It’s going to be a major part of my involvement with The Navigators in the near future, and as a result I need to start specifically reserving time for it each week.

In this week’s episode I talk about the struggle to give my attention only to what needs it in that moment rather than allowing it to be hijacked by so many smaller, less urgent matters. Technology is a major culprit in this battle. I’ve tried to come up with some creative solutions to keep myself from getting lost in a sea of digital clutter.

If you’re a student at FSU taking finals this week, good luck on all your tests!

In this episode I follow up on a question I received from a friend who read my birthday essay last week. He was interested to know how I planned on becoming physically and spiritually healthy, something I mentioned as a goal of mine for the coming year.

See that. I actually do care about my readers and listeners. Ask me questions and I’ll address them, maybe even “on air.”

I know I sound a bit disinterested in this episode. I’m actually just running out of steam.

Thanks to Austin for the great question. He asked me about this during Old Man Breakfast, a 6:30am Friday feast of eggs, grits, toast and coffee with some great friends.

Here’s the birthday essay I’m talking about. I briefly mention wanting to become physically and spiritually healthy in the second to last paragraph.

To help me get to sleep I’ve been using an iPhone app called Brainwave.
When I memorize scripture I use the process I learned through the topical memory system.

Another unscheduled hiatus has come to an end. In today’s episode I talk about growing up, how it means different things for different people. I muse over the differences between being grown up and feeling grown up.

This episode is a bit self-indulgent and I ramble on more than usual. I think there are a few good points in there somewhere.

I gave the first message last Thursday. Now I have the challenge of creating a compelling sequel, which I’ll teach this coming Thursday.

Part one of the message series will be online soon. I’ll update this post with the link once it is.

The FSU Navigators Podcast is pretty sweet.
Recordings of several of my Nav Night messages are available online if you’re interested.

Happy MLK Day! In today’s episode I talk about how we all have personal non-negotiables, things we choose to hang on to no matter what the cost. I’ve found that I often choose my non-negotiables without careful consideration. That lack of intentional decision-making can lead to trouble.

Man, it’s cold in Connecticut. In this week’s episode I share the topic of my two-week message series I’m scheduled to teach for the FSU Navigators early on in the spring 2012 semester.

I think I ought to clarify the final spoiler. Each December I begin to evaluate whether I should stay on staff with the Navs in the upcoming fall semester and, if the answer is yes, how I can best serve the ministry. I’ve started that process for fall 2012. There’s a good chance I won’t make a decision until after I’ve given these talks.

If you want you can learn about what I do with the ministry.

It’s so good to be back together. Let’s never fight again, okay? (Wait, no, that’s not right…) Today I talk about loneliness and how it comes at you at odd times. This is something I noticed during my time away from Tallahassee. I’ve shared it with a few people but would like to get more thoughts on the subject. I can think of at least two listeners who probably have a lot to say on the subject, unfortunately.

I think toward the end I babbled even more than usual. Just when I thought I was getting good at this.

This week’s podcast episode was inspired by yesterday’s sermon at Wildwood Church given by Jay Eastman. Jay is from Berlin and while I heard his name many times while I was there I had never met him until this weekend. He taught from Matthew 5 with what I thought was some intriguing insight.

The podcast is back after an unplanned hiatus. Today I talk about planning my upcoming trip to Kentucky, both for the Navigators National Conference and my writing retreat.

I still haven’t been able to fix the Facebook audio player integration. Maybe I’ll find time this week to tackle that project.

In this week’s episode I talk about what has been called by people wiser than me “the tyranny of the urgent.” Essentially it refers to when deadlines crowd out the things that are really important to you. I have a plan to combat the problem.

Wouldn’t you know it. As soon as I brag about my fancy Facebook audio player I find out that Facebook changed the Open Graph protocol such that my code no longer produce the player. Ugh.

I recorded this episode yesterday but didn’t have time to post it until today. In this episode I talk about the Navigators staff meeting I’m attending in Ocala, Florida this week. Specifically, I speak about how I hope to be a team player again instead of a loner in terms of how I approach college ministry.

This week I talk about a workshop I’m creating and will teach this Saturday at a college ministry beach retreat. The workshop is on leadership, a subject I’ve never taught before. I spend most of this episode talking about the resources I’m using and a little about the direction I’m choosing to take with the material.

In this week’s episode I ask that you indulge me as I geek out and talk about my experiences installing Mac OS X Lion on two different Macs. Even if you’re not into that sort of thing, the first story is pretty interesting even without any technical knowledge.

At one point in this podcast I say that I wish my computer was roaring like it used to. I apologize for the unintentional terrible pun.

Just for grins, I counted how many bounces it took for Chrome to open when I went to write this post. It bounced fifty times before opening. Yes, fifty. Ugh.

I share a little of the content from that presentation that you probably haven’t heard elsewhere before, including what Facebook EdgeRank is all about. I also explain why I’m a little anxious even though I really enjoy public speaking.
