here's what I think

Dior: Capture Totale One Essential

2010-12-02T13:13:00.000-08:00

I used to have a Dior Silver makeup kit. It has six eye shadows, a blush and a powder, a mascara, lip gloss and tiny brushes. It was a gift and I gave it away too. I didn't really know how much it was until I worked for Dior.

I've learned so much the past two months and I already have my personal favorites. The first thing I am very excited to share with you is the Capture Totale One Essential.

Here's some information from the Dior website:

The 1st fundamental age-defying step by Dior for all women, whatever their skin needs. To be used on cleansed skin before any other skincare, day and night. Every day, billions of toxins accumulate in all the skin layers, blocking cell regeneration. One Essential is a new generation treatment with a double-boosting effect. 1. It boosts the skin’s capacity for self-regeneration in order to fight visible signs of aging. Because it eliminates the cutaneous toxins from deep within, it reactivates exceptional cell regeneration: wrinkles are reduced, the skin becomes firmer, the complexion illuminated and unified. 2. It also boosts the effectiveness of the rest of the skincare routine. Freed from toxins and deeply regenerated, skin can much better benefit from the efficiency of the following skincare.

I am in love with this product. I usually break out whenever I try using new products. One essential helped control my breakouts. For some, you may break out because the product will try to take all the toxins out. Just wait for a couple of weeks and it will clear out. You will notice a significant improvement on your skin after a week or so. Your face feels firmer and smoother.

Whats great about this product is you don't have to switch to a whole new skincare line. You can you this together with what you currently have. It will make you current products work up to 50% more effective!

You will apply this product morning and night after cleaning your face. If you use a toner, after
your toner. If not just after you wash your face with your foaming cleanser or whatever you have. But a toner is highly recommended to make sure all the dirt and makeup is removed. Do not put too much product. Pea size is enough! Plus avoid the eye area!

After the One Essential, you may put your serum, eye cream and moisturizer (and sun block during the day).

It may sound like it will take you forever to do all these but it doesn't take that long. It may be a lot of steps but its worth all the effort! Try this product! If you're in the US, go to any Dior counter to learn more about the product or you visit the DIOR website.

I've been Absent for Months... So ...What's New?

2010-12-01T16:55:00.000-08:00

Well, here I am... It's been more than three months since I last said hello. I've been a little bit busy. I've been looking for a job and got lucky before the end of September. I am now a Beauty Specialist for Christian Dior at Macy's here in Concord.

I am loving my job. What's not to like playing with make ups?! Its so much fun and my co-workers are great! Another great thing about my job is I get employee discounts for Macy's and Bloomingdales!!!! Sweet!

The only downside is that I have to be on my feet the whole time. Its the total opposite of what I was doing for the last nine months before I got this job (sitting in front of the computer and/or TV). One other thing is I work weeknights and weekends. That means less time with my DH. But we make time for each other.

Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving. I have a lot of things I am thankful for: my husband, my family, my new family, my new job, my new friends, my old friends etc... Its been a good year. I am so happy and contented with what I have. I couldn't for more.

Here's our Asian inspired Thanksgiving dinner:

Me and my sisters-in-law :)

It was a nice simple dinner. Me and my DH thought we'll be spending Thanksgiving night alone but everything worked out. It's my first Thanksgiving and believe that it should be celebrated with family and friends.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Gardening Novice: Still Learning

2010-08-11T22:07:00.000-07:00

Remember the baby tomatoes from the first gardening blog? Click here if you don't have an idea of what I'm talking about.

The very first pot I planted didn't make it because the kitty cat neighbor played with it. The tomato plant you saw from the first blog was my second attempt. Unfortunately that cute little pot accidentally fell from the table when the gardener was trimming the grass in our patio. I was furious! I've been baby sitting the pot for four weeks and he just grr.... Gotta move on I guess so I planted the third pot.

After six weeks:

So cute right? I just have to wait for some more weeks and I'll transfer it to the Tomato Planter. Here's some information from their website:

The Topsy Turvy® Tomato Planter is the unique and innovative way to grow your own fresh fruits and veggies. As Topsy Turvy® hangs upside down, gravity pulls the water and nutrients directly from the root to the fruit, giving you a deliciously ripe tomatoes! It's simple to use and saves time and space. Just hang it up, place any tomato plant in the planter, add your favorite potting soil, and water daily. The sun warms the plant like a greenhouse, the root system grows and thrives inside the planter. Plus, hanging in the air helps reduce ground fungus, harmful bacteria, cutworm damage, use of pesticides, digging & weeding and backbreaking work. What's more, it can also grow cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, and more, perfect for home-made sauces, sandwiches and salads.

Cool right?

But that's not all. My DH planted sunflowers and me my herbs - Thyme, Sage, Basil, Parsley and Cilantro/Coriander! And these are our babies:

We usually don't put the plant directly under the sun in the afternoon because over the weeks we learned that the afternoon sun is drying the leaves out of each plant. The setup usually looks like this:

The sun shines here every morning so this is a perfect spot for the plants. We put it on top of the chairs because we have like a dozen of kitty neighbors. The sunflower pot has been victimized several times already. Maybe they thought its a litter box. We have two sunflower pots.

See what happened to the other pot. Only one survived:

We also learned that Sunflower seedlings are really sensitive. We originally planted eight seeds in one pot. I was doing my research and discovered that the sunflower plant needs a bigger room for optimum growth. So when the seedlings were about eight inches tall I told my husband to transfer four seedlings to the other pot. The roots are like the hair of a corn cub. So delicate that it broke when we were trying to dig and transfer them. Some got really disturbed causing them to wilt a little and grow slower than the others. Just the other day my DH forgot to put the pot back to the chair. The friendly kitty cat messed it up again! Good thing I was able to fix it right away. They're okay now but look closer into the picture. You'll see that there is a straw supporting one of the stems. It got broken during the "attack". Me and my DH are really anxious to see the flower bloom!

Lets talk about my herbs. I planted the herbs about 4 weeks ago. The first attempt was not successful. I left the pots under the afternoon sun too long. They all wilted. So with the next batch I was very careful. The first three weeks I covered the pots with a cling wrap. According to my research it would keep the moisture and help with the germination process. True it is! The seedlings started to come out as early as the first week.

I found the fiber/pulp nursery pots from OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware). It looks really cute and its environmental friendly. Based from the instructions and information in the packaging there is no need for you to remove the seedlings from the pot to transfer it to a bigger pot or maybe to the ground. The roots grow right through the pot so you can just plant the whole thing to where you want to plant it.

The seeds we bought we're about a dollar each packet. You can plant a lot of pots from just one packet. You can set it aside for your next planting but keep in mind that they do expire.

I am excited to see it mature. I'm excited to cook and use my fresh herbs!

No Sweat Mini Doughnuts

2010-08-07T00:13:00.000-07:00

So I was surfing the net the other night and came across this really enticing food advertisement. It was just a picture of a doughnut, a simple sugar doughnut. I am not a big fan of doughnuts with toppings or frostings. I like it really simple.

I tried making doughnuts about ten years ago. It was too much work. You need to knead and let the dough rise …yadiyadiya…

A few months ago because I was craving for doughnuts at 12am so bad so I decided to search online for an easy no yeast doughnut recipe. Luckily I found one and it was really easy to do! You’ll be eating donuts in 20 minutes! I just made little adjustments on the recipe.

Here it is:

Prep time: 18 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes

Ingredients
2 tablespoons lemon juice (the original recipe asked for white vinegar)
3/8 cup (6 tablespoons) milk
2 tablespoons softened butter (original recipe: shortening)
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Oil for deep frying
Extra white sugar with cinnamon (original recipe: 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting)

1. Stir the lemon juice into the milk, and let stand for a few minutes until thick.

**The taste of your doughnuts will have a hint of lemon after each bite. On your first bite you'll taste the sweet cinnamon flavor.Once you finish chwing then you'll taste the lemon flavor.

2. In a medium bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well blended.

3. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the sugar mixture alternating with the vinegar and milk.

4. Roll dough out on a floured surface to 1/3 inch thickness.

5. The original recipe will tell you to let the dough stand for 10 minutes after cutting into desired shape. What I do is transfer the dough into a cling film and refrigerate it for about 15 minute. This will make the dough a lot easier to work with. You may cut it into 1-inch squares or shape it like a ball. The size will double once cooked.

6. Heat the oil in a skillet. You may use whatever frying device you have. I just use our tiny skillet and fill it half way with oil. Fry doughnuts in the hot oil until golden, turning over once. Sometimes it will turn by itself so you have to babysit. Don't worry it will only take a 2 minutes per batch. Don't burn it!

Drain on paper towels. Roll cooked doughnut in the cinnamon sugar while they are still warm. You may serve it still warm or cooled.

If you're not a cinnamon sugar fan, you may also just dust it with confectioner's sugar and dip the doughnuts in pastry cream, nutella or whatever chocolate sauce you have or maybe cheese. Its all up to you!

I hope you like this recipe.!

Let me know if you have any question or suggestions. ENJOY!!!

**Sorry the pictures aren't very clear. I'll do better next time!

Korean Feast!

2010-08-04T03:14:00.000-07:00

Me and my DH had dinner at KOREA house at the Concord Park and Shop Shopping Mall. We've been crazy about this place ever since we discovered it. You will walk out so full that you can no longer stand up and walk!

The very first time I tried a Korean dish was just under a year ago. I took a short course on Flavors of Asia at the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (whew! thats a long name!) in Quezon City, Philippines. We made fifteen different dishes. I have pictures of the dishes on my facebook account. If you wanna check it out here's the link-->KOREAN

I have always been skeptical about Korean dishes. Learning how to cook it didn't even change my mind. But there is always the first time. Often times that "first time" will eventually be "all the time".

Me and my DH discovered the KOREA HOUSE when Martin (my DH's brother) and his wife Lily came to visit us three months ago. We didn't know where to have lunch so we just drove to Concord Park and Shop since the boys wanted to go to Fry's too.

It was a tough choice between the Vietnamese and the Korean restaurant. Me and my DH have already been to the Vietnamese restaurant. It was okay. Lily is Vietnamese so we were thinking she might like to eat there but she and the boys are willing to try the Korean restaurant. (By the way, the restaurants are just right beside each other. Imagine how we look like at that time!)

This is the KOREA HOUSE. It is just a small place BUT wait until you get your order!

Here is their menu:

click on the image to magnify. sorry the picture isn't very clear.

You'll see that their prices are very reasonable. They have a lunch special where they Bento boxes. Prices range from $7.45 to $12.95.They serve lunch from 11:00am until 3:00 PM.

It was 2:45pm when we got there but they still gave us the lunch special. We ordered four different dishes thinking each item is just good for one person. The boys ordered the Bul Kogi. One Pork and One beef. Lily ordered the San Sun Twi Gim or Fried Fish with Dipping Sauce and I ordered the Jaban GodungUh Goi or Broiled Mackarel.

After a few minutes they sent out the Bento boxes which looks like the picture below along with some other side dishes. At first we thought I think they gave us the wrong food. But NO. It comes with your order! And this is just the lunch special. By the way, you can ask for a refill of any side dish that you want! SUPER GREAT DEAL and everything tastes divine!

After a few more minutes our orders came out. Each plate is good for two or three people! It was crazy! Your table will be full of plates!

This was our first KOREA HOUSE experience.

Ok we're done with the Lunch Special. Let me show you how the regular meal looks like. Almost the same but servings are DOUBLE! And again you can ask for a refill.

This was our dinner earlier. Of course we didn't finish everything! We have food for tomorrow! :)

We never finish all the food every time we dine here but that's okay. They will give you take out boxes! They will also give you complimentary soda as you can see on the picture above.

All the staff are Korean. They are kind of hard to understand so you have to listen carefully. They are really nice specially the lady below. We don't know her name. She will greet you the moment you walk in. She look a little eccentric but she is really nice. She always has a big smile on her face and she will teach you how to eat the Korean way. You will always hear her saying "Seaweed Sushi! Seaweed Sushi". Also, she will always say something to you in your native language. She says "Masarap" (delicious) and "Mahal Kita" (I Love You) to us.

The Korea House is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I LOVE the Broiled Mackerel and Pork Bul Kogi. I am officially addicted to it! We have yet to try their other dishes. I'm sure they all taste great.

Strawberry Thumbprint Cookies

2010-08-03T04:40:00.000-07:00

I never had any formal lessons on baking. The first time I baked was when I was a high school sophomore. Me and my best friend joined the baking competition in school. We both never had any experience in baking and we just photocopied a recipe from a cook book at one of the bookstores near our school. We weren't expecting any awards but we won 1st place! We made Strawberry Thumb Print Cookies. We didn't even had a slight idea what a confectioner's sugar is!

I did not keep the recipe. But I found one online and would love to try it.

Here is the recipe:

Thumb print Cookies:

1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated white sugar

1 large egg, separated

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1cup(130 grams) all purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup (100 grams)hazelnuts, almonds, pecans or walnuts, toasted and finely chopped (See Note)

1/2 cup jam

Thumb print Cookies:Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In the bowl of your electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes). Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract and beat until combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the flour mixture to the batter and beat just until combined. If the batter is too soft to roll into balls, refrigerate for about 30 minutes.

In a small bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy. Place the chopped nuts on a plate. Roll the dough into 1 inch (2.5 cm) balls. Taking one ball of dough at a time, dip first into the egg white and then lightly roll in the nuts. Place on the prepared baking sheet spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart. Using your thumb or end of a wooden spoon, make a indentation into the center of each cookie and fill with about 1/2 teaspoon of jam.

Bake for about 13-15 minutes, or until cookies are set and the nuts have nicely browned. Remove from oven and place on wire rack to cool.

Note: To toast the nuts.Spread nuts on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree F (180 degree C) oven for 8-10 minutes (almonds, pecans and walnuts). The nuts are done when they are light golden-brown in color andfragrant. Toast the hazelnuts for about 15 minutes or until fragrant and the outer skins begin to flake. Remove from oven and place the hot nuts in a dish towel. Roll up the towel and let the nuts sit (steam) for a few minutes then rub the nuts in the towel briskly to remove the skins. Let cool completely. Once the nuts have cooled, place them in your food processor and process until finely chopped. Alternatively, you could chop them by hand.

Note: If you are planning to store these cookies, I like to bake them without the jam. Just reduce the baking time by a few minutes. These cookies can be stored for about a week. Fill the cookies will jam the same day as serving.

Makes about 20 cookies.

Your cookies should look a little like this:

This recipe is quite different from the one we baked in high school. I don't remember buying any nuts for our cookies. But it looks really good so I would definitely try it! Please try it too and let me know if it was a good recipe. Or if you have a good Strawberry Thumb Print Cookie recipe, share it so I can try try it too!

Hope to hear from y'all!

"MUNCH MUCH?"

2010-08-03T04:39:00.000-07:00

Its been over a month (again) since I last blogged. I guess having 0 followers doesn't give me the kind of motivation I need so I can write.

I was browsing my sister-in-law's Facebook account earlier. I found out that she has also started blogging and its all about baking. Good for her! It motivated me to start blogging again. She also said said I should join Foodbuzz. It is a food blog community. You can link your existing blog account to your Foodbuzz account which is sooo great!

So I did it!

I've been planning to create a dedicated page for my food blogs for months but since I don't have any followers I didn't think it was a good time to do it. NOW is a great time I guess.

I love to eat and cook. I always wanna share a great recipe and any good eats I find.
You can find the direct link for "MUNCH MUCH" right beside "It's A Wife's Life Home" on the navigation bar.

Wish me luck and I hope I get at least 1 follower who is not related to me.

29 on 29

2010-06-21T17:09:00.000-07:00

I've been busy (lazy) lately so I was not able write about what happened on my 29th birthday. It's been almost four weeks so I guess I have to write about it already.

Why do I say my 29th birthday was awesome?

#1 I turned 29 on the 29th of May was sandwiched in the 3 day weekend because of the Memorial Day celebration

#2 I went to see Sex and the City 2 with my sister-in-law and cousin-in-law. We had Margaritas before the show too!

Strawberry Margarita from Velvet Margarita Hollywood

Velvet Margarita Hollywood

#3 because of reason #1 a lot of people was available to come and celebrate my birthday at the Malibu Beach

See? I invited a life guard and a lot of people! jk!

We were having such a great time that we forgot to take a group picture... bummmer. So I had to make a collage. This is not even complete. But its will do I guess... :)

I finally met Tita Glo and his three boys. Geo also formally introduced Jessica to the family. It was a great day!

He sits anywhere he wants... too bad he got this oil tar stain ! it looks really funny!

Obviously I was not taking a picture of my DH. :) Nice view right?

I just love this picture...

The water was SOOOO cold. It was ICE COLD! We just took a dip and thats it! We are done.

after the really cold dip in the water...we lay down and went for a little toast under the sun ..

We were already packing to go home when a jet started scribbling in the blue skies... "LOVE IS IN THE AIR"

#4 my mom-in-law prepared a lot of stuff for my birthday and even bought a cake for me

Red Velvet cake...

We Were trying to light the candles but we had no luck coz' it was so windy

After the long day at the beach, Erika arranged a poker night for all their cousins, cousins-in-law, cousins-in-law to be and friends. We forgot to take pictures again! The best part of the night was TABOO! Its a nerve wracking game but always super fun! Its a battle between the boys and the girls. Sadly the girls have been defeated once again. We will be prepared for the next battle for sure!!! Watch out boys!

#5 I went shopping for shoes and some other stuff.

That Sunday we were supposed to go to Disneyland but its no fun if its just me and my DH. Who will take our pictures right? So we went shopping at Camarillo Outlet mall instead which is waaaaay better for me.

#6 I WAS WITH MY HUSBAND TO CELEBRATE MY 29th birthday.

It started this year and its going to be that way every single year for the rest of our lives ... Together on both our birthdays...

A year ago... He sent me roses for my birthday. So sweet.

My birthday could've been extremely great if my family was here too. We always celebrate my birthday in whatever way possible. We have dinner or watch a movie or whatever as long as we're together. I guess I was lucky to have my birthday on a 3-day weekend. My DH's family made me feel at home and very special that day. I am very happy and thankful for that. I am very blessed.

PURPLE

2010-06-17T00:34:00.000-07:00

Me and my DH had an appointment in San Francisco last Monday. He insisted to take the day off even though our appointment was in the afternoon. It was great because we got to spend a little extra time together.

We went to Emeryville right after the appointment. We had our super late lunch and super early dinner at the Public Market. They offer over 20 unique food retailers like Asian, Mediterranean, Vietnamese etc. After that we went for a stroll at the Bay Street. I was actually planning to buy for my favorite cologne at Bath and Body Works but they didn't have it at that branch. We just decided to do some window shopping.

First stop was See's candies. It was my first time to walk inside that store. I've never stated any of their candies too. As soon as we stepped in, a lady gave us free samples! Wow! My husband was so happy of course. We bought just a $4 worth of chocolates which was so good.

After that, ALDO! I was not planning to buy. I was just looking around. I've always liked their shoes and accessories. I was hoping my DH to find new shoes but I ended up buying for myself again.

Here it is...

Purple Hulsey by ALDO

Look how cute it is. It is so comfortable believe me! Pleated fabric upper with back tie and concealed wedge! Its perfect!

Purple is not actually my favorite color but it turns out I have a lot of purple clothes! I even have a purple jacket which I bought just recently. I'm starting to think that it is my favorite color. But... NOT!

I am still looking for the perfect Mary Jane wedge shoes. I love wedges. Its so comfortable! Speaking of wedges, my BASS Alexis wedge sandals is so comfortable. Its like I have memory foams inside my shoes!

I have to thank my DH for the shoes. I love you honey. xoxo

Gardening Novice

2010-06-13T01:12:00.001-07:00

About two weeks ago, I had a terrible sore throat that I had to see a doctor. I think that was the after shock of an incredible weekend (my birthday weekend remember?). After seeing the doctor I decided to stroll around down town Pleasant Hill.

I went to a number of shops then I saw MICHAEL's, the craft store. So I went inside, looked around and found a lot of interesting stuff. Well I tried to control my self from buying anything coz the plan was just to kill time. Then I saw this cute little plastic pot, a Mini Tomato Grow kit which was just $2.

Back in L.A. Isabella, my DH's niece, and I planted a Daisy mini pot. So I basically had an idea what to do with my kit. It also came with detailed instructions and tips on how to take care of you plants so it was a no-brainer. But I'm anemic when it comes to gardening so I kept the instructions.

I placed my pot outside so it can get its much needed sun. The day after, I saw my pot empty! A cat played with my pot! I was so angry. Good thing the package came with extra seeds and the soil was good for two pots. I'm not entirely sure why I had too much soil. The pot I prepared with Isabella came with just enough soil. I just prayed I did the right thing.

My DH loves to water the plants and the grass. Yup! Although we have sprinklers he waters the grass and other plants there because he thinks it therapeutic. Since he was already taking care of the greenies outside I asked him to give my tiny pot a little shower. He then told me that he can see three teeny weeny leaves on my pot! YEY! I really thought I did everything wrong because I've been waiting for ten days already and nothing was happening! I'm so happy and excited! I think I'm ready to plant some herbs!

I'm so excited for the tomatoes! You guys should try it!

The Free Carnation from Fry’s

2010-05-25T14:48:00.001-07:00

Me and my DH went to Fry’s on Mother’s Day. They have a lot of things going on there since it was also their 25th anniversary. They have free tasting of Belgian chocolates, free taste of energy drinks and they are giving a stem of Carnation to mothers and saying “Happy Mother’s Day”. Guess what? They gave me one.

Do I look pregnant? Am I that fat? Me and my DH don’t think so. Maybe the guy who gave the carnation was just being nice and he wants to make sure that he don’t waste any of those nice flowers.

It was really nice indeed! The Carnation is still alive! No sign of wilting. Not one bit. I never replenished the water ever since I put it in the vase.

My brother-in-law and his wife gave us a visit last week. He saw the the flower and thought it was fake! He was funny coz he bit one of the leaves just to make sure its real!

So if you’re planning to give someone a bouquet if flowers, give them Carnations.

Newmans Own Ranch Dressing and my home made sweet tea

2010-05-24T15:52:00.000-07:00

I can't think of anything to eat for lunch today so I just grabbed the lettuce, sliced a tomato and drizzled it with my favorite ranch dressing. For my drink- home made Sweet Tea.

I was never a fan of the ranch dressing. I was a Caesar salad girl. I try other vinaigrettes but if Caesar is available it will always be my first pick.

It was just about three weeks ago when I first tried the ranch dressing. It was the day when went shopping at Big Lots. It was just a 15 minute walk from our place so I didn't bother to take the bus. BUT man! It was sunny that afternoon and I was carrying 3 heavy bags! I was also so hungry so I decided to stop by McDonald's.

I can't spend too much no more because I already charged $100 that day to my gold card I can only order from the dollar meal---sweet tea and salad with a ranch dressing.

Then there it was, the Newman's Own Ranch Dressing pack. It was soooo good! I really can't describe how it taste. If you're not a fan of sour dressings, this the the dressing for you!

I told my DH we need to buy a bottle of that yummy dressing when we were shopping for groceries but it was hard to find! It was sad but a couple of weeks after we were able to get it from Walmart. It was the last bottle!

I'm sure you all have tried or tasted a ranch dressing but if you haven't tried this particular brand, YOU SHOULD! You can get the dollar meal from McDo or just find the dressing from your local stores.

Now let me tell you about my Sweet Tea. I love McDonald's Sweet Tea. It is really sweet though. It doesn't taste like tea anymore! After that day, I've been making my own sweet tea at home. I have two pitchers ready everyday.

Its just really easy and cheap to make! Three bags of Black tea can make 4 liters of Sweet tea. The good thing in making your own sweet tea is you can control its sweetness. I put honey to my tea coz its healthier. It also adds flavor to it.

Now, let me finish my lunch! :)

3rd Decade Celebration and the almost forgotten 10th month

2010-05-21T22:13:00.000-07:00

My DH celebrated his 3rd decade the same day as our 10th month as a married couple (Yup! May 17!). We totally forgot that it was our 10th month. I forgot all about it because I was too busy thinking about what to do and what gift to give him. I was a bit sad because I couldn't do much. I've thought of preparing a surprise dinner. I also thought it would be nice to send him a cake at work. BUT...I got so stressed that I really didn't get to plan anything!

So what I did was surprise him by going to the city. PLAN: Dupe him by asking him to go to Sephora to request for some free samples . It was a last minute decision so I just rushed to the door, waited for the bus hoping he's not on his way home. I was thinking he might go home early since its his birthday. I had to call him just to make sure he is still in the office. I wanted to get there by 4pm but the bus I was waiting for came 30 minutes late! I was in a bit of a panic mode but still hopeful. I got to the BART station 5 minutes before 4pm and waited for the next train for 10 minutes.

I sent him text message while I was on the train asking him what time he will come home. It was 4:15 pm when he said he was just going to finish one more thing then he's going to be on his way. Tic tac... tic tac... how I wish i could speed the train up and get to Powell station in 10 seconds! As soon as I stepped out of the train I called him and ask where he was. He was just grabbing his bag and on his way out. Then I asked him to stop by Sephora at Powell street to ask for a sample of the Shiseido SPF 60 Sunblock. I told him to call me once he got there so I can tell him which particular brand. He fell for it!

10 minutes later my phone rang and there he was! YEAH!!!! My plan worked! I was laughing so hard that in just 10 seconds of the call I revealed my self!

So that was the BIG surprise. I still am pretty sad because I didn't get to give him a present or give him a better surprise. I just hope he was happy... I think he was and he is happy that we got to celebrate his birthday together. Last year I was miles away so celebrate it via web (special thanks to SKYPE!)

So we had dinner at Green Papaya,a Vietnamese restaurant we love in San Francisco. Took the BART going home and bought a Mango Cheesecake at Red Ribbon. When we got home we called his family on Skype so they can join us when he blow the candles on his cake. It was a simple celebration but I was just glad that we are together and I got to greet him in person and give him kisses and hugs.

My birthday boy enjoying his Pork and Egg Roll Vermicelli.

His birthday cake. 1 candle per decade :)

I forgot to mention we also had wine. Yellow Tail Shiraz

This was his request. It was so funny! Of course I gave him his request!

In about a week its my turn to add another candle to my cake. We will be driving down to L.A. to spend the holiday weekend with his family. I was calculating and found out that next year my birthday will again fall on the 3-day weekend again! I'm so excited! We're going to Disneyland!!! I'm so like a kid! I've never been to Disney! A dream come true I guess. I just wish my brothers and sister are here so we can be kids again and enjoy the rides. I miss my family.

I'm sure my birthday this year will be fun but its still different celebrating it with all the people you love. Half of the people I love are half way around the globe. Sad but I won;t let it ruin my year. Anyway we might go home next year or they might visit my next year. Who knows? All I know is we will still see each other and be together soon!

The New Place

2010-05-19T11:55:00.001-07:00

It's been almost four weeks or almost a month since I last posted something here. I didn't forget about this page! I was just busy I guess. I mentioned we are moving to Concord, CA right?

We're done moving and now I will give you a tour of our new place. It's still pretty bare but we already have a bed frame and a futon for our living room. It still needs decors but its not that important now. We can do that little by little.

Let me first tell how different the place is. Its so peaceful at night. I can go out for a walk by myself. There are trees everywhere. And the best thing about our new place is its just walking distance from groceries/Mercado, malls and dozens of restaurants. Mexican, American, Asian, Mediterranean etc...

Its a Latino area unlike our old place. I feel safer here. I think I have to learn how to speak in Spanish again!

Now, lets start the tour!

I already gave you a sneak peek of our patio a few weeks ago. It still looks the same. No lamps or other stuff there yet. I'm planning to plant potted herbs though. I will surely blog about it since I have no idea how to do it! I'm still researching about gardening.

Next is the Living room.

During our first week in the new place we bought extra large toss/throw pillows from BIG Lots which are 75% off. I'm big on SALE items. If I see a CLEARANCE or any % sign, I go running towards that shelf. We don't have enough budget for our sofa during that time since we had to give a big deposit for our new place.

We ordered a futon from Walmart last week. It was scheduled to be delivered yesterday but it arrived Tuesday morning which was two days early! YEY!!! I didn't tell my DH that they already delivered it. I wanted to surprise him so I assembled it by myself. It wasn't hard because its not heavy! It only took me 10 minutes to assemble it. By the way, HE got really surprised! When he opened the door he didn't noticed it. He even asked me " So whats your surprise?". I told him "What? Can't you see it?". It was so funny. We laughed all night!

I know the pillows are huge but we will get smaller ones soon. You have to try sitting here with those pillows! Its so comfy!

Now the bedroom:

We bought the mattress the day after I arrived here in the United States but since we were planning to move out of Vallejo, we didn't buy those big furnitures so we wont have a hard time moving them.

We got this really cute bed frame from IKEA. We had a budget so this one is perfect.(and so girlie! :))

We still need another night stand. BTW, we got that Oak night stand from Craigslist FREE!!! :)

Next, the office.

Its messy as always. A lot of papers and computer stuff. Again, there are a lot of stuff we need buy. For this room I think we need drawers for our documents and office supplies. We have a tiny book shelf but it looks weird and is wiggly so we have to find a replacement for that too.

The left side is HIS and the right is MINE! :)

The last thing is the bathroom/laundry room.

I love the idea that the washer and dryer is inside the bathroom. You can put your dirty/used clothes straight to the laundry bin right before you take a bath! I also love the big vanity counter and nice lighting.

I have a lot of make up brushes so I used my brush belt to organize and hang it.

I don't have a picture of the kitchen coz I'll do that on a separate blog as an introduction to my RECIPE blogs :)

So, that's our place. I'll update you of any changes that we will be doing in the future!

Thanks for reading!

Watch out for my Recipe blog!

The Miracle Anti Blister Stick

2010-04-22T23:28:00.000-07:00

I went to San Francisco today to meet with my hubby. I've decided to wear a plain navy blue T-shirt, a dark jeans, multi layer bead necklace , a metal bangle with crystals, denim jacket and my 4-inch peep toe denim wedge. I wanted to wear my denim shoes because its been months since I last wore it. Also, its perfect with my blue-themed outfit.

I knew its going to feel like hell after a few hours of walking in it. Dang!!! Just a few minutes of walking, it started to hurt already. I don't want to go back and change coz' I'm already half way to the bus stop and I wanted to make it to the 4pm bus!

There was this girl bragging about the Band Aid Friction Block stick on her video blog. She said it was a miracle stick for women who loves really nice shoes! So I told myself I'm just gonna buy that thing and the pain will go away! YEAH right!

When I got off the train at Powell, I walked slowly Yes SLOWLY coz my feet freakin hurts! I went straight to Walgreens, (whom I called in advance to make sure they carry the thing) and got my miracle stick.

The Friction Block stick looks like a mini deo."It forms an invisible barrier, making it ideal for open shoes, and provides an easy, non-messy application" says in the package. The formula should be applied to feet before wearing the shoes. It's clear and goes on easily and neatly. Oh well... Lets try it!

I was really optimistic. I had faith in it but I guess it was just too late. DARN! IT DIDN"T WORK!!! I already have blisters!!! $10 down the drain. I stayed calm because my wonderful husband is already on his way to rescue me. There's a DSW right beside Walgreens. (YEAH!) I was hoping to find a really cheap footwear to replace my beautiful sadistic peep toe wedge. Too bad for me coz nothing there is cheap even if it was on Clearance! When I say cheap I mean less than $10. So I decided to drag him to the chaotic world of ROSS.

My feet was in so much pain. Seriously painful!

Then there it was... FOREVER 21. We stepped right in and start looking for my rescue footwear. We saw a $15 sign! Oh YEAH! God loves me! But you know what? He really does love me because few steps away from THE sign we saw a basket of $7.50 sandals! I was so relieved and so was my hubby(coz it was so cheap!). I now have a summer footwear.

It may sound like I tricked my husband to buy me a pair of new sandals but I honestly did not. I were to do that, I'd have him buy me an expensive one!

I'm gonna give the Friction Block stick a second chance. The next time I wear one of my favorite shoes I'll apply it and hope it works. I'll let you guys know if it does! CIAO!

New Home

2010-04-22T12:36:00.000-07:00

In a week or so we will be moving to a new place. Its a condominium. Whats the difference between an apartment and condo anyway? All I know is we're moving out of Vallejo! YEY!

If you're from the area you would understand why I'm so happy leaving Vallejo. I can't go out and see the sites here by myself. The first time I went out to buy myself some Chinese lunch, a guy started talking to me saying "Hey girl, wazzup?". I totally ignored him as if I had earphones on listening to an extremely loud music. But I had nothing on. He got mad and said "You're so hot you can't speak?". It was flattering but really scary. I was about to cross the street when he started yelling but the pedestrian sign was still on stop. I was praying and praying the whole time. Then I ran when the sign said WALK.

Before I came here in the US, my husband sent me pictures of apartments we can choose from . I fell in love with this apartment because of its Victorian style. Most of the houses in this area have the same style. When you walk or drive down the street you'll see beautiful Victorian houses.

But what I love most in this apartment is the kitchen. The granite counter top, the big gas range and the over the range microwave oven. The whole kitchen is not that big but its neat and again the GRANITE counter top!

It was OK to stay here for a while because I don't really need to go out. I can just stay at home and watch TV all day. But when I need something that's when it gets hard.I have to take a bus because there's no groceries or mall nearby. I'm fine taking the bus. I just walk really fast going to the bus stop so no one will bother me again. I still received a lot of "Hey Girl" while walking but its not that bad as the first experience I had.

I've taken the bus going to SFO, Pleasant hill and Walnut Creek by myself. I never had any problems. The drivers were very friendly. I felt safer when I'm inside the bus. Its just the walking that I don't like.

I'm trading it all for a patio, bedroom side balcony, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, another bedroom, extra storage space in the kitchen and patio, pool and a safer and a more accessible place. It costs a lot more than what we pay now but its worth the price. Shops and malls are just walking distance.

I'm so excited to move there!. I can spend my days at KOHLS or MARSHALLS! I can have my frozen yogurt any time I want! Super YEY!

Our future patio. That's my hubby. He's already planning his smoke breaks.

The Newbie

This is my very first official Blog page. I have been trying to start blogging for years but I can't seem to find the words to say/type. I have no topics to discuss,I have no writing skills and my English is not that great. I guess this is the perfect place and time to practice. Right?

Its been almost four months since I set foot on the soils of California. It also means that its been four long months of being at home doing nothing except cook for my husband (which I love to do), eat and sleep all day.

I currently am a plain housewife. Yes! The plainest of them all! We are still working on my papers so I can't work or drive yet. I gained a little weight and my waist is turning into a jelly belly.

Don't get me wrong. I love being here. I love being with my husband but it gets really boring when you're all alone the whole day, five days a week. I have to find a way to kill time and be productive at the same time. What will write about? I don't know! I think maybe about my life as a wife and our lives as newly weds. So wish me luck on this new task! I hope I'll be able to sustain it! CIAO!
