Happy Fireworks Day!

Hello everyone,

Happy Fireworks Day! :D

Yeah, I just made that up. But I’m feeling happy, and my neighbors just put up some serious fireworks display. Like.. it’s the 3rd “show” now. Plus, I’m feeling happy :D

Today’s also U-Turn launch day, First-Day-of-School Day, End-of-CNY-Pigging-Week Day, 12-Days-to-CampusCamp Day, etc.

It’s awesome to have a God who says His love is new EVERY morning. Ahhh. Today could easily be Love God Day, repeatable on a daily basis.

optimistic

Oh, this morning, God said, “Run with Me”.
In church, the preacherdude says “God Wants to Walk With You”.
I say, “Sweet, let’s go!”

Week ahead, here I come! :)

Mac Essentials

Ok, since I’ve gotta stay home instead of heading out to Starbucks to gloat over the fact that there’s just been a new Mac switcher… :P (ha ha!)
I’ll put down a bunch of stuff that I think are really useful to me (non-design major mac user)

Enhancements

QuickSilver
I invoke QS more than any other program. It THE command-line interface for a Graphical UI world.

VirtueDesktop One screen is not enough. Virtual screens help organize different sets of apps into different “monitors”. Plus the cube effect is just cool.

PIM

Address Book: Hook it up to the phone via bluetooth for SMS-bliss. (Need to “Set up bluetooth device” from the bluetooth icon by the clock).

iCal: It’s the sweetest calendering software.

iSync: Hook everything up so it’s always in sync – phone’s phone book is up-to-date with the Mac’s with the (coming soon) iPod. A PIM’s not useful unless everything’s set up and synced up!

Email
I’m thinking hard about this. VERY tempted to say Apple Mail’s the way to go.

Let’s put it this way, because Address Book works with Apple Mail works with iPhoto works with Quicksilver works with Adium works with Spotlight works with…

But I also know moving 700000 emails is no fun. We’ll play this by ear.

Apple Mail - An “ok-lah” email program per-se, but its interoperability with other programs in the Mac world makes it one step ahead even of Gmail.

Mail Act-On: Kinda like Quicksilver for Mail. Once you get used to it, every other interface is too slow.

Internet

Skype (uh.. pretty much an office requirement, isn’t it?). Best part is the iSight works great with Skype.

AdiumX: Best IM client for Mac. Copies contact’s display pic to Addrees Book (which then shows in Mail, etc). Also get the plugins to:

show Address Book info in Adium

AdiumBook to help sync Adium and Address Book contacts

Firefox for Mac: I’m still trying to switch to Safari (it’s got really sweet intergration with Address Book), but AdBlocking on Firefox is just too good.

BoringOfficeWork

sheeshMicrosoftOfficeLah. :D hehe sorry! :)

Other must-learns

Expose, Dashboard etc - work with screen corners

Bluetooth 3G access, and Network Locations (most underused but powerful config setting)

Ok the rest I’ll update this post as I go along.

In The Mood for Love

I wrote this letter especially for you /
    To prove that my love for you is true /
    Never shall I kiss someone else’s lips /
    Never will we make any boring trips

Roti Planta, you are unbelievably beautiful /
    When I am near you my heart goes like a raging bull /
    Words cannot express /
    What I felt when you said ‘yes’

Roti Planta, you mean so much to me /
    I never knew this could be /
    You are my sweetheart day by day /
    I hope you will never go away

This Teh Tarik is for you, I hope you will like it /
    I am dying to see your reaction, that I will admit /
    This poem has come to an end /
    There are many more I would like to send

:D HAHAHA

Oh man, I have found every geek’s answer to love: The Random Love Poem Generator . Personalize it with a name and a gift! And customize it too. AND print out the words in a love shape! Sweet!

…And dude, if you actually do use this, that’s sad. February’s Love Month in CampusCity. Come learn a few REAL tricks! You need it. :)

22 Questions

Always thought “Methodist” meant uh.. solemn, boring church (just being honest, I’m sorry). Learning now that these Methodists were called so because of their spiritual discipline – aka Methods – in daily pursuit of God. Pretty radical stuff.

At least that’s how it was 200 years ago during John Wesley’s time. I only wish some of my Methodist friends told be about it sooner.

Here a list of 22 Questions that members of John Wesley’s “Holy Club” (scary choice of words! hehe aka Accountability Groups, aka PG, aka Cell?) asked themselves, and each other:

Am I consciously or unconsciously creating the impression that I am better than I really am? In other words, am I a hypocrite?

Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate?

Do I confidentially pass on to another what was told to me in confidence?

Can I be trusted?

Am I a slave to dress, friends, work, or habits?

Am I self-conscious, self-pitying, or self-justifying?

Did the Bible live in me today?

Do I give it time to speak to me everyday?

Am I enjoying prayer?

When did I last speak to someone else about my faith?

Do I pray about the money I spend?

Do I get to bed on time and get up on time?

Do I disobey God in anything?

Do I insist upon doing something about which my conscience is uneasy?

Am I defeated in any part of my life?

Am I jealous, impure, critical, irritable, touchy, or distrustful?

How do I spend my spare time?

Am I proud?

Do I thank God that I am not as other people, especially as the Pharisees who despised the publican?

Is there anyone whom I fear, dislike, disown, criticize, hold a resentment toward or disregard? If so, what am I doing about it?

Do I grumble or complain constantly?

Is Christ real to me?

Pitching Day

Ps 97:8
Zion hears and is glad,
And the daughters of Judah rejoice
because of Your judgments, O Lord.

Ps 138:3
In the day when I cried out, You answered me,
And made me bold with strength in my soul.

Ps 138:8
The Lord will PERFECT that which concerns me.
PERFECT (verb): gamar, To end, finish, accomplish, perfect…
Phil 1:6 …being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Invitation to Roadworks Village

Hey you, if you’re reading this blog, you are invited to Roadworks Village this Christmas weekend.

This is something that the whole production team has been working really hard on, and I’ve been so blessed working with them too. It’s gonna be good. So I’m extending a personal invitation to you… find out more at the Roadworks Village minisite

Wow, if you’re still reading this.. you really should be at the minisite instead ;)

But anyway, yeah, you’ll see a familiar name under the “Cast & Crew” page at the minisite.

It’s been awesome working with the team on this. It’s actually the first time for me to do something of this scale, and a first time working with many of the people too.

I really should do a follow-up post on this… but come and enjoy the fruits of our sweat and tears :) See you this Christmas at Roadworks Village!

A Lifetime to KNOW God

Listening to “What is the Greatest Calling” by David Perkins, on the Desperation Podcast.

Wow, there’s just so much to learn everyday. I’m learning about the lifetime I have to walk with God… I’m really in no rush anymore. It’s now about growing deep, not how much I can do and how fast. All the “doing” is and will happen naturally, but exploring the depths of my relationship, of knowing God… that’s the adventure of a lifetime that will take a lifetime to venture thru!

Random idea: There’s 66 books in the Bible. If I spend 1 year going deep into each book, I’ll be done when I’m 90! How cool is that? :D Then I can retire into heaven or something. Or start over? Or something. Yay!

Disclaimer: Now, before anyone throws icewater on the idea, yes, I know the Bible should be read in full, etc (yes, I have done cover-to-cover), yes we need balance. But I didn’t say I’d only be reading that 1 book-of-the-year. :p

It’ll be so fun..! I bet some of the shorter books I’d end up reading it so thoroughly I’d memorize them! hehe Or maybe use it as a chance to really learn Greek, or Hebrew or Aramic. Or maybe memorize geneologies? hahaha Or do like cross-ref studies. Or read them in the different translations. Fun!!!

(Yeah, I’m a study nerd. I like it.)

Life is so much more fun, living it for a purpose far beyond just me!

.
.
.

P/S: heh, I said “Know”. I’m good at product placements ;) hehehe

P/P/S: That’s an inside joke with me and my sis. All other readers, please walk about blankly :p

Myers-Briggs Test (Updated)

E=6 Extraversion
I=5 Introversion

S=8 Sensing
N=12 iNtuition

T=11 Thinking
F=8 Feeling

J=13 Judging
P=6 Perceiving

You are an ENTJ (http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/mb/ENTJext.asp)

Dumping this here so I won’t have to think about this or remember this.

From: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/mb/default.asp

Ok, update. The reason why I noted this down was because there are some points in the description that really describe my work style/strategy/temperament well:

Whatever ENFJs do must make sense to them according to their logic or they have difficulty doing it.

They are willing to learn about the past and what is but always with the mind-set of how that information affects their future.

ENTJs like to debate and view problems from all sides. They are comfortable critiquing and analyzing. and do not mind intellectual conflict

When in charge of an organization, ENTJ’s more than any other type desire (and generally have the ability) to visualize where the organization is going

Although ENTJ’s are tolerant of established procedures, they can abandon any procedure when it can be shown to be indifferent to the goal it seemingly serves. Inefficiency is especially rejected by ENTJ’s, and repetition of error causes them to become impatient

And here’s the reason why I take the above so seriously:

They are tireless in their devotion to their jobs and can easily block out other areas of life for the sake of work.

Of course, I’m realist enough not to expect everything.. or in fact, anything, to revolve around “me” or how “I” do things. But the points above are really 2 sides of the same coin. It takes conviction to be able to devote to a cause.

All I can say for now, is that I’m still looking forward to the understanding & revelation & experience that brings conviction.

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (Jn 15:15)

Lord, please, make it known to me. Amen.
