Are you creative and like to use new & different fonts while making your projects? A well-tailored project is always appreciated when there is efficient typography is involved. Generally while doing our work we focus on already available fonts in the system. The limited options sometimes hamper the creativity that is why you must know how to install fonts. Many people know how to install fonts on windows but on Mac, it becomes a tricky stuff if you have no idea. Today we will explain the process to install fonts in Mac. The process is very easy to understand.

Download Font File

First of all you need to download your desired font. Fonts come for free and paid both.

You can download free fonts from following sites:

Free Mac Fonts

30 New Free High Quality Fonts

Font Fabric

Extract the Font

Fonts come in .zip or .rar file and that is why you have to extract them before using. We have already mentioned how to open zip files in Mac in one of our earlier post.

You can also use Free Stuffit Expander. After extraction a new finder window will pop up. You need to double click .ttf or .otf file. Once you double click the font file, Font Book application will automatically open.

Install the Font

As the Font Book application opens, you can easily install the downloaded font.

Organize Fonts

Fonts once installed, are organized in Font Book according to default installation or according to user installation.

To access font book open application folder or type Font Book in spotlight to find it.

Installed fonts get updated automatically in different application in which fonts are used. This is how you can install fonts in Mac easily.

We have seen that even after removing application from normal method, their files remain as it is in the system. AppCleaner gives you option to not only uninstall apps completely but also you can remove the associated files.

Ever faced a problem where you tried to uninstall a program in your Mac and still it was not completely uninstalled as its folder was still present? Well this is a common problem which we have seen people facing in their daily life. Windows users find it comparatively easy because for them, uninstalling a program completely is very easy. They just have to go into control panel, select particular program and click uninstall. But in Mac, you will find unwanted traces of files left over after the common process of uninstallation.

That is why we will today focus on a process through which we would be able to completely uninstall a program. For this we would use AppCleaner which is a very simple and quite efficient application.

Using AppCleaner is pretty easy. You just have to drag and drop the application which you wish to remove, into dialogue box of appcleaner. As soon as you do it, a new window will pop up which will display the list of files which will be removed. Click Delete to continue the process and you will find that the application is removed from your Mac completely.

This is one method, in fact the primary one. AppCleaner can also clean stuff from your Mac by displaying different tabs like Applications, Widgets, etc. You just have to select an application, click search and press Delete.

Widget can also be removed with the help of AppCleaner. Widgets capture a lot of space on dashboard. By removing them you can not only conserve space but also get a chance to download the new versions or new widgets.

One of the tabs in AppCleaner is “Others” which includes different plugins like Flash Player, Quicktime, etc. If they are not working properly or if you need to upgrade the version then you can easily remove them from “Others” tab.

There is one more feature of AppCleaner which can help you in protecting your applications from deleted.

There is one feature in AppCleaner which works automatically for the Mac user. This one is “SmartDelete”. It detects related files automatically whenever an application is deleted. Keep this feature on and work freely.

So next time onwards if you are facing trouble in uninstalling or removing application from your Mac, try AppCleaner. You will definitely like the results.

Well if you never tried then here is a simple method by which you can create partition in Mac OS X. Basically partition is done by two methods. In the first method we changed the partition scheme while in the second method we haven’t change the partition scheme. Let us check both of the methods one by one.

Create Partition In Mac by Changing the Partition Scheme

To create partition from your Startup disk, you need the Mac OS X install CD. If you are not using the startup disk for the process then follow the following process.

Open “Utilities” from your “Applications” folder and then double click “Disk Utility”. Or you can directly reach to Utilities by Clicking on “Go” in Menu bar on your desktop.

Select the drive in the left column in which you want to create partition.

Now in the right pane click the “Partition” tab to start the partition process.

Select the number of partitions from the drop-down menu under the “Volume Scheme”. Select at least one partition which is required for basic installation of Mac OS X.

Now adjust the partition sizes by dragging the handle representing the borders of partitions.

To set the properties, click on each partition and select the file system which you want to use present under the “Volume Information”.

Now to change partition scheme, click “Options”. Select “GUID Partition Table” if you are going to use the disk for an Intel based Mac or select “Apple Partition Map” if you wish to use the disk to start up a Power PC based Mac, or “Master Boot Record” if the disk is to be used with Windows.

When you are done with the above changes, click “Apply”.

As soon as you click Apply, a pop up will appear asking to cancel the process or Partition as mentioned. Click on “Partition” to continue the process.

That’s it you are done with the process of creating partition in your Mac with changes to partition scheme. This method can be used to Mac OS X 10.4 and earlier or 10.5 and later. Now we will check the process of creating partition where you don’t wish to change the partition scheme.

Create Partition In Mac Without Changing Partition Scheme

Open Application folder and go to Utilities. Now double click Disk Utility.

In the left column, select the drive which you would like to initialize or partition.

Now in the right pane, click on the partition tab.

Adjust the partition sizes by dragging the handle representing the borders of partitions. You can also add or remove partitions by clicking “+” (plus) or “-“ (minus) sign.

Assign the file type to each partition and if you wish then you can also rename it accordingly.

Click Apply when you are done with changes.

This is how you can create partition in Mac without changing partition scheme. The above method is applicable for Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

Due to this varied taste everybody looks for certain options for changing desktop backgrounds and when it comes to Mac OS X, the task becomes a bit difficult. We found that setting up an image as desktop background in Mac OS X cannot be done directly because the image which are used as desktop background in Mac OS X are located somewhere deep in a folder. But that doesn’t mean you can’t change your Mac desktop background.

Here is a method through which you can change your desktop background in Mac OS X:

Go to system preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver.

A window will open in front of you where on the left side you will see the folder where your current desktop background is.

To import your choice of images, just click on “+”. As soon as you press it a new window will open to search the folder and images which you want to add as desktop background for your Mac OS.

Once you are done with selecting the images of your choice, the new folder and images gets listed on the left side. You can now select any image of your choice from newly added folder as the desktop background on the right hand side.

Mac also gives you the option for dynamic desktop background. You can select the time duration after which pictures are rotated (changed) within the same folder which you selected for your desktop background.

If you dont wish to follow the above method then then there is a direct method too. All you need to do is right click on the image which you want to set as desktop background.

The last option in right click context menu will be “Set Desktop Picture”. Click on it and get your desired picture as your desktop background.

This is how you can change the desktop background in Mac OS X. The same method you can follow for screen saver. These are the basic steps for those people who just shifted to Mac.

Few days back we told you how to check the RAM size in your Macbook. Today we will tell you how to find the hard disk space on your Mac. Finding such information out of your Mac is very simple. All you need to know is just the correct method to find it.

Hard drive space actually keeps telling you that how much space is left for usage. But this info doesn’t reveal everything. There is a simple way by which you can all possible detail about hard disk space on your Mac. Let’s see how we can do that.

Steps To Find Hard Disk Space On Mac

Click on Apple icon situated in the top left corner of screen. Click on “About This Mac”.

You will get a new window showing the version of your Mac OS X. Click on “More Info”, this will take you to System profiler.

When system profiler opens in front you just click on “Hardware” in the left side of pane.

Under “Hardware” select “Serial-ATA” tab. Once you click this tab, on the right side of pane you will get all information related to hard drive/disk capacity, available space on your hard disk, file system, etc.

So this is how you can check hard drive space on your Macbook and in fact you can follow the same steps to find the hard disk info in your Mac.

Sometimes for even simple tasks it takes more than ideal time. Is there anything I can do for it? How do I check the RAM size and system information in my Mac?

Slow system performance is mostly due to the RAM size. By upgrading RAM you can easily increase the system performance which you are looking for. But before upgrading, you should first check the RAM size already installed on your Mac. Today we will tell you that you can check the RAM size in your Mac.

Steps to check RAM size in Mac

Go to Apple Menu and Click on “About this Mac”.

Click on More info button to open the System Profiler screen. System profiler will provide you the overall system information.

When “System Profiler” opens, click on the “Hardware” section. You can find the hardware section in left column.

Select the tab named “Memory”. This will provide you information about the installed RAM in your Mac.

From here you can check size type and speed of the RAM.

So this is how you can find ram on your macbook or you can look for system information. Check your system information and RAM size and then you can easily decide whether to go for upgradation of RAM or not.
