Didi-saster

Back in history, circa 2011, you would’ve been hard-pressed to find a native Bong who didn’t want to get rid of the Communist junta in the State. That is, apart from the apparatchiks. Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was the saviour.

Well, about a year later, in the State of Poschim Bongo, she’s trying hard to make people forget the Communists by ridding textbooks of Marxism. That’s not going to help, since her recent antics, at the Center and State, are making most Indians yearns for the good ol’ days of the bad ol’ Leftists.

Pakistan's Tourist Trap

Some stories you just can't make up.

Like this one from the Washington Post. We bet the writer of the headline spent hours in wonder before delivering this bit of brilliance: Pakistan struggles to attract tourists amid violence.

Ah, we see. Is that what it is?

Some of the content of the article is absolutely hilarious, you'd think this was satire not a news report.

Downing The Haqqani Network With Some Sherry

It can be difficult to be country that even Republican Congressman and American Presidential pretender Michelle Bachmann knows enough about to describe it as “too nuclear to fail”. That, in case, you were wondering, is Pakistan.

The latest from terroristan is the demo of the power of the memo. Apparently, Pak President Asif Ali Zardari was afraid he was going to be reduced to Mr Zero Per Cent by the Army and the ISI. So, the memo said.

If it was LK Advani on Wednesday, it was Rahul Gandhi's turn to get Twitter-worthy on Thursday as #YoRahulSoDumb started trending. You can never keep the Babalog down. Here's a selection of tweets:

@KiranKS: #YoRahulSoDumb he still thinks it was his papa who sang the Bollywood hit song.. "You are my Sonia".

@ScamSutra: Rahul's age will always be more than his IQ #YoRahulSoDumb

Advani's Twitter Yatra

Once upon a time there was a BJP leader called Lal Kishan Advani...despite the passage of millenia, he still appears to be around and back on his chariot. His latest yatra has earned him the wrath of the twitterwallahs as the hashtag #YoAdvaniSoOld trended in India. Here's a selection of some of the best tweets:

@HoeZaay: #YoAdvaniSoOld He tweets with a Pen.

@rij79: #yoadvanisoold that he was darban of ayodhya palace when ramlalla was born. Hence the commitment to the cause

Pak's Ad-dled Campaign

On September 11, the 10th anniversary of 9/11, many Americans opened their newspapers and found a full-age ad taken out by the Pakistan Government. Those ads were meant to project Pakistan as a frontline state against terrorism rather than the headquarters of Jiahdi Terror Inc. The campaign probably cost a couple of million dollars, but given all the US aid to Pakistan, those were probably American tax dollars at work.

Well, within hours, that ad had been spoofed (pretty fittingly so). Here's a look at one example:

140-Character Quake

The first law of Twitter is tweet now, think later. This seems to have been confirmed by the reaction to the earthquake that struck Delhi. Tweets streamed on, while Dilliwallahs should have been streaming out of their homes. But then a city that’s the center of Indian politics is pretty much used to calamity, so it tends to be a bit blasé about disasters, natural or in the corridors of power. But the twitterati also showed off their sense of humour. Here’s a sampler (not crediting individuals since we can’t be certain where each originated):

1. Mother-in-law:
In India - A woman capable of making your life miserable.
Outside India - A woman you never fight with, because where else you will find such a dedicated baby sitter for free?

2. Husband:
In India - A boring human species, who listens more to his mother than you, and orders you around to serve him, his parents and siblings.
Outside India - Still boring, but now a useful human species that comes in handy when the house needs to be vacuumed.

3. Friend:
