Dance pop producers The Chainsmokers reteamed with frequent collaborator Winona Oak (now known as Oaks) for a new five-track extended play, Love is Kind. While Oaks delivers some sturdy vocals, the Chainsmokers’ arrangements feel redundant, as some of the production sounds like it belongs to the mid-2010s. C-

R&B icon Chris Brown dropped his twelfth studio album, BROWN. It is the backronym of Break Rules Only When Necessary. The “Forever” recording artist recruited an all-star group of collaborators, ranging from featured artists Bryson Tiller, Leon Thomas, and GloRilla to producers and songwriters such as Alan Sampson, DJ Paul, Harvey Mason, Jr., Jermaine Paul, and Usher. BROWN offers some of Chris Brown’s best material of the decade so far and showcases that he is a master when it comes to blending R&B and hip-hop. A-

CINEMATIC features Josh Groban’s take on Disney anthems (“Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” & “When You Wish Upon a Star”), treasured franchises such as The Godfather (“Brucia la Terra”) and James Bond (“Skyfall”), and a duet with an EGOT icon – Ms. Jennifer Hudson (“Unchained Melody”). Country music sensation Kacey Musgraves dropped her seventh studio album, Middle of Nowhere. Variety reported that the “Rainbow” songstress’s seventh offering is focused on a period of reflection coming out of her divorce with fellow musician Ruston Kelly. She mainly co-wrote the record with top songwriters Daniel Tashian, Ian Fitchuk, Luke Laird, Shane McNally, and Steph Jones. She also welcomed folk rocker Gregory Alan Isakov, bluegrass musician Billy Strings, and country music royalty – Miranda Lambert and Willie Nelson as featured artists.  Middle of Nowhere showcases a softer but confident side of Kacey Musgraves, with superb ear candy that I predict could play a role in the country music award season.  A

“Home to Us” by Sir Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr

The last living Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr, reunited for a single on the legendary singer-songwriter’s twenty-first solo studio record, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. I got instant goosebumps when Sir Paul first sang the tune’s first note. The combination of Sir Paul’s vocals, along with Sir Ringo’s drumming, will make music lovers and Beatles fans’ hearts pitter-patter with delight! A+

“In the Stars” by The Rolling Stones

Rock legends The Rolling Stones are about to make history! The celebrated rock music group will release their twenty-fifth (!) studio album, Foreign Tongues, this summer! Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood teamed up with super-producer Andrew Watt for the album’s creation process. Their first single, “In the Stars,” perfectly sets the stage for what is to come. This song is perfection and showcases that the legendary “Gimmie Shelter” band is still on top of their A-game. A+

“Dirty Rosie” by Shania Twain

One of country music’s queens, Ms. Shania Twain, will drop her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24! “Dirty Rosie” is Shania at her finest. The “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” songstress’s vocals and irresistible blues guitar hooks will sink their teeth into listeners as she transports them into her formative years.  B+

“Control” / “Dive” by Tori Kelly

Tori Kelly rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar’s New Music Reviews with two new songs – “Control” / “Dive.” The Sing voice actress and singer dropped the new singles that will be a part of her sixth studio album, God Must Really Love Me. “Control” might have been a song that Tori “stole” from Alicia Keys’s songbook, while “Dive” could be the child of an 80s synth-pop and 90s R&B melody. Both songs are superb and an excellent start to a new chapter! A

I am very excited to launch a very special series for Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar. May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM), which annually celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans to the United States.

I am honored to welcome my dear friend and mentor, Joanne J-Bird Phillips, to the podcast. I first met J-Bird in New York City through our mutual friend and former guest, Beatrice Kimmel. She and I instantly bonded and became fast friends. I love her zest for life, and it was Beshert (Yiddish for “destiny”) that the stars finally aligned for her to come on the show for our third JAHM special.

Born in The Bronx and raised on Long Island, NY, Joanne Phillips grew up in a family of professional drummers and band leaders. Having a natural rhythm since childhood, Joanne’s father taught her to play drums with brushes when she was seven, and her first song was “Come Fly with Me” by Frank Sinatra. She grew up listening to Swing, Motown, Bossa Nova and Rock ‘n’ Roll, and honed her drum skills on a full orange sparkle drum kit that her family bought for her. At age sixteen, Joanne was asked to join a local garage band of teenage boys who needed someone to play their cover of “Wipeout” by The Surfaris correctly. She stepped in and nailed it.

Hence began Joanne’s lifelong love of music and live performance.

Fast forward to the late 70’s after Joanne had moved to Long Beach, NY and raised two children of her own in the arts — her son, an alumnus of Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYCand one of the metro area’s popular freelance Improv coaches, and her daughter, a SAG-AFTRA TV actress and comedian/comedy writer working in LA. Over the years, Joanne witnessed how many music and arts programs were evaporating and eventually terminated, due to a lack of funding and/or support from the government, as well as certain folks with no interest in keeping arts programs alive, resulting in the arts being put on the back burner in the education system. Joanne remained an avid supporter of an arts education platform for children. She saw how it created positive experiences for her own kids (and many other youths) and witnessed how even a basic arts education enriched lives of youths on many levels for years into their adulthood.

In 2012, Joanne founded J-Bird Music for the Arts, Inc., with the vision of reviving arts programs by providing much-needed equipment, instruments, and resources to enrich the lives of youth through arts education. She wanted to bring that same joy, excitement, and creativity to youths everywhere, especially in areas that are underserved or underfunded.

Through J-Bird Music for the Arts, Joanne brings her vision alive. From her tireless efforts as a brain tumor survivor with a second chance to live and continue on this mission, she has provided much-needed equipment and support to music and arts programs throughout New York State, including Still Waters In A Storm in Brooklyn, Long Beach High School in Long Island, and Goshen Central High School in Orange County, NY.

On this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Joanne Phillips spoke about her tenth anniversary of being associated with the US Press Association and revealed some of the J-Bird Music for the Arts’ top accomplishments.

I am very excited to launch a very special series for Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. May is Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM), which annually celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans to the United States.

There are no words to describe how ecstatic I am to welcome back Ethan Zohn for a third time! Ethan became a household name when he first appeared on Survivor: Africa, the third season of the legendary US reality TV competition. He won seven challenges and the title of “Sole Survivor.” He appeared on Survivor: All-Stars, where he won four challenges but lasted only 21 days, and returned to compete in the milestone season Survivor: Winners at War, where he only won one challenge and lasted 35 days.

Since Survivor, Ethan has become an influential social entrepreneur. With a portion of his Survivor: Africa winnings, he co-founded Grassroot Soccer (GRS). GRS is an adolescent health organization that harnesses the power of soccer to provide young people with the essential information, services, and mentorship they need to lead healthier lives. Since its inception, GRS has expanded to 60 countries in Africa and worldwide, graduated 13 million youth, and worked with scores of public— and private-sector partners.

He also raised his voice to fight cancer.  Cancer-free since 2012, Ethan Zohn has been a voice for fighters, survivors, and caregivers of all ages, even chronicling the gritty details of his entire cancer experience for People Magazine. While undergoing treatment, he ran and finished the New York City and Boston marathons to help spread messages of hope and resilience to the world.  Ethan is a champion for investment in new medical research and technology. He is an advisor to numerous hospitals and foundations, such as Cancer Buddy, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Memorial Sloan Kettering.

As demonstrated by his charitable work, tzedakah, and community involvement, Ethan believes that Jewish values can help create a better, healthier world. His inspiration to help heal the world stems from being taught at an early age the importance of community, a connection to the Jewish faith, and the preservation of Israel.  Ethan shares his deep bond to Judaism, his connection to the Jewish community, and his relationship with Israel by partnering with Jewish organizations that do critical work worldwide, such as BBYO, the Jewish National Fund, and Maccabi USA.

On this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Ethan Zohn gave his take on Survivor 50, previews Grassroot Soccer’s 25^th anniversary, and how Grassroot Soccer is going to play a role with the World Cup coming to North America.

To kick things off, I am welcoming my friend and fellow Kansas Citian, Beatrice Levine, to the podcast! Beatrice is an art historian, culture writer, and digital creator blending high-low aesthetics with a distinctly smart, funny voice. Since 2016, she has built Culture Quota, a highly engaged global community of college-aged and professional women who come to me for content that’s equal parts educational, irreverent, and always visually sharp. From museum deep-dives to viral reels, her work lives at the intersection of culture, commentary, and connection.

Beatrice has worked with various brands, including The Academic Writer’s Space, Diet Coke, Jerry Gogosian, the Leo Baeck Institute, and YSL Beauty. In addition to Culture Quota, she works as a Social Media Associate at 70 Faces Media and as a Content Manager at Betches Media.

A Note from Jacob: Since my conversation with Matt, the 2026 Janice Jam at Sony Hall is OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT!

I am thrilled to welcome back my friend, actor Matt DeAngelis, to Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar for an exclusive conversation!

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Matt grew up on showtunes and Boston sports. Matt studied theatre at the University of Southern Maine and The Boston Conservatory before heading down Route 95 to NYC in 2004. In June 2009, Matt got the call to make his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning production of HAIR with Tony Award winner Diane Paulus at the helm. Matt continued with that production, “Across the Atlantic Sea,” to the West End in the role of “Woof,” then launched the first national US Tour of HAIR, and was seen back on Broadway in the “Summer of Love” revival of HAIR. Following his time with the hippies, Matt launched the first national tour of Green Day’s AMERICAN IDIOT as the “Representative from Jingletown”. Matt’s cross-country adventures continued in 2014 with the first national tour of ONCE, where he played “Svec” and five instruments. Over the last five years, Matt has been a veteran of almost 2,000 performances.

Thankfully, Matt returned home to Broadway (again with Diane Paulus) in the hit musical WAITRESS, where he starred opposite Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz, and seven-time Grammy nominee and the show’s composer, Sara Bareilles. He then toured the country with the WAITRESS National Tour as Earl opposite his real-life wife, Christine Dwyer, as Jenna. Upon returning from the road, Matt was a part of developing the World Premiere of The Secret Life of Bees at The Atlantic Theatre Company, directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. He also appeared in Orpheus Descending at Theatre for a New Audience.

Matt DeAngelis also started the Janice Jam in memory of his mother, Janice, who passed from metastatic breast cancer in 2022. This annual event channels the magic of Broadway to honor those we’ve lost, uplift those fighting, and fund critical research. This event serves as a yearly celebration of Janice, her love for theater, and raising money for those affected by metastatic breast cancer.

An all-star group of performers is joining Matt and his wife, Christine Dwyer, this year. Ari Axelrod, Ashley Loren, Carrie St. Louis, Cassadee Pope, Derek Klena, Donald Webber Jr., Eric Michael Krop, Justin Matthew Sargent, Kara Lindsay, Laurie Hernandez, and Norm Lewis are all expected to participate in the show.

It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be) by Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato released the deluxe edition of her 2025 album, It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be).  The record contains eight new tunes that the “Confident” singer-songwriter co-wrote with Jason Evigan, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, MNEK, Sarah Hudson, and Zhone, who produced a majority of the deluxe version and the 2025 record. Songs include “Low Rise Jeans,” which made its debut on the former X Factor USA judge’s current North American tour, and two new collaborations, “Fantasy” (with Cobrah) and “Joshua Tree” (with Rose Gray). It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be) blends EDM and pop music with splendid results and contains some of Demi’s catchiest material of the 2020s so far. B+

Country music superstar Jason Aldean dropped his twelfth studio album, Songs About Us. Kurt Allison, John Edwards, Tully Kennedy, and Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar friend John Morgan formed the nucleus of the album’s songwriting team, with contributions from Ben Hayslip, Danny Majic, Jimmy Robbins, Lady A’s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, and the “Trouble with a Heartbreak” singer himself. David Lee Murphy, Luke Bryan, and his wife, Brittany, are the album’s featured artists. One of the major gripes I have with Songs About Us is that this record has too many filler tracks, which could have been saved for an undiscovered gems album. However, Songs About Us is filled with tunes that would satisfy the country rocker’s fans and might give listeners a case of the goosebumps or two. B-

It has been 12 years since Meghan Trainor entered the pop music scene with “All About That Bass.” Now, the former Australian Idol, The Four: Battle for Stardom,  and The Voice UK judge has released her seventh studio album, Toy with Me. Grant Boutin, Ellis, and Mike Sabath collaborated with Meghan Trainor on producing the album, while Caroline Ailin, Caroline Pennell, Justin Trainor, Poo Bear, Sean Douglas, and Scott Harris assisted with the songwriting process. As I listened to Toy with Me, it felt like Meghan was trying to capture the essence of what made us fall in love with her in the first place. While there are some genuine pieces of ear candy on Toy with Me, the album left me with an unsatisfied taste in my mouth. C-

Noah Kanan is turning into Generation Z’s Bob Dylan. Since Busyhead’s release in 2019, Noah Kanan has played a massive role in rekindling music lovers’ passion for Americana and alternative rock music. The “Northern Attitude” singer-songwriter reunited with Stick Season collaborator Gabe Simon, who co-produced Kanan’s fourth studio album. He also welcomed Amy Allen, Carrie K, and superstar songwriter-producer Aaron Dressner to the party.  The Great Divide is filled with tunes that can connect with the drama that Generation Z and their Millennial generation predecessors face today. Noah Kanan transforms allegories into superbly woven songs with spectacular guitar arrangements. I could see The Great Divide play a massive role in the 2026-27 awards season. A

“Hysteria” by Bebe Rexha

Bebe Rexha continues the countdown to her fourth studio album, Dirty Blonde, which is expected to be released on June 12 on her new home of Empire Distribution. The latest single, “Hysteria,” is a fast-tempo EDM pop track with a powerful, hypnotic beat that will demand listeners get up and dance. A-

“I Can’t Love You Anymore” by Ella Langley & Morgan Wallen

Ella Langley is one of country music’s hottest artists! The ACM and CMA Award-winning singer-songwriter released her sophomore studio album, Dandelion. Her duet with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” is set to be one of 2026’s biggest duets. The “Choosing Texas” recording artist collaborated with Alex Maxwell and Austin Goodloe to co-pen the lyrics, while Ben West joined Ella and Austin in the production studio. “I Can’t Love You Anymore” is a stunning collaboration and has the potential to be one of this year’s biggest country music events. A-

“Bring Your Love” by Madonna & Sabrina Carpenter

The music world exploded when the Queen of Pop joined Sabrina Carpenter on the Coachella stage a few weeks ago. Now, the “Manchild” performer joined Madonna for a new single off her highly anticipated sequel to her 2005 juggernaut Confessions on a Dance Floor. “Bring Your Love” brings together the pop music icons that will ignite fans’ hearts on dance floors everywhere. B+

“With This Tear” by Prince

The dearly missed Prince closes out the first May 2026 edition of Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar’s New Music Reviews! It is hard to believe that Prince passed away a decade ago. I remember driving to one of my favorite Kansas City coffee shops, The Roasterie, and the news popped up on my phone. I was shocked by the news, as we all thought that the Purple One would live forever. Recently, the Prince Estate dropped a new unreleased song from his vault, “With This Tear.” This tune is beautiful, and it is fantastic to hear his upper vocal register once again. Bravo, Prince! We will forever miss you! A+

It is a pleasure to welcome Tony Kieraldo to the Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.

Tony is a world-renowned pianist, composer, and musical director, known for his work with Postmodern Jukebox, musical director for Celebrate the Beat in Colorado, and a music teaching artist with the National Dance Institute in New York.  In August 2025, he released Golden Keys. This project reimagined James Bond’s iconic music for ragtime piano and voice. The album features collaborations with singers whom he collaborated with during his time with Postmodern Jukebox. He toured the album’s first iteration in the United Kingdom last year and will continue expanding the project this year.

His album, Hudson Ragtime Piano Suite, written during the pandemic, showcased Tony Kieraldo’s original compositions and the history of Hudson, New York’s five main streets.  He regularly collaborates with tap dance sensation Demi Remick, releasing arrangements that range from Taylor Swift to The Wizard of Oz.

In 2017, Tony conducted the critically acclaimed opera The Mother of Us All, which received reviews in both The New Yorker and The New York Times. He also performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and twice at the Obama White House. He also performed at iconic venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, the London Palladium, Town Hall, and the Ryman Auditorium.

On the latest episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Tony Kieraldo spoke about his time with Postmodern Jukebox and performing at legendary venues, including the White House and the Sydney Opera House. He also shared about the Golden Keys’ recording process, including his collaborations with Casey Abrams (“Live and Let Die”), Effie Passero (“From Russia with Love”), and Tia Simone (“Goldeneye”).

He got his start at the Midwest city’s storied Wild Hundreds, a proving ground that shaped his raw, reflective sound and entrepreneurial mindset. Blending lived truth with elevated ambition, Vi’s music captures both the weight of his origins and the clarity of an artist who built his own lane.

Vi City’s catalog has quietly amassed significant independent momentum. His latest project has generated over 2.8 million streams, with singles charting number 21 on the iTunes Hip-Hop chart, while his breakout record “U Deserve” peaked at number 55 on the iTunes R&B chart. His audience continues to expand globally, now reaching 97K monthly Spotify listeners, over 7 million YouTube views, and over 228K Instagram followers.

Disney went country! The Mouse House released a new extended play that took some of their modern-day classics and handed them to some of country music’s top talents. Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown superbly tackled “Beauty & The Beast,” while Dasha and Restless Road surprisingly elevated Disney Channel songs, “The Climb” and “She’s So Gone,” to new levels of excellence. Breland also transformed “Go the Distance” into a beautiful R&B and country ballad. While I was disappointed in Maddie & Tae’s sleepy and unenthusiastic take on “You’ll Be in My Heart,” I hope that Disney considers releasing more volumes of Main Street Country, as it will be intriguing to see which of the genre’s top recording artists give their twist on the iconic songbook. B-

Rap icon Snoop Dogg recently dropped his twenty-second(!) studio album, 10 Til’ Midnight. Revolt reported that the “Gin and Juice” rapper recruited a plethora of collaborators, such as October London, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz (the standout track “Steps”), and Trinidad James (“Pop My S**t”) to assist with recording and production. 10 Til’ Midnight showcases the former Voice coach confronting his critics in tracks such as the catchy “Lied 2 U” and the percussion-heavy “Slid Off,” while advising jealous rivals to stand down in the intriguing “Stop Counting My Poccets.”  With slick collaborations and snarky commentary, 10 Til’ Midnight showcases why Snoop is considered one of rap’s GOATS.   B

In Another Life – EP by Tristan

Singer, songwriter, and Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar friend Tristan released his latest EP, In Another Life. Throughout the EP, the “Some Kind of Way” recording artist takes listeners on a journey that features hypnotic vocals and splendid instrumental arrangements. “One Night in Bangkok” by Aaron Tveit & the Cast of CHESS

Tony Award winner Aaron Tveit is taking the Great White Way by storm with the 2025 revival of CHESS! During the early months leading up to the show, the show producers released a preview of the show’s iconic song, “One Night in Bangkok,” and it was fire! On April 10, CHESS released the full track, and it did not disappoint. The Sweeney Todd and Wicked alum showcased his sassy side that would make Tim Rice, Benny Andersson, and Bjorn Ulvaeus proud. This cover of “One Night in Bangkok” will make audiences head to New York City’s Imperial Theatre to catch the full show! B+

“Obvious” by Chris Brown

Chris Brown surprised fans with two big announcements – a joint tour with fellow R&B superstar Usher – and a new single, “Obvious,” which is a single off his upcoming album, BROWN. Produced by RoccStar, “Obvious” showcases some of Chris’s best vocals so far this decade, along with why the “Forever” performer is celebrating 21 years of releasing music. B+

“RUNWAY” by Lady Gaga featuring Doechii

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one of 2026’s most anticipated films! Interscope Records released the first single off the Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway-starring sequel, “RUNWAY.”  The song features a collaboration with Grammy and Oscar-winning Lady Gaga and rising star Doechii. The ladies crafted the house-meets-Hip-Hop track with Andrew Watt, Bruno Mars, Cirkut, and D’Mile, who all co-produced the song. Both artists shone on this slickly produced track and will make listeners transform their walkway into a runway. A

“Kaleidoscope” by Michael Lazar

Recording artist and Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar friend Michael Lazar dropped a new single, “Kaleidoscope.” The song is the first preview of his latest project, the EP Kaleidoscope. Michael transported listeners to outer space, and this song could serve as the soundtrack for an epic anime opening or the closing credits of a Prime Video or Netflix space drama. B+

“Mr. Know It All” by Teddy Swims

Teddy Swims wraps this edition of Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar’s New Music Reviews! Before he took the 2026 Coachella stage, he released a new single, “Mr. Know It All.” This song is pure fire! The song’s production reminds me so much of Phil Collins’ classic 80s pop anthems, and Teddy’s vocals gave me goosebumps! “Mr. Know It All” is a definite contender for 2026 Song of the Year. A+
