The city of Philadelphia recently unveiled their new branding, which I am somewhat conflicted about. While it’s hard to argue that the Liberty Bell is a staple landmark for the city, it also feels like a cheap and easy solution to the branding problem. Despite that, it’s not a bad branding.

What does this have to do with our fair city? It got me wondering about what Evansville’s brand was. Where is our city logo? What is our city motto? I reached out to the Mayor’s office asking about this. In terms of of a slogan, we can look towards the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau’s slogan of:

Where the midwest meets.

Ew?

The slogan is pretty bad, but what about the logo?

It’s certainly official looking.

I understand Evansville isn’t the largest city in the state of Indiana, but I do think we can do better than a boring seal and a cheesy midwest-centric slogan. I’m not a designer or artist, so I’m hesitant to make any suggestions, but it seems like the kind of project that the city could get around. Or perhaps I am just wishfully thinking Evansville is bigger than it really is.

Sometimes you are out at a local bar or restaurant, and catch the eye of something across the room. You might even pick up a conversation with the person and hit it off. So much for journalistic integrity I guess. If fear-based news teases aren’t going to pay the bills, McDonalds will.

The city will pay $150,000 for an art gallery and a studio at 56 and 58 Adams Ave. and work with the Alhambra’s board of directors to provide the space for bathrooms, dressing rooms, meeting rooms or, perhaps, a black-box theater to attach to the historical Haynie’s Corner theater…The goal is to donate the property as part of a revitalized Alhambra project, considered the anchor for the Haynie’s Corner Arts District.

One of my favorite buildings in Evansville looks like it’s one step closer to restoration.

The goal of the Indiana Channel going forward is to air content that is relevant to Indiana residents as well as to share locally produced content amongst the member stations. It’s possible that shows like WNIN’s Newsmakers will have the opportunity to reach audiences in Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis or elsewhere around the state.
