This week on Wall Street actually started last Sunday when word started getting out that Yahoo's (YHOO) new CEO, Scott Thompson, was already on his way out. Investors will remember that certain discrepancies on Thompson's CV began emerging recently. After the CEO departure, EVP and Head of Global Media, Ross Levinsohn was named interim CEO. +1 for activist investor, Dan Loeb, who also scored a seat on YHOO's board.

Well, the stock hasn't settled in yet and we've already gotten our first initiation piece on Facebook (FB). Needham's Laura Martin was one of the first out of the gate to publish on the record-setting IPO and she likes the stock. Specifically, she thinks the shares are "an option on the World." Her model values FB by measuring average time spent on the social network and multiplying it by "its powerful margin expansion engine." With 900M users spending a total of 14% of all time spent online globally on Facebook itself, she sees room for growth. She's initiating with a BUY rating and a $40 PT.

News Corp (NWSA) might not have hit it out of the park when the media firm released its quarterly earnings, but it did give investors something to cheer about: 5 billion things to cheer about actually, according to Nomura analyst, Michael Nathanson. He was very appreciative of the firm's authorization of $5B in additional share buybacks, taking the total up to $10B for 2012. Barclays' Anthony DiClemente called the buybacks "the X factor." Combined with cable's strong affiliate fee growth (15%) and 10% US advertising growth, Nathanson is sticking to his Buy on the stock, calling it "one of the most attractive media stocks from this point on."
