This was released as a single in 2009, and it’s really just great. Love the smooth jazz laid back style. The piano is good. Really nice arrangement. But it truly is Darius’ magical vocal abilities that makes the song so great. Darius’ baritone truly is versatile. His rough, pleasantly-on-the-bottom of the pitch, sound from Hootie. His voice seemed to develop into this rich, precise sound on his fabulous Learn to Live album. Now this Christmas tune showcases Darius’ smooth and velvety rich, gorgeous baritone. Very nice.

The post Christmas Albums pt. 2 :: Darius Rucker first appeared on Jamon Abercrombie.

What?! Wait, I was looking for Christmas music … what’s Rodney Carrington doing with an album?

You may be thinking the same think I was. There’s a nip in the air, so I started looking for new Christmas music to add to my collection. Christmas music might be the one musical styling where I love hearing different people doing the same song in different versions. But I was a little surprised seeing Rodney Carrington on the list. I figured it was just another of his comedy albums … but OH SO NOT!

I have to highly recommend this album. If you know Rodney Carrington (comedian/actor … typically crude), you will be VERY VERY VERY pleasantly surprised at this disc. It’s as if we’re in some sort of twilight zone … Rodney has a great tone, and the songs are fairly mainstream, but with a little flair of his own.

Album review from Zune:

Coming from a guy who has an album named Morning Wood, a song called “Rhymes with Truck” and who has appeared naked as a jaybird on an album cover, one might think “Make it Christmas” is a “put the kids to bed” affair, ripe with breast jokes and beer drinking that usually comes with Rodney Carrington.

It’s anything but, as having teenaged kids has sent Carrington’s moral compass in a completely different direction – one that points to tradition, family values, good will toward men, and comfy sweaters … especially at Christmastime.

Make it Christmas is the country comedian/actor turning Johnnie Mathis, with his surprisingly good and extremely comfortable singing voice delivering a mixed bag of Christmas standards; new holiday music (including Carrington’s own “The Presents Under the Tree [Better be for Me]” and a handful of well-chosen, lesser-known numbers such as David Foster’s “Grown Up Christmas List.”

While few will be knocked out by his vocal stylings (op. I disagree – see below**), his likeability and warmth are what matter most. There is plenty of both front and center, with polished studio band and orchestra support led by producer/arranger Steve Dorff. The bittersweet and poinant “Camouflage and Christmas Lights” is that rare holiday song that speaks directly to military families, while the title track asks the age-old question of why peace on earth isn’t a year round concern.

Make it Christmas ends up both an above average celebrity Christmas album and an easy recommendation to his legion of fans.

** I think this is an understatement. Anyone who knows Rodney, his comedy stylings and his vocal tone just when speaking would be blown away to hear this album.

The post Christmas Albums pt. 1 :: Rodney Carrington first appeared on Jamon Abercrombie.

UPDATE: so, some people have had some trouble with the bracket. Here’s what you do:

click the link below

click ” Championship Bracket”

click “Predict It” (i think?)

then radio buttons should show up where you can select your choices

click “enter” when you have each round picked

UPDATE 2: Well, it looks like you have to register to be able to fill out the bracket online. If you don’t want to take the time, simply look at the name matchups (i.e. – Baylee v. Dinger, Easton v. Dixie, etc) and determine which like better in the “tournament” until you get to only one name left.

I personally believe this has to be one of the greatest endings a TV series has given us. There seems to have been a great divide in the audience with this ending. I think it can be summed up in a simple comparison:

Those who HATED the ending were looking for answers.

Those who LOVED the ending were looking for resolution.

And this is a fine line, but in the grand scheme you have to understand the concept as a whole. I don’t think you can single out bits and pieces of the show that you may not understand and need answers to the details to enjoy and be satisfied with the whole. I am in the resolution came, and think the show resolved itself beautifully.

To try and simplify it, the Sideways world is nothing more than their “waiting room” after their death. Everything that happened on the island is what was “real” life. The entire show was not a Purgatory type existence, and I don’t even think the Sideways world was either b/c the characters didn’t have to wrestle or overcome their sins. I think it was more intended of a place to reflect on their life and death and remember what was instrumental and important in that.

What was Dharma? Dharma is what we were told Dharma was. What about polar bears, time travel, Tunisia? The problem for some is the time travel, strange phenomenon and other properties of the island, but I think that’s in the greatness of the show; the writers applied real world theories and science and religion to create this island that somehow had these strange abilities. I think in order to enjoy the show, there has to be some faith or general acceptance of the magical properties surrounding the island, so that you can move on with the story and not get bogged down with the details.

This ending was great the first time, extraordinary the second time and unbelievable the third … i may even go at it a few more times. Each re-watch completes your understanding of how the pieces fit together, and i think makes the show that much more epic. I was thoroughly satisfied with the way LOST wrapped up. This is not to say there aren’t questions I would still like to have answered, but those questions don’t limit me from understanding and enjoying the concept, entertainment and escape the show provided.

The post LOST :: The Final Scenes first appeared on Jamon Abercrombie.
