Design stuff 3 - movie poster

In my design class, I was assigned to take a book that I enjoyed and create a movie poster for it. The catch was, it couldn't already be adapted into a film. No problem. I immediately knew what book to select: Like a Hole in the Head by Jen Banbury. Sadly, it's out of print, but you can pick up a copy online for really cheap.

In order to successfully complete the assignment, I needed to meet certain criteria. I won't go into the details, because I like you and would rather not bore you to death. All you needed to know is that I met the criteria- but before I did, I knew I couldn't make this too easy for me. What to do? I knew I wanted an image of the story's protagonist, Jill, on the poster. So one would assume I needed a photo of a woman, right? Nah...I'll just photograph me in a wig and do my best to "transform" my photo into that of a woman. Now, you can be the judge and decide if you think I succeeded. At the very least, I think I made myself a little more attractive.

A note to the author of Like a Hole in the Head: Jen, if you've stumbled upon my blog whilst Googling your name (admit it, we've all done it): Please, please write more fiction. As far as I know, Like a Hole in the Head is your only novel, and I love it dearly. Heck, I liked it enough to wear a silly wig for you...that has to mean something.

Design stuff 2 - logo

For another assignment in my Illustrator class, I had to create a logo for my (fictional) company. Once I finished the logo, I felt a lot more confident in my Illustrator skills. I also really was glad that I bought a Wacom tablet. I'm using it more in Illustrator that I ever have in Photoshop.

Not much changes in three years. The paint seems to be in the same state of decay. The only change major I see is the rust forming on guardrail.

Let me just say that I love my Digital Harinezumi 2++. Despite it's shape, it doesn't take up too much pocket real estate. I prefer to use this over my cell phone camera (also 3 megapixels on HTC G1) because it's much faster to shoot with. I'm not all to wild about how over-saturated the images are, but I guess that's part of the charm.

Whether it's a job or school, I'm always pushing myself to do more than the minimum requirements. So when I was assigned the task of vectorizing myself for my Adobe Illustrator class, I pondered how I could make this more challenging for myself. Ah ha! Why don't I give myself two heads! My inspiration came from one of my favorite comedy/horror movies, Army of Darkness. This is my first attempt at creating a vector image of a person, and I don't think it turned out too badly.

A word on the Polaroid-a-Day project

I just got too busy and I couldn't find the time to shoot Polaroids, scan them, edit and upload the video to Flickr. Since then, I started a new job, (that I have since quit) and then enrolled in school. I'm on break from class for a couple more weeks. During this time, I'll be cramming in as many photo projects as possible. One of my goals was to create a store via Etsy. I did that. See it here. Now, what's next?
