The issue is not connected with laziness or anything else. The only prob. I’ve got is that I’m badly hooked up with my academics. For example we’re currently having exams, and I can’t risk reading my blog for blogging sake. I hope you understand.

Nevertheless I promise to come back to my regular routine before the month runs out. Thank you for your support and understanding. Yes, that’s the feeling you get when all of a sudden your mobile phone develops an unusual problem as “test mode” or “local mode”.

I mean I just switched off my cell to get it charged like I do any other day. Switching it on there the message was on the screen. Yeah, I managed to get the problem solved in a jiffy, and I’d show you how you too can also do so.

So what do you think the solution is? Maybe unscrew your mobile set with a set of Allen keys, rip off the LCD screen from the chip board, locate and unsolder the test mode IC from the multitude of components, right under the LCD?

No that’s way to complex and seems more of rocket science.

What do you do then? Grab a desktop charger and run your battery with it for some hours!

Crazy how a seemingly massive problem could be solved so cheaply, right? So I thought as well. All I did was to simply charge my battery for some 2 hours with a desktop charger and that was it. I switched on my phone la little after the “childish” routine and surprisingly it started working for me; and should for you. An alternative is to use an entirely new battery if this method fails.

However note that this approach of mine is not typical and professional for all “test mode” and “local mode” problem on any phone, and hence won’t work in all places. Yet still, it’s a good place to start when next you’ve got that problem that seems like a software issue with your phone, before consulting an engineer.

It’s my hope that this “empty” solution post eventually helps some distressed guy out there. If this worked (and as well as failed) for you please try to leave a comment in the comments section. Thanks for the read.

How to take screenshots of java s40 mobile phones - capture your apps with ease!

Do you crave to capture screenshots of your s40 java phone? This post shows you how to go about it in a sneaky way.

Do you by any means recognise any of the above applications?

Absolutely correct! They’re KD player and the famous Opera Mini 4.2, captured right from the small screen of my small Nokia 7210 supernova j2me phone. Relax, you’d learn to do more by the time you’re done with reading this post.

Ok, I can see that I’m done now done with wetting your appetite. Alright, Let’s dig in!

How we’d be capturing screenshots of our java s40 mobile phones

Now, since s40 java phones are built without embedded functionality for capturing screen shots, we’d have to go take another route to bypass our problem – Use the computers!

Yeah, that’s the only option we have here. If taking a screen capture of that phone is important to you, then boot up your PC now and let’s ride.

The way this is done is by using some java/j2me emulator on our computer to enable us run .jar applications meant for java phones right on our computer. Then you can use the “print screen” button, “snipping tool”, or whatever screen capture facility your computer has to grab a shot of the running application.

Sounds easy right? Yes it is, but not without the use of these tools that we’d be using:

* Java Runtime Environment - grab it here

* JAD Maker – grab it here

* J2me Microemulator – grab it here

Note: Click the “grab it here” links at the end of the program names above to download them if you don’t already installed on your PC.

Now let’s explore the magical powers of these tools

When you’re done with downloading the programs you’d need to unzip the files and install the Java Runtime – JAD maker and (j2me) Microemulator don’t need an installation.

JAD maker is basically used for creating jad files (files with .jad extensions) from java (.jar) applications – those apps that we normally install on our phones. It’s the jad file our computers recognise (and are able to be ran), hence we’d have to convert the java application we want to use in taking the screen capture into jad files.

First-off, get the application you want to use for the screen capture from your phone to your computer – using your USB chord. Create a folder on your desktop, name it anything, and put the application in there.

To create our jad file: click on the JADMaker.zip folder (you downloaded) and click on the jadmaker.exe from the list of files which shows up. When that is done, a small square shaped window pops up. Open the folder on your computers desktop in which your phone’s application is, then drag the app (by clicking on the icon and moving the mouse - with the mouse click still pressed down) and place on the small window that the JAD maker opened. Wait a few seconds and the .jad version of your phone’s java app would be produced and placed in the same folder as the the app. See illustration in the pic. below:

Now It’s time to run your jad application on your computer while we prepare to take our screen shot.

Unzip the microemulator you downloaded, look for the microemulator file (which is 617 KB in size), right click the icon, move to “open with” option, then choose “Java (TM) platform SE binary” from the list. The screen shot below says more on that:

When the microemulator opens (which looks like a simulated phone), click on “File”, select “Open JAD file” then browse through your PC for the folder you stored the phone application to be ran, then choose on the version with .jad at the end.

Yippee! You now have your application running on your computer. You can now go ahead to make a computer screen capture of the running application on the microemulator and present to the world! That’s it.

Note that you can only control the running application with the arrow keys on your computer keyboard, and by clicking on the commands presented on the emulator. That’s the restriction.

Thanks for the time spent in reading this tutorial. It’s time to make a change!

Now, there are a lots of nice music players out there to go with, but then maji player should be top in your list. Maji player is a free music player for java phones that has a beautiful theme colour, together with cool buttons to match. The functions are quite basic, but then you would be happy with the overall quality of this free music player for java mobile phones.

I’ve tested the maji music player on Nokia 3310c, 3500 and 7210 supernova with positive results. The music player for java phones should work on pretty much every java mobile phone. Enough of the talks, take a look for yourself.

Download: maji player for java phones

Get a new Nokia N97 mini phone for free

I just got informed today that the guy at dailymobile is giving out a new Nokia N97 mini out for a free trial to participators of his forum. I’m quite amazed that since then, the news and buzz around Motorola droid has continued to grow instead of deaden.

There are over a thousand drid phone reviews going on over the internet at the moment. Every one seems to want to know much about the motorola droid phone. I’ve read a couple of droid phone reviews in weeks past. The term “droid phone reviews” seems to be gaining much search hits on the search engines, so I though I’d do a nice speed-linking post of nice droid phone reviews posts to read.

Top five droid phone reviews posts to read

1. droid phone reviews at engadet: What do you expect? This is my best of review posts of the Motorolla Droid phone. The post is accompanied by a packed-up picture gallery of the droid phone. Go over there and have a look.

2. Pc world’s droid phone review: this is my second best. It gives some nice details of the droid phone, though it doesn’t contain much pictures as at engadget. Read it here

3. Motorola droid sucks? While all authority sources and numerous users are full of praises for the droid phone, this guy says that the droid sucks. Find out why here

4. The geek’s review: the geek wasn’t left out in the review of the droid phone. There’s also a nice criticism of the phone at the same time. Hmnn, this is the kind of reviews that is loved by many. Don’t fail to also know the bad of the droid phone here.

5. Review plus spy software: the spyphoneguy talks of the spy software to come for the droid phone. Get updates on the spy software by signing-up here.

I’d like to know what you think of the motoroola droid after reading these posts.

jar apps: Facewarp app free download for java phones

You have seen, used and enjoyed the functions of Facewarp on Sony Ericsson phones, and perhaps other symbian OS based phones, that comes with Facewarp packed in by default.

You have wished that you could warp the most prominent faces on the celebrity planet from the small screens of your s40 java (J2ME) based mobile phone? Download Facewarp for java (jar) phones in this post – absolutely free!

How to use the Facewarp on java phones:

There are some little things to note as far as being able to use the Facewarp is concerned. Here are the ones I found out.

1. When trying to snap a shot from the app to warp it, it would normally report a “memory full” error. To go over this issue, you load pictures previously taken by the camera or downloaded, instead of taking a snap shot from the Facewarp application – go to “options”, then “load”.

2. Always move images to be warped to the graphics folder on the phone’s gallery menu. This would allow for easy location and loading of pictures to be warped without much hassles.

3. Images warped would normally be stored in the ‘graphics’ folder of your phone’s memory – where I advised you be moving pictures to be warped to in point 2. above.

4. The wish would remain a dream if you haven’t got NavFunPro (for java phones). NavFunPro also grants you the added functionality of tracking your current locations and uploading it straight to the internet for the view of your friends, all on a platter of gold. Now, you don’t need to keep googling for “free gps apps for mobile phones”. All you need for the GPS navigation is your bluetooth GPS or mobile’s built in GPS.

Here are some more smashing features of NavFunPro for java phones:

* Always use up-to-date maps by using Google Maps, and Google Earth

* Supports bluetooth GPS and built in GPS (JSR 179)

* Find addresses, businesses, weather conditions, city-info, other buddies

*Define waypoints

* Dashboard with compass, speed, altitude, coordinates, and distance to target

* Altitude graph with browse option

* Load GPX track-files from your mobile’s file-system (for example flash card), show the track on your mobile’s map, and let your mobile guide you through the track

* Store your track as GPX file to your mobile’s file-system. After that you can review your track on your PC (using for example Google Earth)

* Review/export your tracks at www.trackthisout.com/tm.html

* See and chat with your buddies that use NavFunPro or Tracky

* You can disable Google maps to minimize internet-data.

* Also works on mobiles without internet. In that case tracks can only be saved to the mobile’s file-system. Google Maps are not shown, instead blank tiles are shown.

* Also work without GPS. It worked on a small Nokia 3110c, and hence I expect it works in pretty much every java based mobile.

                                                 Download: Bloover Bluetooth hack here

Great halloween costumes ideas – cheap and clever ideas

Everyone, perhaps, loves Halloween. The new firmware do contain correction to bugs present in a phone’s software or sometimes just some security and usability improvements. You see, it’s very important to always keep your Blackberry’s firmware (and every other phone) up to date for better security; if not for anything else.

Don’t know how to go about updating your BlackBerry’s software? No need recycling his post here, so I’ve posted the link, and suggest that you head over there now.

Here is a summary of what Ashish shows in his post:

* You would be heading over to the BlackBerry update page to download a 31MB software for the purpose

* You would connect your phone and search for new updates

* Select the updates you want and run the update.

Note: you shouldn’t for any reason unplug your phone while it’s in the updating process. A lot of people out there out there would love to know how to download this video (and any other YouTube video) to their phone like I just did a minute ago. This post would show you just how to do that!

Though I already did a guide on how to download YouTube videos some weeks past, but I'm doing this again all because of the Jona Brothers and the fans! **winks** So if you didn't catch that before, here is your chance. Let's go...

How to download YouTube videos to your mobile phone

As mentioned in the tutorial I previously posted on how to download YouTube videos to a mobile phone, we would be taking the download in two steps – 1. from YouTube to your PC, then 2.) to your phone.

Downloading the video from YouTube

1. Get the YouTube video URL. You can do that by either right-clicking the video’s name and clicking on “copy link location” from the menu that shows up, or copying it from the URL box in the right info corner while the video plays.

2. Insert the video URL in the URL box provided in the downloader9 site. There would be a pre-inserted link in there, just erase it and put yours. Hit “enter” on your keyboard.

3. Now, click on the link that shows up below the URL field which says “download video in flv” after the page loaded after hitting enter. It’s a done deal now! On to prepare it for use on your phone.

converting the video to 3gp or MP4 and sending to your phone

* For this stage you would need to use a free software called YouTube downloader for solely the conversion of the downloaded video. Download it here.

* Open YouTube downloader and click on “convert video (previously downloaded) from file”.

* Click on the “convert to” tab, and choose the file format you wish to have your converted video in. 3GP or MP4 is here since it’s for your phone.

Note: If you want to convert the video into an audio, then choose MP3

* Go to the “select video file” tab and click on the button aligned with the box. Select the Jonas Brothers Bounce video which you just downloaded. Click the “ok” button at the bottom of the YouTube downloader window and wait while it does the rest.

* When you have got the video all converted, you are set to transfer it to your mobile phone, by using your phone’s USB chord, infrared or Bluetooth, for enjoyment. If you encounter any problems, talk to me through the comment box. I'd sure give you a rapid response for Bounce’s sake.lol

And now, here comes the Bounce video.
