Shooting things so far in advance makes it hard to NOT talk about! I am always anxious to talk about what I am doing, but so many times the work requires me to sit on it for a while. Back in January I had one of the coolest assignments so far in my career. I traveled to NYC to photograph chef Todd English for his upcoming cookbook that will be published by Oxmoor House. My assignment was to shoot Todd cooking, for the chapter openers in the book. The book is scheduled to be release next month. While I was there Todd was nice enough to allow me to make a portrait of him, just for my portfolio. Shooting for yourself is a must in addition to what the client asks for. And it is a great collaboration when your subject has the time, and allows you to do that. We spent 3 days together, and I just shot him cooking, doing what he loves to do. It was an amazing experience. I definitely felt the allure of the city! This is the portrait I made during a break one day. More to come when the book is published!

My studio is around the corner from the best skate shop in AL, probably in the southeast, Faith Skate Supply. We have worked with Peter the owner on several projects, and love those guys. Peter introduced us to his girlfriend Crys, who is the mother of an autistic son. Crys founded A Skate Foundation, that allows children with autism to be part of our social world through skateboarding. Her story is amazing, you should check it out here. She was featured in Transworld Skate Magazine, and asked me to take her portrait. I love these kinds of shoots, meeting and knowing the story of amazing people, and helping it reach the world.

My friend Don Van Cleave called me back in February and asked if I wanted to do a shoot together. Don is in artist management, but also a fantastic photographer. Of course I said yes. Then he told me it was with The Civil Wars, who had been in my studio before. We have some mutual friends, I love their music, and I was stoked! We had a few minutes with them before one of their sold out shows in Birmingham. This was my favorite portrait.
