Sometimes you might want to load the content of an entry without leaving or refreshing the page, and it’s possible to do just that with AJAX. In this tutorial we’ll look at how to swap the content of an area on your page with a new entry AND animate the transition with some nice effects.

A future recipe for ExpressionEngine?

I’ve just finished making a really tidy events calendar using ExpressionEngine. It keeps the events in one weblog, venues in another, uses custom fields to add a Google Maps link for each venue, and pulls it all together in a template group that splits events into upcoming and archived. Just the kind of project that EE handles with aplomb, and I’d love to share it with you but, erm… well, that’s the problem.

Structure

Structure is a new way to build ExpressionEngine sites. It forgoes the current template_group/template setup and creates pages that are all editable through a tree sitemap view. Now, traditional page style content and multiple entry pages can live within the same area.

Usng a mixture of embed templates, variables, and conditionals, here’s a technique to create multiple page layouts from one “page constructor”.

We thought it only fitting that the first Jambor-ee interview was directed at <strike>pMachine</strike> EllisLab. Rick, Paul, Leslie and Derek kindly agreed to take questions from those of you signed up to our pre-launch mailing list.
