I’m an avid Twitter user. In my Courier & Press column this week, I will be talking about how I use Twitter for keeping track of mainstream news. As part of that, I mentioned two Twitter lists I use to keep track of what’s happening around Evansville. Lists is a new feature of Twitter that allows you to group Twitter accounts in any way you desire. You can create subgroups that contain your work colleagues, friends, or celebrities. As Twitter allows you to subscribe to other people’s lists, you can also follow the lists as well.

Evansville Food — Accounts for local restaurants.

If you find an account I’m missing or have other ideas for useful local lists, let me know in the comments.

The city of Philadelphia recently unveiled their new branding, which I am somewhat conflicted about. While it’s hard to argue that the Liberty Bell is a staple landmark for the city, it also feels like a cheap and easy solution to the branding problem. Despite that, it’s not a bad branding.

What does this have to do with our fair city? It got me wondering about what Evansville’s brand was. Where is our city logo? What is our city motto? I reached out to the Mayor’s office asking about this. In terms of of a slogan, we can look towards the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau’s slogan of:

Where the midwest meets.

Ew?

The slogan is pretty bad, but what about the logo?

It’s certainly official looking.

I understand Evansville isn’t the largest city in the state of Indiana, but I do think we can do better than a boring seal and a cheesy midwest-centric slogan. I’m not a designer or artist, so I’m hesitant to make any suggestions, but it seems like the kind of project that the city could get around. Or perhaps I am just wishfully thinking Evansville is bigger than it really is.

Craigslist is a centralized network of online community classifieds, job postings, personals and more started by a guy named Craig. Evansville has had its own Craigslist site for a few years now and one of it’s most useful features is missed connections

Sometimes you are out at a local bar or restaurant, and catch the eye of something across the room. You might even pick up a conversation with the person and hit it off. Unfortunately, the night ends without you getting contact information: sometimes not even a name. That’s where craigslist comes in and It’s Evansville come in. To help you out, we periodically spot some of the missed connections that are posted locally, and hopefully help some poor guy or gal out in their attempts to find true love.

You were wearing a drawstring, light colored patterned dress with really cute stripper heels.
Later, as I was dancing, minding my own business, your claws grabbed my ass and (literally) pulled me into your orgy.

You grabbed my [REDACTED] (and smiled, which freaked me out), made me put my hands I really didn’t want them to [ever] go and ATTEMPTED to plant a big, slobbery, tongue-filled kiss right on my lips.
I was definitely not feeling attracted to you at this point, so I ducked my head and avoided catching your mouth herpes.
Needless to say, you shunned me from your dance orgy as I guess I didn’t pass your little come-be-in-our-real-orgy-later-when-we-get-home by not kissing you.
I can’t say that I’m upset about that.
Later in the night you were dancing on yet another of my gay friends and instead of kissing him, you decided to untie your drawstring and get almost buck-ass naked on the dancefloor.
Where’d you buy your underwear? I thought they were cute.
You looked like an anorexic person and I’m pretty sure I caught a whiff of your [REDACTED].
You should put more layers on.

In conclusion,
I thank you for making my first time at a gay bar extremely memorable.
If you ever want to meet up again and give me herpes for real this time, I think you know how to contact me.
Until then, please keep your clothes on, and your [REDACTED] off of my friend.
Sincerely,
the “girl with the boots”

Looking for something fun and different to do in Evansville? We’re getting a Hookah bar on the East side. What’s Hookah? It’s an Indian water pipe for smoking varieties of tobaccos, fruits and I’m sure other types of goods.

The new place, Charazad Hookah Lounge, will be located in the strip mall behind Acropolis and GD Ritzys. The location is a bit of a turnoff to me, as I’d rather something like this in the downtown area, but the foot traffic of the east side is hard to beat.

Charazad will open in about a month, so be sure to check it out.

WNIN, the fine public radio television and radio station that puts me on the air each week, is expanding its television offerings to include content from The Indiana Channel, a new collaboration between the eight Indiana PBS stations that comprise IPBS.

The goal of the Indiana Channel going forward is to air content that is relevant to Indiana residents as well as to share locally produced content amongst the member stations. It’s possible that shows like WNIN’s Newsmakers will have the opportunity to reach audiences in Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis or elsewhere around the state.

You can check out the content from 3PM to 6PM on WNIN digital channel 9.2.

Mitch Albom, the author of “Tuesdays with Morrie_ and The Five People You Meet in Heaven is coming to the University of Southern Indiana Oct. 21 to deliver USI’s Fall Lecture. Albom has a new book out called Have a Little Faith, which chronicles his his eight year relationship with a rabbi who asked Albom to deliver his eulogy.

I read Tuesdays With Morrie, but I remember Albom more for his questionable journalistic ethics in writing a column about a Michigan game two days before it happened. I guess that’s what reading Deadspin does to you.
