme, click “Options”. Select “GUID Partition Table” if you are going to use the disk for an Intel based Mac or select “Apple Partition Map” if you wish to use the disk to start up a Power PC based Mac, or “Master Boot Record” if the disk is to be used with Windows.

• When you are done with the above changes, click “Apply”.

• As soon as you click Apply, a pop up will appear asking to cancel the process or Partition as mentioned. Click on “Partition” to continue the process.

That’s it you are done with the process of creating partition in your Mac with changes to partition scheme. This method can be used to Mac OS X 10.4 and earlier or 10.5 and later. Now we will check the process of creating partition where you don’t wish to change the partition scheme.

Create Partition In Mac Without Changing Partition Scheme

• Open Application folder and go to Utilities. Now double click Disk Utility.

• In the left column, select the drive which you would like to initialize or partition.

• Now in the right pane, click on the partition tab.

• Adjust the partition sizes by dragging the handle representing the borders of partitions. You can also add or remove partitions by clicking “+” (plus) or “-“ (minus) sign.

• Assign the file type to each partition and if you wish then you can also rename it accordingly.

• Click Apply when you are done with changes.

This is how you can create partition in Mac without changing partition scheme. The above method is applicable for Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

• Open Safari and go to preferences.

We found that setting up an image as desktop background in Mac OS X cannot be done directly because the image which are used as desktop background in Mac OS X are located somewhere deep in a folder. But that doesn’t mean you can’t change your Mac desktop background.

Here is a method through which you can change your desktop background in Mac OS X:

• Go to system preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver.

• A window will open in front of you where on the left side you will see the folder where your current desktop background is.

• To import your choice of images, just click on “+”. As soon as you press it a new window will open to search the folder and images which you want to add as desktop background for your Mac OS.

• Once you are done with selecting the images of your choice, the new folder and images gets listed on the left side. You can now select any image of your choice from newly added folder as the desktop background on the right hand side.

• Mac also gives you the option for dynamic desktop background. You can select the time duration after which pictures are rotated (changed) within the same folder which you selected for your desktop background.

If you dont wish to follow the above method then then there is a direct method too. All you need to do is right click on the image which you want to set as desktop background.

The last option in right click context menu will be “Set Desktop Picture”. Click on it and get your desired picture as your desktop background.

• When “System Profiler” opens, click on the “Hardware” section. You can find the hardware section in left column.

• Select the tab named “Memory”. This will provide you information about the installed RAM in your Mac.

• From here you can check size type and speed of the RAM.
