I’ve been out of commission for the last two weeks…I was sick and then I was without power due to Sandy. In any event, I was back up and running over the weekend and captured some photos of me in a “run around” look.

After my recent hunkering down, it felt really good to shake my cabin fever and get out into the world.

Uniform Advantage

The hubs and I always kid around about how uniforms make work/school life easier. No thinking, no pressure, no room for error. Instead of standing at your closet door endlessly considering what to wear, with uniforms you’re dressed in 2.5 seconds flat!

In cooler weather, I rely on jeans, leggings, oxfords, and long sleeve tees as my take on a uniform. Throw in some booties or Uggs and I’m set;-)

Dear You, Love Me!

←This may sound a wee bit harsh, but I totally agree with this sentiment. Dressing immodestly can be anything from wearing “too tight” outfits, to ultra plunging necklines, and super mini’s etc. In my book it also includes dressing decades younger than you should.

One thing we tend to do (and I’m guilty of this as well)…is play the numbers game. Somehow we feel better about ourselves if we can just get into that smaller size. And whatever size that may be, mentally, a 14 feels better than an 18, an 8 feels better than a 12, and a 2 feels better than a 4!

With love and diplomacy, let’s face the facts about what happens when we pour ourselves into that smaller numbered top, pair of jeans, or dress. The undeniable outcome are boobs in your throat, muffin top (when your tummy spills over the of your pants, because it has no place else to go), and unsightly/unnecessary bulges. And none of these things are good looks!

Psychologically, that smaller tag size might make us feel better initially. However if it’s not your true size, you wind up looking pinched, crammed, or painted into an outfit. And the resulting adjustment & fidgeting in your clothes all night, doesn’t project It Girl confidence. When you size up to the correct number, you look better, feel better, and make better choices.

Last Tango in Summer

I had a wonderful weekend with the family, starting with a half day from school on Friday. There were several bonuses in that it was a long weekend AND there was no soccer! I felt like Friday was my last tango in Summer, so I donned a fun dress, got outside, and enjoyed every minute of 80° that I could;-)

I love words, I collect quotes, and lucky for my readers…I’m all about the show & tell. I think these words right here (←) are the ish! I shared them with my pinterest community and wanted to bring them to you as well.

Many of you know I recently completed a 30 day Bikram Yoga challenge. It was my first challenge and I was returning from (how shall I say this) not just a summer vacation but a vacation from exercising as well. For your knowledge, Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 postures done over 90 minutes in a room heated to 100° plus. It’s intense and demanding, so needless to say, I was apprehensive about committing to 30 classes in 30 days. I mulled, lamented, capitulated, and ultimately…I committed!

The genius of this statement is that it encourages me to move from thinking to DOING, from conception to REALIZATION. These & similar words serve as that mental nudge I sometimes need when I “want to” but, for whatever reason, I’m “scared to.”

I know each of you have things on your mind…we always do;-p. It’s human nature to constantly think about what we could be doing. So whether you’re thinking about a career change or going back to school, approaching that particular cutie or starting an exercise program, experimenting with a fashion trend or getting out of that relationship that isn’t quite right, becoming more self aware or letting go of old hurts…it’s time to move from thoughtful consideration (& prayer) to decisive action. Stop thinking and get on with life!

I’m so enjoying this Fall weather!! In the DC area, we’re experiencing 70 degree (plus) days and wonderfully chilly nights (that require serious burrowing & snuggling under the covers). And while I haven’t broken out my boots yet, a sweater and/or jacket are quickly becoming a necessity.

After completing my 30 day Bikram Yoga challenge yesterday (whooohooo), I went home, showered, dressed, and celebrated by hanging out with my family. We did lunch, got outside, and enjoyed the weather. The icing on the cake was that I loved my afro yesterday! #naturalhairproblems

For this look, I chose muted tones with these uber comfy olive green cargo pants and this great chestnut brown tee!

I added pops of color with touches of ivory, my orange bag, and my new favorite pink lipstick from MAC. It’s called Snob in case you wanted to know.

Yes yes, I know my flower is bigger than my head…it’s over the top and I LOVE it!

Happy Again

Words, much like actions, are powerful. And when I came across this quote on Pinterest, it spoke so strongly to me that I had to add it to my “Words to Live By” board. It’s a simple statement but it’s one in which I wholeheartedly take stock. It affirms my goal not to let others steal my happiness.

By making different decisions, not feeding into thoughts of doubt & self pity, and keeping a positive attitude, I’m convinced we each have the ability to change the course of our lives.

Despite the petty annoyances I encounter in life, I have the chance to begin anew everyday. I start each day by claiming & reclaiming my joy. Simply put…I decide to be happy again.
