Engagement Photography in Boulder Colorado + Allix and Nate

When Jason and I met up to grab a drink before their engagement photography session in Boulder, Allix & Nate told us they haven’t taken one good picture together in Colorado! They believe that in every picture one of them looks weird (I think they both must be crazy because they’re adorable). We were faced with the challenge of overcoming their years of bad luck in a single afternoon of photography! Luckily, we were up for the task and they photographed beautifully! They have such a fun, playful chemistry and were absolute naturals in front of the camera. A fantastic rain storm blew through Boulder just before we started shooting – so it was actually perfect Colorado weather for the shoot.

Allix is a University of Colorado at Boulder graduate, and they both love Boulder. We had a great time waiting for the storm to pass getting to know them better. We got started on Pearl Street, walked through a neighborhood, and finished up back on Pearl Street at the Boulder Book Store.

Allix & Nate are working with Gabby of Save the Date Events for their July 2011 wedding! We couldn’t be happier to be their wedding photographers.

Keystone Wedding Photography: Roxanne + John

When John and Roxanne hired Jason and I as their wedding photographers, we knew it was going to be an amazing experience. After shooting their downtown Denver engagement portraits we knew we’d met a very special couple. John and Roxanne are lovely and their wedding day was no exception. Their wedding was super sweet, intimate, filled with love, and very warm and sunny! It takes two gondola rides to reach the summit of the Keystone Mountain wedding ceremony and reception site and the view is SO worth it. With the help of Julie with Classic Creations they orchestrated a gorgeous mountain top wedding, complete with Layla, their uber-adorable yellow lab, as ring bearer. Roxanne even made a special flower collar with a diamond ring on it for Layla to wear. So cute and fun to photograph.

During their reception the band, Chase n the Dream, played and were absolutely amazing. The reception also had a surprise birthday cake for John from his bride and even a little karaoke! We were able to steal the bride and groom away from their rocking party for few sunset wedding portraits. Beautiful couple in front of a beautiful landscape – can’t go wrong!

We worked alongside Rising Moon Video and can’t wait to see the wedding highlights.

John and I were talking about how stunning Roxanne was and he said ( I can’t remember the middle part exactly) “she’s perfect… the dress and everything are beautiful, but she’s perfect.” Sigh. I love love.

As you may have guessed, the groomsmen were watching the World Cup – USA quarter-final’s match before the wedding. Nothing goes better with an amazing soccer game than a Balvenie Single-Malt Scotch and an afternoon Colorado Wedding!

One of the most amazing moments we were fortunate to photograph was their first look. John’s smile was unrestrained when he saw his bride for the fist time. Such a sweet moment.

Denver Engagement Photography – Katie and Kevin

Katie and Kevin (along with their two sweet dogs) headed out with Jason and I for a Denver engagement photography session at Cheesman Park and then around the corner at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Katie and Kevin really wanted their engagement session at the Denver Botanic Gardens because Kevin proposed there (super romantic and cute), but didn’t want to miss out on photographs with their puppies. So, we started at Cheesman with the dogs who were very excited by everything around them! Katie and Kevin were troopers and had a blast while their dogs stalked squirrels in the trees. When you’ve got dogs with you on your photography shoots, you go with the flow!

For the second, more romantic half of their engagement session we moved to The Denver Botanic Gardens (without the dogs). This tender couple were able to enjoy some alone time and we were able to capture some nice portraits in such a gorgeous setting. We love Katie’s eyes (so fierce) and were able to grab some shots with them highlighted. They match her “firecracker” and totally fun personality which fits perfectly with Kevin’s mellow and relaxed demeanor.

Katie and Kevin are getting married in Denver next spring and we know it’s going to be a special day to photograph.

Vail Mountain Wedding Photography – Katie and Eric tie the knot!

Katie & Eric chose the Vail Wedding Deck on top of Vail Mountain for their Colorado Destination Wedding. You can’t get more breathtakingly beautiful Colorado scenery than that! It was a joy for Jason and I to be their wedding photographers. Typical Colorado mountain storms came and went throughout the day, but the heavens really opened up once we got to the top of the mountain! Katie & Eric were torn on whether to “call it” and use their backup plan at the bottom of the mountain or wait the storm out. They were just about to pack it up when the clouds broke and the wind stopped! Yeah! We were so happy that after all the work they put into planning a mountaintop wedding, they got it. The wedding ceremony was very sweet. Eric’s Naval dress uniform popped against the mountains in every photograph and Katie’s dress flowed beautifully in the breeze. Throughout the day I kept being reminded of An Officer and A Gentleman, but Katie & Eric’s love story was WAY better.

By the way, Katie designed all the invitations and centerpieces herself! She is such a talented woman and her vision for the day was perfect. Her sister put together the flowers arrangement and her aunt made the “Yoda” cake-topper. Can we say she comes from a crazy-talented family?

P.S. Why a “Yoda” cake topper? Eric is an avid Star Wars junkie. Under his pristine uniform, he wore a Star Wars belt… and if that wasn’t enough, their wedding processional music was none other than the Star Wars theme song!

Denver Botanic Gardens Engagement Photography – Kari and John

Last week, Jason and I (Gina), had an engagement photography session with John, Kari, and her beautiful daughter. The evening started out with a family shoot at the Denver Botanic Gardens. It was an amazing, gorgeous day and the gardens look fantastic right now. As photographers in Denver, one thing we love about the Botanic Gardens is how many different spots there are to shoot. We spent nearly the entire time in the Japanese (I think – the sign was in another language!) Gardens with their family and had an awesome time. They were all so natural in front of the camera and Kari’s daughter ate it up!

After capturing some great family pics, Kari’s daughter was picked up by a friend and we did the second half of the engagement session with just Kari and John. We strolled through the gardens and headed to Cheesman Park. Talk about a fun couple! They are beautifully affectionate and, on more than one occasion, they were having so much with each other that they didn’t realize when we’d stopped taking pictures! It is always a lovely time for us as photographers when a couple loves interacting with each other.

Grand Lake Wedding Photography in the Rain, Snow, and Colorado Sun

Would you believe it if we told you that we drove through a blizzard on Berthoud Pass to arrive at this gorgeous Grand Lake, Colorado wedding? White out conditions over the pass made for quite an interesting drive on the way to photograph Allyssa and Terry’s Summit County wedding. Rain had also caused the river to wash out the road leading to the house where Allyssa was getting ready. It was crazy! When all was said and done, though, the beautiful Colorado sun arrived just in time for the wedding ceremony and the dampness made for wonderfully rich colors for photography.

You may remember Allyssa and Terry from their Red Rocks Engagement Photography Session earlier this year. They are a playful and spontaneous couple who have tied the knot on June 12, 2010 (six days after our wedding). Their outdoor western-style wedding included hay bails for seating, lots of cowboy hats and boots, and guests who knew how to party at the reception. Their relaxed nature made for fantastic wedding photography portraits.

We especially enjoyed watching and photographing this boot-stomping reception!

Denver Engagement Pictures including Mississippi and Vegas

We (Jason and I) had a great evening engagement photography session with Liz, Brent and their two Jack Russell Terriers, Mississippi and Vegas. Yep, a dog named Vegas. Don’t you love this couple already? Little miss Mississippi is named after his favorite (understatement) college team, the University of Mississippi. They are such fun dogs! As an aside, I have to say, Brent and I bonded over our love of FarmVille… Liz and Jason also bonded over their both being perplexed as to why we love FarmVille!

We started out their session at City Park, in Denver, which looks amazing with all the rain this spring and did some family shots with the pups. Liz and Brent are so easy to work with… and so fun together! At one point they climbed into a giant flowerpot because, well, if there is an empty 4-foot flowerpot you have to get an engagement picture in it, right? The night was beautiful as we headed to their second location. We planned their engagement session later in the evening so we could also shoot at the BlueBird Theater to get couple portraits under the lit-up sign. Their first date was at a concert and it was fun taking engagement pictures at a location that that felt so nostalgic to them. So romantic! We can’t wait to photograph Liz and Brent’s wedding in Vail, Colorado this Fall.

Morgan and Brandon married on a gorgeous Spring afternoon in Estes Park, Colorado.

Gina and I were thrilled to photograph Morgan and Brandon’s Estes Park wedding a couple of weeks ago. Morgan and Brandon are such a photogenic couple. We had a blast at their engagement photography shoot and we look forward to photographing their trash/love the dress session soon! Their wedding was held at the Taharaa Mountain Lodge in Estes Park. It was a perfect spring afternoon in Colorado, with just a touch of wind. It was an exciting wedding for us not only because they’re the sweetest couple, this was our final wedding we photographed as an engaged couple ourselves. We were married on June 6th, 2010. From this photo blog post on, we are a married team!

Our wedding photography package provides our brides coverage all day, without time limits. Morgan welcomed us as if we were family when we arrived for this wedding, per request, nice and early. Morgan was completely relaxed and enjoyed every moment of getting ready for her big day! In fact, she put her dress on for an early bridal portrait session a couple of hours before the guys were even getting ready. The first look (a private moment between the bride and groom prior to their wedding ceremony) was incredibly sweet – they are crazy in love and so affectionate with each other. Their ceremony and reception were full of amazing moments, sweet emotions, and lots of smiles.

Tori and Matt Downtown Denver Engagement Photography

Denver engaged couple, Tori & Matt are getting married in Cancun, Mexico this summer. Jason and I (Gina) are thrilled to be the photographers for their destination wedding. A couple of weeks ago, Jason, Tori and Matt hung out at The Wyncoop and then took advantage of the warm, rain-less Denver afternoon. The wind was gusty at times making for some great photographs and also wreaking havoc on Tori’s hair. In situations like this if we can’t get out of the wind, we take pictures in bursts to find that one image where the hair is behaving (LOL). Tori and Matt were playful, engaging and totally relaxed during their engagement shoot. Pictures were taken all around the LoDo area before they headed to City Park for some fun pics. I just love the image (above) of Tori spreading the dandelion seeds!

We love having the opportunity to have an engagement photography shoot with a couple prior to their wedding day. Engagement shoots give us (as photographers) a chance to become more acquainted with our clients, their personalities and how they interact together. The photography shoot also gives our clients the ability to become more comfortable and familiar being photographed.

As Denver Wedding Photographers – moments like this (picture above) make us feel so incredibly blessed to be able to do what we do!

Ft. Collins engagement session – Beth & Jason

A couple of weeks ago, Jason and I got together with Beth & Jason for an engagement photography session – our 10-10-10 wedding couple! It was a lovely Colorado day (we decided to start earlier in the day to avoid the evening thunderstorms…) and our couple brought along their cute little dog, Mia, which continues our “dogs in engagement photography” series Beth & Jason are so cute together. They make each other laugh all the time and you can tell they love being together. They explore new hiking trails together and since they live in Ft. Collins, it’s pretty easy to find great locations! Together, with Mia, they are a great little family and we can’t wait for their October 10th wedding at the Brown Palace Hotel!

Before we started our engagement photography session, we met Beth & Jason for a mid-afternoon drink at one of their favorite pubs, CooperSmith’s, in their hometown of Ft. Collins. We strolled through downtown Ft. Collins taking some candid and fun engagement pics. They then took us to Lory State Park, near Arthurs Rock, for a stroll along their favorite hiking trail. We love being able to shoot engagement photographs in locations that are meaningful to our clients. That way, their engagement pictures are more than just “a nice picture in a pretty location”… the pictures are part of their story. That’s also why we enjoy having their dogs come for part or all of the engagement session – their dogs are part of their life now, too.
