MileSplit is Down

Update 8:37PM Eastern

We are unfortunately still down. This is beyond frustrating for us as well... as you can imagine. This has been a widespread, day-long outage that you may have seen reported in the media. Amazon Web Services has been experiencing major issues with failures on multiple levels.

These issues have taken down thousands of major sites with it. This outage has affected MileSplit as well as a number of other major track & field related sites.

We have a new server up that is restored from our backups, but it would mean losing almost an entire day's worth of data. Our hope is that we can wait a bit longer for Amazon to get its act together and be humming back along with zero data loss. Worst case scenario at this point is sometime tonight or early AM we make the call to go back to the backups and things will be back to normal (minus yesterday's data, which would need to be re-input)

We are very sorry for the problems and wish there was more we could do.

Sincerely,
Jason Byrne, CEO

Update 9:47PM Eastern

Here is the latest from Amazon:

Earlier today we shared our high level ETA for a full recovery. At this point, all Availability Zones except one have been functioning normally for the past 5 hours. We have stabilized the remaining Availability Zone, but recovery is taking longer than we originally expected. We have been working hard to add the capacity that will enable us to safely re-mirror the stuck volumes. We expect to incrementally recover stuck volumes over the coming hours, but believe it will likely be several more hours until a significant number of volumes fully recover and customers are able to create new EBS-backed instances in the affected Availability Zone. We will be providing more information here as soon as we have it.

Of course, wouldn't you know it? We are that remaining zone that is still "recovering". At this point we are weighing our options but see little point in losing almost a day's worth of data vs. waiting another few hours for it to come back. Bottom line... we will make sure you wake up to MileSplit!
