With easy access to the internet and popularity of social media, starting a home-based business has never been more affordable or easier.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you love natural products and looking for a business in this area to work from home, here are some things to consider before you get started.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Why consider partnering with a direct selling business?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The direct selling business has been around for decades with established and respected companies such as Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics. These companies are true pioneers for the younger direct sales companies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As with any type of business, whether or not you can make money selling natural products or any product is up to you. You need to know if you're willing to talk about your products; will you network so you can meet more people? You'll need to meet with people that want to see the products or hear more about your business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The problem that many people get themselves into and I've done this in the past is thinking that loving the products is all there is to be successful.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are a lot of things I love including clothes, jewelry, home decor but I know to sell these products I would have to hold "parties" in order to have any kind of success. Knowing that I don't enjoy hosting parties or asking people to host parties, it doesn't matter that I love these products, because the party plan format is not a good fit for me.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's critical to know what you're willing to do to grow your business otherwise you'll be choosing the wrong business for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you love natural products and want to start selling them, make sure you love the products but find out what type of monthly requirements are expected from you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's an example from a friend who signed up for a bath and body products company because she loves the products. Immediately she shared with everyone she knew and signed up a couple consultants. She loved the products so much she never looked at how she was going to get paid other than the retail profit. She hasn't earned a dime from her team members because she personally has to sell $500 a month.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That may not sound like a lot for a traditional retailer but as direct sales consultants that's at least 2+ parties a month before you'll earn from your team's efforts. And 2 parties a month is easy when you're brand new and friends are willing to help you out but you need to think in terms of months ... what happens after I've already asked my friends, and a friend's friend?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Ask yourself:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Am I willing to hussle to get more parties booked?&lt;br /&gt;Am I willing to supplement by doing online parties, hand out catalogs, do vendor boutiques, and do whatever it takes to hit those monthly requirements?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's not something a lot of people think about because they're so caught up in the amazing products. I know because I've been there! I'm a sucker for all things that smell like lavender! I've been using 7th Generation for years so I was excited to see how this compares to 7th.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;The price point is competitively priced ($6 for a 24 oz bottle) considering it's all natural, organic ingredients. If there's one area in your home I would recommend using all natural products is your kitchen. It's where you do the cooking and if you have kids like I do- I cringe at the thought of spraying my counter tops where I make snacks and food for my family with toxic chemicals.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"&gt;I really liked this cleaner- the scent is subtle and refreshing and it's not bad on the tough stains I had on my stove. When you spray this on your fruit, it feels slimy at first, but rinses off nicely. I'm a fan of buying organic fruits especially apples, strawberries , and other fruits that are heavily sprayed with pesticides. If you're not one to buy organic fruits, I think pre-washing your fruit and vegetables would be a safe bet against exposure to pesticides. Some direct sales consultants that joined ground floor business opportunities only to see it shut down might opt for a more established company in their next venture. I think it really comes down to the individual. There are clear benefits to joining new companies versus established ones.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Randy Gage, a well-known network marketer, said in one of his blog posts that you can make some money with an established company that has been around for decades but you'll never build a massive team like the "early adopters". The early adopters are the consultants that joined during the ground floor phase and grew their teams to hundreds and thousands of consultants.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's not easy weighing the pros and cons of ground floor opportunities because finding the "it" company is the holy grail of the direct selling business. With new companies launching all the time, how do you know which one is right for you?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you like predictability and want a sure thing, I don't recommend a ground floor opportunity, because there will be growing pains with every new company. But if you like new challenges, being at the forefront, working with the company at the early stages of development, being an "early adopter" as Randy Gage said, then joining a new company might be a perfect for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You must know what you want and what you can and cannot handle. I'm a go with the flow kind of person and a risk taker by nature so &lt;i&gt;newness &lt;/i&gt;is exciting to me. But I also wouldn't take on a new company unless it has potential in the marketplace.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I find the most exciting and potentially lucrative with ground floor opportunities is being the first consultant to share and spread the business to others. Particularly if the company offers products that I'm passionate about sharing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's also refreshing not having to compete with hundreds or thousands of already existing consultants. I know some might disagree with me on saturation but it's a fact that if there are dozens of consultants selling the same jewelry, handbags, skincare, make-up, or home decor for the&lt;b&gt; same company&lt;/b&gt; ... the share of the pie is going to be smaller.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is one of the reasons CAbi, a high end direct sales clothing company limits the number of consultants per area. When there are too many consultants that are &lt;b&gt;actively &lt;/b&gt;building the business in one area, sales will be affected as well as recruiting new consultants.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I don't think there are right or wrong answers when it comes to whether or not someone should join a ground floor direct sales company. What you should be asking instead:&amp;nbsp;if being with a brand new company is right for YOU.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;There are clear benefits:&lt;/b&gt; being one of the first consultants, an early adopter, with the ability to add new consultants and build a big business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;There are also disadvantages:&lt;/b&gt; dealing with the growing pains and challenges with every new company such as products being out of stock, corporate office not handling customer needs, lack of money to grow, lack of leadership, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Instead of listening to the naysayers because they're everywhere, know what you want, trust yourself, do your research, and go with what feels right for you. After all, what is really a sure thing? The key to your success is having a variety of products and juggling the inventory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If this isn't something you're experienced with or don't have the capital to get started- there are other options but I believe one of the best ways is to partner with a direct selling business.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Direct sales&lt;/b&gt; is an established business model and continues to bring in &lt;b&gt;billions of dollars per year!&lt;/b&gt;&amp;nbsp;In fact, I just saw a &amp;nbsp;marketing stats in this article: &lt;a href="http://jan.ocregister.com/2012/04/30/whom-do-americans-trust-when-they-shop/78838/" target="_blank"&gt;Whom Do Americans Trust When They Shop?&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;b&gt;Friends &lt;/b&gt;was #1, followed by Brand's Website, and Online Reviews. It's not surprising as direct sales thrives on selling directly to people you know. Typically from women or men that attend shows or product presentations, they fall in love with the products, become shoppers, and tell others about it. &lt;b&gt;Word of mouth marketing is powerful especially when shared among trusted friends!&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The advantage for you when you partner with a direct sales company is the low start up cost! Some companies have special sign up specials and if your budget is tight look for those specials and sign up then. But on average, you can partner with a direct sales company for $99, a bit more or less.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most of these "starter kits" come with a variety of products, catalogs, training guides, and an e-commerce website. The majority of the hard work in creating a business is already done for you. Think of it as a franchise but significantly cheaper and without all the financial hassles and big risks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The key is finding a company with products you &lt;b&gt;absolutely love&lt;/b&gt;, partner with an upline/mentor whom you like and would enjoying working with, and a company with a leadership team that cares about the consultants and customers. I also love a company that's social media savvy, a founder or CEO that actually gets involved in their company Facebook Page or Twitter and engages with the consultants and customers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Direct sales has come a long way and thriving in this high tech era. I had an opportunity to sample their organic products and they are awesome! Based on some of the comments/updates on Facebook pages that the Chartreuse consultants were surprised and shocked by the announcement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Having friends that were part of other direct sales companies that closed down- I definitely feel for them! But the good news is that people rebound quickly and there are a lot of wonderful direct sales business opportunities to choose from whenever these consultants are ready to explore a new venture.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This also reminds me that as wonderful as a company is you'll never know when it's going to fold, not even the top consultants of the company knew what was happening behind closed doors. For now, I'm choosing &amp;nbsp;to stick with 100% natural, no green washing ingredients when it comes to my skin care products.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What this means is that I have to be &lt;b&gt;self educated&lt;/b&gt; when it comes to choosing the right skin care products. I hope these common mistakes that I've made will shed some light on your journey to a more natural, healthier skin for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;#1 The "newest product" on the market&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have half a dozen friends, if not more, that sells some type of skin care and personal care products. There's always a new company that promises to deliver instant results. I've sampled and bought dozens and dozens of products - from high end prices to medium and inexpensive. What I realized is that being a &lt;b&gt;product inspector&lt;/b&gt; is key to not falling for the "next thing". Harsh chemicals, synthetic parabens, petrochemicals, fragrance ... are toxic for my skin. If you've experienced break-outs, rashes, eczema, I highly recommend sticking with &lt;b&gt;100% natural and toxic free products.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a former acne sufferer- products that supposedly treat acne actually made my skin worst. I highly recommend sticking with 100% natural ingredients that you can actually pronounced i.e. products made from essential oils like lavender, shea butter, tea tree, willow bark extract, and so forth.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;#3 Try before you buy&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm not likely to buy skin care products without trying samples first because everybody has different skin types. If you're working with a consultant or company that doesn't offer free samples, find one that does. If a consultant wants to earn your business, she/he will happily send you free samples.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There's a wealth of information online to get the answers you need when it comes to choosing the best skin care for you. Be educated on what you put on your skin and find a consultant that will give you free samples to try. She was most interested in the compensation plan and how much money she can potentially earn. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No doubt this is one of the &lt;b&gt;most &lt;/b&gt;important elements when evaluating a direct selling business opportunity. Although knowing the compensation plan is important, I was concerned that she was more focused on "making money" rather than choosing something that is &lt;b&gt;right &lt;/b&gt;for her. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By "right", I mean finding a business that fits with her values, passion, interests ... the things that will &lt;b&gt;keep her in the business&lt;/b&gt; when the initial excitement wears off, and it will. People aren't committed to money, they're committed to their values and the things that are most meaningful to them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So how do you make money and still do what you're passionate about? What do you look for when starting a direct sales business? This isn't always easy because we don't always know what we're deeply passionate about. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes people sign up spur of the moment without doing any deep soul searching. Sometimes people sign up for the fun and camaraderie especially if it's a fun team environment. And other times people start a direct sales business because they have a deep passion to educate and change lives. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But what I've found is that without passion for the business, you won't find the motivation to get working on your business. It's nearly impossible to commit to anything without passion. And if you're not working on the business, it doesn't matter what the pay out is, because zero activity equals zero pay.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have friends in direct sales that represent different companies and products. When you get to the heart of WHY people stay with the company, it comes down to the products, the company, and team support (not necessarily in that order) that are based on personal values that are important to them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I've found with my female pals, the products are important to them as well as the team support, leaders of the company, and various other reasons why they love the business they're in. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of my favorite things about the direct selling industry is that there are thousands of products and companies to choose from. If you're lacking passion or if a product isn't working for you, find something else that moves you, and build your passion around that business. There is a business in direct sales that is right for YOU. Notice I said 'some' and not all because this business isn't a good fit for everyone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But with the right training and preparation the success rate could be much higher. There are numerous reasons why so many promising superstars fail but first ... the most obvious is this:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are numerous problems with using the warm market approach and here is my take on it:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Traditionally, direct sales has relied on and teaches consultants to sell to their friends and family through the home party plan format. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Basically you invite your friends, family, and neighbors i.e. your warm market list to your first product launch. The goal is to sell products and sponsor anyone at the party who might be interested in joining the business with you and get additional bookings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This strategy has worked for the direct sales industry since the Tupperware and Amway days but times have changed. There are thousands of opportunities today. And with most people online to search for products and to buy products there’s a lot more competition.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With that said, selling directly to consumers is a powerful way to move products. Think of Costco food demos or your grocery stores. We’re more likely to buy if we can sample and try the product in person. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The problem is that it’s challenging for direct sellers to &lt;b&gt;consistently &lt;i&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;get people to attend their home parties. The warm market strategy works to some degree because your friends and family are supportive and want to help. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But if you don’t learn how to market your business beyond your warm market you’ll run out of potential customers to sell to and quickly. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Without leads, your business will cease to exist, especially if you have the type of business that is non-consumable i.e. home décor, jewelry, collectible items that people aren’t likely to buy on a recurring basis. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let’s be honest here, when the good times were rolling, people were more likely to splurge but with the economy still shaky, people are cutting back. When gas prices are over $3 a gallon people are going to drive less and spend money on the necessities such as food and groceries.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That’s not to say people aren’t buying because we &lt;b&gt;love &lt;/b&gt;to buy but the masses have become more selective on what they’re buying. There are bargains abound with retail slashing prices everywhere you go. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a direct seller, you need to compete online, offline, with other direct sellers, and business owners. As I said, the competition is fierce but not entirely doom either if ...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You learn the right marketing skills. So if you’ve made it this far in my article it’s not all doom and gloom. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hopefully the point I’m trying to make is this … there are &lt;b&gt;thousands &lt;/b&gt;of &lt;a href="http://www.aprioribeauty.com/ic/stoll"&gt;direct sales opportunities&lt;/a&gt; to choose from. Do your research and think hard about the product need in the marketplace. And price points. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If it takes you the same amount of time and resources to promote a $10 product versus a $50 product earning the same 30% commission … it might be wiser to consider the higher point item. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Not all opportunities are created equal so do a thorough research. Think about product need in the marketplace. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;*Is it a product that people are already using which means it’s an easier sell? &lt;br /&gt;*Is it a one-time purchase OR can you get recurring business from it? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Regardless of the type of business you choose understand that &lt;b&gt;marketing &lt;i&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;and the right kind is what keeps your business growing. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Without marketing, your business will die. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So there’s nothing wrong with selling to your warm market but it only works to a degree.
