A shopping and fashion blog based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Find out about the next sample sale or browse cool fashions, accessories and gadgets. It's basically about shopping, fashion and Toronto. The main concept is that I talk about things "I want" and things "I got". However, there are many other facets to the site: Geekiviews: Product reviews, Ask a Geek, GTA sample and warehouse sale notification, Fashion show reviews (Toronto, NYC, London, Milan, Paris) and Toronto Events

On Friday May 24 and Saturday May 25, the Textile Museum of Canada will host its 18th annual More Than Just a Yardage Sale. Organized and run by the Museum’s Volunteer Association, the Sale raises significant funds in support of the Museum’s collections, exhibitions and public programs.

Continually expanding in scale, the More Than Just a Yardage Sale has become a not-to-be-missed event for textile and craft enthusiasts across the GTA. Supported by year-round generous donations, the sale features an abundant selection of dressmaking and decorator fabric, household and vintage linens, quilting supplies, patterns, yarn, beads, buttons and books – even traditional costume – all at bargain prices.

One of the Museum’s largest fundraisers, the annual event is entirely dependent upon the time, talent and energy of the TMC Volunteer Association which contributes over 15,000 hours to the Museum annually – the equivalent of 8 full time positions. A team of over 120 volunteers brings the event to fruition, working year-round to gather, sort and price donations, as well as managing the sale.

The 18th annual More Than Just a Yardage Sale will be held in tents temporarily installed in the parking lot adjacent to the Textile Museum of Canada at 55 Centre Avenue, Toronto (St. Patrick subway station at University Avenue and Dundas Street). The sale runs from 11 am – 6 pm on Friday, May 24 and 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday May 25. Admission to the sale is free. Regular Museum hours apply.

If you were at WMCFW in Toronto this year you might have seen me with a camera entourage. Or you might have seen me doing an on camera interview backstage. The program InnerSPACE on the SPACE channel asked me take part in a segment about fashion bloggers along with Stefania Yarhi and Nathalie Atkinson.

SPACE’s flagship show, InnerSPACE is a daily entertainment talk show that covers film, television, video games, technology, comic books, gadgets, and all things genre. Hosted by Ajay Fry, Cynthia Loyst and Teddy Wilson, InnerSPACE takes its audience behind the velvet rope by giving them VIP access to the people, places, and things inside genre that they’ve grown to love.

InnerSPACE: Rise of the Fashion Blogger

The segment is called “Rise of the Fashion Blogger”.

Fashion reporting has changed in recent years with the introduction of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. If you have a device and an opinion, fashion can be instantly accessible to the masses.(source)

The video doesn’t allow embedding so here is the link where you can check it out on SPACE.ca. Watch InnerSPACE: Rise of the Fashion Blogger. InnerSPACE also had an In Studio interview with Jeanne Beker which was its own segment. You check out the link on SPACE.ca Watch Jeanne Beker in Studio.

I haven’t watch the segment yet. I love being on camera, it comes pretty naturally. However, I don’t enjoy watching the final product. I guess I’m too self conscious or too much of a perfectionist that the experience is always jarring. I’ll get around to watching this eventually, I always do in the end.

In other words, in the long-term, sales of product simply can’t be the primary strategic purpose or metric for the store.tags: Retail Trends Flagship Stores Online

A Bit of Clay on the Skin: New Ceramic Jewellery explores the appeal of ceramics, especially porcelain, in jewellery. Organized by the Fondation d’Entreprise Bernardaud and curated by the renowned German-born goldsmith and jewellery artist Monika Brugger, the exhibition showcases the versatility and allure of the medium, which can be modeled or cast, used alone or with metal, wood, and stone, and vary in color and texture.

The exhibition presents 140 works and features the work of 20 cutting-edge jewellery artists, including creations by such notables as Peter Hoogeboom (The Netherlands), Ted Noten (The Netherlands), Gésine Hackenberg (Germany), Marie Pendariès (Spain), and Shu-Lin Wu (Taiwan). While some make reference to traditional jewellery in materials and symbolism, others altogether redefine it in substance, form, and matter.

It’s National Denim Day on May 14, 2013 and Canadian denim giant, Bluenotes is continuing it’s participation in the event. Bluenotes will donate $1 for every denim purchase across the country during the week of May 14, 2013

Leading Canadian denim philanthropists Bluenotes will donate a portion of proceeds from each denim purchase nationwide from May 13 to May 19, 2013 in partnership with National Denim Day to the fight against breast cancer. Benefitting the CURE Foundation, the fundraiser advocates education and awareness through wearing and purchasing jeans.

“Bluenotes’ goal is to bring attention to today’s youth about social and charitable issues through fashion,” says Royal Nasager, Director of Marketing at Bluenotes. “We want to foster tomorrow’s concerned, caring and informed citizens. Our work with National Denim Day is a natural fit.”

Royal Nasager from Bluenotes invited me to the Eaton Centre store to talk about Denim Day and reintroduce me to the brand. I haven’t purchased anything from Bluenotes in probably 15 years and I can’t remember that last time I even walked through the store. The invite intrigued me for two reasons. First reason was the name Royal. It seems shallow but I opened the envelope, looked at the invite, scratched my head and thought “This dude’s name is Royal. This is blowing my mind. I must meet him just to satisfy my catlike curiosity.” The second reason had curiosity at its core too. I’m curious about Bluenote’s business. They are one part of the massive Toronto based apparel manufacturer, YM Inc.. Bluenotes alone has 120 stores across the country and they’ve been around since 1984. Bluenotes operated under the name Thriftys until 2004. I’m a child of the 70s that grew up in Richmond Hill, prime target for the Thriftys brand. My curiosity about Royal was satiated. He’s a very lovely man. He talked to me about National Denim Day and the company’s history of charity work. I didn’t ask many questions about company operations, there wasn’t much time as I was on lunch.

Royal asked me the dreaded question, “So, when is the last time you walked into a Bluenotes store.” I answered it truthfully which was I couldn’t remember. Royal gave me a $100 gift card and said let’s get reintroduced. He also walked me through the many, many styles of denim available. Every style you can think represented in a number of washes. Bluenotes is taking advantage of the printed and colourful denim trend with a range of colours and prints available. (We stuck to the Women’s side, sorry Guys). Denim at Bluenotes retails for $20 – $39.50 making it very affordable for their 14 – 24 demographic.

Right To Play Gala 2013 – Wearing Bluenotes, Greta Constantine and Nine West

I ended up with two pairs of jeans from their curvy line, a sleeveless button up shirt and a cropped denim jacket. I liked a lot of other printed and coloured skinny styles but they aren’t really made to fit my thighs and butt. The denim jacket is my favourite piece. I needed a cropped jacket as I lost my favourite one a few years ago. The idea of getting a denim jacket again was bopping around in my head so it worked out perfect. I haven’t worn anything but the jacket as of yet. I wore it to the Right to Play Gala last Friday.

Bluenotes aren’t going to replace my Hudson’s anytime soon. They are my go to denim and the brand I tend to wear the most often. I like my denim fabric to have a heavier weight than Bluenotes. I’m a bit of a snob about denim manufactured in the States too. I hope YM Inc.is one of the companies getting involved in the Bangladesh Factory Safety Pact.
