Is it proper to say “Happy Labor Day”?

What are you doing with your long weekend? Amazingly, I don’t have to work, not a single day! My husband’s sisters flew into town to visit and we are just taking it easy, visiting. It does seem that we’ve eaten an awful lot, I even skipped lunch and STILL feel that I ate a ton today. My husband truly loves to cook for company and he only knows how to cook in massive quantities, so my frig is now full and I hope to save some of it by moving it into the freezer. I may not have to cook for a whole week!

So, Happy Labor Day!

School Has Started

Today is the beginning of a whole new adventure. Today, my daughter begins her Freshman year of high school!

She was up bright and early, dressed before the sun came up, wearing the outfit she had chosen weeks earlier. She is so thrilled to be wearing those new shoes! The excitement was almost overwhelming and she was ready to go before I even had time to turn on the coffee pot.

We headed out the door, her in her shiny new clothes and shoes, me, looking like I wanted to go back to bed! We drove off and headed to her friends house to pick her up. I don’t think either one of them had slept much, they were both too excited. Minutes later I was dropping them off at the doors of the school. They never looked back.

A Homeless Man’s Funeral

A homless Man’s Funeral

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the Kentucky back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn’t stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man. And as I played ‘Amazing Grace’, the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full. As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “I never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”

Apparently I’m still lost………….

Band Registration

Today is Marching Band Registration. My daughter is a freshman this year and so this will be our first time through. I’m bringing the check book because it’s going to cost hundreds of dollars today!

We have the instrument rental, $100.

My daughter and I spent the night in Memphis, Tennessee about2 years ago on our way to Kentucky. Softball Finger

My daughter injured her middle finger last night while at softball practice. They were doing infield grounder practices and the grounder that came her way took a funny hop in the dirt. It jammed her finger pretty good. We don’t think it’s broken, but I took her to the doctor anyway just to be sure. They took x-rays and now we’re just waiting for the results. In the mean time, she’s wearing a finger splint.

Vacation

Well, not really a vacation, but we did manage to finally get out to California to see our newest grandbaby. We spent 4 days out there and very much enjoyed ourselves. We even managed to spend a day at the beach in Santa Monica and the water felt fabulous. I’ve taken a few extra days off and plan to get a little painting done in our kitchen.
