Hand crafted and casted hearts bracelet.

A new clint always means cool new stuff to photograph.  I’ve started a collaboration to document the jewelry of Steve Page a well respected area jeweler and member of the Baltimore Gem Cutters Guild.  This image is from his hand crafted & casted silver bracelet line and it falls in line with Valentines day.  I photographed this hearts bracelet along with a few other pieces I plan on uploading to the blog galleries in the coming days.  It’s very heavy with a fantastic magnetic clasp.  No skimping on the precious metals here. Wild Ponies of Assateague (Click to enlarge)

This is a  film transfer worked up in photoshop from a Nikon CoolScan.   This image is special to me because I love camping on Assateague Island.  As I remember, it was the morning after an early winter storm and the ponies had found their way onto the beach and they were enduring the crisp morning breeze.  That’s when the older pony looked up at me.  She had obviously endured many storms.  I could see it in her eyes.

Temple Lock

These handcrafted locks are very popular among the new-age set.  Temple locks are supposedly used on temple and shrine gates in Tibet.  Then, the locks are sold as a shrine artifact to raise money for the shrine.  The Deity represented on this temple lock is of the Goddess Tara.  So this lock should’ve come from a temple or shine dedicated to Tara.  The lock is said to be magically endowed with the power of that Deity for it is truly a shrine artifact.  Photographed on black Low-Key background at f32 with a 2 second exposure.

Egyptian styled spiral link chain bracelets

Janice Pumphrey created these Copper, Brass and anodized wire bracelets fashioned after an ancient Egyptian design.   The links are interlocked together by the spirals to create the chain bracelet.  With the cost of silver and gold skyrocketing, semiprecious metals are becoming all the vogue among  jewelry makers.  Especially on prototype designs like these when the artist is exploring new design ideas to bring into production.    Photographed at 200 a.s.a. at f-32 with a 2 second exposure on black velvet presentation pillows under a light tent with 3 studio lights.

I consider this image a failure.   The lighting was wrong and the stems just vanished into the high key white.  Instead of looking like glass stems they ghost out into the background.  Yes, I could spend an hour in Photoshop but why not just reshot?  I’m going to revisit this image again at another time but first I want to shoot some image tests of clear glass in high key white.

There’s nothing like photographing chrome.  Here’s a sampling of a Chromeware / Barware assignment we’ve been working on in the studio.  Chrome can be the hardest thing to photo photograph professionally yet when done right it can become high art.
