Race of netbooks is just going on and on, Gateway has launched its 10.1-inch wide display compact notebook, the LT2000. It include 1GB of RAM, a hard drive of 160GB, three 2.0 USB ports, a webcam and its basic ability to connect to internet. LT2000 seems to be like every other netbook.

But now we want to have something different in these mini-machines beside it tag price. But to know all about it we have the specs and some views of images, so let have look on it.

If we see its images, it seems to us like other netbooks. Not so much designed work, seems that an awesome robot is packed in a box. If we not compare it with Optimus Prime of netbook then it seems a nice design. The machine include a 1.6 GHz N270 Atom Processor, 1GB RAM and Hard Drive of 160GB. Weak point is its 3-cell battery that only make the LT2000 availble to you for three hours. We have such machine (like Toshiba NB205-310) in market that will not cost you more than $300 and they will last with you more than three hours.

The LT2000 netbooks available with pre-installed Windows XP and other software. Some free Microsoft application are also there for work. Trial version of bloatware Office Home and Student 2007 are also included in the Gateway LT2000.

A less unique function is the multi-gesture touchpad, which enables user to easily navigate through web pages, music and media. And this function is also not entirely unique, as many other machines of different vendors have the same quality. Acer’s Aspire AS5536 has the same feature.

The LT2000 netbooks are available in both Cherry Red and NightSky Black.

Arjan Van de Ven and Auke Kok the two Linux developer at Intel’s open Source Center had demonstrated booting Linux system in five seconds. They demonstrated at Asus EEE PC that had a solid state storage both developers beaten the 5 seconds time by loading 2 soft wares Fedora and Moblin. They demonstrated that in front of audience.

Now question is that how they did that? According to Arjan it starts with right attitude, that doesn’t mean booting faster, its only about booting in 5 seconds. Its better to set a time budget for whole system rather than saving seconds here and there and every step of the boot should have to be complete in allocated time.

Nothing can be skipped while booting because Booting means making CPU and disk idle. That 5 second booting time did not include bringing up the network but that includes starting Network Manager. Arjan said that a conventional hard disk in a system take more time for start up, he has run the same load on a ThinkPad which taken 10 second time.

Fedora takes 45 seconds from power on to GNOME Display Manager log in screen. Boot Chart tool gives some details about that. In Boot chart figure 1 of Fedora boot, that figure shows the system is doing some time wasting things. It takes a whole 1-second in starting and checking the loopback device to see if all the network interfaces on the system are loopback. Then 2 seconds to start “send mail”. For that Arjan suggested for the common laptop use case that user can simply run ssmtp server instead of SMTP server, which is used only for outgoing mail.

There was another time consuming process of Fedora that’s setroubleshooted, which is a useful tool for finding problems with Security Enhanced Linux configuration. That took 5 seconds. Fedora can’t be blamed for everything there is some other upstream project, which makes delay also. In order to build keyboard mappings the X Window System runs the C preprocessor and compiler on startup

In figure 2 it’s shown Ubuntu’s boot is almost same also just two seconds short. It taken 12 seconds running modprobe running a shell running modprobe, which ended up loading a single module. The tool for adding license-restricted drivers takes 2.5 seconds on system and to display the background image Ubuntu’s GDM takes more 2.5 seconds of CPU time.

Both distributions shows splash screens. Arjan and Auke agreed that they hate splash screens. Because they want it done before you see it. The Intel team’s booting time was less than the development time that distributions spend on splash screen.

How they did it: the kernel

In step one the kernel started in 1 second including all modules. Background tasks and init scripts started in another second. In 3rd second X started and next two seconds desktop environments taken.

In half second kernel have to be built without initrd. Same like that all module required for boot must be built into kernel. Arjan said that with a handful of modules you cover 95% of laptops out there he also suggested building initrd based image to cover the remaining 5%.

Some subsystems asynchronous initialization is made possible by some kernel work. As to handle the storage the modified kernel starts the Advanced Host Controller Interface initialization in the same time the Universal Host Controller Interface handle’s USB (fig.3). Arjan said that we can boo the kernel probably in half second but we got it down to a second and we stopped. Thanks to brand new fix in the AHCI support, which made kernel down to a half second by 2.6.28.

There was a one more kernel change that a small patch to support read ahead. The kernel keeps track of that blocks it had to read at boot after that delivers that information to userspace when the booting is complete that enables readahead which is part of early boot process.

How they did it: readahead and init

The first userspace program is init traditionally, while Fedora uses Upstart for replacement of init. But Intel team used the original init. The task’s order handled by init is modified to do three things at same time. First there is a sReadahead process which read blocks from disk that are cached in memory. Second is critical path in which filesystem is checked, the D-Bus inter-process communication system, then X, then the desktop. Third step is set of programs to start Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), udev manager for hot plugged devices and then networking. To make not depended boot on udev the system haves a persistent dev directory, udev basically is used only to support the devices, which are added later in system.

To enhance the efficiency of the CPU the arrangement of tasks helps a lot. For instance in Fig.4. X delays for about half a second for video modes ad that’s when HAL does its CPU-intensive startup.

Thanks to sReadahead, as the graph shows usage of CPU and disk both are at maximum for most of boot time. Everything which it needs while staring X is already in cache so it wont have to wait to read from disk. Though sReadahead is based on Fedora Readahead but its modified to take advantage of the kernel’s new list of blocks read.

As there is a hard limit of 75MB of reads in order to boot set by the maximum transfer speed of the Flash storage in 3 seconds of I/O at 25MB/s. Arjan said that because of that we don’t read the while file, we read only the pieces of the file we actually use. Its easy for the disk if it anything else needs it can get from sReadahead as its uses the “idle” I/O scheduler. The system boots in seven seconds having readahead turned off but with readahead it boots in five seconds.

Arjan said that X is still having difficulty so we had to do a lot of damage to X. Most of work was temporary while some work involved eliminating the C compiler run by re-using keyboard mappings. To cut the total startup time the current line of X puts more of the hardware detection and configuration into the kernel. Some part of kernel’s time budget spends in waiting for hardware to initialize, though it can initialize more than one thing at a time so more efficient use of time for kernel is to initialize the video hardware at same time as it does USB and ATA. From audience X developer Keith Packard and also an Intel employee offered their help. By setting the video mode in the kernel, that would not let the kernel that would not let the kernel initialize it at the same time as the rest of hardware as shown in Fig.3. GDM is not used for fast booting system by running the XFCE desktop environment it boots straight to a user session. Arjan said that instead of GDM a distribution could boot to the desktop session of the last user but for that start the screen saver right away. By that a different user wanted to log in then he of she can use the screen saver’s “switch user” button.

Conclusion

At end Arjan said that don’t settle for making boot faster that’s the wrong question. The question is ‘ make boot fast’. A few people run a filesystem that requires a module or send mail on their laptops so don’t make all users wait. Make it like that you only pay the price if you use the feature. He said that distributions shouldn’t have to maintain separate initrd-based and initrd-free kernel packages. The kernel can try to boot initrd-free, then fall back for any reason like it cant see /sbin/init, as the module needed to mount the root filesystem is missing.

With the blade competition getting more intense, IBM didn’t get the second best award sitting still. HP is having Shorty, and Big Blue coming with the BladeCenter S. The 7U unit is expandable to 11U to increase blades, storage or tape backup. Designed for smaller offices that mostly not have a separated server room, the BladeCenter S comes with two nice features: number of inbuilt air filters that prevent from dust & a noise attenuator, which muffles the noise of the fans.

Operating System

We will be fair to say it was this area that surprised us the most. Windows Server 2008 was introduced on Feb 27. It qualified for this awards program by just days. Windows gets a lot of press, but let’s faces it; it’s more often than not press that Microsoft doesn’t want.
Yet despite contest from what is most of times thought hipper and cooler — a stellar enterprise-class Linux, a well-known energetic variant, a mature Unix distro, and the cultish Leopard — Windows Server 2008 was the favorite OS by far. If this analysis is any kind of barometer, the rule of Windows Server 2008 in the data center has begun.

And really, it is not that much amazing when you cast an unbiased eye. It contains myriad new functionality and improved features: Read-Only Domain Controller, Hyper-V and Role-based installations are at their best. In addition to improvements to ever-present security features & terminal services, IIS 7 Web server has been enhanced to fulfill growing Web serving demands. However, the zeitgeist also had its day as Apple’s Mac OS X Server “Leopard” 10.5 gained the second best position. Not bad for an OS that in last few years has become entirely an afterthought. Brought in market in October 2007, Leopard’s jump to the desktops of Mac lowers was well-documented. Normally, Apple-enuthusiast’s love doesn’t go as far into the server room as in the case of enterprise, but it runs deep, so deep that it brings it to runner-up position.

Virtualization Platform

Here, as in the high-end server category, a couple of players play for a crowded space. For the third year running, VMware acquired best awards. Contrary to preceding years, however, where ESX made-up the way to victory, in the 2008 awards, VMware Virtual Infrastructure took home the gold.

VMware Virtual Infrastructure is not unknown to glory either. In 2007, it was second best in the Virtualization Tool category. Last year, we anticipated re-categorizing of the awards so that holistic virtualization presentations could be examined against each other.

VMware Virtual Infrastructure is placed as the groundwork of a VMware-based virtual infrastructure. Introduced in fourth quarter 2007, Virtual Infrastructure 3 is created to alleviate major pain points server admins confront in the physical & virtual worlds. Its core modules are VMware ESX Server 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 modules. However, other modules are also available, like VMware Storage VMotion, VMware Update Manager and VMware Distributed Power Management.
As unsurprised as we were that VMware got the lion’s share of votes for top honor, we were as surprised when Citrix XenServer Enterprise Edition & Sun xVM finish in a tie for the second best position. In 2007, XenEnterprise for Windows achieved the silver.
xVM made waves in late last week when it declared it had moved past the 5 million download level. Without any doubt its x86 virtual infrastructure presentation is infect ready for prime time. The Sun xVM Infrastructure includes of xVM Server (a hypervisor part) and xVM Ops Center (number of different management tools). It scales across the shrinking server, storage and networking divide and to develope Sun’s virtual footprint farther along its native OS.

Virtualization Tool

This category of virtual tools is filled mostly with small players fulfilling certain defined needs. The votes were really tight, but VMLogix LabManager Manager edged out from the large number of participants.

VMLogix, apart from having competition with VMware Lab Manager, has nothing to do with VMware. Actually, the virtual lab automation solution claims to be the single player that supports Citrix XenServer (in addition to VMware ESX). Its focus is on automation and the system developing greater consistency and efficiency.
Hyperic HQ, in the meantime, achieved the runner-up position.
Hyperic HQ is known for automatizing systems & application management tasks for software in production. It can be run on more than 65 major technologies, throughout all big OSs, which includes Linux, Unix, Mac OS X and Windows. Of specific interest, here, is that the software will monitor all layers of the infrastructure — physical or virtual.
It takes in real-time and historical metrics from production hardware; network and application layers then make intelligent alerts that help admins to look to problems as they start. Moreover, metrics can be used for resources to more effectively evaluate equipment status.
Automation or Compliance Tool
The Automation and Compliance tool category was new to the Product Excellence Awards. It shows both the growing status of data center automation tools and the importance to insure compliance. It is all because of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure act; big thanks to it.
The Automation or Compliance Tool category addresses a broad array of products. Despite all that, users took no time zeroing in on CommVault Simpana Software Suite as the No. 1.
The Simpana Software suite is created to incorporate backup, recovery, replication & archive jobs into a one platform. The Web-based interface for the search facility is developed to be straightforward right for business, legal and compliance staff members to take benefit from.
In 2007, GridApp attained runner-up awards in the Server Appliance category. Last year, GridApp once again had a powerful demonstration to attain the silver in the Automation and Compliance category with their GridApp Clarity.
GridApp Clarity’s automation utility validates database and server configurations, provisions and patches new database schemes, and controls environmental changes on an on-going basis.
Green Initiative
Green is the color of the data center nowadays. So how is it possible that we not add a category that renders environmentally friendly (plus financially favorable) green opening moves?
The winner of Green Initiative award is very difficult to reason with, as it is an industry team attempt. The Green Grid is a specific for consortium needs and increasing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing environments. The group was formed by AMD in 2006. Its founding members are HP, IBM and Sun. becoming a part of the four founders on the Green Grid’s group is Dell, APC, Intel, Microsoft, Rackable Systems and Spray Cool.
While the finalists may have collaborated to develop and carry-on the Green Grid, HP, IBM, Intel and Sun were fighting it out for the second best honor. Sun made its peers green with envy when it came out as the deserving for runner-up position. The Sun Eco Innovation initiative is especially developed to reduce energy costs and IT environmental affect by evaluating, optimizing and virtualizing data center infrastructure.

Last year, voting was held for the Third Annual ServerWatch Product Excellence Awards.
That was a reader-driven program which held for two years. The results were as expected. While in few cases history repeated and patterns remained the same, in rest, new and some of the times surprising winners emerged.

As usual, innovation remained a key driver, but that year, with enterprises narrowing their objectives and IT budgets getting smaller, the mindshare that goes with being time-tested seems to have given these products an advantage.

Small Business Server

There is nothing small with small enterprises. With 25 million in only USA, as on report by the Small Business Administration, they are producing about 2/3rd of all new jobs.
Therefore, it is no surprise to see the big players finding big opportunities in small and mid-size business sector. Regardless of ever-escalating competition in the Small Business Server market, Dell keeps on retaining its title edging out the Apple xServe.

The winning Dell PowerEdge 2970 is much same like its predecessor (the PowerEdge 2950) as it is designed to be a big-purpose server that is used generally. It is splendid whether it is taking the role of an application, database, file/print, email or any other type of server. However, PowerEdge 2970 have several notable distinctive features. The major, no doubt, is that different from the Intel Xeon-based 2950, the Dell PowerEdge 2970 is running on AMD’s Opteron dual-core processor.

Apple took the runner-up position with its Apple xServe. It took home the award 3 years before, thus it is open that Dell & Apple are the two players which are now consistent favorites among people.

As is specific with Apple products, the xServe has a pricing premium over all competing Windows servers. The xServe uses Apple’s 64-bit OS X Server with an unlimited client license; this thing makes it up for the pricing premium. The reason is OS X is based on a Unix base, most of server functions are actually repackaged open source applications; this includes Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, and Samba. Apple gives value to it by incorporating its administration into an accessible, interconnected interface.

Mid-range Ser

The midrange server category has developed to level where it is difficult to say what it means. Multicore has muddied the waters & the situation is nobody is willing to look at raw processors anymore. However, there are servers that can neither be categorized as entry-level nor high-end and that are built to fulfill the requirements that do not fall clearly into either category.

And few servers, such as the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220, which attained first position, are specifically agile. Unveiled in October, the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 was listed in the first rack-mount systems to be based on Sun’s T2 processor, which has eight cores with support to eight threads per core. While the 2U server features a single processor, a specification that would not put it in the midrange classification of yore, it has 64-GB of memory and capacity to add eight hot-pluggable drives and can run both a 1.2GHz and 1.4GHz processor.

Readers also took up the HP Integrity rx7640, a product that the OEM says as mid-range server and ideal for scaling to database hosting, ERP, CRM, business intelligence, data mining and data warehousing requirements. This server carries up to 8 dual-core Itanium processors. It features 1200 GB (4×300 GB) of internal storage space. Its memory capacity can be extended up to 256 GB. It has custom-designed 278pin DIMMs and bus bandwidth of 34 GB/s.

High-End Server or Mainframe

Since the time of its beginning, the high-end server market has been a crowded space with small number of vendors. HP and IBM mainly dominate. Likewise, the market is small and deep-pocketed, yet customers cannot bear downtime. Although the statistics are changing, many businesses demanding for a mainframe fall near the Fortune 1000 line.

So, it is not astonishing that the traditional won out yet over again. That year the HP Integrity Superdome regained top awards. It features more than double the functioning of the old-generation, single-core servers, and it does that by consuming a less power.
I think that the key selling point of this new generation of Superdome products to attract potential customers is their configuration choices. Enterprises have choice to select from 16-, 32-, and 64-socket models. Dual-core Itanium processors and the sx2000 chipset run these servers, which includes no internal disks, and therefore relay on direct-attached storage (like SCSI) or network-attached storage (for example, Fiber Channel or high-speed Ethernet).
on the other hand, IBM, which in 2007 won for its z9 mainframe Enterprise Class, took the second best position with its fresh mainframe product — the z10. The z10 was unveiled in February. It is the biggest redevelopment to Big Iron in almost three years. The z10 was created with considering the energy efficiency and virtualization factor. It was its paramount goals. It is also set for consolidation: almost 1,500 x86 servers can work on one z10.

Storage System

Storage goes on to be a major concern for enterprises of all sizes. Not just are storage requirements increasing, but the pressure to organize and keep data up to modern standards is growing also. More capacity requirements are not the single storage constant — so is the winner of the Storage System category: NetApp won as champion once again with its award-winning NetApp FAS2000 Series.

In 2007, NetApp StoreVault S500 gained honors. As it comes out, the StoreVault reached on top. In early 2008, the NetApp announced it was closing down its small and medium business StoreVault section turning into its FAS storage unit.
At that time, NetApp stated blending the lines of businesses would enable it to extend the StoreVault program into distant and branch offices as an extension of it core product line.
However, readers agreed with the decision, as NetApp moved to the win to regain its storage honor.
In a bit of amazement, Hitachi’s Simple Modular Storage Model 100 expelled out EMC & IBM to get the second best position. Specially designed for the SMB sector the Simple Modular Storage Model 100 supports 4 servers & save up to 9TB of data.

Blade Server

In spite of new-found contest from Sun & Hitachi, and repeatedly powerful offers from Engenera, the blade server sector is still very much like a two-horse race.

Even so, similar to any good story, there is a bit of twist: The IBM BladeCenter was moving for a three-peat last year (2008), after taking the category two times in both 2006 & 2007. Even though, IBM is still in the heart of blade users, this time HP came through to achieve the top position with its HP BladeSystem C3000 – aka, Shorty.
To kick IBM down its blade perch, HP should come with some innovation, and it did. Shorty, as the name describes, is a compact blade enclosure specially designed for smaller companies and branch/remote offices. One of the attractiveness of C3000 is that it is simpatico with HP’s larger enclosure, the C7000. That is, it can work with the same server & storage products without needing special power, cooling or IT knowledge to implement.

For many weeks, I have been exploring a lot, all three of the popular Web browsers, and thus reached some conclusions. This is not any kind of review in a way; it is just what I, as a layman, who never has less than three browser windows and many tabs open simultaneously, have observed.

Google Chrome:

When Chrome first came out, I liked it very much. With version 2.0.169.1 out, I like it today also all the same.

There are two simple reasons for my liking: Its speed and security. Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine is literary faster than fast. Only Apple’s Safari even comes close to keeping up with Chrome. Others are nothing but a bunch of slowpokes.

Now, most of the times when you come through review articles with benchmarks the differences, in real life, are not really visible. That’s not the matter with Chrome vs. its competitors. If this was a NASCAR competition, it would be beating them to the checked flag by laps.

Chrome was the only browser hackers failed to crack in secs or minutes in the recently organized PWN2OWN hacker competition. Actually, Chrome never was busted.

So, why Chrome is not my number one choice? Well, just for one reason, that is its Windows, and I am not a Windows-only type of user. Linux is my main desktop choice, & I also use Macs very much. What I need is a browser compatible with all the three major desktop platforms.

Internet Explorer 8:

I know many of you will not take it to be true this, but I really rather liked Internet Explorer 8, when I first began using it. I particularly found attractive that I opened one tab from a link in new and the ‘related’ tabs open with the same color. By automatically structuring the tabs by color-coding, I felt that managing tabs was now much simpler.

Since then, though, I have been listening from other users who have had IE that particular app — oh the irony! — break on them. so the single reason for many people to use IE was to use those backwards Web sites, there goes one major reason to have IE right there. And you, by the way, ready or not; Microsoft is going to start offering IE 8 to users via Windows update. If you really use IE very much, I will suggest ’skip it’ for now until they have taken out some of the compatibility bugs of it.

Firefox 3.5 beta/Firefox 3.08:

Here, I come back to Firefox which is my favorite browser. It runs really fast, it is much secure, and it works pretty much with every site there on the Web. Besides running on every desktop present there, Firefox has one more edge over the others: its software ecosystem.

There are hundreds of useful Firefox extensions available and they turn Firefox beyond than simply a browser. With Xmarks (formerly Foxmarks) and the Google Toolbar for Firefox, I can perform many additional jobs with Firefox than I can do with any other browsers.

So, as Chrome is faster and more secure and IE 8 is much enhanced than IE 7 and 6, the final conclusion is that Firefox and its friends still deliver me a great Web experience over all. And, if you are a guy like me and want to get information quickly on the Web daylong, that’s no modest.

So today we are talking about really great and high advance latest GPS media player having TV tuner gadgets product. These highly advance GPS media players are showing unique conceptual design and overall whole part for this latest GPS media player with TV tuner gadgets product is really great and it has come with highly advance technology.

We are having such a great new device and NV, normally these types of devices are called Classic. We might describe them as a mixture between media player and GPS. This GPS is really great integrated digital TV tuner and the principle could also be targeted for using in cars because as such it is a GPS navigator.

The integrated TV tuner make it an SUV which has such ability that it can also be prepared to serve as a multimedia player.

And various reliable future are being presented by this latest TV tuner just like audio and video, plus photo viewer and it also offers another resource such as SDHC cards, internal memory and many more. And it also presents screen in touch-7 inch having a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels and with all these features there seems to be the perfect player to bring one side to another.

And further I want to tell you that this gadgets product seems that the Classic NV will launch initially in Korea for a price around 190 Euros. No official launch date has been announced yet for the rest of the world.

Imagine this: It is late at night, you are sitting at your PC enjoying a game or doing work on a project and all of a sudden Windows freezes completely. All the work is lost, and you are seeing a blue screen which is full of gibberish gazing back at your face. Windows is no longer there; it is dead, until you reboot it.

Many people ask me in forums that “Am I Immune to BSODs, If I Use Vista?” Unluckily, no. A general thought is that blue screens do not even happen in Vista version, but not only are they still appear there, but we are here to make you sure we have observed them first hand. The big news is Microsoft done very much deep work into how Vista cope with major errors and other faults that in earlier OSs would make a system crash.

BSOD problems in Vista

Many times, if a problem starts, Vista tries to fix it without any break. For instance, when a video-card crashes, a message appears “Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.” In Windows XP and earlier OSs, this thing happened in almost each system crash.

In many cases, Vista fails to recover on its own, and start showing a blue screen. By default, Vista reboots itself automatically after shortly flashing the blue screen. The process is so fast you perhaps miss to see it, but once Windows reloads, you will be seeing an error message same like shown above. You can try using the ‘Check for solution’ option; it is a same as you tries your hand while playing the lotto. Neither one results in anything.

Rather, scroll down and write down the blue screen codes. Using this detail, you get able to do your own master work. On the other hand, if you would like to see the actual blue screen instead of immediately rebooting, here is the way; click on the My Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings. In the System Properties window, you will see the Advanced tab, select it, select Settings in Startup and Recovery section, and uncheck the box showing ‘Automatically Restart.’ The same procedure also works in Windows XP.

In another nod towards contouring the troubleshooting procedure, Vista’s Problem Reports and Solutions wizard saves lot of time in investigation, as well as informs you to possible problems you were not even aware they are present there. You will see this wizard by name in your Control Panel, or simply open it by typing Problem Reports and Solutions in Vista’s search box. After loading it, click ‘Check for new solutions’ present right in the left-hand column. If Vista sees any potential conflicts, it will show them in the main window, along with suggested solutions.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0×0000000A)

The possible reason of this conflict is improperly installed drivers for any hardware you get installed in a recent past. Lets say, if you have installed a webcam couple of days ago, and have been facing BSoDs ever since, begin your detective work with the webcam. First of all, remove/disconnect that specific hardware, and uninstall its drivers. If that solves the blue screen problem, you should get updated drivers or contact the manufacturer.

If you have not installed any new hardware in recent days, you will require doing some extra work. Start by looking into the list on blue screen to check if it includes a particular driver. Checking the blue screen, go to the text at the very bottom.

You may find a file name. This is the driver that made the crash. If, for instance, the driver possibly causing the problem is nv4_disp.dll (an nVidia-related file), and you have switched from an Nvidia video card to an ATI part some days ago, then it is right to think that either the old driver was not uninstalled completely, or the new drivers were not installed in a proper way.

Need to shop a desktop or laptop for your children who are ready to get back to their school. We are presenting here some suggestion for buying a good laptop that are ranging from entry-level to high powered quad core processor machines.

lets have a quick look at the laptops that you may want to buy.

Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955

Price: 350$

It’s difficult to ignore a laptop that has the price tag of 350$ only, a good television were not this low cost five years ago. But the question arise after seeing such price that what I am getting for such price.

Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 is one of the entry-level laptop that we choose for our Back-to-School roundup. Its not only the price tag of 350$ catches our attention but its quality also. We can have 15.4” display with all the necessary component like 2.2GHz Intel Celeron 900, 2GB, DDR2 800MHz memory, 160GB 5,400rpm hard drive, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphic card with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and its weight is just 6.5 pounds.

The good side of the Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 is its cheapest price and the decent screen look with great video streaming.

The bad side of the Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 is its old slow processor, thick and boxy look and have no webcam.

To conclude it’s hard to argue with a $350 laptop, Toshiba Satellite L305-S5955 is basically a Netbook with a large screen and good streaming video result.

HP Compaq CQ60-417DX

Price: 499$

Our second laptop that comes in our back-to-school roundup is HP Compaq CQ60-417DX. The laptop has a price tag of 499$. The thing that make it a complete machine is its component that not only easy to work with it as Netbook but has also the basic items that a standard laptop have.

Specification includes Intel Celeron 900/2.20 GHz CPU, memory 3GB with a Storage of 160GB. It is also supported by DVD +/-RW. The hot 802.11b/g Wireless LAN with Bluetooth 2.0 make it a great laptop. It has Microsoft Windows Vista. So you can consider it while go for shopping.

Dell i1545-012B

Price: 429$

Our next laptop in back-to-school roundup is Dell i1545-012B. It comes with a price tag of 429$. It really worth its price as it has Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.0 T4200 CPU. Display size is also a great factor that play a major role while considering to buy.

Good side of Dell i1545-012B is its 14.7 inches Wide-display screen that is powered with Dual Core CPU.

The bad side of Dell i1545-012B is its very stripped-down design that misses some basic functions.

To conclude Dell i1545-012B is great mainstream laptop that has price less than 500$.

Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965

Price: 449$

Again we have here a Toshiba laptop with a Dual Core CPU in price just under 500$. Can you imagine Dual Core laptop just for 449$ in the time of financial crises.Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 is equipped with Windows-Vista and it is powered by a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 CPU, 3GB of RAM, a decent 16:9 15.6-inch screen, a DVD burner, 250GB hard drive, and basic ATI graphics–which is a pretty good package for less than $500.

It leave behind the sluggish Intel Celeron processors as it has the dual-core AMD Athlon X2 CPU in entry level price.

The bad side of the Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965 is its bulky design and it also lack some basic feature like Bluetooth and webcam.

To conclude for a price just less than a Netbook, Toshiba’s smart 15.6-inch Satellite L505D-S5965 is good choice to have and can fulfill one’s basic computing needs.

Asus K50IJ-RX05

Price: 449$

Here again we have another laptop that has price less than 500$. Again the charm in this laptop is its Dual Core CPU. It has 2GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T4200 that is boosted by 3GB, 800MHz DDR2. It has 320GB 5,400rpm Hard Disk Drive. DVD, Bluetooth, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, 4 USB 2.0, SD card reader increase its charm to have.

Microsoft has just made silverlight version 3 available for download. Microsoft hopes to take Adobe’s flash player heads on with this new release. Silverlight 3 is available for free download from official silverlight website. This software works for both Mac OS X and Windows. Although this version is designed for Intel-Only CPUs but there are other silverlight version available for older PowerPC based Macs.

Silverlight is basically a web application framework that works with your browser. it enables developers to show/draw and embed photos, vectors, graphics, sounds , animations and videos within HTML pages.

Main competition for silverlight 3 is Adobe’s AIR framework and Flex. Adobe AIR gained and edge over silverlight 3 as there are many popular twitter applications like tweetdeck distributed via Adobe AIR. Both frameworks let the end users work on desktop, without launching the browser.

Silverlight 3 was released late but it has far better support for high quality sound and video. the new 3D graphic rendering and pixel shading gives it an edge over any other rival framework. With improved tet renders, fonts support and animation effects, Microsoft Silverlight 3 has set the bar quite high.

Over 55 new and improved controls have been added for developers to work with. All of these new controls are customizable. All new layout containers, deep linking, page bookmarking, Search engine optimization and enhanced data support will take Rich Internet Applications to new heights.

To conclude, I must say that by making Silverlight 3 available for free download, Microsoft has changed the web 2.0 landscape forever. Let’s Download Silverlight 3 now
