So here’s my first 5 faces, to start with… I’ll post another 5 tomorrow

#1 ~  This is a detail pic of a painting I’ve just completed on the cover of a little golden book (more on that idea some other time). This figure started out as a drawing exercise, just like the ones below…

#2 ~ I know these drawings look strange… I’m using this drawing exercise to stimulate my imagination & loosen up my drawing style.

#3 ~ Some sort of bird woman emerged here.

#4 ~ I think this one has a kind of asian feel…

#5 ~ And an angel, which just shows how unplanned the images are with this technique – I’m definitely not an angel or fairy person

Faces are something that I feel I need more work on, so it would have been fantastic to join in from the start.

I did do it here at home on my lonesome, but didn’t see the point of joining in online when the thing was almost over.

So today when I saw a button on someone’s blog, I rushed to grab the button and join in.
I can’t even remember whose blog I was looking at, I was just so damn excited!

Since there are 31 days in May, and 29 faces to create, I haven’t missed anything.

I’ll try to post pics daily starting tomorrow, but you know how reliable I am when it comes to regular posts.

Anyways, I’ll update as often as I can here and on my facebook page, so you can keep up on either site.

It was the most fun to paint, and I’ve remained in love with it since I painted it back in February.
I haven’t felt that way about any of the others for more than a week, at best.

It was also a complete departure in style from what I’ve concentrated on up until now.
Looser, messier, more fun and spontaneous…  I’ve been using my fingers a lot!

So I finally took the hint and decided to explore that avenue further.

Turns out there’s a lot down that road to enjoy, and a whole new leg of my artistic journey to experience.

I’ve been so productive using this style over the weekend, completing two canvases, and more on my work table.

The first, For Ayla, is for my niece’s 21st birthday, and the second is titled Teapot Lady in Teal.

I’m considering adding her to my etsy store.

It feels wonderful to have found a style that flows so naturally for me.

What do you think of it?

I’m quite happy with them, they’d make lovely larger pieces, and I’m thinking of doing so with at least one this week.

There’s a couple of other canvases on the go at the moment, but I tend to jump between them so that’s not a problem -  I have to do something while the paint dries!

I also refined my whirlie birds last night.  I love the feathers swirling around like long ribbons, but now I want something more subtle, to fit in with my other creatures that I’m creating.

The new look birds are much more in the style of the three creatures above.  Can’t show you a picture yet, because I’ve only done sketches.

I can tell you that the eyes are lazier, tails are more feather-like and their legs look kind of human.  Sounds intriguing when I write it down like that!

I’m working to create a set of creatures that will give my paintings a recognisable style.
Not sure if that’s part of maturing as an artist, but I do think that if I want my work to sell on a regular basis I need to be consistent.

I’ll still be jumping around with different techniques and colours, but using the same sort of drawings as a basis.

So, I’ve got girls, cats, owls & birds.
