Took a day trip to Rosslyn Chapel, just south of Edinburgh. If the name rings a bell, yes, it’s the one where a part of the Da Vinci Code was based and filmed, which would explain why it was packed with tourists (and a cat that decided to sit in on the talk inside the chapel).

Probably oft overlooked, there are the ruins of the Rosslyn Castle just down the road.

We do not get out of Glasgow often enough. This must be addressed.

Spanish Baroque Kelvingrove (June 29: 181/365)

It’s hard to resist stopping to admire (and photograph) the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, especially at night.

It was built for the 1901 International Exhibition in Spanish Baroque style out of the same red sandstone that is so common in Glasgow. Without going too far into a history or mythology lesson (it was not built backwards), allow me to say one thing: during the exhibition the building was surrounded by many other (temporary) pavilions, some that seemed even grander than the Kelvingrove. Google it and ponder why they weren’t all left standing or built to last.

All that remain of the exhibition are the Kelvingrove and the Sunlight Cottages a bit up the way in the park.

Black seems to be the quintessential colour choice for cars nowadays. From what I can tell, and I’m getting conflicting information from different sources on the order, it appears the four most common car colours are black, white, silver and grey (yes, there is a distinction between the last two).

How unimaginative.

Missing Building (June 26: 178/365)

How do you know you have not been to an area for a while? When an entire building has disappeared. The building at the corner of Dumbarton Road and Keith Street, which used to house a Comet store before its demise, has been demolished.

I’m told it will be replaced by student housing.

In Apprehension How Like A God! (June 25: 177/365)

I’ve seen similar images of the two-faced box around the West End of Glasgow over the past weeks, and now a full body image with a quote has appeared on the side of the Gregory Building, by the steps leading down to Ashton Lane.

No idea what it is supposed to represent, but the quote appears to be from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet (Act II, Scene ii).

This poor little stuffed dog was spread out all over a street in Kelvinside, with much of its innards spread so far and wide that it looked like either snow or grit.

I really miss having a camera with a decent zoom. The bee in the photo kept flying into my camera and into my hand when I was trying to take a close up of it on some flowers in University Gardens.
