I am following a lot of great websites through my Google Reader and I often share items which automatically become available on my Google Buzz page and also here on my blog. I think this is a great way to share interesting articles with some of my friends who also share some links with me and in most cases they are really worth it. Recently, I started thinking that I should give higher publicity to those links I find and also share them in my Twitter account. After short research, I found out the most popular and obvious solution out there: TwitterFeed. It is very easy to plug it into Twitter and configure it. In general, it is a great service, but there are a couple of small issues – TwitterFeed is not instant, the minimum interval it will push your posts to Twitter is 30 minutes, and I couldn’t find a way to use tags in my posts, which I find to be crippling for my Tweets. After some more research I found out that FeedBurner, which is now owned by Google (which makes it an even more lucrative tool) allows you to create custom feed and connect it with your Twitter. It has hash tags and is instant, and is Google, so you don’t need to use a third party service.

FeedBurner was recently acquired and it still has its non-Google interface, therefore it is not yet very intuitive, so I wrapped couple of screenshots to show you the basic steps:

Step 1: Find your Google Reader shared items RSS link

You need to go to your Google Reader Shared items page and follow the link to the far right called “sharing settings”

At the bottom of the Shared settings page there is a section called “Choose a custom URL” copy that URL and open it.

Now you are looking at your Google Reader Shared items profile. On the right you will notice a link to your own RSS feed. This is the link we were looking for. Copy it and lets move to FeedBurner.

Step 2: Create a feed in FeedBurner

Open feedburner.google.com and login with your Google credentials. On the first welcome screen you will notice the form which creates a new feed. Paste your RSS feed link and click Next. Follow through the steps until you create you FeedBurner feed.

Once your feed is ready, open it and go the Socialize page located under the Publicize tab. From there you can add your Twitter account through OAuth and configure how the messages will be published in Twitter.

When donce click Activate at the bottom and your are ready to share your items with Twitter.

Padrino The Godfather of Sinatra

Padrino is a little cute framework building on top of the already proven Sinatra. Although the name sounds innocent it is actually translated as The Godfather, and I guess it is the Godfather of Sinatra (couldn’t avoid the pun). Padrino brings further the ideas behind Sinatra. Keeping the simplicity with which Sinatra is famous of, but bringing the power of helpers and generators.

Padrino is quickly gaining speed and building a community around itself. The creators Nathan Esquenazi, DAddYE and Arthur Chiu are working hard answer any requests for improvements or issues with the framework. Nathan is especially responsive and very active at StackOverflow and Padrino’s IRC channel #padrino @ irc.freenode.net

I am very curious about Padrino and will definitely recommend you to spend some time playing with as it has a great potential. A good place to start is to take a peek at the User Guide. Then watch the Screencast and download the Sample Blog application
